Oh DIT Sharon, is that why you haven't been feeling well lately? Protective BUBBLE around your son, and his family especially that little ball of fire. emoticon emoticon
And of course you and hubby, you know where to find us...for a change words just escape me so hugs will have to do.

The moon was beautiful here too. The youngsters all went down to the beach, started a bonfire and admired the moon, while the oldsters just went home. Bit overcast still this morning and breezie but sure is pretty out here. Got limited coverage, couldn't get in yesterday but am grateful that I got through today, Sharon here's another bear hug from me.

Meanwhile, everyone make the most of today and prayers to all. Where's that bubble machine when we need it.

Hot and humid here today.

On another note, DS has deployed and reached destination. emoticon
So sad for all. . . . DIL FB post read:
"Watching your deploying husband say goodbye to his 21-month-old who has no idea what's happening has got to be one of the most heartbreaking things ever. — feeling devastated."
That about sums it up for all of us. I felt terrible all week long . . .

Take care and have a super Sunday!

Sunday – had some storms blow through yesterday that dumped a good deal of rain on us! But no flooding. That’s a good thing.

This morning it’s dry again, a bit cooler, but we are expecting Fall-like conditions by Tuesday! A very unusual July indeed. I don’t mind cool weather, honestly, but it’s just odd!

Didn’t get to see the full moon personally, but a friend e-mailed me some pics of it. AWESOME!!!! Just beautiful.

Replenished my freggies yesterday – again! Roasted off some squash, zucchini, onion, and tomato. Cut up a couple English cuke and combined w/oil and balsamic for a cucumber salad this week. Put some onion in that too. And also roasted some chicken thighs so we’ll have that this week for Jason and Clara. I’ll concentrate on the veggies!

Otherwise, that’s about all the news that’s fit to print from here. OH yeah . . . FINISHED MY ARTICLES! DONE! BAM! YEAH!

Hope everyone is well.

Hope it’s a good weekend for y’all!

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers and families. MANY prayers for peace!

Sharon: Yes, finally finished! HURRAY!

Saturday – Early morning walk, but the weather doesn’t look promising for the rest of the day. 64 and cloudy and rain predicted.

ALMOST done with my articles, so for that I am really grateful!!! Hallelujah! Done for another 2 yrs. with that.

Hope it’s a good weekend for y’all!

Sharon: YES!!! DANG!!! It will yet again be warmer in Alaska than here. UNBELIEVABLE! These temps, though, I can take. Might have to switch from frozen hot chocolate with something-something to regular hot chocolate with LOTS of something-something. LOL A girl has to keep warm, right!?! LOL I may take you up on that offer for woolies! YIKES!

Wish there was a way to blow it your way! My SIL in Hot-lanta says the same thing (of course, she gets "the vapors" if it goes above 70 degrees! Don't ask! I just sigh! LOL

Thiry glad to read that you are home once again.

Barb, you are a wealth of information. I learn so much new stuff just by reading our conversations!

Kelly, hope you arrived safely, and are enjoying your reunion.

Nice day here, sun is out, high in low 80's and humidity not too bad. Hey Barb, saw on TV today the northern vortex is making an early comeback next week.
Time to get your woolies out again! emoticon If you don't want it, I'll be glad to have it down here!

Glad the weekend is here once again. Enjoy!

Thiry: You life just does NOT slow down! I hope the elbow heals w/o problems!

Several other thoughts on the hair -- have you had your thyroid level checked? Blood sugar? Both of those things can cause hair loss. I have thyroid problems and lost about 1/2 of my hair when I was first was diagnosed till I was regulated on my thyroid med. Had no idea that diabetes can cause it too!

Well, in any event, hoping things settle down for you and you feel better.

Friday – Grateful for that! Hurray for the weekend. Pretty typical Thursday yesterday. Gorgeous weather so spent lots of time outside. That was pleasant. Got the outdoor walk in already this morning, too! 58 degrees. Helps get the “speed on” walking! Beautiful sunrise.

Continuing to wrap up my articles for my recertification. Will be very glad to get that out of the way. Probably a few more days It will get done!

That’s about all the news that’s fit to print from here. Have a great Friday everyone!

Thiry!!! Take care and speedy recovery. I think it might help to cut your hair and are you using a sulfite free shampoo? That's what was suggested for me.

How funny, we were talking about that movie not too long ago! I'm one of those "campers" too. Snooty Yankee that I am.

Quick drive by, everyone have a wonderful week-end all the way around. Will be thinking about all of you, might even have to find some frozen hot cocoa!

Love and Prayers!

