Here's one for the 4th. Too bad our celebrities no longer do this kind of thing. . .

OMG Sunny, I would have been out of that house and down at the end of the street, and NOT set foot back into that house again until I had an exterminator check it totally out - and maybe not even then! emoticon

Hope you all had a great 4th - we had friends over for a "cookout", but had to cook in due to rain. Then the humidity set in big time, and now it's foggy!

Sweet dreams all - see ya tomorrow!

Getting older does stick!! Just ask hubs.....

Do keep us posted on Jason. So glad they can do it via lap.

Quite here today with the exception of a black snake in the basement. I think he came in when the basement flooded and then took refuge behind the insulation. Brian came over and got him out of there. Ugh.

Thanks goodness for Brian.

Joshua was here yesterday and we grilled the steaks he got for Dad for Father's day. We kept talking about his tube feedings being liquid rib eyes so Joshua got him some rib eyes to have after the tube feedings were completed. He brought me a beautiful Hibiscus for my BD and a very sweet card. I am just so thankful he is doing so well.

Sharon, I loved the quote by President Regan. We have forgotten this and our government continue to "grab for power". God Bless us all.

Rich got me a Journaling Bible for my BD and I have been working in it. Here is just one of my entries. I got the idea from someone else's page on pinterest. I am not an artist so that makes it a little difficult.

Do have a day full of great memories as we celebrate our Soldiers who gave us our Freedom which we value so dearly.

Hugs, Sunny

Independence Day Message
As Written by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, Washington, D.C., Saturday, July 04, 2015

As we celebrate Independence Day, I want to thank the men and women who serve our nation at home and abroad for all that you do to help keep America safe.

When George Washington issued one of his first general orders on July 4, 1775, he transformed a loose group of colonial militias into a single force united in a common cause. They built a legacy that lives on today, through generations of patriots like you, who have defended the ideals enshrined in our founding documents: the belief that we are all created equal and endowed with unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It’s the risks you take, and the sacrifices you make, that ensure those ideals endure for all of us.

This Independence Day, you, including the nearly 200,000 troops currently serving overseas and unable to spend this holiday with their loved ones, continue to protect our country and ensure a more peaceful and prosperous world for our children. In Europe and the Middle East, across the Asia-Pacific and in Africa, in cyber-space and at home, you prove that wherever our troops go, our highest ideals – the ones Washington and his troops fought for – go with them.

As Americans celebrate at home and around the world, my thoughts are with you and with your families.

May God bless you, and may God bless the great nation we defend. Happy Independence Day.

Yeah . .. . dang it . . . . he managed to double down. **SIGH** It's always something and then some isn't it!

I think it is wise that he has the weekend to recuperate, but don’t bet he’ll be ready to go back till at least the Wednesday after, but one day-at-a-time.

Mom and Dad;s Dr. visit went well. PHEW

Enjoy the Fourth. Enjoy the freedoms we have!

HUGS and enjoy the fourth!

Extra hugs and prayers for our soldiers, families and our country today as we celebrate our freedoms and those who earned it for us!

Jason did see the surgeon today. Will have lap surgery. No only has an inguinal hernia but a ventral (abdominal =) hernia too. So they'll take care of both. Oh boy. It is going to take time to recuperate, but the Dr. felt that he'd be ready in about 5 days. I think so. Getting "older" stinks! LOL

Yes, Jason sees the surgeon today, ad we’ll know what the plans are. Thanks for the prayers.

Glad you’ll have some company @ the end of the month. Nice!

Sharon: That is pathetic the attitude some have. **SIGH**

Yes, it was one long trip for my Dad, but he did well. And yes, the “icing on the rum cake!” LOL

Thanks for the recipes! HUGS “

Happy Friday All, and I hope you all have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend! First and foremost, let us remember those who are serving and defending our freedom, and those that have gone before them all the way back to the 1700s! Without their commitment and dedication, we would not be where we are today.

It is a sorry state of affairs that many Americans and the others living in this country think that this day is just for barbeque and beer, and party! Watch this video just to prove how little people really know these days:

Barb, that is one long trip for your Dad. I would even have a hard time doing that! Is he any closer to accepting that things need to change and they must put that part of their life behind them? Good for you having his favorite meal ready and waiting - along with the "icing on the rum cake'! emoticon

Kelly hope the storms were not too bad in your area. We had another doozy on Wednesday night around 7. We were FTiming with DS and GD and it was raining so hard the rain was going sideways! Bad lightning and thunder too a couple of nights this week! Today is sunny thankfully!

Didn't know it was Sunny's birthday, so I will drop by and give her a birthday goodie! Thanks, Kelly! Sunny, if you are reading this, we hope you have a very happy one with your friends and family all around you. How is DH coming along? Hope he is feeling well and able to partake in the birthday and 4th festivities and food, too!

