I took the plunge and joined the Faucett Activity Center. I've been twice since I joined (joined last Friday) - spent over an hour each time. It feels good to get back with it but I do find it hard to actually get motivated though I've fine once I start exercising! LOL

I got a compliment at the gym today! someone told me they admired my stamina which was awesome because it was the first time I'd been on the elliptical in months.

Did my first workout today after the cortisone shot. I will rotate between bicycling and the elliptical. Not allowed to walk for exercise any more, doctors orders. The pounding on pavement and bounce of treadmill would encourage inflamation.

The Faucett Center is more expensive because of all the extras. We use the outdoor archery range there. Go check it out. It is a nice place. If your a walker, walk the parking lot and out to the archery range and along the wooded archery trail. That is free. We use the McAbee Center and pay an annual fee that allows us to use all the centers except Faucett. Google TCPARA to learn about the parks and facilities.

Has anyone here tried out the Faucett Brother's Activities Center off Rose Blvd.? That's the closest one to me now so I'm wondering about it. I'm also told that the Activity Center's no longer do the yearly fee for the whole family - it's more like a regular gym - automatic draft through your checking account AND much more expensive - expense I really don't need - especially another monthly bill. :-( I NEED to do something and not living in a neighborhood anymore makes it harder - I assumed we'd be able to join yearly when we moved OUT Of a neighborhood so I would have a way to exercise.....

I haven't been consistent myself. My husband doesn't encourage or discourage me so it's up to me to keep it moving. I refer to us as teammates even if we never actually met it's good to know we're out here.

Hi to all of my fellow Tuscaloosa Alabama Sparkers!! I'm going to add a blog today at some point - but wanted to specifically say hi to all of you and tell you guys how much I've missed everyone. I have found that once I get moved to new house I will be very close to the
Faucett Activity Center and I hear it has an amazing "gym" and you can hire a trainer for $25 an hour if wanted. I'm going to try out doing 20 minutes per machine too JENNY!! I can tell I'm going into stress mode lately - eating just to eat - I close on the house I'm selling tomorrow and we close on one we're buying next Thursday so this MESS is close to over!! I'm ready to get back to a routine of being healthy again because I feel miserable right now.

Hey Carolyn, the 20 minutes per machine works good. I get exercise on each and after I feel a bit tired but not worn out. All activity counts- look at the activities list and add all that you do.

JENNY how did 20 minutes on each machine go? I haven't done ANYTHING in the form of "actual" exercise other than - cleaning out the attic, prepare for a garage sale, work the garage sale by unloading loads of stuff then loading more stuff to take to salvation army!! Now it's time to start packing so that's about all I'll get done for a while. LOL
BRE so glad to hear from you - I've been trying to better logging in here as well - and have until right around my birthday - got a contract on our house about that time - but I'm going to get back on here at least once a day again. It totally helps!!

My heel is getting better so I thought I'd try the treadmill and the elliptical today. I was about half speed and felt fine. I think I will do 20 min per exercise and rotate through the bicycle, treadmill, and elliptical. Lets see how it goes!

JENNY that is so funny! I went Sunday as a guest with my friend to her gym. It's a big gym - LOTS of guys - felt VERY intimidated. I don't think it's a gym I will join just because of that feeling - and they didn't do anything to cause me to feel that way either - I guess it's just me! LOL

I felt a little moment of intimidation of the gym tonight. It was close to closing and I looked around and saw a dozen men and just me. A little voice in my head freaked out and said get the hell out of here! They we're not trying to start trouble and I've never had trouble there but I got very uneasy, very fast. There may have been puffs of smoke at my heels.

Thanks Jenny - I definitely am trying to take it easy. I can tell it's going to take some time to work back up to what I was doing before I just QUIT!! I can not let myself get that out of shape again. My lungs literally HURT when I'm using the elliptical after about 15 minutes. I've had to stop at 20 min several times but I pushed through to 30 min. once so far. I hope to get back to that again soon.