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and well wishes for my arm. Yes Kelly the million dollar question, what did I do to fracture my elbow? I got to come home today. When the doctor stopped in last night the said something about getting me home yet last night and I said that would be great and would have to get ahold of my husband to come get me. I called DH and told him to head up to the hospital to take me home. I then started getting some of my things together and had everything ready with the exception of putting on my clothes as I was waiting to get the IV out. After 3 hours of waiting the nurse finally came into my room and said that the doctor had decided to keep me overnight and release me in the morning. Needless to say I wasn’t a happy camper. This morning it took over an hour to reach DH by phone and I was getting really upset as he told me last night to call when I was ready to head home. He had killed the battery on his phone and then didn’t plug it in and didn’t have it in the room with him. I was just about to call and arrange a cab to take me home since I was having trouble getting DH on the phone. I napped off and on today as I didn’t sleep well at all while in the hospital. Monday night I think I got 1 hour of sleep, Tuesday and Wednesday I am lucky if I got 3 hours. Wednesday morning I was sleeping soundly and the nurse/aide came in and woke me at 4 am to take vitals. I didn’t get back to sleep after that. I have to wear the sling for the next 2 weeks until I go to the doctor. I am surprised that they didn’t put my arm in a caste but only have the sling. When I see the bone specialist he will be checking to see if the fracture is healing properly as if it doesn’t I will have to have surgery to fix it so please pray that it heals properly and quickly. I am not really having pain in the arm now (since the first day in the hospital) as long as I don’t move it which isn’t all that possible with the sling. I did lean forward earlier to try to pet Storm and felt some pain but other than that I am not in pain. I didn’t even get any pain pills for the arm; only take Tylenol if it is needed. The only thing is that my fingers are getting stiff in the sling so I keep moving them as much as possible.

We found out today that the starter was the problem with my car. That really surprised me as DH took it off and the place in Cedar Rapids tested it 3 times and it passed all three times. I guess there was a “dead spot” in the starter and if it wasn’t in that spot it would start and pass the test that they did for us. They are having trouble getting the clutch switch put in its place as I guess something got bent so they are trying to straighten out what got bent so the switch can be put in the correct place then we can get the car back. It isn’t going to do much good having the car back though as I am not supposed to drive until I see the doctor on the 23rd. That is going to drive me crazy as I am so used to getting in the car and going as needed.

KELLY I have been seriously thinking about cutting my hair. It is really falling out so much since my pneumonia in February that I don’t have much left and it has gone from almost middle of my back about a year ago to barely reaching my shoulders. I have even commented about shaving my head and letting it grow back from there. Enjoy your trip.

I saw a post on Facebook earlier tonight from my DS. He is in Columbus this week for the finishing of the month AT. The other night he and some of his buddies went to Hy-Vee to get some beer. Hy-Vee wouldn’t sell them any beer as they asked all 5 guys for their ID’s. One of the guys didn’t have his driver’s license so he showed them his military ID. They wouldn’t accept the military ID for the beer sales. Needless to say the buys are not happy with the store. I guess my DS is planning on contacting the corporate offices about the situation. He also posted a picture he took at a Wal-Mart that indicates that a military ID is acceptable for alcohol sales.

Well it has been a long day and I am still tired even though I took a couple naps today so should be heading to bed. Take care and have a great rest of the week.

Thiry

Hope you're feelin' better, too, Thiry.

Airstream trailer - suhwheat! They are supposed to be VERY nice! I remember my parents always talking about them, and how they'd buy one if they were rich! My idea of camping is the closest emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon hotel. If you haven't already seen it, I recommend the movie Troop Beverley Hills starring Shelly Long! What a hoot! Now that's my dream style of camping! emoticon

Have a safe trip, Kelly, and I hope the weather cooperates. Spent a day in Monterrey when my son got married in 07. Did a whole day trip there and drove down the coast to Big Sur; about 18 hour day all told, but definitely beautiful! Drove through Pebble Beach area on the $20 car tour, but it was worth it - definitely some BEAUTIFUL homes there!

We've been having lots of thunderstorms the last couple of weeks. Don't mind the rain at all - just the noise emoticon . Sunny, but humid today so far.

Barb still got Jason in thoughts. . .

Sunny, hope you are doing fine, too.

Catch ya later!

Thiry: Hope your elbow is feeling better.

Kelly: Have fun in your Airstream! I'm not into roughing it too much either. Did camping as a kid. I think my idea of camping now is Motel 8 (LOL! Spoiled? Guess so!)

Thiry!!! Good Heavens....still another one of those, how'd that happen?

Hope the storms weren't too severe Sharon. I know how much you love them (NOT).

I'm going to be at the Jellystone KOA park in Watsonville, probably half way between San Jose and Monterey. It's a cousins get together, I managed to score an Airstream for a couple of nights otherwise I would have been in a hotel near by. I'm not into "roughing" it. The cabins they get you have to go to the big outhouse, plus you have to bring your own linens, etc. There are nicer cabins but that Airstream just caught my fancy and bingo, got one. I'm staying at the airport Friday and Monday, flying back on Tuesday. Wanted to stay longer but the water heater took those plans. John's class had a reunion in Monterey back in '03, he was so sorry he only made it a three day visit because he loved the area. Yes, he was a workaholic and the fact he was willing to go all the way to Hawaii for vacations amazed everyone.

Getting a hair cut today, the guy who cuts it is a trip and gives one heck of a scalp massage in the shampoo (worth the extra money, I usually run in and grab a cut). Guess what his nick name is...the hairfaery. That's what his business card says, no foolin'!!!