Just cam in from doing some gardening, and am going to rest for a while and then go back out. All my beds are overgrown with weeds with all of this rain!!! The only good thing is that the grass is green!

Check back later for Happy Hour. I'll be posting these on my blog, but you guys get VIP Access - EARLY! Here's a couple of festive drinks for the weekend if you are so inclined:

Watermelon Quenchers

Buy one 3 pound seedless watermelon and scoop out all of the pulp. An ice cram scoop would make quick work of this. Cut a small bit off the top, and carefully scoop pulp out of shell. You can save your watermelon shell, and pour the finished cocktail into it for serving.

Put the watermelon into a blender and puree in about 3 batches. Add the watermelon and puree until smooth. Add 1/3 cup of vodka, and 1/3 of the triple sec, and 1 Tablespoon of Lemon juice to each batch. This will ensure your mixture is uniform.

3 pounds of seedless watermelon pulp
1 cup vodka
1/3 cup triple sec
3 T fresh lemon juice

Red, White, and Blue Sangria

Ingredients:

Strawberries, sliced
Blueberries
Pineapple, cut into star shapes
2 bottles dry white wine
1 cup Triple Sec
1/2 Cup berry-flavored vodka
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup simple syrup

Combine the ingredients in a large pitcher and stir. Chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours.

Finally, have a few minutes to stop by and say Hi to everyone. Hope this is finding everyone well and ready to celebrate the 4th.

So disappointed with all of the happenings in our Country. I refuse to worry but it sure looks like we are going downhill fast. All of the things our country was founded on is now being challenged including our Flag. My heart just aches for everyone who values God, Liberty, Justice, and Freedom.

DH is finally on his way to health. We go back to Columbia this week for a follow up appointment and feel that it will go well. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. We know it is only by the Grace of God that he is where he is today.

Barb, saw where Jason's appointment is today. Praying that all will go well with his surgery.
Keep us posted.

Found out some dear friends of ours will be here at the end of the Month so looking forward to their visit.

Take care and do have an awesome Friday. Wearing my Red!!

Friday: Had a good day yesterday with Mom. She did really will and I am so glad. She did panic when Dad was a little late, but kept her relatively calm.

The puzzle we worked on yesterday was an epic fail! Oh my gosh. Don’t know what Dad was thinking when he got it, but anyhow, I don’t think Mom will be finishing it.

We worked on altering some of her slacks. That kept us out of trouble for quite a while!

Today I am planning on some “chillaxing time”. Have things to do, but going to make time to just read a little and relax.

Mom and Dad have a Drs. appt. today for their INR -- blood test to make sure they're dosage of Coumadin is appropriate.

Jason has his surgical appt. @ 1:30 pm. He's nervous. Don't blame him. So am I!

HUGS and here’s to a great Friday.

Kelly: yes! Mom was having a melt down the last ½ hr. before he got home, but kept her pretty calm. She settled down once Dad got home.

He was ready to gnaw the leg off a table! But I was prepared w/his favorite soup, salad and . . . . of course . . . . RUM CAKE! Soothed the hungry beast.

Have fun watching the fire works.

Many extra hugs and prayers for our soldiers, our families and our country. THANK YOU for allowing us to enjoy the freedoms we so enjoy. God bless America. emoticon emoticon

Oh my, that is a long trip for anyone! Bet he slept well last night.

Won't be as hot this week end, but the storms may likely make it wetter than we want. Some of us are going over to the Adventure Science Center to watch the big fireworks show instead of actually getting involved with the downtown crowd. We tried 3 weeks ago to get train tix, they were sold out already and would not put on extra cars. This other place is high enough to watch them and the center is open with scheduled activities so it'll be fun since there will be young ones with us.

Other than that, no big plans. Except for 3 o'clock!

Hugs and extra Prayers for our brave warriors and families, as well as our first responders and our Country! Please Dear God, look over us.

Yes, Dad made a round trip . . . . it's 2 hrs. each way . . . . usually. NOT TODAY. He traveled a total of 5.5 hrs. Exhausted when he got back.

That is great Barb so Mom does so well with puzzles! I don't remember what you had on your agenda today but have a good one.

Welcome back Sharon, wow talk about a whirlwind trip...thanks for sharing it with us AND melting our hearts with Leah and Kellan. Poor little tyke, those toofies can really mess up a good time can't they? Guess Leah takes after Nana with the pool.

The wedding venue is absolutely beautiful. Can't wait for you to show off the grandkids!

