I use an easy walk harness that hooks in the front and now Orion doesn't pull at all.

If Gypsy does it again, I will take a picture! The Labra-Dane fighting to get under the mini-spruce. It is a guaranteed laugh.

As far as harnesses go, on a trained (or small) dog I do use a rear clip harness. Tazzy's now infamous Skjoring harness has a back clip. To control pulling, a front clip redirect and controls the chest. This make is extremely difficult to pull. A lot of the time, the dog will go to pull and end up spinning around to face you. They tend to get the idea that pulling doesn't work in a hurry.

Come on Kitty !!! Would you pee in the wind? Smart girls you have,. emoticon

I use a harness on my dogs also. Their lead hooks on the back. Like Peajay, mine don't get walked often, so when they do they just want to go, go, go !! When we are on the walking trail we use their expandable lead so they can go 4-5 feet in front of us, but when someone else comes along, walking or a bicycle, we bring them in close to us, because we don't know their reaction if a stranger approaches - especially children.
They are better on their short lead because I can keep them close, and have almost picked them up off the ground when a child runs up to them.

If you haven't failed, you haven't lived !

Laugh, and the world laughs with you !!

BIGPAWSUP: *ROFLOL* Your girls didn’t want their pee to blow back on them. Pretty smart ladies you have there. *LOL*

KEEPITUP05: I’m more of a “back-yard trainer”, you know like a backyard doctor or mechanic? *LOL* I use a harness and love it. Because they are small dogs, people tend to approach without permission, especially children. My initial reaction is to pull the lead, thus pulling them towards me. So when using a collar, I thought it not a good thing on a dog’s neck. Repeatedly I found myself doing this… *shaking my head sadly* For the well being of my dogs, I chose a harness.

However, when my babies pull on their lead, I stop walking and make them sit beside me for a spell. Then we resume walking. If it’s done again, I stop again. Because I rarely lead walk them, I encounter this problem every time I DO lead walk (like when we go to the store). I know they would do better if I was more consistent.

Can you clip the lead to the front of the harness - like on her chest? That can help.

Some dogs will adapt to the Halti if they were it around the house for a time before walking. Treat and praise heavily.

Personally, I prefer the Easy Walk Harness for bad pullers to train loose leash walking. Same premise but in a harness. Takes less getting used to for the dog.

I have a 3 yr old gr that still drags me down the street. I finally found using a halti that goes around her face helps but she hates it. She rolls on the ground and gets between my legs trying to get it off. Lol as you can imagine we don't get far this way. Any thoughts?

My girls are nuts! They went outside this am (wind chill -10) and tried to get UNDER the miniature spruce in the yard to pee. This tree is only 4 feet tall and maybe 3 inches off the ground but both girls are trying to get under it. Why? Guess no one wanted to pee in the wind!

Spent a morning shoveling snow. Good exercise, but I don't want anymore.
However, it is snowing again, and suppose to change to freezing rain. Yuk !!
Made my gym workout, so was happy.

Nothing planned for the week. We don't have hobbies. Kind of a laid back lifestyle during the winter months. Being retired, I do or not do anything I want. emoticon

Hope everyone has a good week.

Snow is blowing vertically and sounds like a hurricane at times too. School closed due to icy roads, so DD is home. Hubby and DD’s BF went to work.

Yes, my weekend was great; finally figured out how to crochet a basket stitch and daisy flower motif. DD’s BF brought home a remote control helicopter which my dog Finn chased and Echo barked at. Wonder if they make those kinds of toys for pets??? I can see it was great exercise for Finn; he gains weight over the winter due to lower activity, but looses it come spring.

My week will be spent doing computer again; the guy wants an Access database. Working my crochet blocks and planning the gardens. Maybe some genealogy work too.

What is everyone’s plans for the week?

The snow has finally stopped, for how long I haven’t a guess. Lounged with the puppies while crocheting and watching The Mentalist on DVD with hubby, all weekend. I life of leisure for sure!

Glad to read everyone is resting up, relaxing and enjoying a life of lesiure too.

yesterday was work, but today is just a relaxing day. In Saint Louis we got a lot of rain, so we are playing ball in the house, and just relaxing (watching Ray Lewis and Raven highlights for now), who will probably watch movies and decompress before the start of the work week.

All schools cancelled around here, and I thought I wouldn't make it to the gym because of the snow predictions !! Well, it didn't even start snowing until after Noon time, then very lightly. I think the schools "jumped the gun" this time. I did make it to the gym too :)
It is amost dinnertime, it is now snowing, so guess the storm is on its way. Guess we'll see what it brings.

Good Morn, fellow Canine Parents!

Seems overnight more snow fell, bending my pine tree branches which lie precariously against a power line. No school today but hubby still went into work, after snow blowing the driveway.

Another day spent on crafting and puttering around. Of course housework needs doing so my weekend is free for frolic and fun - or lounging and loving - with the puppies.

What’s everyone else’s weekend plans?

Kitty did you miss the ice storm? Hope so…

So far just work today, but I have a busy evening planned. Hoping to get home before the ice storm (predicted) hits.

Enjoyed the sun yesterday, but today another snow storm is rolling in. We restocked the pantry yesterday and set 5 gallon buckets of water in the tubs – just in case of power outage.

Finished my computer project – Ya!!! Can now devote my day to crocheting and garden planning.

How is everyone else’s day going?

I know that "closing in" feeling! I'm just hoping it is nice enough tonight to get out for a good long walk with the girls!

How is everyone this fine February morning? Any special plans for the week? For the coming weekend?

My week plans are simple: computer work, crafty stuff, and staying warm. This weekend I hope to get out to some stores for some much needed social interaction. The walls are starting to close in…