Hope everyone is enjoying this "heat wave" we're having - THIS weather I can handle...the snow and ice - not so much!

Don't over do it. Work your way up. I can sort of relate in that I am trying to recover from a "stone bruise" in my left heel. I've been feeling it for 11 weeks and it is getting better. Aleve, stretching, new shoes and time. Stuck on the bicycle until I feel safe enough to try the elliptical again.

I have worked VERY hard this week to get back to exercising - is anyone else having trouble getting "re-started" at all? I used my elliptical 3 times this week - 1st night was only 15 minutes - thought I'd die; the 2nd night I pushed it to 20 and then last night I did a full 30 minutes and I think my lungs were going to collapse - they hurt so bad! Can't believe I have let myself go without exercise so long it just makes it harder to start again.

I wanted to stop in to say hello to the few of us left that actually check in on our Totally Tuscaloosa Team!! I miss everyone and all of the motivation/encouragement we used to get/give. It sounds like you had a nice time indoors. I mostly stayed indoors too. I had to leave my house twice during those really cold days for meetings with professors before school started. I'm glad that our temps are back to normal now. Having to experience the teens for a couple of days really made me appreciate the 40s.

I hid in the house. I refreshed the heavy winter quilts (dryer giving off a little extra heat) I did some baking(also for the extra heat) If I had been thinking I would have cooked using the crockpot ( nice low steady heat ). I sewed a double thickness fleece hood and scarf in the event I actually went outside. I'm originally from North Dakota and below zero never stopped us from doing anything. I've lived here 17 years and now just stay put.

I have not even heard of chocolate covered potato chips before lol! That's probably a good thing though, because I would have been tempted to try them out. I was in DC for a conference last week and it was soooo cold. The snow was beautiful though. I slipped on ice at the National Zoo and fell flat on my back. Thankfully, I was fine...just a little sore later that night. Now I am back in Tuscaloosa, and it's just as cold here. I can't win lol! How are you handling the cold weather?

Bre,

Things are going pretty good. Did you get any of the Lay's chocolate covered potato chips Target sold this year? I did and they aren't as good as the original. My hometown is home to Widman's Candies the creator of Chippers. My family sent a full pound this year. Temptation, temptation, temptation. I've been nursing a bruised heel since Halloween. I can cycle but I hope to add back the elliptical soon. Very easy to find excuses not to exercise or have one too many snacks but I keep trying. Or dragging depending on the day.

I say keep it simple. I have a chart on my fridge that lists the days of the week down the side and fruit veggies water and exercise across the top. I put a check mark in each box as I do each thing. Exercise is anything that moves my body. and I move it 3 to 4 days a week. It's working.

Well I feel totally out of the loop. Haven't been doing bad, just haven't been online or on the Spark website lately. Trying to get back to tracking food though. I've had several health related tests in the past few months so just focusing on getting over all of that. My exercising is coming & going - I will go 2 or 3 days exercising one week to none the next - I guess as long as I'm doing something here and there..... House is up for sale so that's kept me pretty busy too trying to keep things in order with that. Hope everyone has been enjoying their summer!

I might have to try that. I have horrible headaches and migraines. I know that exercise helps them not to comeback quite so often, but I have never thought about exercising while one is in progress. This weather has really been bothering my head.

I wanted to let you all know there is a FREE Zumba class Saturday mornings at 8:30am at Daystar Family Church. There are other Zumba classes throughout the week that cost $3. I'll be checking it out for the fist time today.

I got a compliment on the way into the gym today. A women I didn't know yelled out "Lookin Good!" I said i was sorry that i didn't recognize her and she said she'd just been noticing my progress. A couple of weeks ago my complex manager said another tenant asked my name and then he remarked that I had a nice ass. Shallow I know, but it did put a smile on my face.

Hello out there!
I have had a shift in thinking. My doctors say I do NOT need to lose weight. But because of a history of diabetes in my mothers side of the family that I should maintain a healthy diet and exercise consistantly. No more fighting to lose weight, No more feeling like I had failed if I hadn't. It's a relief. I hadn't been communicating much because I felt unsure of what to say. I learning to balance.

