Anne, totally get that "worried" feeling when you don't hear for a while (longer than usual). My son warned me when he came back from his last deployment that he would not be communicating as much on this one. And, I admit it, it has driven me slightly NUTS!

There are many reasons why they lock down communications at times, and there is always this element: our kids in uniform are very busy (as my son reminded me in a recent e-mail, the first I'd got from HIM in a week). I figure the best thing I can do for them is take good care of me so he has one last thing to worry about (mom's health).

emoticon emoticon Hang in there! We will get through this!

I see Anne has found her way up here, welcome aboard!

Gee Sunny, asparagus fresh from the garden and on a pizza, yummy. hmmm, yesterday sitting in the waiting room Better Homes Gardens had quite a few really interesting recipes for asparagus. Going to look to see if I can pull someof them. Can you believe a doctor's office with magazines that were less than 5 months old!

Hope all are having better days, and that you have a lighthearted and sunshine filled week-end - hugs!

I had a day at home - woohoo and loved it! DH and I worked out in the yard. Well, he worked and I played. emoticon I did a little weeding and picked the asparagus. We fixed a veggie pizza for supper and added some of the asparagus and it was so, so good.

Tomorrow, I will go see Dad and help sis finish moving. I think all she has left is her clothes.

All in all, it was nice to have a day at home.

Love you all. Do have a Fab Friday and a terrific weekend.

Feeling better today -- just had an emotionally rough day yesterday missing my son. New day, better day.

ALOHA: Yes, I agree . . .yeah Sharon!!

Thanks for letting me know I'm not bonkers. It was just kinda out of the blue that I just felt this sadness. Better now, thank goodness!

I think you're right that no matter how old our kids get to be we still worry about them. It never ends. What can I say.

Look away for a moment and all kinds of chatter appears, luv it! Won;t even try to catch up.

Sharon, another tissue alert moment. I just love his work. We are so happy you have such a great arsenol of stuff to share!!! Am I right Moms?

CBarb you'll find as they grow, we all have those dog days and don't know why. You just have to trust that everything is okay. Our son was well into his 20's (married with a son) when he went into the Reserves so I missed all the anx of boot camp doesn't mean didn't worry as he trained to hit the sandbox the first time years later. That was the reality that he no longer was playing sailor.

Sunny how cool is that, Hawaii 5-O you'll have to let us know.

I see allergies are everywhere it's not just me; it is cold dreary damp one day the next it's steamy as the day goes on. It's going to be an early night for me so hugs to all you awesome Moms and may everyone remain safe!

Here's something dedicated to each of us, and our team:

Mom Be Bold

I may clutch a picture of my child
Go in that room of memories wild

Thoughts come with me wherever I go
Prayers often lead my way, you know

My young one has left to be so brave
The hero of my heart, gone to save

At times I want to reach out and hold
But I know the answer; Mom be bold

The love of my child is part of me
So strong and good, it will always be

Nurtured in life with a caring heart
This child to me is a work of art

Dear God you know how my love is true
I’ve prayed for my soldier, more I’ll do

And to mothers who live their life as I
We’ll grow in support, our flag raised high

Together we’ll get through each new day
Becoming great friends, God Bless our way

Good morning everyone! Kind of a gray, damp, cool, rainy/drizzly morning. That doesn't do much to uplift moods does it! Oh well, that's why I'm sparking. That makes me smile!

Hope you're all having a good Wednesday.

Our Soldier loved his Units until he got to his current station and it's been a little bit of a struggle for him and he is Mr. Personality. He was promoted just before he got to this assignment so it was a whole new role for him. He is slowly but surely adjusting and I hope your solder does too, Millergirl.

Speaking of soldiers, Joshua called today and Hawaii 5-0 was being filmed at the Army Hospital where he is stationed. He said he would send some pics but haven't seen them yet.

1Crazy Dog, so glad your soldier is "fitting in". That makes it so much easier for them.

I am off to finish supper. Love all of you Military Mama's!

Good morning one and all. Got another letter from DS yesterday. Doing well with the marksmanship. PHEW. so glad of that. He seems to be fitting in with his other mates in his new unit. PHEW big time on that one, too. Time marches on, doesn't it!

SHARON: Yes, home is where your heart is.

DS is definitely seeming to thrive and does like what he's doing. Good for him.

