Very impressive, Cirra...no grass grows under (or around) you for sure!

Just jumping in to wish everyone a lovely holiday weekend.

Keeping the service men and women, active and retired, in my thoughts. I truly know how blessed I am to live in this great country and know that many have sacrificed so much for it to be great.

TGIF PLOF!
Cirra, LOL, probably both although I was thinking the Audi.

It's another nice day here. My plan for today is to put away the winter clothes and see what fits from last year's warm weather gear. I'm trying to apply the Kon Mari technique of downsizing by asking if things still give me joy. With the prospect of joining households with Maureen I'm still looking for ways to cut back. It's going to be more of a challenge for her as she has a very large house and a garage full of her business equipment and materials. It's going to be a mental exercise for me to adjust to being around so much stuff again but the results are well worth it.

Working at sticking to 1500 calories or less. The biggest challenge is always getting enough protein since I don't eat much meat. Adding things like like flaxseed meal, protien powder, nuts and eggs help. I'm actually going to bake 2 lean pork loin chops I picked up at the Asian market and am going through bags of Frozen veggies two cups at a time made more palatable with a small bit of shredded cheese and Trader Joes spice blend. Good bulk and fibre.

Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day weekend. Let's remember those who have served in our military and have passed on and pray that in the future we can solve our problems without weapons and War. I wonder if that is even possible

Mo - No, not Belgium. I live in Texas at the bottom of the panhandle. I love Belgium ales though! I have been to Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and Morocco in travels (and France if you call the airport a visit! LOL). Hope to get to Europe one of these days....and back to Morocco! I want to go to Fez and Marrakesh. I was in Rabat (capital), visited Casablanca, small town named Belk Siri and to the beach about an hour from Belk Siri (can't remember the name of it). I spent three weeks there several years ago with my ex BIL and his family.

Good afternoon everyone!

WOW! Cannot believe it---sun----2 days in a row. However, we are suppose to get a lot of rain over the weekend. We will see.

Carol - I just finished my lunch, which for two days has been a banana with PB! Yesterday, I also had an apple, and today I had one slice of bacon with it. I live the PB and banana!
Do you mind saying what you do in the aircraft industry? Also, how did you get into the field you are in? It sounds interesting to me.

Cirra - Sounds like you have great plans for the weekend. Hope the weather is conducive for what you want to do ---not too hot and definitely not too rainy. Now, you are in Belgium? My spouse, Betsy, went there in college with her volleyball team. I recall that she enjoyed it a lot, but I will need to ask her about her memories of the trip again. Have you always lived there?

DG - Always good to hear news of someone looking forward to her day. Yes, our weather does seem similar from what I could tell from your posts so far. Is Dusky a dog> If so, what kind? If not, what is Dusky? :) Look forward to hearing about your day with Karen.

Cat - Hope you are feeling 100% as you head into this Memorial weekend.

Cheryl - Way to go on the bike and treadmill. Wednesday night at 10:15pm, our electric went out. About 400 people had their electric go out. On Thursday, I went to get on my treadmill, which I do to "The King of Queens" right now, and the tv wasn't working. I could not bear to be on the treadmill with nothing going on. :( Plus, I am in the middle of a project, so I went back to my project. I had good intentions-----stopping my project----to get on the treadmill. Even though it is a physical project, I know that consistent workouts are important. I am inspired by you and others that are getting your workouts in. I need to get better at workouts.

Well to all the PLOF---

Hello ladies.

DG - Yes, I am heading out of town for the long weekend. I will be down in the Dallas area and attending a Renaissance Faire in a town called Waxahachi. I worked at the fair for over 10 years and I mainly go to enjoy the entertainment and visit friends. I will also be spending some time with Kandice and her kids although we are not staying at the same place. The family is staying in the Ft. Worth area.

Cat - So, which sweet ride would Maureen like? The Harley or the Audi...or both! LOL

Our weather has been weird this week. Monday was in the 90's, Tuesday was in the 50's, Wednesday was back in the 90's and yesterday it hit 100 for the first time this year. I wish I had my decorative rain barrels and had them set up. Hopefully before fall and the rains we get then.

Carol, Cheryl, Mo, DG, Cat, NS, Gold and the rest of the wonderful ladies of PLOF that I am missing (not enough coffee in my body yet)...Have a wonderful and SAFE holiday weekend!

Good morning and Happy Friday friends,

Looking forward to the day with Karen. Will tell you all about it either tonight or tomorrow.

Cheryl - WOW what a work out !!!

Mo - your WI weather sounds a lot like MD weather, if you blink it could change any time of year.

Cat - sorry the tummy bug bit you but glad it's gone now. Hope that 1/2 a cookie doesn't send you back to craving the sugar.

Carol - sounds like you have a good start to relaxing these days off.

Enjoy the holiday ladies - Dusky is getting into trouble right now so I have to go. Bad Dusky !!!

Good morning ladies....

I'm getting ready to head out for a morning walk. Right now I'm enjoying some coffee and cuddling with my kitty cat. 3 years ago on memorial day I found him abandoned in the middle of a busy highway at 3 weeks old. He is such a sweetheart and has brought much joy to our lives.

Cat sounds like you have a wonderful weekend planned. I am sure glad you are are feeling better as we go into the holiday weekend!

Ooh...Mol, DG I hear you about the weather. It's great right now but we've had an awful lot of rain lately. It does affect your mood..
At least mine anyway. It's gonna be 85 here today...hope you can salvage your weekend.

Have a great day all...gotta get outside and walk walk walk!!

DG, I always am so touched and reminded by your aspiration statements. I am indeed thankful for all the blessings in my life and will try to pass some of it on today. Cheryl love your motivation and energy!!! Are you doing the gold panning near Juneau? Cirra sweet ride! I bet Maureen would like one of those!

I missed work yesterday due to a stomach bug, it wasnt pretty but almost all better today and back at work. Drank plenty of water but not much of an appetite.
Noel enjoyed his retirement party, many wonderful things were said by those who came students past and present, retired faculty and some members of his mens group. Chie looked delicate and lovely in her cherry blossom patterned kimono. She leaves today for home so I hope we can meet again in the future. I did well at the buffet with veggies, fruit, some cheese and shrimp. Half a glass of white wine and half an oatmeal cookie. Im over the hump with the sugar cravings but even that half of cookie could send me in the wrong direction. I need to be more mindful.

Carol, I have a 4-day weekend as well. We hope to take Juneau for a ride in the country and hopefully a gentle hike. Its also the annual Northwest Folklife Festival so maybe well go for an afternoon. Lots of music and people watching, not to mention food choices. I always enjoy hanging out in the drumming tent, its fun to do and very relaxing. Maureens sister is still a train wreck, missed her appointment with her surgeon yesterday and fell twice. Shes back at the hospital high as a kite on pain and sleeping meds. Please say prayers for her.

Hi Gold - hope you can check in soon.
Later dudettes!

Good morning PLOF!

DG - The weather here in WI has been just terrible. We finally have some sun today. I was getting pretty down on myself about the lack of pep I had during the week. When I spoke to Betsy about it, she said that everyone at her work was not in the best of moods. It was no doubt weather related. Our weather various so much. We had ONE great day that got hopes up that nice weather was here, and then came the tornadoes and the days of rain, wind, and clouds.

Carol - You work like my Betsy does. She works from 100 - 120 hours every 2 weeks, which includes most Saturdays. Have a great time on this rare 4 day off stretch, and I hope the weather cooperates.

Hope you all -------Cirra, Cheryl, Cat, Gold, NS, Lynn, and Gloria ---have a great day!

All for now PLOF ---

Thankful I got to the gym last night. Did a good push on the bike (3.5 miles) with a ghost rider (me on my last ride). It was neck-and-neck up the hill, but coming down I shaved 45 seconds off my time for about 14 mins total. Then got on the treadmill for 20 mins. This all after my lunch walk (and zaaz + some strength exercises).

Having a smoothie for breakfast and vegan pizza + salad for lunch. Probably a very light dinner since I'm getting my hair cut right after work.

Carol, we did a Jamaican cruise too. Every time I think of our cruise, I get a really (really) big grin on my face. It'll be fun traveling with friends.

DG, so sorry you're getting some crummy weather. We're supposed to have awesome warm weather (80s) for the holiday weekend. After our long, cold, wet winter, everyone is so ready for the sunshine.

Enjoy your day PLOF!

Good morning friends;

It's THANKFUL Thursday, just a day I make verbal a little something I am thankful for in this life. Altho everyday is a day to be thankful I like to share it with others thru out the day, I think it gives others the opportunity to think about it too. Life gets so busy and there's is so much going on in this world that we need to take a quiet moment and look at our lives and where we are in it an be grateful.

Take a moment, we are indeed blessed.

Have a beautiful healthy day ladies, TTFN

Good morning ladies....

Lots and lots going on. Today is the last day of work for me. I am very happy to have 4 days off. Mo...yes I always have overtime at work it just depends on how much I choose to do. I've cut my hours down to 9 hour days and every other weekend. It used to be 10 hour days and every weekend. Thats normal in the aircraft industry in Wichita. Good $$ but too much for this old lady!

