I actually danced for about 20 minutes yesterday. It felt good until the ankle started to throb. I decided to quit while I was ahead and do some stretching.

Still looking for a place to swim.

My husband is at a retreat this weekend and I thought that I would get some exercise in, but my ankle is acting up.

I think I'm going to look for places in my area that have good rates for indoor swimming and do that until my ankle heals fully.

Then I'm going to dance!

Lee: You must have needed the sleep.

New month tomorrow! I hoping for good things this month, and cooler weather!
Oh, and one exciting bit today is that I'm wearing some shorts I wore before I had my babies 20 years ago. Yes, I've been draging them around for 20 years with hopes of wearing them. Actually, I think I have worn them a few times in the 20 years. So, good things are coming!

Sleeping in is good for you every now and then, just not every day all day long like I do!
have been working a lot lately and looking for a job. I have an interview next Friday for a job at a group home working with girls 7-17, It's fri. sat. and sun. but she said it is full time 38 hours. I don't know how that works out but I'll take it.lol
I will still be able to keep this job because I usually only work one or two days. I pray I get the job and that is God's purpose for my life, because I know He did not save my life just for me to lie in bed day after day and watch tv!

Hey Machol ~ I know you're sad. Consider this time for you to rest, reflect and take care of yourself. Be your own best friend. What is something you would like to do for yourself (and your ankle) this weekend?

Slept in today until almost 10. Went out in the yard and cut back bushes and removed some fencing. Doesn't sound like much but it took over 4 hours!!

How romantic,Machol! Thank you everyone for your concern! I am staying in as much as possible. The fire has now burned more than 200,000 acres! It is "officially" the largest fire in CA history. That's not the kind of history we need to make in CA!

I'm sorry to hear that Suz. You make sure you do what you need to to stay healthy, be safe and take care of your self!

It is 9:50 and I haven't gotten my exercise today. I'm holding the intention to do a good one tomorrow some time, and get some yard work in too.

OK, shower & to bed. I am holding the possibility of working a long day or taking tomorrow off. Depends on how I feel... How's that for exercising my freedom to choose? emoticon

Hi everyone! Oh, the fires here are getting so out of hand. A grassfire started along the freeway and it jumped the crash wall and lit a tree, which of course lit the house below it and then jumped to 5 other houses. 2 burned to the ground, and the other 4 had severe fire damage. The "Rim" fire is pushing almos t200,000 acres and is still only about 20% contained. They say right now it is the 7th largest in CA ever! If it burns200,000 it will be the largest fire ever.It makes it really hard to breathe, especially with COPD.

I just really cringe at "diets'' now a days. I think it has something to do with being hard-headed and one of those folks that finds most rules annoying. emoticon

So, I have gotten some more exercise in this week. And I have made a couple of pretty good food choices over the last week, without denying myself.

I really miss having a CSA share. I have barely made it to any farmers markets. I did go today and I bought a big bunch of snow-pea sprouts; ate about a third in a salad. Delicious! I also bought some Ohio plums. I know the guy who was selling them and he gave me one for the road - double yum!

Ok, I'm sweating like a cold beverage on a hot day. Shower and bed time.

Went for a walk with my husband in beautiful downtown Belmont yesterday. I encouraged one of my clients in a session to get outside for a few minutes as a modd enhancer. Glad I followed my own advice for once! It was gorgeous yesterday!

Machol, great idea taking your gym back to work with you!
I did the Kaiser diet one time which is 3 days dieting and 4 days eating normal and I lost 15 lbs. in a month. but of course I couldn't keep it up and all the weight came back. It's only about 850 calories a day for 3 days and I was hungry all the time, I did use the diet about 6 days a week instead of 3 because I really wanted to lose the weight at the time.

Lee: Good to hear from you! I'm ready for September, too. I've had to restrain myself from jumping ahead. One suggestion that has been good for me, is to check out the 17 Day Diet. I've really done well with it. It's set up in three cycles of 17 days each. I'm not perfect with it, but it has helped me with the focus and structure that I needed. And it helps with the monotony that seems to derail me on diets anymore.

