I just participated in my kids' high school fundraiser run/walk. The JROTC was the only one in the state invited to Normandy France next summer for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. They are raising money to send 25 JROTC members to participate in the parade and memorial.

They had a 1, 2, 3 and 4.2 walk/run. My mom walked the 4.2 and both my daughters and I ran the 4.2. I finished in 37 minutes and beat both my girls. I was fourth overall for women.

There is a 10K that I'm looking at for the end of the month, but we'll have to see how my knee is doing.

Green Bay Marathon. I don't think there's anything local until July (I believe it's a trail run in/near Munising), and then there's the Marquette Marathon in September.

I haven't been running outside for weeks, because it's been too cold. Last year, I wore long johns, sweats, a couple long-sleeved tees, fleece jacket, hat and mittens. I actually ended up getting too warm and I took my mittens and jacket off. I think the lakeshore keeps it a little warmer this time of year.

Daniellemattson--I'm still toying with the idea. I've almost got myself convinced. I did 8 miles on Saturday and it was NOT warm. So I'm toughening up. Just curious...what marathon are you training for? Didn't think there was anything local in May, but I'm not too up on races...

I did the Charity Chiller last year and it was a beautiful run, despite the 15 degree temp! A few of my friends and I are training for a 1/2 Marathon in May, so we've been toying with the idea of running the Charity Chiller 10K this year. If we're not quite up to that far yet, we'll do the 5K instead. It's a really nice race and not many participants, so it's pretty easy-going and friendly.

Oooo...Canal Run. Totally forgot about Canal Run. That would be great. I actually ran that road several times this summer. (It's where the in laws live.) And it's gorgeous. I'd love to do it for Canal Run.

That would be awesome!! I know they make things that you can wear over your mouth to help with exercise outside, but that has always been my biggest...fear? with outdoors in winter - my lungs just might explode. Eh. Anyway, DO IT! It'll be fun! Then you can come up here in July and do the Canal Run!!!

This thread has been dormant for a while but...
The Charity Chiller is coming up in Marquette on February 18. It is a 5k/10k. I've been toying with the idea of running it, but (a) I've never run an actual race before (I routinely run 4-6 miles several times a week but never in a racing context) and (b) I'm worried the temps will be bitterly cold and I don't think I would fare well in those conditions.

Ah well. I have about a week or so to decide. Any one else braving this one?

Okay I "ran" the Muggy Buggy 5K and Muggy Buggy X yesterday in Minocqua, WI. It's the "X" (for EXtreme) you'll be interested in. This was also at a ski park. You might want to practice running hills, because the whole thing started by going up a very steep, tall hill then down then back up again then down again. This hill was difficult for me to walk up, so there was no running involved for many people. There was also crawling through mud, "running" through a bog with mud to your knees, running a single track through the woods, including logs, mud, creeks, more mud. Finally, we had to run through a pond (muddy on the bottom, spectators watching) and uphill again to the finish. It was an interesting race. I'm having second thoughts about the Mud Plunge. We still don't have a fourth for our team.

I haven't been at the course yet, but I've been meaning to take a ride out there. Have you seen any of the commercials? It looks REALLY muddy!!

I haven't done any races like this before - I've dabbled in the 5K road races, so I don't feel too worried about the length - it's the obstacles that make me nervous. I don't know if there's a good way to train for something like this. I've just been working on my core and upper body strength to help get over that 10 foot wall!!

I did get 2 other people and am waiting for an answer from a third. But let me know if you need someone anyway. This team may not work out-we're not actually registered yet. But I am glad to know someone else who is going and I'll look for you there. Have you ever done a race like this before? How muddy is it, anyway?
BTW, I think I'm going to run the Muggy Buggy 5K X July 2nd. If I do I hope to get an idea of what these adventure races are like.

Hi Yoopers. I just read about the Suicide Mud Plunge 5K Adventure on August 27th in Negaunee, MI. I was going to register as an individual, but thought it might be fun to get a team together. Only individuals and teams of four (must finished together) are allowed. Anyone up for this? I am still a beginning runner, but a long-term goal is to try adventure racing. I just completed my first 5K recently. I live in the Iron Mountain area. Here's the website: www.facebook.com/suicidemudplunge

I guess im just proud to be able to run at all...im not really in it to win it...I just like doing something I love to do and helping out a good cause in the meantime!

This sounds like a great cause to support. I have never heard of the disease, but it sounds really scary. Do you know this family? I would love to know if I could help some way. I am going to plan on running this race.

This is the site for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters run in Negaunee. http://www.bbbs.org/site/c.leJNIVOvElH/b.5
936129/k.D02F/Fun_Run.htm

I almost convinced my fiance to run that, but I told him it was a 5K. I know he won't go for a 10K, but maybe he'd do the 2-mile.

Where did you find the info on the May run in Negaunee? I'd probably do that one, too, unless the Superiorland Kiwanis' race is that day.

May 21st there is a 5k in Negaunee on the heritage trail! Also this day is the Big Bay relay!! The big bay relay is to benefit bay cliff... you compile a team of 5 runners and relay race a mile at a time from marquett to big bay! Its about a 26 mile run!
have not figured out how to add links on my phone to give you webpages but im sure u can google or bing these events!!! I desperately need a real computer to do all this stuff on!!
Good luck to everyone and hope to see you somewhere along the way!!!

The 10K snowshoe race is what I was originally planning on doing, but I've only had the chance to snowshoe twice this winter, so I ran a 5K on Saturday instead.

The YMCA's Run/Walk is posted now. The website is https://ymcamqt.proeventreg.com/runwalk. I think I remember someone asking about it before.

Hi everyone! I was inspired by another Yooper team member to post this out here...if you know of an event (5K, 10K, triathlon, etc.) near you, please post the information here! That way we all know about the event, but also if some of us are traveling to the event, some of us could meet up! That would be fun! It would also be nice to know about events taking place across the U.P.! This is the place to post them, if you know about them!!!