What did you get for audio picture books? We are looking for things to entertain our grandson and I am so overwhelmed with all that is available. He is curious about stuff and that just struck me as something he would love. Oh and a public service reminder, before you give an old phone to play with, take the battery out because sooner or later they will call 911 and will have a major melt down when you disable it.

July??? Really??? Hope the weather holds where you are and will see ya at 3!

Howdy Gals! I’m back in the saddle again. As usual, it all was a BLUR! Oh my gosh! It was non-stop activities, and tiring, too. Family is doing fine. Little Leah has changed by leaps and bounds since the end of May! OMG! She “gets stuff” now - how to use words, concepts, - it was a real eye opener! We had fun when DS and GD met us the first night about two-thirds of the way. We arrived at the hotel within 15 minutes of one another, so that was great! It was Leah’s first time staying at a hotel that she could remember. We had connecting rooms, and she just thought that was great! Lots of room to move around, and she could be wherever she wanted to be.

We had a very nice, relaxing dinner at a farm to table restaurant that was an old brick “mansion”, and had a huge veranda across the whole back of the main house with the loveliest pastoral view; fields, mountains, cows, sheep, and Leah loved it. It gave her a chance to burn off some energy looking at things, and going up and down the stairs of the veranda. It was so cute - after dinner she and her dad decided to go “explore”, and on her way down the stairs, she waves, gives us this big smile, and yells “Bye Grandma and Papa! See you later. I’ll be back! I love you!” Then, when she was about four steps down she said to her dad in a very happy voice, “This is my family!” Awww, my heart just melted into this big, ‘ole puddle!

The following day we went the rest of the way, and Leah rode with us. I had bought her three audio picture books with CDs, and some games for the car, and some healthy snacks. When we arrived at the hotel, DS went on to the airport to pick up DIL and our grandson. Our poor “little guy” is teething, and he was not having a good day. None in sight, but gums were inflamed on the front bottom. He has grown so much, and is starting to creep - not quite crawl. He’s not interested in sitting - he wants to move!

We all attended the rehearsal dinner that night which was held at a local barbeque restaurant, and DS and family left early to get kids in bed. They were beyond exhausted from their “adventures”. The “Q” was good.

The wedding was at 6 PM on Saturday at Duke Gardens. We took our granddaughter to the pool after breakfast, and she is becoming quite the little fishy! I bought her a little crab inner tube which she loved playing with and we put her in it, with support of course, and pushed and pulled her through the water. She also loved jumping off the side of the pool into our waiting arms. I had a hard time getting her out of the pool. She just didn’t want to leave! We were there for about 2 hours.

The weather had been hot and rainy and storming on and off for two days. It slowed down to a drizzle as we were all arriving, and everyone had congregated in the building where the reception was to take place. The drizzle stopped, and after “communal consensus of the weather off many phones, they decided to take advantage of a “short break” in the rain to try to hold the ceremony outdoors as planned. It was held in beautiful botanical gardens, and the setting was just beautiful with all of the tropical plants, water features, and everything in bloom.

This isn't an actual picture I took because it was raining, but this shows where the actual ceremony took place.

Here's the entrance to the reception hall:

Again, not my picture. . .

The reception hall:

We were about 10 minutes into the ceremony when it began to lightly rain again, so the minister “cut right to the chase”, and had them exchange their vows and rings, kiss, and then we all rushed back to the building for the reception. Clothes and hair got slightly damp, but not soaking wet - thank goodness. The DJ was good, and there was lots of good dancing - no slow songs! A good time was had by all!

Sunday was a leisurely breakfast, and then check-out, and back to my SIL’s house (the groom’s mom), to catch up with family who were staying another day or so. It’s so nice to spend time with family, and we are all scattered around, so these family events are a good excuse for everyone to try to get together.

Before we knew it, it was time to say good-bye once again. DS and GD left the next morning for home, and we took DIL and GS back to the airport. They all arrived home about the same time, which was nice.

I'll post a picture of Kellan and Leah in my photos on my page in the next day or so.

Off to bed because it's late, and I'm tired. Plus thunder storm! emoticon

Tuesday – good day. I am really finding that going out for my early morning walk is helping me tremendously.

Mom got a few new puzzles, so was busy putting together one of the new ones. She is really good at it.

That’s about all the news that’s fit to print from here.

Kelly: NOPE cannot believe it is the end of June already. Dad’s birthday is today and he’s in a funk. I think reality and mortality are giving him a double-whammy, but going to get them out for a bit of scenery change and see if that helps. **SIGH**

See you @ 3!

Sounds like a busy week Barb. Safe travels for your Dad. Luv strawberries and spinach too! Some feta, walnuts and balsamic helps it along.