MILLERGIRL719: Welcome! Sorry to hear your son doesn't like the group he's with. That makes things a lot more difficult. **SIGH** I surely understand the ". . . he just needs to grow up" philosophy. Same applies to my son. Seemingly he IS growing up more then he would have here @ home. Lots of reasons for that, but primarily the group of friends he hung out with. But, hang in there. It DOES happen . . . eventually.

Have fun with your play! Theater is so much fun! And enjoy your running.

Good for you with your running ambitions, MillerGirl! I'm not a big time message board poster, but I blog a lot to keep myself going. I'm 12 days out now from my second half marathon outing... walked the first one almost entirely, and I'm thinking the same about this one. Speed walking is great cardio and easier on the knees than jogging.

No, not too harsh to thinking about children's need to grow up. Sometimes that *is* what it takes and sometimes we'd like to keep them as little kids, but they're not. Absent specifics, I'll accept your mom's intuition on the matter! Nobody knows your kid like you. Of course we never know how much they aren't telling us, these sons we raised.

Thinking of you all, your families and your service members.

Hi all. I'm new around here although I know a couple from another team. I can't personally relate to what you are going through with your parents but I am thinking of all of you. My FIL is starting to have some struggles.

I have a son in the Air Force in New Mexico. He's not really liking the group he's with. He's struggling. I think some of it is homesickness and his girlfriend is here. I think also he just needs to grow-up a little more. Do you know what I mean? Does that sound too harsh? Maybe you'd have to hear more of the situation.

I'm not a big-time poster but I try. I'm getting ready to be in a play and that sucks up my evening hours, but I love it. I also like to run....contemplating a 10K in September. I'm a new runner so this is a lofty goal. I'll see how far I can go.

Have a great day!!!!!!!

CBarb, I think they miss being out of their familiar environment and surroundings. We all get to that point when we travel. . . DS sounds like he's really "into" whatever he is having to do!

Kelly, I'll tell ya, that was the ONE good thing about the military and moving so often. It forced you to hoe out every couple of years! It's amazing how much "stuff" we think we need and accumulate! So glad you liked the proverb.

Sunny, it's hard going through all of the stuff our parents accumulated, and to make sure that we have the important stuff and that it's safe. I still have some of my parents' paperwork here.
I would see nothing wrong with being a snowbird. My grandma did it all of her life. But I have to admit, I do love the cold weather, and snow around the holidays. I know - I'm weird!

You do know, Kelly, that if you go to Florida, I am going to put the pressure on DH to at least consider being a snow bird for the worst of the winter. I am so jealous.

1 Crazydog, I know all about that as my Mom used to come for a visit and when she was ready to go, there was no talking them into staying. Glad you enjoyed their visit.

sunny day here today. It's been crazy busy getting ready for Mom & Dad. They arrived Friday. I am very surprised, but they decided they needed to get home, so left this morning.

Mom is still having a difficult time getting around (using a walker) but it gets better every day. UGH, I tried everything to get them to stay a little longer. Dad really could use the break! But nope. When they make up their mind, they won't change it. UGH. I miss them.

Got 2 letters from John on Saturday. He did transfer to Charlie Company. He did pass his marksmanship prequalification. So, two positives.

Yeahhhh we have Sunny dropping in! Sometimes finding little treasures like a long lost photo makes it all worth while. ( I don't envy you and your Sis this chore. We know if we decide to head to Florida we will further downsize and I refuse to move so much of the stuff we're holding on to much less continue to pay for storage of the stuff that didn't fit in here.)
Sharon I think you got the rain we had the other day, high today 60 but the sun is high so love it! By the way your Irish Proverb has been a hit.
Today is going to be a down time day, but can't declare it a me day until the nurse decides to tell us what time she'll be by. And of course finish the last two loads of wash.
Hugs to all of you, Kelly

It is good to be here. Life got a little hectic the past few weeks. Sister is moving out of the duplex she shared with Dad and into a smaller place. In light of that, we had to go through all of Dad's belongings/move important things to my house. What a long tedious process and so tiring but it also had it's rewards. I found a photo of one of Dad's sisters who passed away at age 8 with Pneumonia. I had never seen a photo of her and was so thrilled to find it. I scanned it and shared it via e-mail with some of Dad's family.

I am cleaning today and doing wash so better get busy.

Love you all, Sunny

CBarb so very glad that your DS is doing so well! I know that makes you feel so proud, and as content as you can be with him where he is. Glad to hear your mom is doing OK, too.

Sunny, it's so good to see you post again! I have missed you! Hope your Dad is doing OK, too.