Tonight its gym workout and then ball games. I think tomorrow I'll hit the nature path for a morning walk!

DG...Hope you see that sun. I identify...we've had a lot rain this year. The wheat crop needs some sun as the wheat harvest is only a couple weeks out!!

Cheryl...your excursions sound like fun! I wish I was going on a cruise. We went to the Caribbean a few years back and I would definitely go back there ..probably to an all inclusive . We loved Jamaica...a very interesting, friendly, yet poor country! It was eye opening!

Cirra, Cat, Gold, emoticon Waving to all...

Have a great day!

Good evening dear friends;

I'm not sure but I think this rainy dreary weather with no sun is making me very tired. I'm sleeping my 8 hours, eating healthy and drinking my water but just don't have the energy for much of anything when I get home. I sure wish I had a walking buddy perhaps this weekend I can take MYA (Rod and Angie's dog) out for one if the sun comes out ? Stranger things have happened !!!
I've read all your posts and wow everyone sure is busy doing stuff and making good choices it sounds like. I didn't take notes so I have to open another window. here goes........

Mo, I love PB and banana I eat it sometimes once a week either for breakfast on an English muffin or on a WW wrap for lunch. Have not tried the bacon with it tho'. Isn't that an Elvis fav ?? Yes I've pretty much been here everyday since I joined with the exception of 4 days when I was without my computer. I hate that a lost my streak but I know it was not avoidable, so I didn't beat myself up over it. SP is a good habit for me. Congrats on your water efforts sounds like your doing it !!! Oh yeah and I am really enjoying your photos.

Cat I think all that party setting up sounds like a workout to me !!! And congrats on your sit ups. I might be able to try them since it doesn't involve the arms. Course getting up and down on the floor is another matter, LOL. I'd love to hear that speaker, let me know how it is and if it's available on line somewhere?

Bravo to you Cheryl with your work outs and good eating. And what a nice friend Alma is I can imagine the surprise on your face. A pedicure is always a nice return treat, it would be a nice day together that you will both enjoy. Hope that tummy ache isn't anything lasting and just a 24 hour thing at most. Your excursions sound like a great time you will both be having.

Carol, I knew it was coming around soon. You've always mentioned the kids games and how much you enjoy them. Go have fun. We know where you are, LOL. We have a botanical garden here that I've never been to and may just ask my friend Al if he'd like to go with me sometime soon.

Cirra I know I've seen your pics but I think I need to have another looksee, it's been a while. Are you going away for the weekend? If so where to?

Gold, NS, and the MIA PLOF members, hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. Hope to hear from you when you can.

I hope I've caught up with all that's going on in your lives and I have to say I am so glad to enjoy hearing and know about it all. You all are like family to me and you each have a place in my heart.

Have a pleasant and peaceful evening friends.

Good evening Sparkers!

Cirra - Did you post a pic of your car or does Cheryl just know Audi's? Hope you have perfect weather to take advantage of the convertible this weekend.

Cheryl - Congrats on getting your awesome excursions booked. Your trip sounds like a trip of a lifetime. I am so excited for you. Good job on the workouts.

Do you know about making bacon in the oven? You put the bacon in a cold oven, set the oven for 400, and in 10-15 minutes (depending on how you like bacon and its thickness) you have bacon without the splatter and mess of a cook top.

DG - Have you been posting everyday on SP since 2010? If so, that is amazing.

Carol - I like the thought of PB and banana. I have both in the house and may just give it a try. That is so cool of you to spend time with the grandkids. Kids need people in their stands. Of course, I guess ---so do adults ---thus SP! Glad to hear that you are off on Monday. It sounds like you work A LOT.

Hope the eye is doing well, Cat.

Hope the thumb is doing well, Gold.

Hope NS, Lynn, and Gloria are all doing well!

Your car is beautiful, Cirra, have fun with the top down.

Well, I've given myself a stomach ache whatever I've done. Pretty stressful morning getting our excursions booked but I did it! Terri has her fishing (halibut) excursion and we're both doing a gold panning/salmon feast excursion + a couple's massage in the spa.

Walked at lunch today and may try to get to the gym after work. I'm trying to get into the habit that whatever else is going on in the evening will be there after my workout. I won't miss anything. I'm such a morning person and have actually done some strength/toning exercises this morning, but I need to visit the gym as often as possible to keep the momentum going.

DG, Carol, Cat, Mo, Gold, Cirra, NS, and there was another poster that I was hoping we'd hear from, and who else? Meri? Gloria? Sue? Wishing you all a great day!
emoticon cheers!

Hello ladies,
Another busy day. Missed yesterday taking care of stuff at the house. Catching up today.
Good news is the Audi is back in the land of the living. Will be in the convertible over the long weekend.

Hey ladies...guess what time it is? It's ball season for the kids. I've got 2 grand nephews and 6 grand nieces playing. So I'll be on the run now...if I weren't already. I went last night after my workout to watch and will be going tonight and tomorrow. Oh ...you gotta love it!

I am looking forward to the weekend. I know on Monday we will go to Botanica to a band concert. We go every year and listen to patriotic music..John Phillip Sousa....etc. We enjoy it!!

Have a healthy day!

Hey gals,

WOW! I figured out how to upload photos, so I put 3 photos on my Spark Page. After reading blogs and seeing how brave people were to take "before" pics, I did that also. However, I DID NOT put those on my site, and was I ever nervous putting the pics I did on my site as I so did not want to accidentally touch the wrong photo. :)

I had my 9 glasses of water in by 330, but still no huge increase in outflow. Is that TMI?

I have noticed that I have felt a little compulsive to eat the last two days, especially in the afternoons. I have done well though, staying under my calorie allotment, but a bit of a struggle. I can't say that I am hungry as the water has me filled to the brim. I think this weather is not helping and the beginning of the week is usually harder for me??

Cheryl - What a sweet friend Alma is. Was there a reason for the flowers and surprise or was it just because? I've never had a pedicure, but it sounds like you enjoyed yours - so glad that you could get it done.

Cat - The water went down even easier today. Good for you and the less plastic. There is definitely way to much waste and plastic. Did you here about the uninhibited island in the Pacific with all the garbage on it? It all washed up there. The number of items was ridiculous. Good for you on the sit ups. It is amazing how quickly the body will respond.

So everyone....I am curious if any of you have had Peanut Butter and Bacon on toast?

Also, I hope you all are doing well.......and spark on!!!!!!

So awesome to see everyone here.

Love your glasses, Cat and have fun at the party.

I'm plugging along doing what I can although I have had a bit of cake since Friday. I'm trying to keep my calorie intake within normal range and getting to the gym.

Got a pedicure last night but not before doing 10 mins on bike, 10 mins on treadmill and 10 mins on elliptical. It's nice that the salons stay open well into the evening and I made sure to request my favorite gal because they were busy at the shop.

Got a super nice card and flowers from my walking buddy, Alma. Her generosity was quite a surprise (there was a little something in the card) and very hard to accept but she said that's something I need to work on it. I'm more of a giver. So I've kept her sweet gift and am going to invite and treat her for the next pedicure before my cruise.

Gold, you continue to be in my thoughts and I hope you're doing okay and will be back posting on a regular basis. Take care and sending you a big hug.

Keep up the good work everyone! emoticon

Hello glorious team!!

MO way to go on your determination to up your water intake. Keep up the good work. Oh, and the straws are also hand washable as they come with a little brush but I just soak them in soapy water for a good while. I am determined to bring less plastic into my life in any way possible.

Weve been setting up for Noels retirement party across the road from where we work. It involves pushing a lot of carts back and forth and its HOT today. So much for my fancy outfit lol. Chie is going to come in a new kimono she brought with her from Japan cant wait to see that. I think were expecting between 50 and 70 people. He is/has been a very popular faculty member for many, many years. I bet hes in his 80s. Afterwards Maureen is picking me up and were going to grab a quick and healthy bite before attending a lecture by an African American Buddhist who is faculty at the UW. She is going to talk about Buddhism and Activism in the current climate. Should be interesting. After this my schedule should settle back into its usual quiet routine!

Oh, started doing evening situps last weekend and Im noticing the difference already. I may be fat around the middle but at least my fat is getting sucked in and activated. Ill take what I can get!

Good Morning Everyone,

Another day of rain and clouds here in WI.

The girls (3 cotons, Winter, Sawyer and Kismet) are busy barking at the deer in the yard. :) The deer would probably play with them if all three were not barking so much. The deer used to play with the terriers - Scout and Trooper. It was so cute to watch. My dogs are fenced in, but the deer would come up to the fence and engage with the girls.

Okay....I know you all have had salad, but have any of you had Peanut Butter and Bacon on toast sandwich? I love them. The way the hot bacon melts into the peanut butter ---so gooey.

I got a new drink container to help with the water intake. It was a slice to drink the whole thing (25 oz.) with breakfast. It made me sooooooooo full.

Well, I hope the rest of you have sun and warmth.

Take Care,
MO

Good evening friends!

