Good! You gals are playing it safe. Us, too. Norma, the whisker boyz and I are going to drink a glass of wine and watch a movie. I will have to make certain to give the kitties a calming pill or two. They hate the loud noises and so do I.

See you next year! emoticon

Ha Linda, my mother always told me to marry an orphan or the boy next door and since he was clearly never an option..... First husband's mother lived in Fl and she thought I was a Barbie doll and now FIL is in Fl and has no idea what to think of me but that's OK. I usually say no to New Year's. Went to a fab party once in JA when I was 20 with my cousin who got me a date with a kid my baby brother's age named Elvis. New Year's Eve 2001 went to bar with Buster the biker. I'll try and post picture and aforementioned baby brother.
Movies and sparkling cider for us tonight.
Used to love wild parties, just not on New Year's. As Buster used to say, New Year's Eve is for amateurs LOL

Sounds like a nice place, Suze. Hope relations with FIL improve. In-laws are a problem in my world.

Good for you, Diane!

No wild parties here. I have not been to many wild parties in all my life for New Years Eve. One memorable one was with ex where we stayed at the Hilton and partied with some friends. They used to have specials for spending the night, drinks and midnight breakfast complete with black eyed peas. Then another was long ago with an old boyfriend in a country town in a bar with the locals. There were animal heads on the wall of this bar and all ages of folks were there.

Dh and I never party for New Years. It is safer to stay home... plus, I no longer drink and don't like being around drunk people. We are going with friends today to the movie Unbroken and then to eat. Life in the fast lane!

Wild parties, ha! I can't stand New Year's eve. We are going to struggle to stay awake I have always felt since I was a kid you know what you had, you don't know what you are getting. We are doing hors d'oeuvres and sparking cider.
Had lunch today with FIL and it went off better than we expected. We went to Milleridge Inn which is historic old restaurant complex by us. It is always beautifully decorated. He had us on what he called time constraints and wanted a diner! We never see him in fact I have never spent more than 5 minutes with him. Food was insipid, sometimes it is really good. I didn't cheat, didn't even use oil and vinegar on salad. Be safe everyone

emoticon Had a emoticon day today! Went back to the gym where I did the treadmill for 30 minutes, then the weight machines and SWIMMING! Though it's an indoor pool at our gym it was still cold to be swimming. The floor was cold, the water not too warm. But, did it anyway. We, too, are having a cold front. Raining as I type this. Felt good to get back on the treadmill. And voila! My foot didn't bother me! I am being careful however by not overdoing it. Thought I'd pass this info on..two doctors have told me that walking is the BEST exercise for overall weight loss. I had always thought it was swimming but I was wrong.
Please everyone be safe over New Year's Eve..no wild parties. Hahaha. May we meet our goals in 2015! (Mine is to lose another 20 lbs.).

That is great, Diana!

I went to the grocery store... lots of people. We have a cold front coming. People here don't know how to act. I am making veggie chili tomorrow.

I think we are all back to basics!

Sheryl, I will check it out for my kitties.

Suze, take the senior discount. I am 5 years older than my dh and he gets the senior discount at the movie because of me.

Thanks, Linda. Was my needed "wake up call" as Dr Phil would say. Not going to let it get the best of me. I have worked too hard. Today and yesterday were good days; no sugar, no fruit. I eat green along with protein meats, fish and chicken. Low carb works best for me. The gain was my fault..SEE'S candy, fruitcake and pumpkin pie lured me into a gluttonous road. Haha.
Back to basics now... emoticon

I haven't gained. Yeah!! We went to movies and saw Wild. I LOVED the book. Kids gave us movie tickets for Christmas 2012 not a typo and we used them. They gave us the senior rate at the cinema! No one ever thinks I am my age and DH is my "boytoy" and younger than me. DH says guess we looked ancient to the teen ticket seller. We both liked the movie and have decided especially since we are seniors? that we will try once a month. Came home to problem with health insurance, apparently Blue Cross automatically renewed me even though I cancelled 11/21 well in advance of the 12/15 deadline.
Went to bed bath and beyond this morning as gave DH a gag gift for Christmas - a target bear but when opened the shooter balls weren't in box. Kids laughed when they came over as their mom DH's ex had taken balls out of a box at a store, different store though. So we got the foam balls and I bought a Wilton Elf Cookie pan for next year's Elf day.

Sheryl and Suze, lucky kitties!

Diane, sorry about the gain.