Well, it's been raining here for over 24 hours, and it's cold and damp.
Good thing this isn't snow! emoticon

Mom is doing well. PHEW. Still has post op discomfort, but nothing extraordinary.

Got two letters from John yesterday. He did move to Charlie company and seems to be doing well. I just cannot believe from the letters that this is the same boy we sent to basics, because he definitely is soundling like a MAN!

Busy day today, so wishing everyone a blessed Sunday. Prayers for us and our soldiers.

CBarb, yeah, it's hard watching our parents decline. The two people in our lives who always were there and took care of us no matter what. We realize that we don't have that "safety net'" anymore. We're now on the "front line".

I agree with Kelly; you're parents are still able to travel to see you so soon after the surgery. Warm here today - upper 70s- tomorrow not even supposed to make it to 50 degrees! I'll keep this cooler weather as long as I can get it!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday. It's supposed to rain here. They said on the weather this morning if this was January we'd be measuring precipitation i "feet" this weekend.

Antibiotics will do it too, who would've thunk that? Seems to me your parents are very young at heart not many at any age would be able to travel so soon after surgery.

We had rain, cool temps, hubs pushed the on button to the fireplace (felt like a furnace to me)

Have a glorious Sunday all! Kelly

Barb:

Thanks! Yes it is very hard to see parents age and all that goes along with it. Mom & Dad looked in pretty good shape all considered. No confusion last night, thankfully. But then again she's not taking a narcotic. Sheesh! Doesn't it make you think . . . how can people take drugs for recreation. At least for me, I'd rather know what's going on around me. Off soapbox. LOL

Sunny here, cool . . . I'll take it!

Have a great day.

Hope your visit is a good one, CBarb! As for the "Sundown syndrome", I watched it with my dad in his final months, yeah. Hard to deal with your feelings as you deal with loved ones... sometimes it gets fixed with adjustments to meds (happened for my neighbor).

ALOHA: Yes, many things can cause it and I think it really scared Dad. They opted not to stay the night in Rochester (surprised me!) and will probably be here tonight. So, we'll see how things go!

Have a good weekend. Probably won't be on much.

CBarb, in addition to being in new surroundings, meds and just being ill will do it. Yes it can be frightening to watch it happen. That's amazing she will be able to travel so quickly, best wishes for a continued fast recovery (of course having you to take care of them will be a huge help in their well being. By the way, hubs went through it for nearly two months except in his case it was also during the day but got worse as the sun went down.

We'll have cooler temps tomorrow yeah! just too warm if you ask me. Everyone have a great week-end!

Good morning everyone. **SIGH** Talked with Mom this morning. She sounded like she was doing pretty well, but apparently the last two nights haven't gone too well for her. Seems she was experiencing what we called Sundown Syndrome. This is confusion that can often happen to older adults (she's 83) when they're in a different environment (for her, the hospital) and it's night. Apparently she had hallucinations and just was generally agitated. But as I say, she was much better by morning. Dad was with her this morning too and verified that she was lucid. So . . . hope that it's just confusion from a different environment and nightfall.

Mom is to be released from the hospital sometime this morning and will stay in Rochester MN for the day. She and Dad will set out for here (Wisconsin) tomorrow and hopefully be here sometime tomorrow, depending on how MOm is doing. If not, they'll be here Sunday to stay for at least a week.

That's my day . .. so far . . . and it's only 9 am! UGH.

HUGS and prayers for us all and our service men and women. God's blessings.

Good morning everyone. Just an update. Mom was up walking the hall for a few minutes last night. TOLD her they were going to do that, and she didn't believe me. Yup! and she's off to physical therapy this morning, too. Waiting to hear what's going to happen. Unbelievably, discharge could happen today BUT I'm hoping she has at least one more day in hospital. We'll see.

IF you haven't already read it, check out ONEKIDSMOM blog today. Excellent. Good job, Barb!!

Sharon and Barb--

Thanks. Yes, I am very grateful that I get regular letters. It honestly astounds me, because when he lived @ home, he could go for HOURS without saying a word. Now he "spills his guts" in letters.

Just very glad that Mom made it through her surgery. I talked with Dad this evening (she was sleeping) but she'd been up in chair and took some steps already. Hmmm...now maybe she'll believe me when I told her they want you UP!

thaks for your support.

CBarb , so glad to hear that your mom is doing well after her surgery, and that you are continuing to get letters from your son on a regular basis. Sounds like he is being molded into a fine leader!

Hope everyone else is doing fine, and having a good week!