Have a great one, lots of hugs and prayers for our Country and even more for Israel.

Kelly

Thiry, sorry to hear about your fracture! Good thing it was diagnosed. . .

Barb, praying for Jason.

Kelly, you are becoming the jet-setter! Where are you going on left coast? How long will you be gone?

Storms rolling in again, so I've got to make this short, and finish up some other sparking.

UPDATE: the nurse just came in and said the bone doctor called to tell her to put my arm in a sling as i have a hairline fracture.

No I don't know what I did that would have caused the fracture.

Further updates as I find out more as the doctors come back around.

Kelly: I do believe that Eda's stepson was found to have coronary artery disease. **SIGH** That is such a red flag, because so many young people today do NOT think twice about what they put in their body -- they wear the cloak of invincibility. Just sad.

Thanks for the extra laps around the rosary! It helps! And his interview in Kentucky would be where the headquarters is located. His position should he get it would be in Wauwatosa, WI about 1/2 hr. from us.

Hello everyone. I started to post something last night be after spending time looking over posts since my last one and making some comments I somehow closed out my entire post so went to sleep and decided to start fresh this morning. I want to thank all of you for your support on the job hunting, DH medical problems and results and my friends medical. It is all greatly appreciated. Other things I was trying to say are:
Good luck to those that are also job hunting
Glad to hear that things are going well for Joshua. Hope things continue
Sorry your mom is having problems and hope things get better for her.
Hope your birthday was a good one Sunny
Good luck to your dad on his surgery and hope things go well for him
With the way things have gone in my life lately I don’t know what I would do with a dull life. I would know what to do with myself

As for the situation at the motel, I was surprised that nobody was taken away but that is the way things go. The one county sheriff was 15 miles away when he got the call so drove to the motel full lights and siren to get there as quickly as possible. The officers did threaten to take the whole wedding party to jail if they didn’t settle down and leave the area of the room where everything happened. I didn’t talk to the husband of the woman that was screaming that caused the disturbance I found out that she has a problem with alcohol and the family knowing that her brother still bought shots and insisted that she drink them because he had paid for them. Like me, with family like that don’t need any enemies!!!
As I said the other night I have been busy since getting back from the trip to Iowa. DH had to drive the riding lawn mower to the property. The next morning we went out there and I mowed (the grass was almost waist high) while DH worked on the garden. The weeds had almost taken over the whole garden. I got a lot of bug bites while mowing. Thursday we packed our food and drinks and went to the “music in the Park” after going to the local liquor store wine tasting. It was a nice evening listening to the music, eating and enjoying the cool breeze and best of all it was free. Friday I spent most of the day relaxing as I had to work Friday night. I am glad I did with the way things went that night. Saturday night was more calm but still very busy and I was scheduled for breakfast again Sunday morning. The other breakfast person is really good to work with as she doesn’t get upset when I take time to sit and rest after being on my feet for extended periods of time. As a matter of fact she has even gone so far as to turn off the light and almost close the door to the back room off the breakfast kitchen and tell me to take a nap. While working breakfast Sunday morning I got a text from DS (just got back from a month AT in California) wanting to know if I was home. I told him I was working so towards 11 he showed up at the motel with his DD and girlfriend. We talked a few minutes when the other breakfast worker told me that she would finish the cleanup and that I should get out of there and enjoy a visit with me DS and granddaughter. He gave me a ride home as DH had dropped me off after the fireworks Saturday night and was planning on coming about 11:30 to pick me up. We had a nice visit before they left to get some food then go to the water park for the afternoon.

Monday started out as any other day. I stripped the bed and started laundry, put dishes away and started dish water to wash the dirty dishes. I also vacuumed the living room floor and printed a bunch of stuff for my friend. DH was working on putting the new clutch switch on the car but was unable to get it back in place. It worked but needed to press the switch with our hand to start the car. DH was showing me how to do this so I could take the car to Omaha for my job interviews on Wednesday but to stop in Blair for his son to finish getting the switch put where it belongs. He then was going to take the failed hopper box to UPS to ship it back but the car wouldn’t start again. Needless to say we are at a loss for what is going on with the car. He talked to his Vocational Rehab worker and found out that they would pay for the repairs as long as they don’t exceed the total amount they will pay each year. He also found out that they would provide a gas voucher for us to use for job hunting. We were trying to get the car started to take it to the shop when I told him let’s not “break our backs pushing the car to pop start it”. We then called AAA and had them send a tow truck to take the car to the repair shop. While he was with them taking the car in I was working on supper. During this time my right arm started to hurt near the elbow. I spent the rest of the evening trying to work on job hunting stuff and fold laundry. By about 9 my arm was hurting to bad I was in tears and could hardly move it. DH asked what my blood pressure was and when I took it he decided we needed to have it checked out so we headed to the hospital. When we got there they took blood and x-rays. They were thinking a strain until DH pointed out that my knuckles were red. They then looked more closely and found that the upper arm was also a bit red so at that point it was decided to start an IV and put me on IV antibiotics. The ER doctor was thinking cellulitis (? spelling) (skin infection). Yesterday my doctor stopped by my room and left puzzled as all my labs came back fine, no fever, and nothing that had happened to indicate any kind of injury. I was only able to bend my arm a little, not able to straighten it but not bend enough to be able to use it to feed myself. Yesterday afternoon he came back and said he was calling in a bone specialist as there was a possibility that I had fractured my radial cap. I asked how that could have happened and that is when he said that is the puzzling thing since there wasn’t anything that had happened that could have caused it that we know of. The bone doctor came in a short while later and looked at my arm. He said that what he really wanted to do was to use a needle and go into the elbow area to check for infection but was hesitant to do that because if I do have the skin infection then he would be introducing the infection into my elbow. He has scheduled an MRI for this morning to see if that will help resolve what is going on with my arm. He is thinking one of 3 possible things which are 1. Gout, 2. Infection or 3. Bleeding into the area because of my being on the blood thinner. If there is infection in the elbow the doctor said that they would have to go in and clean it out. I am hoping that doesn’t have to be done. I am also hoping we get the answers with the MRI but will have to wait and see what happens. I have had to reschedule my 2 interviews for today and when I was called yesterday by the one staffing firm here in Norfolk for an interview either today or tomorrow I had to tell them I didn’t know when I was going to be available for an interview. They told they would put everything on hold and that I should call them when I am available again.