Thankfully I have not gained. I am keeping with the flexitarian eating plan. (Meat only 2 days a week and only chicken or fish, the kind with gills and fins)

Dh will be home this week, we and friends are going to see Unbroken on Wednesday during the day.

Kitties must have loved the tree. Usual Sunday shopping for us and " I have dinner with my Dad" day. Low key - roast and potatoes. Yesterday I tackled my dresser and jewelry, today receipts for taxes plus. Fairly up to date but want to get it done and ready. Work on my special project a bit and play with my beads? Have a great day

Glad you are back. I am due to have lunch with FIL on Tuesday. Successfully avoided the rest! We got kitties new cat beds and they are loving them. Kids were over on Christmas day and it was pleasant. And I still have a week off!
Weight is holding though I am not getting in the walking I thought I would.

Sounds great, Diane!

My foot is better, but not 100%. I walked on treadmill for 15 minutes. No weight gain with prednisone. Today I took the last pill, thankfully.

Better today. Had trouble sleeping. Just today and tomorrow to go on the prednisone.

Finishing gifts, etc today. Then we will go to in laws Christmas Day. Preparing myself mentally.

Going to a candlelight service Wednesday night, that will be the highlight of our week because we will be with friends who we love. We are going out for coffee and dessert after the service.

Linda, don't get discouraged..you will walk again, that's for sure. Just takes time. Thursday I was having a bout with my sore foot but it comes and goes now. Used to be non stop 24/7 pain. Today it hurt a little when I started my walk but as I got into walking it went away! Just seems to take me longer now that I am older for things to heal.

Food is always a nice gift and well appreciated; or coffee if they drink it.

I cannot wait until I can walk again, for longer than 15 minutes. I am certain the weight will come off! I gained 2 lb. but lost it again. So far, no weight gain with the prednisone, thankfully. I really don't like it, though!

Today will be an at home day. Monday I will finish Christmas shopping, not much left, just dh's parents. What do you get for people in their 80s who neither want or need anything (except health!)?

I got another good white elephant gift, those led candles, a set of three. I like it! So that is two. the other was a travel toiletries bag set. Score this year. I usually get rooked. Poor dh got rooked yesterday, he got a bag of stuffed animals, one of them plays "wild thing" and wiggles its ears.

Happy Friday!
Foot pain almost gone again. Tomorrow I will do some sort of exercise. Didn't do anything today. Norma and I bought and ate some SEE'S candy. Aargh! So not good for my diet. Well, tomorrow I hope to hit the gym. The stores and mall is too crazy right now. Don't want to step near it until the holiday is over. I really despise rude crowds. Anyhow, have a good weekend everyone. Be careful with the SEE'S..it's so yummy.

I did not try turmeric, Suze. I did try natural remedies, but to no avail. The first day of steroid use knocked out the pain. I don't know what it will do to my body, however.

Diane, that is nice to be able to get along so well. Someday maybe you will be married again... it can happen. I tell the single women at my church to never say never!

We have to get something for dh parents! What to get for someone in their 80s who doesn't need or want anything?

Well, Norma and I are also related in the faith which is why I refer to her mainly as my sister. We get along great since we have same belief system. No wild parties, no smoking no sin of any kind..haha. Really, we DO get along nicely. She is more easy to live with than me I will admit. I can be stubborn and insist on my own way but she understands me after all these years. Now we are "old and settled" and content might I add with our two cats. I hope to fall in love again one day, having been married twice, but not pushing it. I'm happy the way I am..

Foot pain is back today. I was doing so well with the walking again. Hurt terribly to walk..hate this getting old thing. Perhaps when I lose more weight things will be easier for me.

Anyhow, hope everyone having a good evening....

Yup, I married this one and we celebrated our 10th anniversary this year. And except for his stints "away" aka jail or rehab and my volunteer work we are never away from each other. Amazes me sometimes.

Went to rheumatologist and now am taking steroids... for a few days only. He said it was that or stick a needle in my painful toe. I have never taken steroids, so wish me luck! Foot still hurts and I had gained 2 pounds... now probably a couple more!

Tomorrow I am a judge on the lights in our neighborhood. The winners get a gift card to Home Depot.

Suze, and now you are married to him?

I am so happy I was able to walk 10 minutes on the treadmill today.

I did fairly well years ago with one roommate in South Texas, until her brother moved in, too. Long ago and far away... I am friends now with both of them on Facebook. Lost touch for a while.

Have a great day everyone!