First, I am thinking that all the focus on this site about drinking so much water is because there is no way you want to eat anything because you feel so full. :)

Cat - Thanks for the info on the Amazon straws, but what is a dishwasher? LOL
Along with salads, a dishwasher is another item that I have never had.
Glad that you and Maureen have your time together back. My Betsy has been working 6 days a week for a long time now, and we cherish our Sundays. I am always a little bummed on Monday's when she goes back to work.

Cirra - Thanks for the various water ideas. I had wondered if something like Crystal lite throws things off for weight lose? I thought that I had heard something like that.
You must be thrilled to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel with your renovations. .

All for now PLOF!

Wow Cheryl over 8 inches that must feel awesome and a great confirmation of all your hard work. Way to go to both you and Terri on supporting each other.

My weigh in was pretty awful this morning even after being so good last week with food and exercise. Ill just keep at it and hopefully something will click.

Cirra so excited about your house that is a huge amount of work youve had done and it sounds like you will practically have a brand new place! You and your parental units must be more than ready to move in!

Mo, the straw thing works for me too I notice I am able to finish the water much more quickly. I bought some stainless steel ones on Amazon, I just pop them in the dishwasher and theyve lasted forever.

DG, happy to hear you had fun at the wine fest, although I assumed you would! Gold, hope you are OK, when is the surgery?

I made it through the busy weekend, the best part was probably the brunch yesterday with Chie and Noel. Ill post a picture which was taken on my patio. Museum on Saturday was fun and some really awesome paintings but Seiko takes patience as she mansplains everything to me like Im a child. Oh well, gotta love her! I bailed on Moniques birthday party afterwards, got home from downtownand had a bad headache. It was sunny and breezy but apparently too much sun for me, plus walking up the steep hills to and from the bus was a workout!

Maureen has been busy taking care of her crazy sister (sorry, but it's true) the past week after her surgery. She took her back to her apartment this morning even though she really still needs monitoring. Sis was insistent and I think its because she just wants to take more of the painkillers than was prescribed. She is an addict and Maureen has been doling them out to her. Hopefully she doesnt end up making things worse. In any case Ill be very happy to be able to spend time with my lady again.

Hello ladies.

Last week was super busy at work and when I was at my desk I was analyzing data in Excel so no check-ins.

Gold - Sorry to hear about your thumb! Popping in the joints and muscles just doesn't sound good the older we get! It usually means we hurt something. Take care of yourself and recover so you can go gung-ho with your garden when you are released. Until then, you can be the one-armed gardner and your plants will appreciate your efforts.

Mo - No salad? Ever? That is amazing! I love different kinds of salads. Tabouli & fattoush are two of my favorite types of salads.
I drink different types of water and a lot of plain water. I like Pellegrino and Perrier but also drink flavored, zero calorie, unsweetened sparkling water. I also like Bai bubbles when I want something fizzy and low calorie. I also use an infuser and drink infused water if I am just not "feeling" the plain water. A hint of flavor is nice. I don't usually use anything like crystal lite but I know a lot of people that do.

Cat - Glad to hear the eye check-up was a good one and that you are nearing the end of the ordeal.

DG - Sounds as if the wine tasing was a lot of fun. The vendors are usually my favorite. Just seeing the arts and crafts (and usually buying SOMETHING) is a lot of fun.

Cheryl - Cruise time is getting near! The leather jacket sounds awesome.

Carol - I may take Friday off and make it a 4 day weekend myself. It kind of depends on how the week shapes up. If it gets busy again then I will work Friday. If it stays slow like today...I will definitely take it off!

NS - Hope you are at the station enjoying all the fun. How was the mini-gym?

Not much happening here. The house renovations are just about done! Maybe by the end of the week. The guys are currently painting. The trim is done, and two of the bedrooms had the walls rolled Friday when I got home. Today they will get the living room and the third bedroom rolled and roll another coat on the walls in my room and probably a coat in the middle bedroom. Hallway looks good. After that, it is move the appliances in and hook them up, put the hardware on the cabinets, put the handicap rails in the shower in the common bathroom, move the furniture back to where it belongs and clean up. The new fireplace doors will not be in until mid June so they will need to come back and replace those. I think another clear coat will be going down on the hardwoods too. In any case, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer! I can't hardly wait!

So awesome Cheryl! Way to go. What a great start you have for the warming weather--- to be down 20 and feeling ready to attack each day with those missing inches. You give me motivation and inspiration for where I can be--- hopefully with some warm weather left in the year.

Woo Hoo, happy Monday indeed!

I'm super excited about my healthy efforts over the past 6-8 months and really the most recent push of 3-4 months. Not only am I losing weight, on Saturday I checked my measurements and was pleased to see 8 inches lost. Makes such a difference in how my clothes fit.

We had a good weekend with lots of activity in the yard. Plus we did the wii and zaaz. While one of us was on zaaz for 12 mins, the other did training exercises on the wii (it's an obstacle course).

So I lost 20 lbs in 2015 and then gained it back in 2016. This time I'm losing it a little more slowly and hopefully will keep it off. I feel so much better at 186 than I do at 206.

It's sunny in Seattle and I didn't need to wear a jacket to work for the first time this year.

Wishing you all a good day and a great week!

DG - Thanks for the tip on the straw. I had a good start with 16 oz of water with breakfast, and then somehow I got behind by tonight, so I used a straw to quickly down 16 tonight to get me on pace.
I also have the water goal set. Thanks.

Mo, you can weigh on Saturday morning if you like that way you won't have BD foods to add to the scale, LOL !!!

You can make it your own personal challenge on your START page if you like and that way you can earn those points as well. Let me know if you need help with that.

I start and end each day off with my START page and my own personal daily goals.

Thanks DG----I like the idea of 8 glasses of water a day for a challenge. If it were made as a separate topic, we could respond daily gaining more Spark points. I see it done that way under the main page message board for motivation.
I did not meet the challenge.
More than likely, I will not be home the morning of June 4th as I will be attending my sister's b-day gathering the night before which is 5 hours away, so we probably will not drive back until Sunday morning. Oh....I can maybe take the scale with me.

Ok Mo,
I've added you and your weight to the challenge that you will find on the team forum page under the CHALLENGES, EXERCISE and RECIPES thread. It's the 1st one under that to click on. You can post there every other week and at the top of the chart you will see the next weigh in date. Also when you post your results just indicate yes or no if you had at least 10 minutes of exercise each day.

To the rest of the team, are there any challenges you would like to add for the weigh ins, like maybe our water intake (8, 8oz glasses per day) ??? or another idea ???? Just post it in your next post if you have a suggestion. Thanks

Another cloudy, rainy, breezy day here in Northern WI., but my mood is good and my babe is home!

I have had a lot of restarts over the years, and today is intended to be another one. I joined SP about 3 weeks ago, and I now feel that I have a handle on the tools available through SP to help me be successful. As part of my commitment, I am joining the W/L challenge and I am making my ticker the weight I am along with my goal weight. I also plan to increase my water to the 8 cups a day.

DG - My weight was 237.0 this am. Is this where I tell you?
Sounds like you had an exhausting, but fun-filled day at the festival.
About 2 years ago, I was going to try a new veggie once a month. I made it two months, but I did come away putting spinach on my Subway sub. The first time, I asked for one piece of spinach, and I survived. Next time, I asked for two pieces, and I survived. Next, I asked for three pieces, and I survived. After that I just asked for spinach. Unfortunately, I do not go to Subway any longer, so no more spinach mixed in with my sandwich.

Whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, I get chicken fried rice. After about my sixth time at one place, the waitress after always seeing my pile of peas and carrots when I was done, told me that I could order it without peas and carrots. :)

Awesome Carol - Thank you so much for making me LOL this morning when I got my salad. So funny! Now, that is a salad I can enjoy. For the record, one improvement that I have made is that I will eat some veggie type items on a sandwich - lettuce & tomato - if it comes that way. However, the thought of eating a whole mass of veggies ....?????????????

Cat - Glad to hear your eyes are doing better. Have fun in the pool.

Gold - Hope you are on the mend.

To all PLOF members....enjoy this day!

Good Sunday morning friends; ..... don't forget it's weigh in day !!!

WOW what a day it was yesterday, very enjoyable day out and about but exhausting just the same. I arrived at the wine fest a few hours earlier than my shift and just walked around to sample some wines. OMG, it was sooooo crowded and the lines at EVERY wine station was wayyyy to long to wait in for samplings. Thankfully I've been to enough wine festivals in MD that I have pretty much sampled them all before. I was able to enjoy some of the arts and craft vendors that were there so it wasn't too bad, and I got lots of steps in for about 2 hours !!! Then my shift for 2 hours was just standing and I served up the sampling of - get this - wine slushies !!! A white and a red, which would have been great on a very hot day but the temps were just in the 60s so it was a little slow going but still I enjoyed it all. I bought 6 bottles of wine with my 20% off !!! It was a very long day and I was glad to get home and just put my feet up.
Today I have plenty of laundry to do and a little grocery essentials to get in and Dusky needs pellets.

Cheryl don't forget to post your weight results hon? And remember that yard work counts as activity!!!