Take care
Thiry

I don't know Sharon. A friend just lost his 19 year old nephew to a heart problem. I agree, they are going through so much with her Mom and now this. At least their deployed son will be able to come home for this.

Sunny, add my condolences to your husband and family. She is at Peace now.

And an extra two laps around the rosary for Jason. Would that mean the job is in Kentucky? I'm smiling at Sharon's remark about tellin' you right now, I'd want you in my corner too.

I agree about wishing we lived closer to Eda, she is one strong young woman and gives so much of herself. Sigh.

The storms missed us, went all around and dumped a boat load to the south. Lucky! Got to get moving, lots to do before I head to the left coast on Friday. Have a great one, HUGS

Wednesday – PHEW! Survived Tuesday. One of those days where I’d start to do one thing and see 10 others that needed attention as well! So, hoping today is a little slower in that regard.

Got the outside walk done. So nice outside! Low humidity. Saw a beautiful sunrise this morning. That’s always a treat.

So, onward with Wednesday – mid-week! That’s a good thing.

Sharon: Probably my best "learning arena" for navigating the system was home health care. OMG -- Medicare rules and regulations (which is basically what the insurance industry follows) changed almost by the second, so I had that # on my speed dial when a patient wasn't getting the services they needed. Had Manager's and Supervisor's private line #'s! Amazing how things got done with a call to them! HEE HEE So, lessons well learned about working the halls and back doors! Dad won't even know what happened! emoticon

I remember once Mom complained for over a year about a bill that wasn't being paid for a lab that was done. I asked her repeatedly to let me see the bill but nope . . . she wanted to handle it herself. Finally one day she cried "Uncle" and showed me the bill. I just burst out laughing! The insurance company wouldn't pay for a PSA test for her. Well . . . DUH! I explained to Mom that is a blood test they do to test for prostate cancer, and last I checked, she didn't have one of those!!!!! LOL -- so I called the insurance company, and talked with a VERY apologetic supervisor! Actually, we had a good chuckle about it. So, voila . . . a years worth of frustration for Mom that was handled in about 5 minutes! She never again refused my help when it came to things like that!

I was shocked and saddened with Kelly's post on Eda's blog. I can't even imagine what she must be going through. What would cause a major heart attack in a 23 year old man? He looked to be the picture of health and vitality . . . just so so sad. emoticon

Barb will say extra prayers for Jason! This sounds encouraging! A two-fer!
If I need any surgery, I'm going to call you to be my health advocate. I'm just tellin' you right now . . .
Man, you can sure navigate those back halls and doors! emoticon

Sunny, sorry to hear about your DH cousin's passing . . . Hope you are getting your strength back again and feeling better each day.

Kelly, thanks for the note about Eda's blog. . . I wish we all lived closer so we could be there for her.

Kelly, we had some ugly weather last night but today, it is a very nice 80 degrees and no humidity. We went into town to get haircuts (bridge going in was closed due to the flooding but the new bridge which is west bound is now open to east bound as well as west bound). Got to get going as I need to get ready to go to Hannibal for Rich's Cousin's visitation. She will be so missed. She had cancer and it was stage 4 when diagnosed - bless her heart.

My heart aches for Eda. I too read her blog and my heart just fell. No one should have to loose a child. Thinking about her and her family as they gather to say their goodbyes and celebrate his life.

Barb, so happy to hear about Jason's interviews. Praying they go well and he gets one of the jobs.

Hugs to all, Sunny

Tuesday – Very nice today . . . much less hot and humid. Already did my walk. Was going to walk last night, but it was stormy. Seems to be the norm right now.

Jason had good news today. He is going to Kentucky for round #2 interviews w/a company on the 22nd and 23rd July. So, forward movement we hope!