Diane, it is nice that you have a roommate to get along with. I had several when I was much younger, but it was touchy at times.

Lazy day. We are supposed to get rain again this week so did all the chores over the weekend. With two adult women living here, and two cats, our apt doesn't get that dirty. We both keep it up and split the cooking. It's like having a slumber party all the time!

Sounds nice, Sheryl.

I was watching Dr. Furman on PBS and will incorporate his eating plan after Christmas. His book is too expensive, $60, but I got the main points on his program.

I go to the doctor early Thursday. Hopefully I can start to exercise soon. I really dislike the chair exercises, but I guess I will have to succumb soon. Foot is feeling better but I still can only wear one pair of shoes.

Hi all, Busy day yesterday, we celebrated the Feast of Santa Lucia, the saint our county was named for when the Spanish landed along our coast. We had a meal made from the ingredients that would have been on board the ship and those that would have been found growing here.
No photos yet, but I should be getting the winning recipe and the winners pic very soon.

We are getting rain today.

I had breakfast for lunch, so we are having a large green salad for dinner today.

Had too long a Sunday nap. They sure are nice though... emoticon

emoticon Hope everyone is doing well..and at least less pain if not pain free. I really think the cold weather affects pain in the body too. I feel better in the summer it seems. Well, don't want summer back..not for awhile. We had another bout of rain and next week supposed to get more. GOOD! We really need it to manage this drought situation. Even the birds are happy. I saw them bathing in the rain! So cute.

The other day we walked the Thompson Creek Trail again and saw a doe and a buck! And, a jack rabbit! Just love walking there and being in nature. Was supposed to do the trail again today but I was just too lazy to get going this morning. However, I did walk around town for 40-minutes and had some hills.

Sounds great Suze!

We got a Chromecast so we can view youtube and other videos on our TV. Pretty cool.

Not a lot of pain yesterday or this morning! emoticon

Went to a party last night and ate too much. I will not weigh for a couple of days. However, I did avoid the sweets and ate berries instead. Someone brought a huge bowl of all kinds of berries. Delicious! DH had a bad situation at work and could not get off to come to the party, so I had to go without him.

I got a great "white elephant" for a change. A new toiletries travel kit. I needed it because all my toiletries bags are coming apart. The end of April we plan to go to Las Vegas and Utah, so I needed it.

Lunch with agent was lovely, green salad, grilled scallops, black rice. Yum. Made holiday centerpiece at library tonight. The library will convert vhs to DVDs so while I was downstairs non techy DH was upstairs with DVD. Didn't work so we'll go back. It's a video of his gran's 100th birthday. It will go along with the history book we are going to give the little elves

Still no relief of pain in foot. Taking Tylenol. Cramping my style!!!!

I am having a business meeting tonight and going to a party tomorrow night. I have to make goodies for the party. I am making pimento cheese sandwiches (homemade) and a salad. With all the ladies who cook sweets, it may be all I get to eat!

I have started a business selling ASEA. You will probably hear of it eventually. Awesome breakthrough heavily patented product.

Hope everyone is feeling better. It's snowing. Working like crazy. Tomorrow having lunch with my agent. My only holiday event. We go to the same place so I already know I am having a green salad, grilled scallops with black rice, still water. I bought some stuff from J. Peterman on big sale - the at the corner of Greenwich and Europe and the red coat with the leopard print lining. Hopefully the weather will cooperate

I will try that, Diane! I had not thought of it.

Today I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and got some remedies, chewable cherry tablets, something homeopathic that you spray in your mouth and oil of juniper that you use in a compress. I have yet to figure that out, due to the fact I have been on the go all day!

Have a great day everyone!

Linda, I know you must be discouraged..but please..this too shall pass (the pain that is). I never thought my foot would feel good enough to let me do my walking again. After several months it IS doing better. Not 100 % but nontheless, better each day. I trust the gout pain you are having will be better too soon. Did you check it out in the sparkpeople articles on health A-Z? I did that with the plantar fasciitis so that I could see what to do for it. Then I paid the doctor a $20 co-pay to tell me exactly what condition I had (which I learned from spark) AND what to do for it which I also learned from spark. Oh well..LOL.

Feel better soon emoticon

Yep! Diane, I never thought this would happen!

I heard from the doc today and I have high uric acid. I have had this gout since Nov 13. He referred me to a rheumatologist which is set up next week. I read online it is unusual to have gout this long.