Mo I am still wondering how you never even tried salad or fresh veggies !!! Our tastes sometimes change thru out life so you should at least give some a try, you never know until you try !!! Water - try to start a water routine, 1st thing in the morning and adding thru out the day. A straw can help for large amounts or just downing a quick 8 oz gets it in quick too !!!
Cute story about your nephew !!!

Cat good to hear your eye dr visits are down to 1 left. Indeed having a pool available is a big benefit. Nice to be able to do the laps, or just relaxing with a nice books or chit chat with a friend. Enjoy it as much as possible. Do you know what kind of bird it is?

Gold I hope you are feeling better by now and enjoying yourself with what makes you happy.

Cirra, NS, and our returning member, hope to see you soon.

Have a wonderful Sunday ladies. TTFN

Good morning....

Mol... I drink water all day...plain water. I do like a twist of lemon in it but I don't drink crystal lite or anything like that. Very interesting about the salads. I love salads especially chopped salad...kale, Brussels sprouts, all kinds of lettuce and greens. There are foods i hated as a child and tasted as an adult and loved...oatmeal, yogurt, spinach to name a few! You never know!

Cat...glad you are doing well recovering from all your surgeries. So lucky to have a pool for the summer.
..that would be nice!

DG...Cheryl....Gold....hope you are having a lovely weekend!

I'm headed to the gym!

Happy Saturday all,

DG, have fun at the wine festival! Mo, I don't know what I would do without my veggies. Fresh is best. Fresh greens with a bit of protein like chicken or shrimp mixed in is delish. With all that land you have maybe you could plant a small space with greens, etc. I find if I grow it myself it tastes even more delish :-) Do let us know when you've made the leap!

My eye is much better, the doctor was pleased. a couple more weeks on the drops, 1 more checkup and I should be done with this circus. The dinner out last night was great - we went to a tiny dumpling house in my hood, new to me. I had the egg drop tofu spinach soup with pork dumplings. So good and enough for another small meal in the fridge. I"m getting ready to meet Seiko to go to the museum, Marcy is under the weather and Maureen has to work. I bought some new pots and plants yesterday and had fun last night getting the patio and front area looking nice while Emily from next door kept me company.

Our pool is ready to open for Memorial Day and when I walked by yesterday there was our resident mallard couple serenely floating in the middle. It was cute. Last year I didn't use the pool because of the knee surgery but this year I will def avail myself. There is plenty of room for short laps and deep enough for water aerobics. Speaking of birds the fushia and hummingbird feeder hasn't attracted hummingbirds yet but the flower is being visited by a darling little song bird. Not sure what he's doing in there - maybe making a nest???

Keep up the great work everyone! Condolences to your work friend Carol. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Greetings PLOF,

Question.......When it comes to drinking water, do you think there is a health advantage to drinking plain water versus water spiked with say crystal lite? Do you think vitamin water is equal to plain water?

Drinking water seems to be a huge push on this site. Drinking water is something that I have gotten better at over the past few years, but I lack consistency with it. I used to be a huge soda drinker, but I have been able to put together some long streaks of being soda free. It seems to get easier and easier each time, and I actually find myself craving water.

Carol - Funerals are tough, but your friend will appreciate your presence. It is very thoughtful of you to go. It sounds like a very tragic situation.
I am going to keep you and the strides you have made in my thoughts to keep me motivated. Thank you for sharing your journey.

DG - Happy to hear you have pleasant temps for your wine festival. We have low 40's here in WI and very cloudy and windy.

DG and Cheryl - I so do not see myself ever eating a salad. We never had salads as a kid. When we did have veggies with dinner, they usually tasted horrible ---never any fresh items. I would say my not having eaten a salad is largely due to the culture I grew up in and then a lack of exposure to people who embraced salads when I got older. There were not a lot of cops stopping to get a salad for dinner. LOL
I recall taking my now 30 yoa nephew when he was about 8 to Burger King for a day out with Auntie. I placed my order of a burger, fries and a soda and then told JJ to say what he wanted. When the first thing he asked for was a salad, I can still recall my reaction of complete shock that someone---especially a 7 yoa would ask for a salad. I literally felt like someone had pulled a prank on me. My dad has never ever had a salad either in his life. When my dad and I go out for a meal together, it is ironic how often we order exactly the same way with the same items.

Cheryl - Glad to hear that you also have warm temps. The nice temps can certainly enhance life. No sun or warm temps in the forecast here in WI.

Cat, Gold, Cirra, and the rest of the PLOF team............
Enjoy this weekend!

Jumping in quickly to say I did indulge in the cake after all but that's okay. I passed on Fri night martini and the scale was kind to me this morning. Today I will push hard and drrink lots of water.

Mo, you've never had a salad...it's one of my favorite foods: cobe salad, crab Louie's, garden salad and Caesar salads...live them!!

We're going to the gym this morning and will continue our work in the yard. DG, the wine festival sounds like so much fun!

Carol, you have done such a great job with weight loss and maintenance. Woo hoo!!

Okay PLOF...have a great day!!! It's sunny and warm in Seattle!!!

Good Saturday morning friends;

Carol, sorry you are at work again this weekend, and afterwards will have a funeral to attend. Kinda puts a damper on the 1st day of the weekend ..... just continue to show what a kind and caring woman you are.

Mo, I have to admit you are the 1st person I've ever heard that has never had a salad. Any particular reason why? If you don't have allergies you really should make it a part of your diet. I eat them often. Let us know when you have your 1st !!!

Cheryl, no donuts and cake that's just awesome. Cake is my weakness but donuts I haven't had since 2010. I know you are gonna look great in that leather jacket too. Have you started shopping for your cruise attire yet?

I'm looking forward to the wine festival today, no sun here yet but temps are pleasant. Will have a healthy breakfast of yogurt, fresh mango and granola before the festival. The winery I am pouring for will have beverages ( water I'm sure) and snacks for us volunteers. After the festival I will stop at Wegmans for a special healthy treat for my dinner.

That's what's on my agenda for today ladies hope you have a pleasant healthy day as well.

Good morning ladies....

Mol...I have gone to the gym 3 times a week minimum for the past 6 years. Our YMCA s in Wichita are beautiful facilities. I have heard in some cities the Ys are dicey...they are top of the line gyms here. I typically do 60 minutes cardio and 20-30 strength training. On days I don't go to the gym sometines I walk on the treadmill at home or on the walking path near my home for extra minutes. This is all after working a 9 hour day. emoticon I stay busy...keeps me outta trouble.

I gotta say Mol. I worked up to this. When I first started Sparkpeople in 2010...at 250 lbs, all I did was walk and count calories. I still count calories and exercize..thats it!

You all have a good day. I'm headed to work...later, sadly I have a funeral. A co-workers mother was tragically killed in a car wreck last week I never shared this...I've worked with him 20 years and feel I need to go.

Have a great day!

Greetings PLOF,

Carol - so glad you survived the storm without any issues. I was on the road Wednesday when another surge of storms was headed my way, so I sought shelter in a casino. :) I ended up spending the night, and I left ahead----which I then lost at another casino on the way home. However, casino stops throw off my whole desire for consistency in life, and I am going to put gambling on a shelf for now. I/we have lots of fun when we are there, but I think it gets in my way of being healthier as you do not burn too many calories sitting at a machine or table!
I love hearing about your dedication to working out at a gym. How often for how long have you been going to the gym?

Cheryl - Good job passing on the cakes and donuts ---those are two of my weaknesses. Would you believe that I have never had a salad? Can you tell me more about the BCAA that you are using? I am not good at drinking things that do not taste good. How does BCAA taste? Have fun finishing up your yard work, and styling and profiling in your new leather jacket!

Cat - 4 days w/o sugar - Excellent. It looks like your days will be so busy that you will have little time to think about sugar. Betsy (partner of 22 years - wish it was 32) saw Cotons featured on Dogs 101. They seemed like the perfect fit for our lifestyle. We had looked at area shelters, but here in the rural north that are filled with large breeds. Especially with all the travel we do, we were not interested in large breeds.

Gold - Best wishes on your thumb surgery and recovery.

DG - Enjoy your Wine Festival and the excitement of Preakness activities. It is a little late now, but I was still glad to have a friend admit that she is sorry for her DT vote.

Cirra - Hope you have good weather for enjoying that Harley.

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend filled with fun activities and healthy foods!

Happy Friday indeed!

Passed on donuts and cake today. Scale was up a bit this morning and I want to push for a better weigh-in to post in the morning. We got a really good walk at lunch although the warm sunshine made me kind of drowsy on my empty stomach. I have to be careful with my food intake before I walk. Anyway, I've had my salad now and feel good. Will start to push the water.

We're doing more yard work this weekend and hopefully finish so it's just maintenance.

Have a great weekend PLOF!!

TGIF, ladies woo hoo !!!

Carol so glad the storms were not as bad as predicted and you are all safe and sound.

That's great Cat that you have eliminated sugar for the last 4 days, it really does make a difference. Keep it up as long as you can.

Cheryl good news that your numbers were so good. I think we are getting ready to have our annual healthy fair too. I'll get mine done there too. It's always a good thing they do that and we get lots of give aways too !!!

It's Preakness weekend here in MD, lots of events going on this weekend but I'll be volunteering at a local Wine Festival tomorrow. Really looking forward to it and the weather should be comfortable. Not sure about Sunday yet.