AND he just got a text setting up an interview w/the WI Insurance Commissioners Ofc.! That will be next Tuesday. PRAYERS and MORE that one of the two works.

Otherwise, still doing “battle” with dad about going THERE to take care of both of them. Have to let it simmer for a bit, though, because ultimately I want it to be HIS idea. Then he’ll agree. Sheesh!

Have a great Tuesday. Drink your water! It’s hot out there.

Kelly: HA! Have a call into the primary care Dr. (I worked with him when I lived in IL) and we had a little “chit chat” about things. He will definitely give Dad the blow-by-blow AND is going to talk w/the surgeon as well (another Dr. I knew working in nursing in IL). So, that’s covered. It is disgusting to me that it would be as an outpatient on an **87 yr. old man** but got the point across that he should REALLY at least be admitted to 23 hr. observation. I can see Medicare and the Ins. Co. squawking, because it’s “more $$$$” to do that vs. straight admission, but hey, I don’t set the rules. It’ll get resolved . . . MY WAY! HA

My Dad always used to tell me, “You may be tiny, but your cantankerous!” Ok . . . whatever you want to call it! LOL I don’t get walked over, that’s for sure!

Stay safe form the storms!

OMG, I was absolutely stunned to read Eda’s blog. Absolutely unfathomably heartbreaking.

Sunny: YES, Dad thinks it’ll be a “piece of cake” (said by a man who has never had that type of surgery before!)

OH boy, so sorry to hear about the flooding. **SIGH**

Sharon: All I can say my dear is your money is well placed! LOL Knowing both the PCP and the surgeon I will take care of the situation from “behind the scenes”. Already talked w/the PCP, and he’ll talk w/the surgeon. DONE!

Oh Dear Lord, my heart is just racing. Just read Eda's blog about their son. I see some of you have responded to it. Beyond that, I am just speechless.

I tried to send a team goodie (although that doesn't seem like the right word) but there is a glitch.

May be Rest in Peace, and God comfort his family.

I'm surprised the state hasn't sent in the Guard to help, it may be local but this is just crazy.

Nashville supposedly has won the ranking of second best in the Nation for fireworks. They are good but I think Boston should be second. Still ticked that they don't show it anymore. Some of the little towns around here do a really decent job with them and have moved them to the night before to not compete with Nashville. When I worked at the airport, you could go to the upper deck garage and watch several shows all at once!

The blood draw was for a cancer study I'm participating in. We are going to have some ugly weather later this afternoon although it has gotten really dark in the last few minutes. So I'm going to say, it'll be all day.

Everyone have a good one, HUGS

Thiry, there is never a dull moment for you is there?! emoticon Sheesh!

Oh Barb, my heart goes out to you! My dad was the same way. I argued every step of the way with him, too. Call primary care doc and have him tell him someone HAS to take care of him - either strangers or you. Gee, I wonder which one he'll choose? It just baffles the mind sometimes, doesn't it? I'm puttin' my money on you girl!

Sunny, hope that town can save itself. I saw a couple of short clips on the news. I feel so sorry for those people. . .

Kelly, hope you are doing well. I watched NYC fireworks, too. They were great! I don't even bother with the local ones any more. No variety, and the same music every year.

Hi Everyone. Flood waters continue to rise here in Missouri and the town south of us who did not have the funds to fight it has called for volunteers and it is my understanding they are doing what they can to save the town.

Here is the original article where they voted not to spend $$ they did not have.
www.thenewstribune.com/2014/07/02/32

I think they spent close to a half million last year and this is a town of less than 500. It is sad but the reality is they just don't have the funds. I am not sure about the National Guard, etc. helping. All in all, it is sad so praying their efforts are successful.

Barb, hope it all works out with your parents. You Dad doesn't want you to help? Does he think he can do it on his own? Bless his heart.

Take care and have a Marvie Monday.

See you all later. Hugs, Sunny

Geez, day surgery - just as I feared! Do you have the name of his primary? Maybe you can call ahead and ask that Doc really give him the low down on this. Then do the same with his surgeon. My heart goes out to you, maybe your Dad has forgotten you might be tiny but you are mighty!

Monday – well, a busy Sunday. Had several errands to run. Got it done, though! It was one of those days I didn’t feel like eating, but knew I had to, so I did. Besides had to cook for Jason and Clara!

Working my way through figuring out how to take care of Mom and Dad together! He still doesn’t want me to be there, but I’m a “sore loser”, so plan on winning this one!

Gorgeous day, but will be hot and humid. The sun came up and it was hot for my morning walk already . . . early in the morning! But supposed to cool off the next several days.

And with that, I’ll sign off! Have a great Monday. Keep sparking.

Kelly: No, I don't think he has any idea that, in the first place, those surgeries are done outpatient. That means someone has to drive him there AND stay there to drive him home. I've tried to tell him, but seems like he's going to have to hear that from Drs. lips and he'll listen. **SIGH** But I am not giving up!

HUGS and prayers for our soldiers and families.