Not on here as much myself Bre - since they now charge for the phone app! Just had access to computer today and wanted to check in - say hi! Hope all is well and everyone is able to enjoy the weather. I'm having another nerve block for my back tomorrow and I"m hoping this will numb things up so I can get back to burning some major calories again!!

How has everyone been? I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day. The past few weeks have really been rough for me. I had an on and off migraine for 3 weeks, which left me unable to work or attend school, which means I'm extremely behind right now. When it comes to weight loss I've been pretty bad with that too. I'm going to get back on the wagon though. Have a great day ladies!

YES!! What a game!! It being over so late caused me to drag at work the next day but it was worth it.

BRE - so glad you enjoyed New Orleans - I just love the architecture of the old buildings most of all. Would've loved more time to venture out and see more of that.

SOOO as I mentioned before not on Spark as much anymore unfortunately since the App that I originally had on my old phone didn't transfer to new phone - and there's now a charge for the app - I'm just not into buying phone apps. Frustrating but the Fitness Pal app seems to help me with food and exercise tracking just fine. I just don't have this - communicating with others feature :-(

I have had some time off from exercise and my body is definitely showing it so Sunday I started back up. Really trying to discipline myself to get back into each day like before because I KNOW it brings results every time.

CONGRATS to you BRE for losing!! I can't wait to see the scales start to drop again!

Hi everyone! How about that game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited. We are completely getting spoiled as fans. I remember the Dubose and Shula years lol!

New Orleans was great. I would definitely love to go back. We were there for the beginning of Carnival season, so I was able to see a parade, which was really cool!

I think I am finally getting back on track. I lost 5 lbs this week. I know it was all water weight, but it's still good to see the scale go down. I hope you all have a great weekend!

BRE, hope the New Orleans trip went well or is it this week? I have started exercising again; only 2 days last week; pushing for 4 this week. Boy can I tell I haven't done any in a while! and I have to VENT... emoticon I'm VERY disappointed that since I changed cell phones; I go to add my Spark App back to my new phone; there's now a FEE for it!! I'm sorry, what happened to Sparkpeople being free?? I've had to switch to My Fitness Pal on my phone so I don't see as much on Spark anymore. Makes me very sad.

Read for the big game tonigt; I already know that I will do a little extra snacking so I'm not gonna sweat it - I'll just get back with it tomorrow!! Roll Tide!

Carolyn: Wow, you have had a lot going on. I hope everyone is feeling better by now. I am going with 3 other students, so I definitely will not go anywhere alone. I'm up for a challenge and meeting. I think it would be fun. What are the ideas you have?

Jenny: I ate pretty well over the holidays.

My conference in New Orleans this upcoming week. I'm really looking forward to it.I'll let everyone know how things go. I've been eating okay, but the exercise has been nonexistent. I'm hoping to get some motivation really soon. I got Zumba Core for Christmas, so hopefully that will get me active again. How was everyone's Christmas?

BRE...just one important word of advice- do NOT whatever you do - go off alone anywhere in New Orleans. They know you're not from the area. We got lost walking one night (late) & some 'locals' asked US for directions back to Bourbon Street when we were ALL ON Bourbon Street..up to no good..luckily my 6'4" 340 lb husband walked towards them and pointed them in the "right direction".
SO...trying to catch up again. I don't think I remember my life being quite so hectic. Let's see.... my middle son had the flu, my youngest (daughter) has a terrible cold/sinus crud with cough - praying it doesn't turn into the flu, my father-in-law back & forth to hospital (will be typical at this stage of his illness), THEN there's Christmas shopping. Let's just say I JUST have bought a FEW things. I have NOT exercised and I'm just TRYING not to eat too bad - haven't tracked a thing.
I would love it if we could all get together after the holidays and maybe meet and encourage one another, even start a challenge together!! Any ideas/ takers?