Well, it was a pleasure to read through this thread. Everybody is sounding pretty positive and things are going nicely.

The weather here has been quite splendid. My gardening just didn't get to be the exercise i had hoped this summer, and time to get out to walk has been a challenge, so I am back to getting on my elliptical a few times a week. It makes me really glad that I got the elliptical. It improves my mood too Machol.

Suz - emoticon on the job hunt/interview successes!

So, my intentions are get serious in September. There is a formal event on November 2nd that I have to attend and I want to feel pretty & sexy. I know that if I focus and push I will get some of my "parts" much improved by then. I might make a request of the team during the next couple of months to help keep me on course. Starting off, I just as for wishes of good luck, encouragement and prayers for a better success than I can even imagine right now.

Reading your posts improved my mood. It is so good to see you still connecting here. I will be on the boards more for the next couple of weeks.

The air quality level is now in the "very unhealthy" zone. When you look down the street, it looks like fog, but it is smoke. It's 6 am and already 70 degrees! We have 3 major fires all around us now.

No, Cindi, they are still about 50 miles away from us thank God! Some people have had to evacuate and others have already lost their homes. For us in the valley, the smoke is just getting bad.

We have another fire now too that's even closer! Still 50 miles or so away though, but the smoke is in the dangerous area for being outside today.At least for the elderly and those with COPD. which I have.

no spin today... just haven't done it.

Went out with the girls and danced which gave me a bit of motivation to get up this am and walk. So far today, I have put in 2 miles. Will do something more later. It could end up being yard work because it is such a beautiful day!!

Machol: Yes a therapist can be depressed. That's why it's important to take care of your own mental health. You are dealing with everyone else's problems and you need to have a place to work on yourself. That's why it's important to have your own therapist who you can talk to about what is bothering you.

Hi Lee! Good to hear you are doing better! 5 pts I believe on the wheel today. I got called in to work today and tomorrow so that gives me 4 days this week, woohoo! I just got my registration renewal on my car and that's an extra $93 I didn't plan on, so I am happy to get the extra work:)

Good to see you Lee! I do monthly sessions with a therapist. I think it makes me better for my job as therapist, and like you I would rather not do meds. So, I go in once a month and vent and let him tell me things I need to hear. I have some seasonal depression, so this time of year and on it's really important for me.

Just had one last walk of the evening. Its really humid. Off to bed I go.

5 pts. Hey Ladies! Wooooooo! Thank you so much for keeping up with these boards! It so good to see you both here regularly emoticon

Boy-o-boy! do things change in unexpected ways.

Nothing bad really, just not what I want. I put on 4 pounds in the last month trying to be supportive to others and spending way too much time (and money) eating away from home!

I'm feeling WAY BETTER than I have been though. I spent a few weeks in sessions with a psychotherapist, and he surely made me feel like I wasn't crazy or stupid! So we are down to once a month. I also decided not to take "happy pills" to feel better, and as I already said, I feel better.

So it is August. How much exercise/weight training can I get in this week to make difference on my body? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!!

I think my pain comes from over exercising. I'm in the category of being a weekend warrior and I get it when I step up intensity and start running very much. I want to run, but then I get the leg pain at night. So, I've been doing more walking with my husband. This winter I'm going to go to the rec center and try to do more cross training.

That's great. Hope the meds keep helping. I get a pain in one leg at night. Jillian Michaels of Biggest Loser recommends a melatonin and a calcium/magnesium supplement to deal with nighttime pain. I've been doing the melatonin and a calcium (I only have calcium chews and they don't have magnesium). I take a multi that does though. I have to admit I don't have the pain in my leg as much.

That's great Cindi! I am feeling hopeful too! My doctor gave me something for the pain I have in my legs at night, and I took 2 and took a nap. I woke up feeling great and actually getting a few things done! I don't know if I slept better, so I felt better, or if the pills are an anti depressant of some sort, I just know I felt optimistic for the first time in months:)