Good Lord Barb, complex doesn't describe it. What is he thinking? Of course he wants to show he is perfectly capable of getting through this alone and thinks he can, but that is just wild. I certainly hope his surgery isn't going to be one of those drive bys. Huge hugs.

What I find interesting with the Tour, are the wall to wall crowds way bigger than France. And the commentators give a history lesson as they go through those towns.

I think summer will be back here too. Let me get moving. Having a fasting blood draw this morning and need to distract my tummy. Have a good one.

Sunday – Got out for my walk and it’s wonderful! Supposed to get warmer and more humid towards mid-week, but nice today. The sun is out so enjoying it.

Well, life just gets more complex. Dad says he will probably have to have hernia surgery. He will see his primary care physician on Monday and then I assume be referred to a surgeon. He asked me to take care of Mom, which I of course will do, but it’s a matter of how to go about it. He doesn’t want me to stay there. He wants to have Mom here. I just cannot see that working @ all, because HE is going to need someone to take care of HIM too! But that is a thought he’s not facing right now. **SIGH** So, will talk with him later this morning and get things squared away. If I have my way I will spend at least a week in IL to take care of them. Don’t know how it’s going to work, but it has to work, so that’s that.

So, that’s all the news that’s fit to print from here . . . or not!

Have a blessed Sunday. HUGS and prayers for our soldiers and families.

Sunny: I think we all need those days to just “catch up” with the indoor stuff. It never seems to get done during the summer cuz I’m outside!

Thiry: You never have anything dull in your life, do you!!! **SIGH** Hope the rowdies were better after the visit!

Kelly: Hmmm . . . didn’t know that the Tour de France was going on! England definitely is beautiful. Been to London, Brighton and Stone Henge.

Thiry, seems to me if there were that many cops required, those fools would be elsewhere. So I hope you had a quieter night too!

Sunny, I don't understand why the Guard wasn't called out if that was the case. Breaks my heart to read that article.

Well, it looked like Mother Nature forgot to check her calendar in Daytona. Man did it rain there last night, don't think they got the race in. Speaking of races, the Tour de France started yesterday - in England! Beautiful countryside. My first reaction was, that'll be interesting biking across the Channel. Wonder if they will ride through the tunnel, never heard that part.

We have been so lucky, great weather. Getting spoiled really, not going to be happy when summer shows up again. Well, hugs to all and have a great Sunday!

Quick stop by. Been really busy since getting home Tuesday. Sitting at our local fireworks display but have to leave early as have to work tonight. Hopefully tonight will be much quieter than last night. Had 2 county sheriff officers and 2 state patrol officers at the motel for 2 hours last night. Same group still in house tonight

hope everyone had a safe 4th of july.

Kelly - I think they did with hopes they would have volunteers to help "save the town". That is what the town leaders decided so guess the newspaper thought it should headline the news that day. They are now calling for volunteers. They just don't have the funds to fight it like they did last year.

Saturday --- bit warmer and the sun is out. That’s good! Beautiful sunrise.

It was nice watching the fireworks on TV . . . comfy and no crowds! Had enough fireworks going off in the neighborhood that poor Mr. Spot was just firmly planted in my lap. He was happy as long as I didn’t move! LOL Back to normal today. Wait . . . what is normal!?? LOL

Have to get to the store today or tomorrow. I’d rather do it today, so I will get organized and do it. I already have the list, so that’s a good start. I prepare my shopping list and menu @ the same time. That way I know I have what I need for my week!

Grrrr! Don't know what's going on but I posted yesterday and . . . . NADA! Zip! What can I say.

Anyone in the path of Arthur I wish you safety!!!

Kelly: Yes, that’s a good idea to “change it up” w/the allergy med. I do that too . . . . Claritin, Zyrtec or Allavert. Helps!

Thanks for the Pot Roast method! Going to try it. Love smoky flavor and that sounds delightful!

Sharon: Glad you were safe in the storms.

Sunny: Glad you got away and are getting some of your pep back. Takes so dang long!

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers and families.

Hope everyone had a great Fourth. A lot of mom and pop stores and restaurants either closed very early in the afternoon or closed for the day, inconvenient because I had a very hungry teenager wanting Thai, but wonderful to see folks willing to do that. Found a place that I hadn't been to in a long time so all was well.

Sunny, really a newspaper would headline that? Of course they would. That is so sad to hear. Actually hadn't heard anything about weather up your way, it was all about the Atlantic.
In spite of all that happy you got away and enjoyed yourselves. AND that you are getting your energy back, it has been a tough few months for you all.

Enjoy the rest of your week-end, hugs to all of you!

Happy Birthday America! So proud of our soldier who value and keep our our country free. We owe them so very much! A toast to our troops with you, Sharon.

Enjoyed our couple of days away and now home and resting. I am finally getting my energy back although it has taken some time. I loved the B & B overlooking the Mighty Mississippi. It was an awesome view. We got out in time though as the bridge to the B & B is under water today. The river should crest today or tomorrow then start receding. The little town south of the B & B (Clarksville, Mo.) does not have the $$ to fight the river so the headlines in the paper yesterday was "Clarksville will let the river take the town. It is just so sad. It used to be a fairly busy area with quaint little shops right along the river. They are all closed down and the shops have moved out. It looked like a ghost town and will look even worse after the river takes it. Praying that the damage from the flooding is minimal.