Ok ladies time to get rolling here so wish every one a good healthy Friday. Stay strong and be kind to others with that smile on your face emoticon

Good morning...

All is well here...we got some rain and win but nothing else. There were some tornadoes in Kansas but nothing like they predicted...thank goodness! Better to be safe then sorry.

I'll be going to the gym tonight and working tomorrow. I'm not sure what else I'll be doing this weekend. Probably resting!

Have a great day!!

Wow, Cat, you are going to be busy.

Loved the heath fair today. I tested this new thing out (LEVLnow.com) and it tests how well you're burning fat by measuring the acetone concentration in your breath. Anyway, she said I had one of the highest results that was measured for the day and I think it's because I'm drinking the BCAA.

Had this for lunch as my main meal of the day. Have a hard time chewing slowly and enjoying it. It was good with many flavors. I'm trying but that is something I have to work on constantly - chewing slowly.

Gold, so sorry about your thumb but glad to hear you were up to gardening. You always have a great attitude! Carol, hope the bad weather goes around you. Cheryl, Ill believe it when I see it about the sunshine. I have a sweatshirt and thermal shirt on today. Although Maureen says it will reach 80 in the next few days-I think shes had enough gardening in the cold rain! Mo, you sound motivated to make good changes, hope you can keep checking in on your trip.

This weekend is way too busy for me. Tomorrow I have a check-in with a retinal specialist, hopefully that challenge is healing. Its not bothersome except for all the drops. Then in the evening Im going to a Chinese dumpling place with 2 co-workers. Saturday going downtown with Marcy and Seiko to catch the last chance to see a show of very famous landscape paintings at the museum. That evening is a bday party down the street for Monique. Sunday Im having have a lunch at my house for a former visiting scholar from Japan and one of my fave faculty who is unfortunately (for us) retiring the end of the quarter. Not sure yet what the menu will be. Somewhere in there I have to go grocery shopping, clean the house and do some potting of patio plants. Maureen helped me shampoo my carpet last weekend and it looks beautiful.

Im on day 4 of no sugar except fruit. My fiber count is lower than it should be but Im in the correct range for protein, carbs, fats and calorie range except for that 50 over on Monday. Good walks everyday too. Hope I start to see some changes on the scale. The coffee shop with its maple bars is calling so I better go have an apple!
Take care all.

Yes, Gold, hope your surgery is successful and you have a speedy recovery. emoticon

We're having our health fair today and I have an appointment with the nurse to check bp, bmi, cholesterol, etc. I save my results each year and hope this is a good one. 2015 was excellent but 2016 I had put the weight back on. I feel fortunate that blood work always comes back really good.

Keep safe, Carol, and hope your community stays safe as well.

Down on the scale a couple of ounces but I'm going to have to get lots more emoticon emoticon in and push hard to get into the 180s.

5 weeks to go for cruise kick-off. I got a new short leather jacket that was back ordered and it finally arrived yesterday. I bought the smaller size (14 and not the 16) and it fits fine. If I lose 5 more pounds it'll be perfect but there's no way I would have wanted it any bigger. All the reviews said size was "true" and I'm glad I took their advice.

Happy Thursday PLOF...enjoy your day
emoticon they say the sun's coming and I couldn't be more excited and it sounds like it's going to be quite a stretch (7-10 days). emoticon

Good morning ladies...

I looked out my front window this morning and there was a big ole racoon eating at the bird feeder. Not an unusual sight as I'm in a small town at the edge of town and country. Its better than those ugly possums!

Looks like dicey weather today...tornado threat! This will be worse for us than the other night. It's my gym night but I may just come home today snd go tomorrow when the weather straightens out!

Gold..Oh my take care! Hope your thumb surgery goes well and the recovery speedy! I'll be thinking about you and sending healing thoughts.

Working this weekend but I'm thinking memorial weekend needs to be extended by a day... 4 days would be Nice!

Have a good day!

Hello out there.
Just checking in. Tomorrow I'm getting a new thumb joint in my left hand. I'm told that hand won't be doing much for up to 6 weeks. The other day I was trying to do some light work in my garden when I picked up something and heard a pop and felt a sharp pain down the front of my right arm. Now I have a BIG muscle and I don't even have to flex my arm.

I'm sure glad I come from sturdy stock cause other wise this getting old would be a bummer. I am limited my gardening to a few tomato plants, zucchini, herbs, potatoes and lettuce. I don't know what I'll be able to do one handed. I already stop strangers and ask them to unscrew my gas cap or open my bottle of water.

I read all your post and often like to respond to things you say, but I'm just not able to right now. Just know that I am thinking about you all.

Hi all you wonderful PLOF !!!

I just had to pop in quickly to say WOO HOO regarding the DT news tonight - finally things are looking a little positive for the resistance and that whole he's digging himself is getting deeper !!!

I typed a long post and hit something on this laptop and lost the whole darn thing...... ggrrrr.

I need to figure out a better position to use this thing cause my neck is killing me. I think it has something to do with my short arms ????

Keep up the good job you all are doing, keep in mind weigh in is Sunday. I'm think I'm doing well enough since the scale has stayed the same. If I can stick to good choices and portioned meals I may be able to see less on Sunday ???

Wishing everyone a good evening friends.

Yes, Happy Hump day!
Well, I have a few more signs of how SP has helped me.
After just a few hours of sleep, I needed to leave the house quickly to get to a Roadtrek dealer maintenance appointment-- 2 hours from home. I was an hour late-- ops!
However, before I left I made myself a healthy sandwich that I knew would fill me and keep me satisfied. I also brought along 3 pieces of fruit. This was also my first day of drinking LOTS of water-- I used to never drink water-- but I had 45 ounces just on the drive over. It was a good thing the Roadtrek has a bathroom as I NEEDED to pull over. :). So, now I am hanging out trying to earn Spark Points, and continue to get motivated.
J
DG- Just for clarity, it's 22 years. I wish that I was lucky enough to have know Betsy even 10 years earlier. :)

I am hoping to figure out how to post photos.

Look forward to hearing from all of you.

Happy Hump Day!

Mo I had to google Cotons how cute they are. 160 acres wow!!! And congrats on your 32 year relationship what a great story full of synchronicity - you were meant to be together. DG 90 already wow and keep cool.

Day 2 of logging calories went well. I was only 50 over for the day my goal is 1300-1650 cals per day. My connecting bus was late this morning so I took a 20 minute walk into work, some uphill so was out of breath when I got here. Had 2 walks yesterday for about 40 mins total. Checked the scale this morning and not moving yet. Ill check again Sunday. I made 2 servings of dinner last night so I could be prepared and bring one for lunch today (cod fillet, jasmine rice, kimchee, apple, baby carrots and snap peas). I went ahead and logged for today so I will stick to it exactly and should have only about 1350 for today. This is the way I lost 35 lbs 3 yrs ago, so it works for me. Id love to lose 50. Maureen says she likes me the way I am but I know I need to lose for my health and my other knee!

Gold, hope your health is improving and you are getting back to your usual active routine. Keep up the good work everyone and have a great day.

Good morning and Happy Hump Day friends;

Thanks for taking the time to share with us Mo, it is so nice to have you with us. So glad we were helpful in making your decision it will be good to hear about it when it is over. Sounds like you and yours have a beautiful relationship. May it forever continue to grow in love and peace.

Carol my friends (Al and Ron) are now living at Ron's bro and SIL about and hour drive north from me. Their problem will be commuting anywhere as neither of them can drive do to eye problems so they will have to rely on others and things like Uber and Lyft. They have a lot of work to get the apartment in the basement ready and livable so for now they are staying upstairs with the bro and SIL .... I told him to let me know how that works out , ha !!!

So glad its Wednesday and hope today is better than yesterday at work. I'm prepared with good food choices and a positive attitude to get thru. Hope you all are too.

Have a mindful day of healthy things.

till soon ..........

Good morning ladies...

You lovely ladies gave some wonderful advice on Mol's situation so I'm not chiming in... I could not add anything. I have a great relationship with my brothers and sisters...always have. We are close and I consider myself very, very lucky!

Mol...sure hope you are Okay! I saw the devastation in Wisconsin on the national news just now. We had a few tornadoes last night here in Kansas but nothing close to what you, Texas , and Oklahoma had. We got lucky...it wasn't near me.

Oh hey Mol...i married my wife in 2015 after being together for 30 years. That's how long it took Kansas to get it together. We celebrate 2 anniversaries now. This year in November will be 32 years.

Well...sounds like everyone is doing well. DG...do your friends from Belize live near you now. That would be nice to have them around!

That's about all I have at 4am...have a great day. Time to get ready for work!