Linda..we need new feet! emoticon

Actually, my foot problem is starting to feel alot better. I was able to do a 4-mile walk which I will blog about. Today I did a 45-min walk. Oh, I still have some foot pain but not like before. On a scale of one to ten I would say it's about a three.

Linda, can you take anti inflammatories? The doctor told me to take ALEVE for my foot pain or whatever else works. I was taking it every day too. I think foot pain takes awhile to heel if you pardon the pun.

Our town just has one Christmas parade. It is fun. We are usually in it, but not this year. My dh was too overwhelmed with all he has to do to add a parade into the mix.
We have youth groups, scouts, businesses with floats, fire trucks, etc. It is a lighted parade and everyone throws out candy to the kids. Blue Santa starts the parade and "real" Santa Clause ends it.

Foot still hurts. Hopefully there will be an end in sight.

emoticon did a 4-mile walk today at the trail I love to do! Finally my foot feeling better. It's 2 miles up and 2 miles back. A nice woodsy area to walk and we saw deer today! On the way back after doing 2 miles my foot hurt a little bit. It really helped to walk on the dirt area rather than the concrete.

Way to go, Sheryl!

Suze, I like Red Lobster and that grave thing sounds interesting. I have not heard of it, but I like the feel of it.

Still decorating... not really in the mood. Would love to have all new stuff for Christmas décor, but not possible at this time. We did get a couple of new things last year, so I put them out first! I forgot I purchased a huge lighted wreath last year after Christmas. I made a big bow for it yesterday, looks good! We are not going all out in the decorations this year. Year before last Dh won for best traditional light display in our neighborhood... this year we have only the lighted wreath.

Foot feels better today.

Yeah, it's Friday. I slept a whole hour later. Jammed with work which is good. Linda, since I am changing the way I eat, the smoothies work. I have been doing one a day. They are delicious, filling and curb my sweet tooth - it ain't gone yet but it's disappearing.
Luckily or probably not, I have no social life over the holidays so eating not too much of an issue, wish it were. I blogged about my lack of holiday parties and how my life revolves around tweens, teens and 20 somethings. This week we pick up the tree and our tradition is since Red Lobster is next to tree place, we get take out and come home. Easy to make good choices there. Hope to go out East unless it is raining, Diane :) and buy my chocolates for holiday gifts (oh OK I will slip there a little bit) and "visit" DH"s mom at the cemetery and in this area of the world we put on grave blanket - firs and decorations.

Yes, he said it could be another type of crystal formation besides uric acid crystals.... a different type of arthritis.

Diane, I feel like I am falling apart too, but trying to hold it together. I am putting up Thanksgiving décor today and doing some Christmas decorating, hopefully.

I've got to get "off my duff" and do some exercise. I tell you my cat and I are falling apart! Me, with plantar faciitis and my poor kitty Ebony with his auto-immune that I am trying to get under control. *Sigh*

Dr. took blood, urine and I had an xray of toe. He said might not be gout but a form of arthritis. We will see. Still have not heard results of stress test last week, must be good news there! Otherwise, feeling better! emoticon

agh! I woke up this morning with gout pain... again. Good thing I am going to the doctor today. My cold is better! Not as much coughing. Maybe I have not been drinking enough water. Monday I didn't drink my quota because I slept almost all day and all night.

Thank you, Sheryl and Diane! I don't think I have the flu, just a cold. I have a nasty cough and am staying home. Dh brought me some soup home for lunch, sweet guy.

I have not had a flu shot

Diane, I have never heard of that. My last kitty died of colitis. We gave him meds, he was abut 17 when he had to be put to sleep. I held him while they administered the dosage. It is rough, but I would recommend doing that if you have to go through that. Of course, we want him to stick around a while!

Has everyone welcomed our new members on those threads?

Feel better soon, Linda. Did you get your flu shot??

FINALLY, drought stricken SoCal is getting much needed rain. Tomorrow we are supposed to get at least 2 inches. Unfortunately with the rain comes mudslides due to the many fires we have had that devasted the land. Hopefully California will somehow recover from such abuse.

My cat Ebony is recovering from a bout of pemphigus which has re-asserted itself. He's been to the doctor and not happy having to wear a collar to keep him from licking his wounds (see my latest blog). Poor kitty. He's an expensive lil' guy but I just can't imagine life without him. He's 13 yrs old and getting up there I know. I've done my best to give him a good life along with my other cat Timon.

Have a beautiful day everyone!!

Anything worthwhile takes effort..never give up.