Hope you all have a very Happy 4th. We are keeping it simple and staying home.

Love you all, Sunny

Celebrate America! Happy Fourth of July... emoticon

As always Sharon, great blog you did and a history lesson on the companies to go with it.

Pot roast is very simple, stick it in an old pan sprayed well with Pam. Add at least a can of beer, some chunked veggies to your roast, cover it, stick it on a preheated grill, indirect heat, for how ever long it takes. Check it and add either water or more beer as needed. Also works well with red wine. Seems to me there was more to fixing it than the beer pot roast. Of course the oops my chicken sat on a beer can is awesome too!

I think Kyle uses hardwood pieces, seems to me he'd use something with it. We looked at one years ago but decided we didn't want a work out every time you lifted that danged lid!

They are playing a song that I haven't heard in a long, long time think the title is An American Soldier.

Hugs to all of you, may our brave warriors be safe.

Looks like I passed the index spike on to you Sharon. It is supposed to be better today here too. Looks like Arthur is going to mess up a lot of plans along the coast though. Wow, you must have been worn out to nap that long. Hope you were able to sleep last night.

I was going to suggest local honey too! Doc suggested I change from Alavert to Zyrtec just to change it up since I'd taken the other for so long, I only take it as needed. I'm going back to Alavert, cheaper and you just pop it in your mouth and let it melt. (The store brand of Zyrtec wasn't much cheaper, go figure)

Oh yeah, he loved his grills. You can't live in Texas and not have a smoker. Laughing because the in-laws thought we had lost our minds, cooked a turkey on the gas grill for our son's first birthday (42 years ago egads) . We lived in Pennsylvania at the time, had a huge lot and neighbors were asking what on earth were we doing it smelled that good. Come on over. He used to do a pot roast on the weber then tried the grill and it worked just as well with less worry about the coals. Our son-in-law got an electric smoker, to their surprise it does quite well. Our son got one of those big green egg things, now that's some serious stuff comin' off of that babe.

Let me go get the house picked up and the guest room put back together. Our granddaughter is spending the night tomorrow before heading back to JAX Saturday. She's been here awhile with the other grandparents, usually I don't get to see her at all so I'll take it as I can. There's more for her to do there, kids her age on the block and all her cousins live up that way,

Enjoy the coolness!

Thursday – week is speeding by! Early morning dentist appointment so have to say hi quickly.

Yesterday and today are so pleasant! Yesterday’s high was 62F. Today – maybe upper 60’s to 70F. I’ll take it. AND bonus points – the sun is out! Promises to be a nice 4th and weekend. I’ll take it, too.

Have a great Thursday. Don’t forget to count your blessings!

Sharon: you bet . . . it's a no brainier for me too -- in the 60's!

You know, I take a bit of local honey too (not too much w/the diabetes) and it helps. I am lucky because my system doesn't shoot the blood sugar high with it, so at least for now, it's worthwhile!

Hope you don't get rained out for the 4th!

64 degrees vs our heat index of 105 today . . . which one do I choose? Do I need to think about this? NOT! emoticon I was so drained after running errands today I fell dead asleep around 4 PM, and woke up at 5:30 PM to the sound of thunder. Thundering here right now. Rain and storms. Wonder if we'll get rained out for the 4th?

Barb, you're so right about just placing an allergy pill in with the rest of 'em. DH likes Zyrtec alot. He also takes a tablespoon of local wildflower honey every day for the last 18 months or so, and that has alleviated the many of his symptoms, and the intensity. He seems no more worse off than me now, and I don't take any allergy medicine as mine are for a short time in spring and then again in the fall.
Sealtest Neapolitan Ice Cream was our usual too! emoticon

Kelly was John a "grill master"? You sure had all the right equipment! I know my DH would love a smoker, even though we do smoke while we grill on the Weber.

emoticon Sunny! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have a good one lovies!

Wednesday – got lots of outside work done yesterday, thankfully. Lots of clean-up with branches, etc. from the storm and the like. Cool day! Right now it’s 61 degrees and only supposed to get to 64. That feels pleasant compared to the last couple days!

Talked w/Mom and Dad and they had a bucket of rain too, but were safe. Mom is really bothered by her allergies, but refuses to take anything for it. Talking to Dad today to suggest he just put it in with her pills. He sets them up and she’d never know the difference. **SIGH**

We’ll see what today brings, but a nice start as I got my walk in and saw a wonderful sunrise. Lots of other walkers too.

HUGS and here’s to a great middle-of-the-week!

Kelly: yes, yesterday and today are completely tranquil! PHEW. Lots of storm clean-up yesterday, but it is done now. So many people still w/o power yesterday. I count my blessings that we didn’t lose power! So many trees uprooted, unbelievable . . . MASSIVE trees literally ripped up from the ground.

Neopolitan ice cream . . . covers all the bases! LOL Haven’t had it in a long time, but that was our “go-to” ice cream growing up.