First, Thank you all or your input on my question about attending my sister's birthday party. I have decided to go, and thanks to you I will be sporting a different attitude than I would have without your input. :)
Next, several of you have asked me questions that I have not answered. I needed some time to get familiar with this site and comfortable with putting info out there. I hope I answer them all, but if I don't please ask again.
I currently reside in rural WI with my spouse and 3 Cotons (Winter, Sawyer, and Kismet). We got the 3 cotons 4 years ago when our 2 Norfolk Terriers started to get show their age. For a few years, we were blessed to have all 5, but then we lost the Norfolks - one in 2015 (Scout) and one in 2016 (Trooper). Betsy and I have been together for approximately 22 years. We had set an anniversary date of 8-26, starting in 1995, but we also got married in MN on 8-26-2013. Once marriage became legal in MN and not yet in WI and it would be our 18th anniversary, we jumped on the chance to get married thinking the parallel between 18 years to be an adult and it taking us 18 years to get married was a bit funny. We had also originally set the date of 8-26 as our anniversary date because it falls right between our birthdays. Mine is the 27th and Betsy's the 25th. We were born in the same year of 1959 when Alaska and Hawaii became states. Betsy grew up in Northern Virginia, and I have always been in WI, but we were about 45 miles apart in different hospitals when we were born. We met on a softball field ---the one and only year we played for that particular team! She is an angel, and my life has been immensely blessed by knowing and being with her.
When we met, I was a City of Milwaukee Police Officer, and Betsy was a psychiatrist working with community health. Betsy encouraged me to fulfill a dream that I had of going to college for teaching. After 18+ years with the dept., I resigned in order to finish college. My last day on the city payroll was leap day 2000. I got my degree in 2003, and we decided to re-locate to Northern WI as we had been enjoying the outdoor activities that it had to offer. Plus, I grew up a rural kid, and really wanted out of the city. We bought a house in Winter, WI. Unfortunately, our work kept us 1.5 hours south of Winter, so we picked up a cabin on 160 acres to stay at during the work week. However, we are here about 95% of the time. More about that over time.........
In March of 2016, I received notice from MPD that I needed to start receiving my pension in August of 2016. There was an additional incentive if I also quit my state teaching position. So, after crunching numbers, it only made sense to retire. I currently have no idea how I had time to work. I just realized that since August of 2016, we have been gone from home for 1 solid week a month and then usually some additional days.
Back in 2002, as funds for community mental health were drying up, Betsy took a job with the state prison system. She is the lone psychiatrist at 2 prisons. About a year ago, she took on an additional position within the system to care for the inmates that are transitioning as their hormone specialist/physician. It is this position that requires her to travel for a week --every other month. The girls and I almost always go with her. She needs our help! We have a Roadtrek (small class B motor home) that we travel in so that the girls are comfortable no matter what the weather.
We do not have any children, but Betsy has a 32 yoa Godson, who really is like her son. He lives in VA with his longtime GF. The relationship that he and Betsy have is amazing.
All for now on this front........
Thank you once again for chiming in with your .02 cents as it was extremely valuable to me. You provided me with a needed different perspective to view the situation.
I best get some sleep as I need to drive the Roadtrek to the Roadtrek dealer 2 hours away in the morning.
I hope you all have a marvelous day!

Ok here's my 2 cents as well.

I say go if not for anyone but your Dad. At 82 he deserves to be happy and have his family around him. Stay close to him and wish your sister a HB is whatever kind way you feel comfortable, never leave a bad taste in someone's mouth. Smile and be kind and you will feel good about yourself. NEVER worry about what others may think, that's their problem to deal with how they react/present themselves, not yours. You have yourself to answer to and as long as you are kind you can be proud you did the good thing.

Believe me I deal with unkind even mean people at times thru out each day but I never take it to heart I just smile and be kind, some even smile back. I understand the difference is family and that can indeed be very hard because it hurts, if that happens just think how happy you are making your Dad. Leave when and if you feel things are just to unbearable.

Let us know what you decide hon.

Busy crazy day at work, way too many people calling out and others having to be shifted around to cover shifts with not enough staff as is it. THANKFULLY I was not too directly involved in all that but just a little was enough. I didn't have a relief person so had to run to the gift shop for unhealthy snack mix, but did not eat the whole bag. I had intended on getting some veggies from the caf but that just wasn't happening. I made up for it at dinner with all healthy foods and portioned sizes.

Did I mention my friends from Belize are back home now and twice Al has called me at unable to talk times. So he finally got his cell phone today and called me at work to give me the number to call him. I hope to do that later tonight or tomorrow.

Not much chance to get extra steps in today so hope tomorrow is better with that. Temps are rising to the low 90s for the next 2 days and humidity may be on the rise with it. It's my kind of weather so looking forward to it. An evening stroll may be in order.

Signing off ladies enjoy the evening.

Weather is (kind of) ugly today and I'm blaming it for my poor mood.

But, I did get to the gym for a late lunch and burned 200+ calories and broke a small sweat so yeah!

Friday is supposed to be sunning and 70 and I certainly hope so. It's weird how the slow start to spring is affecting me. Glad I'm pushing hard to get the exercise in because that helps.

Have a great day PLOF... emoticon

Terrific Tuesday all...

Mo, I agree with Cheryl, youve reached out to your nephew and hes the one getting married. Just because your sister is your sister it doesnt mean you have to allow her to make you feel bad. It really comes down to whether you will feel bad afterwards if you dont go and it doesnt sound like you would. And to heck with what other people think at our age I think we deserve to be true to our feelings. As far as her birthday party Id probably go just so bridges arent totally burned. I have only one sibling and Im ALWAYS the one to reach out to him. We only see each other a couple times a year even though he doesnt live that far away and speak by phone a few more times. Hes never had a computer or smart phone so that makes it even harder to connect. We love each other and I worry about him too as hes a lifetime bachelor and somewhat of a loner but he always seems content when I see him. Were planning on getting together on Memorial Day for the service at the VA cemetery where mom and dad are interred.

Speaking of sisters, Maureens who has caused her nothing but grief in this lifetime is coming to stay with her for 2 weeks today. She is having surgery on her spine to move some vertebrae. She is coming with 2 dogs and will need care. Maureen is an angel and has nursed many of her siblings but this is the only one left now out of 5. I begged her to see if Monica could stay in a care facility but that subject wasn't broached.

I did fairly well with my calories yesterday Im trying for 1500, but I caved near bedtime with some toast and jam. Im trying to eat only during mealtime the snacks are what is killing me. I'll get there.

Weve got a 3 hour School of Nursing retreat this afternoon hope I can stay awake. Its so hard to sit still for that long. Hugs to you all,
Cat

Hi, Mo.

I will chime in too.

Your sister sounds a lot like what mine was like until a couple of years ago. She barely spoke to me but would get very angry if I didn't find time for her kids and grand-kids. She was beyond pissed when I went to Morocco for the birth of her ex husbands first child. He and I are close and he wanted me there. I wasn't going to go but a dear friend offered to let me borrow the $2000 for the round trip flight (would have been less but he didn't give me a lot of advance time to plan so there was a bit extra for the shorter notice). At the time I was paying rent and the mortgage on my home in a different city where my parents, a niece and my sister were living. So, not a lot of extra $$ as the rent and mortgage were about the same. I set up payments to go to my friend each payday until I paid her back. But my sister was livid I could go to Morocco for her ex but not to FL for the birth of her 3rd (we now have another but that is a different story) grand daughter. I told her that if she was willing to pay for my trip I would be there.
In any case, for years (and I mean decades), she barely spoke, made life unpleasant, questioned the motivation for anything (i.e. when I would ask her if she wanted to go to dinner she would ask me why) and was just very negative and even hostile.
Then, December 26, 2015 a tornado hit my house where they were living. Mom and dad were with me, my niece was in FL with her sisters and nieces, my sister...she had just been dropped off after dinner and was in the house when it took a direct hit. It changed her. She is more family oriented now, meaning not just a focus on herself, her girls and grand daughters, but with mom, dad and I (she still won't give our brother the time of day but I have little contact with him either and don't blame her very much). She reaches out, she talks, not often but she does. She spends time with us when we are in town and even asks when we are coming again.
Through the decades of her pushing everyone away I still tried. I didn't completely shut her out and ignore her. So, I guess what I am saying is, yes, I would go to the surprise party. You are good with the rest of the family and they harbor no resentment for the things she apparently is using as an excuse. I would hug her and tell her I love her and stick around for a while then make and exit and do something I wanted to do.
There is always hope they will one day see what they are doing and how they are treating people and expecting others to do what they want and not taking in to account that the others have their own lives that don't center around them. I can happen as my sister shows.
For me, I try and act like the person I want to be and I try not to be the one who cuts ties or refuses to grab the life line that is out there. In the end, even thought the family is not close, you are family.

Anyway, long story for my $0.02!

Mo, I have to chime in.

I only have a brother older by 2 years and I may or may not send a birthday card depending on nothing more than whether I get it in the mail. He doesn't call nor send cards because he has a full plate and I've just gotten tired of being the driving force in our relationship. I do my best to be there as a sister and aunt to his kids without sacrificing too much. It's hard to have one-sided relationships or relationships that are based on selfish expectations.

If there was a 60th party for my brother and I had the time, I would go, but I would also make it a fun trip, stopping along the way, etc. and limiting my time with family.

I'm glad to hear you reached out to your nephew. It sounds like you've covered your bases.

Hope that helps.

Greetings on this Tuesday.

I am looking for a "weigh-in" of a different sort this morning. Any and all of your comments are appreciated.

Here is my situation.

Approximately, 7 years ago I sent my only sister (older by 2 years) a birthday card with lottery tickets in it. Shortly thereafter, My phone rang and I saw it was my sister calling. I got excited and felt emotionally very happy that she was calling. I had made an assumption that it was to thank me for the b- day card. Instead, there was no mention of the card, but she began chastising me for replying that I would not be attending her only son's wedding. She went on and on, and any reason that I offered was discounted. The wedding was over a 4th of July, and I live 5 hours away for the tourist town where they were having the wedding. However, my main reason for not attending was that we had company scheduled from CO- 2 gals and there 2 dogs. My sister's comment was that if it were her and her friends that her friends would be willing to come to the wedding also. I said that I was not about to ask my friends that drove from CO to Northern WI to now drive another 5 hours---not to mention their dogs and ours. I also said to my sister that if it was so important that I "her only sister" attend, why was I not notified earlier that when invites came out which was at a time when I already had commitments. If my attendance was so important than I would have thought my sister would have informed me to keep the date available months earlier--- as she knew of the wedding for a long time. The call ended with her hanging up on my. Needless to say, I did not get a b- day card from her that year or any year since, and I stopped sending one to her.
Other notes about the situation: I spoke to my nephew about my not attending his wedding, and he had no issue with it. My nephew had been living with the gal for several years in a house they purchased and had one child together. We are not a close family.

So, here is the main question for your input: There is a surprise 60th birthday party for my sister in June. Do I/we go?

Last notes: It would make my 82 yoa father happy if I went. My one brother will definitely not attend. ( I had 2 brothers, but one passed.). I dragged myself to her 4th wedding 1.5 years ago and dreaded every minute of it. Because she is so good at projecting what a wonderful person she is, I feel like people think I am an ass for not going to these things.

Morning all you lovely lady friends,

WOW lots of chatter I missed here last night, so up early enough to read and take some notes to comment.

yes Cheryl congrats on your "fun" walk looks like it was indeed fun and very pink, lol !!! Love the pic and thanks for sharing it with us.

Cirra - so glad you found your keys and hope you enjoyed your ride. Wishing you luck in syncing up with Kandice. Oh and BTW, thanks for clarifying the spelling on mosque - I knew it was wrong and thought spell check would help but oh no not this time !!!

Mo so glad you will be joining our W/L and will add you this week starting with the last weight you posted.

Cat so good to hear you can see now and can drive again as well. Sounds like you as well had a very nice weekend. I heard about the mosque event through on of our local "Indivisible" groups and so glad I did.

Time now for me to get my morning going, shower and morning devotions are done and I'm sure I hear Dusky ready to get up too.

Now all you marvelous women have a wonderful healthy day.

Good morning ladies...

Cheryl...very nice picture. You look great...keep up the good work. Pink is definitely your color!!

Cirra... Sounds like fun getting out on the bike and enjoying the sunshine.I think we are getting ready for about 5 days of rain again. That puts a damper on outside activities.

Cat...so happy you are recovering nicely from the eye surgery. The price of glasses is sticker shock for sure. I worked in the optical field for many years after college (right before i found my current job) and was actually a certified optician. Even back then the mark up was crazy. I now get my glasses through work and it is very reasonable.

DG...Mol...Gold....hello to ALL! Have a wonderful day!

Hello all,

It's always nice to hear about everyones busy weekend. Gold, happy that you checked in and hope you continue to improve quickly.

Im back to logging all my calories, I just have to get my matronly figure under control. I put on a spring coat from last year and couldnt get the top button buttoned this morning. Everything from my waist up feels like its ballooned. I never heard from Sam yesterday but Joe called me several times over the weekend. Took a long walk at the off leash dog park with Maureen and Juneau yesterday. Its by Lake Washington and the dogs didnt care about the temperature as they fetched balls out in the waves. It was so much fun to be around all that energy and its amazing how well they all get along, big and small. Juneau is the tiniest one out there and not afraid of much. Got my glasses on Friday and how happy am I!! I'm seeing so well and even have gained confidence with night driving. Ill post a pic when I get a good one. The play "The Producers" was a total hoot and so well done by the community theater.

DG, how did you happen to go to the mosque? Thats very cool and what it takes to bring people together. Way to go!

Hello PLOF.

It sounds as if everyone had pretty good weekends.

Mo - Great job on keeping it together and surprising yourself with your weigh in when you got home. Keep it up!

Love the picture, Cheryl. It is very...pink! LOL

Carol, it is fun to head to other parts of the city than your normal stomping grounds. It's an adventure and you never know what you may find! Happy you and Linda enjoyed the outing.

DG - Sounds like a busy weekend. Are you getting more comfortable with the Win10 and laptop?
I have an ex-BIL that is Muslim and I have been to Rabat, Morocco to visit with his family (and for the birth of his daughter a few years ago). He took me to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. Beautiful! I need to go and visit with them. His wife is having another child in June, a boy this time. I need to make it a point to see them next time I am in Dallas!

Cat - Glasses and driving...woohoo!

NS - Being able to do something you enjoy is satisfying not matter how much you make. A mini-gym for $1 sounds wonderful!

Gold - Hope this week finds you still on the road to recovery and making headway toward regaining your health after the bout with flu and pneumonia. You are in thoughts.

Weekend was pretty standard for these days. Eye exam Friday was pretty much what I thought, adjustment to the bifocals and change in left distance vision, minor in right. There was also a change in my astigmatism which was kind of unexpected. Suzuki is inspected and tagged and hair is cut. I played mountain goat and went over and through everything to get to the kitchen boxes that were in the very back of my sun room. I was wanting my keys to the Audi and my Harley so I can take advantage of the wonderful weather. Success! Found both sets (they were kept in a drawer in the kitchen and got dumped into a box when the contractors cleared it out to begin work!).

Trying to firm up some plans with Kandice for the weekend. It has been a while since we have seen one another so hoping we can sync the schedules. LOL

Have a wonderful day, ladies.

Good Monday my friends;

Isn't it hard to believe it's the middle of May already? Are you on track ? I've done pretty good so far this year but I am still not where I want to be by this time. I will gear up to do better and stay more mindful of being more active. It's my biggest challenge and always has been. One more outing tonight with my Japanese friend Fumiko to an asain buffet - oh my it's all she likes so I will do my best to just eat veggies and maybe shrimp for protein. Wish me luck PLEASE !!!

Carol good for you and Linda for getting out of your norm for just a bit and so glad you both enjoyed yourselves.

Ladies let's get this week off to a good start with healthy choices and smiles to spread around to others. Enjoy the day .

Good morning ladies...

Mol...by all means join us in the weight loss challenge. We encourage and support each no matter the challenge. Sounds like you are off to a great start.

DG...sounds like a great weekend with family and friends. Good for you sharing in different cultures and religions. It's a shame that people are labeled falsely for the actions of a few that don't even remotely share the same beliefs. Peace and tolerance will win.

It was a nice and relaxing weekend. Linda and I went on an excellent adventure yesterday and shopped a bit. After I got home from the gym we went to the east side of town to shop. We live 18 miles west so we rarely get out east. It was very nice!

Cheryl, Cat, Gold....hello Hello! Let's all have a great week!

Hi there friends;

Had a nice day with Dad and Brian and even a visit w/ oldest bro and SIL while there. We went to a local pub that was not crowded with mothers celebrating with family. Didn't eat the healthiest but only ate 1/2 of burger and fries, side salad was the healthiest. Cold cereal was breakfast of choice today so after that lunch, it may just be it for the day. If snack later is required it will be some fresh fruit.

Mo welcome back and CONGRATS on your W/L. Do you want to be added to the W/L chart we weigh twice month? Next Sunday is our weigh in day. Best of luck to you this coming week. Stay strong you can make it happen.

Enjoy the evening friends and be kind to yourselves.

Just a quick check in before I get started on tasks.
This was my first morning back home in 7 days, so I weighed in and I was pleased with my weight. I expected to be over 240, but I was not. I feel motivated to start this next stretch at home under 240---238.6 to be exact. The weather is great, my "to-do" list is long, and my attitude/ mindset is in a good place. Let the journey begin!

Good morning all and a beautiful Mother's Day to PLOF !!!

I was not able to get here yesterday at all as it was a very busy day from the time I got up, got home and went to bed. I have to share about the evening at the mosck (I don't know if I spell that correctly). It was WONDERFUL such a lovely evening with a theme of Love Thy Neighbor. Speakers of several other faiths presented their interpretation of this and it was very heart warming and the Islamic people were so hospitable, kind and open sharing people. I felt so welcomed and look forward to more interaction with the community. Very impressive. I encourage everyone to keep an open heart to all.

Cheryl congrats to you on your success girl, keep doing what's working for you. That cruise is getting closer !!!

Carol sounds like you are enjoying your weekend off.

I will be spending the day with Dad and Brian not sure what we will get into but I'm sure a meal will be part of it somewhere.

I wish every one of you wonderful women a day full of love.

TTFN

Hello all...

Checking in late today as the weather was beautiful and I had to get outdoors. Dylan mowed my lawn today but I weed eated for him to help a bit . I didn't mind ....it kept me moving!