Sunny: Happy Birthday!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers and families.

Happy Birthday Sunny!!! emoticon m emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Wow Barb, those were some storms that blew through! Glad to hear all is okay.

See, guess it depends on where you are with our cows. Brown cows to me were anything other than seltzer with chocolate ice cream, mostly coke. But I like the idea of neopolitan.

We had a little Smokey too! The Weber we have now has got to be over 15 years old. Alternated between that and the gas grill (which we gave to a neighbor to rehab, because the inside blistered and we just weren't up to that job). Oh and the smoker we had since the 80's bit the dust a couple three years ago. Really didn't use it much after moving here though.

It's nice out right now, had the back door open for awhile to air out the house but soon as those clouds move out it'll be hot again (not like yesterday though).

Have a good one! Prayers for everyone...

Oh . . . we always had root beer with neopolitan ice cream! Hmmmm . . . never knew there was a difference! Never had it with Coca Cola.

Yes, the Smokey Joes are nice. Had one too.

Kelly, a hibachi was our first little grill. Shortly thereafter my parents replaced it with a little Smokey Joe which we loved, and was big enough just for the two of us. That's something you might consider for yourself. It's small enough to lift and move and is easy to store, and easy to take on a picnic, and yet would give you a little grill to cook on if you had company for dinner. It cooks every bit as good as its bigger brothers - the 18 & 22 inch Weber grills. Here is a link:

Barb, glad to read that you are OK after those storms blew through last night! I was wrong about the recipe. Here's what I found:

Brown Cow - It's either (or both!) root beer with chocolate ice cream or coca cola with vanilla ice cream, sometimes with a shot of chocolate syrup in either one.

Prayers for our troops. . .

Tuesday – HORRID weather last night. Wicked bad storms blew through – 3 in. of rain in ½ hr. . . . like a river being sucked up and thrown against the building. But it slowed down a little bit after that ½ hr. Then another thunderstorm blew through, but it was less intense. PHEW. Still overcast this morning, but no rain. And I see the sun trying to peek out! At least it was dry enough for an outdoor walk.

So, thankful today that we were safe in the storms. Many lost trees, power, houses due to tornados and flooding. We didn’t have that!

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers and families.

Sharon: YES! A brown cow is another name for a root beer float. That’s what we called it “back in the dinosaur ages when I roamed as a kid.” I remember a cousin visiting. Dad made us breakfast – watermelon (which we ate outside and had seed spitting contests AND had my cousin convinced if he swallowed a seed he’d grow a watermelon in his tummy! AND along with that Dad served us brown cows. My cousin looked wide eyed and asked “Is this what you have for breakfast every morning?” Of COURSE we didn’t miss a beat answering, “YES!” BWAHAHAHa!

Sunny: Joshua is in my prayers and thoughts as well. YOU TOO!

Kelly: OMG . . . yes, I remember both the hibachis and fondue. Fondue is making an appearance again. Everything old is new again!

Well I caved and had a root beer float. On my way home stopped in Sonic, got their dollar cup, brought that home and poured some Abita Springs root beer over it, Sonic doesn't have ice cream sodas, who knew? The favorite ice cream shoppe was closed yesterday, there is another one across town but I just wasn't going that far for ice cream. And I was remembering the brown cow and creamsicle too. Can't remember the last time I had cream soda.

I have a bag of quick start charcoal in the garage, so think I will fire up the weber. Another memory, the hibachi. One for outside and a tiny one for inside, throwback to the 60's. Along with the fondue pot.

Good to see you Sunny, you sound much more relaxed! I too wish all the best for Joshua, to steal from Sharon...in all the universe.

It's beautiful out right now, slight breeze but it is going to get ugly...heat index into 100. So I hope it doesn't get uglier elsewhere.

Hang in there Barb.

Gosh, you all hit me right away with the National Soda Day and Chocolate Shavings on top of the shipped cream on the Strawberry Pie! Too late to do a soda today, and I had plenty of room for one! Oh well. . .Was a Brown Cow with Chocolate Ice Cream and Cream Soda? That Creamsicle soda sounded mighty good tonight. Of course, root beer was a staple fallback after chocolate soda for me. I am going to do that Strawberry Pie for the 4th, and maybe a Blueberry one as well. We'll see how I feel when it comes time to get down to the cooking.

Kelly, I know what you're saying about firing up the grill just for one. Maybe you should get a little gas grill that you just turn on and preheat for 5 minutes or so.

Sunny, will be keeping Joshua in thoughts and prayers, and I wish him all of the luck the universe has to offer.

Barb, hope you had a good day today.

Hope you were all not affected with severe weather. emoticon

Sunny: Mom never did like change (well, in all fairness, who DOES!) but it just really seems to get her down right now when she drops a word and other things that she just can't help. I am just grateful that I can "talk her down" and get her to a better place. **SIGH** Aging . . . NOT for sissies.

Severe weather here too. But we'll see what really happens. Prepared in any event.

HUGS and glad Joshua is on the road to getting settled. PRAYERS