I also cleaned the house and did the laundry. For supper I cooked a spaghetti squash with some home made sauce that my sister canned last year from home grown tomatoes. It was very good.

Not much else! This morning Murphy and I cuddled while I drank coffee and we watched shows that i had DVRd. It was a nice day!

Tomorrow...gym day!

Have a good evening!

Very happy with my weigh-in this morning (192.9). I'm down 11 pounds from biggest loser weigh in back in September.

Passed on cake at work yesterday and got to the gym. We're headed out 1st thing this morning to get our workout in.

So far it's a cloudy, wet morning.

Take care PLOF and enjoy your day!

Hello and good evening everyone !!! So good to see you all.

Glad the weekend is upon us and hope we all have good things to do. We have lots of rain starting tonight and thru out the day tomorrow. Sunday will be a better weather day to enjoy. I have a birthday party tomorrow early afternoon and an evening at the mosck (sp?) for dinner and a speaker. I'm looking forward to meeting the Islam community there. Sunday will be spending Mother's Day with my Dad and middle bro Brian.

NS - I think doing what you love is priceless so keep having fun. WOW a senior center w/ a gym to use for only $1, what a deal AND pinochle too !!! I used to play a lot as a teen, double deck but doubt I'd remember any now. My Dad used be on a team.

Cirra - sounds like you have a full weekend ahead and lots of work getting done. Good luck w/ it all.

Gold - just happy to see you and hope you are getting better each day.

Mo - on the road eating is def dangerous, just do your best to pick the healthiest choices. It can be done to some degree, you just have to be mindful. I think a little healthy is better than no healthy choices at all. I don't recall; what is it that Betsy does that requires all the travel? Do your "girls" travel with you?

Cheryl - I envy your progress and am so proud of you. the floor is always my enemy !!! Hope the 5K is lots of fun. I take it the Fun and Color runs are the same 5K? Enjoy the new Mexican restaurant.

Cat - I'm sure you are looking forward to getting back to driving and I hope we see a pic of you in your new glasses too. Keep up with your good eating routine.

Well I think I've touched base with everyone and am now up to date.

I will continue to work at getting to know Windows 10 each day.

Enjoy the evening and the start to a good healthy when possible weekend. TTFN

Hello inspiring womens!

Cirra - fingers crossed for your eye exam. I've also had teeth stuff lately. Good luck!
Gold - that sounds like a hard place to be! I'm thinking good thoughts and sending light in your direction. Do you have soothing tea for your mouth?
Mo - don't know that I've "met" you but hoping you have good luck and much fun on the road.
Deb - SO GLAD for a new laptop! Have fun!
Carol - I love love love a weekend with no plans. Hope it's delightful. Sun is shining here!
Cat - driving! Glasses! Hope you get some fun time out.

Flat out running for the community radio station these days. I'm making only a couple of hundred dollars a month, but loving it.

Today, I'm going to the nearby senior center to check it out. It's only a few blocks away, and they have a tiny gym with just a few machines, but it's only $1 for members to use it.

Also, they play pinochle, which I love.

Hugs and kisses and fairy wishes from your Fourth Corner Friend!

Hello PLOF.
Not much going on here. Off to get my eye exam in about 15 minutes.
I think the contractors may be starting on the painting today. That means it is winding up and that we should be finished in the next week or two! Hoping I can find the extra battery for the lawn mower (bought an electric cordless mower and weed eater) so I can get the yard done. If not, I guess I will get what I can done on the one battery.
Need to go get the car inspected so I can renew my tags. Haircut is in order so that about does it for me and the weekend. LOL

Hi PLOF;

Just a quick note. I enjoy reading all your posts and wish I could contribute more, but when you can't do much, there is not a lot to write.

Yes, Mo, consistency is the key. Road trips wreak havoc for me as well even though I start with the best intentions.

I'm drinking a new powder BCAA (branched-chain amino acids) for extra umph in my weight loss efforts. I try to get it in on an empty stomach or after my workout. It's suppose to help build muscle. I'm on week 2 and drink it with lots of lemon juice.

Carol, that's great - crazy weather - but nice that you were able to get some extra steps in on the treadmill.

I got to the gym last night for a pretty good workout. What I'm pleased about is that I'm better than ever at getting up and down to/from the floor to do some core exercises.

Fun run (walk) this Sunday. We're doing the color run - in the rain I think. Oh, well anything to get us out of the house. Did I mention we're having our main meal early in the day (right after our 5k walk) at a Mexican restaurant? There was an article over cinco de mayo about the best Mexican restaurants in town and, since we love Mexican food but always alternate between the two close to home, I thought it'd be nice to make an effort to get to one with a reputation for good food.
emoticon PLOF and have a great day and a wonderful weekend!

Inconsistency in my life really plays havoc with my "healthy" eating. Argh..........
We are on the road for Betsy's work, and I struggle to resist the hotel breakfast of belguim waffles with strawberries, and the ease of eating out for other meals. When on the road, I generally have one, two meals at the most, but it always seems to create a weight gain upon return. When we get back, I should have about 9 weeks of being home before we hit the road again.
Carol-------We had five girls, but now we have three. In the summer of 2013, when Scout and Trooper, our Norfolk Terriers, were getting older---after watching and learning about Coton de tuelars on Dogs 101, we picked up three of them---Winter, Sawyer, and Kismet. Scout and Trooper have since passed. Kismet was born on my birthday, and she is definitely my special one ---although I love them all! :)
Cirratx - I had sensitivity with a crown, and it turned into a root canal. :( I hope all works out well for you and your tooth.
Bal ---You best get to Macy's before they close! I hear that even more Macy's will be closing soon.
Gold -- best wishes for a continued successful recovery.
Hope you all have an awesome day to the end of the work week.
Take Care,
MO

Good morning and TGIF friends,

Seems like my evenings are busier than usual lately I think it might just be because I am on this laptop more trying to get the hang of it. Oh well this too shall pass .... soon I hope !!!

Our weather is very wet here too Carol all day yesterday, today and tomorrow. Clearing up enough to enjoy Sunday out and about. Nothing we can do about it that's for sure.

Glad you got a new person to do your lawn Carol, you have enough to do !!! I think it's only a matter of time before DT is impeached .... praying !!!

Ladies have a great Friday making good choices, I'm prepared. TTFN

Good morning all....

I'm glad it's Friday and am looking forward to the weekend. No real plans...Linda's nephew is starting his mowing duties Saturday. The kid we had last year never called back...kinda rude. I have no idea why not...he probably has a real job. Some young people (not all ) these days just dont have a clue how to react with respect and manners. Oh well...at least I don't have to mow!!

FB friends know I have sure fire way of getting in extra fitness minutes!! I went to the Y yesterday and after 75 minutes of cardio& weights went to leave. It looked like a hurricane outside...high wind, downpours, hail and flooding! I just looked outside and then went back upstairs and got on the treadmill. There was no point in even trying to leave. I got away 30 minutes later and still got drenched! I was then able to get home safely . Thank goodness the rain is gone for now!

I'm listening to the news...TRUMP UGH!!

Have a great day ladies!

Hi everyone.
Been a busy couple of days here at work. Dentist wants to replace one of the crowns she put on last year (free) as the tooth is periodically very sensitive. She is heading out on maternity leave so no biggie...it will be after she is back. Get my eyes checked tomorrow. I feel I have had a change in my bifocal prescription so we will see about that.

Trying to get some plans together with Kandice for next weekend and Memorial weekend. Have not seen her for a month or so. Her schedule has been very busy with activities with her kids and I have been just plain tired. LOL

Gold, I am glad we have heard from you. I was worried. The flu is a nasty bug. Sorry to hear you have pneumonia now but happy to hear you are "on the right side of the grass" and getting better!

DG, you will eventually get the hang of Win10. It is certainly not my favorite.

Mo, be safe on your field trip and enjoy yourself.

Everyone else, have a great evening.

DG, I remember struggling through the difference as well, it will come! Sometimes watching YouTube videos helps. Carol, nice job on your weight loss and sticking to your weekend schedule - after all your years of service you deserve it for sure.

I just got a call that my glasses are in a week early Ill pick them up when I have my follow up appointment tomorrow morning. I am so excited to be able to drive again watch out thrift store and Macys, Im coming for some springtime clothing. Tomorrow night were going to a nearby community theater production of The Producers, should be good for some laughs. I love getting discount tickets through Goldstar.

Waiting on Maureen to file her 2016 business taxes so we can move ahead with they loan qualification process. Im really not sure what we will be able to afford and houses on Camano are being swept up in no time. The word is out that its a great value and beautiful place. Im not going to stress over it though as I want to spend my summer enjoying the beautiful place I have now. I will surely miss the community Ive found there and my committee activities.

Today I had a banana and coffee for breakfast (was running late), an Amys veggie burrito and salsa for lunch. Tonight will be a nutribullet havent done that in a while, some brown rice, and fruit for dessert. I cleaned and organized my fridge last night moving shelves so I can see everything better so as not to lose things in the back past their viable date.

Have a healthy day and weekend too! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