Well, overnight my computer decided its modem wasn't current enough for it, so threw it off line. Really, no warning, nothing. Called comcast, after being told it was not compatible, etc, that they did upgrades and you for sure most have been notified, no, all I get from you all is a bill that keeps going higher. Anyway, while trying to go through the options, got disconnected, called back happened again, third time was a charm because I actually got someone with a British accent! Ended up running down the road picked up a new modem, router combo and got it set up - ALL by myself! Well, it wouldn't activate but a nice kid got that done. Now I have to call them back because if I take the umbilical cord off, I am not wifi.
Good that came out of it, I went to my fav shop to use their wifi so I could get a good number to call Comcast to find out what the H was wrong, had a nice visit with a gal I don't see often.

Sunny, hope your town is dry and all is well. Sharon, safe travels.

Oh my, just now thunder right over us, shook the house. No lightening yet. So good night, see ya in the AM!

Monday – another really beautiful day. Didn’t get to relax a lot, but supper was easy-peasy. Had hamburgers, Mom wanted French Fries, and corn on the cob. I had my spinach salad. That is oh so good w/strawberries.

Otherwise, it’s the beginning of a busy week. Wednesday dental appointment, Thursday Dad is going to IL so I’ll have Mom, and Friday Jason sees the surgeon. So, better get my sleep NOW.

Have a good Monday.

Seems there is a saying about rain and the bride and it being good luck! What a great weekend though, damp clothes and all.

I'm sure your folks enjoyed being out a lot.

Muggy when the sun was out yesterday, great temps though Yeah. Our little venture had lots of excitement. We had two pups escape from their yard, and the chase began, danged little terrier could sure fly, the lab decided she would opt out for a car ride. However, I had a real scare! We had an add on request to drop supplies off. Told the woman we'd be there in 5 minutes, she didn't wait called her, she told us she'd be back in 10. Well, she wasn't so we decided to leave stuff (food, etc). We knew she had an aggressive dog and since she did not bark when we pulled into the alley we assumed she was inside. Big mistake and one I will keep in the front of my mind's rolodex forever. I planned on only going so far to drop it (not up to the house), as I started to put it down I saw her in her dog house, without warning out she came! Good thing I have a long stride, her lead was not longer, because she would have got me in the arse (I want to lose a few inches there but not that way). My fear was she would continue dragging her dog house. Sad thing is, she is a pittie and very young momma with a couple of 3 month old pups. She is too young to be that aggressive on her own, so we are reporting it to keep an eye on the situation. This gal pulled up as we were leaving, she is beyond description and attitude. I don't want to judge on appearance (piercings, tats, etc) but her 'tude takes her off my list. We were laughing trying to find our way in, that if we hear banjo music we are outta there! Sad thing, that neighborhood way back when must have been so nice and to see it so run down is heartbreaking. The neighbor that gave us the right alley to go down to get to her place was an old man that we would have loved to have spent more time with, we offered him some of our stash but he didn't have any animals. We are giving his name to a group maybe they can help him fix his front porch. Oh, and we were to do a wellness check at a house that I had been to before with a different team and it was not pleasant then, there was a party going on and it was obvious we would not be welcome if we didn't turn around and just keep going. Normally, there are more than just two people but our group left us for another project.

Another great day weather wise. Hope the water levels are going down where you are Sunny and everyone else is fine. Prayers going out to the families of those lost 10 years ago in Operation RedWings. Please dear God wake this country up, there are bigger things going on in this world.

Needless to say, I needed a good dose of sumthin when I got home! All I had was Irish whiskey so that had to do, wasn't making a special trip.

Quick check-in. Very hot, humid, and rain here. Rushed wedding outside to beat the rain - a brief break of 20 minutes between bands of rain. However still sat through light rain shower for ceremony so damp clothes all night. Our little ones were troopers!

Trip down was good. No rain and we arrived at hotel to meet DS and GD within about 15 minutes of one another. Had dinner at a farm to table restaurant out on the veranda. It was good; got up yesterday, and drove the rest of the way. Its been a whirlwind since we got here - so much so that I broke my 700+ day log- in streak! emoticon
Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

Mother Nature threw several tantrums throughout the night, right now it is cloudy and I think the index isn't supposed to be as high today, maybe wishful thinking? Our group is doing another help some of the unsheltered fourleggers today, the last thing we need are 100+ temps.

That's it from this end, will likely miss the Klatch but will definitely treat myself to sumthin when I get home, maybe pick up the makins for a Cherry Bomb? We'll see how tired I am when I go past the package store.

Here's to a bright sun shiny day for the bride and groom, Sharon.

And a relaxing weekend for you Barb!

Happy Saturday! Just a quick check in. Hope you can relax!

Saturday – Quiet Friday. Next week will be busy, busy, busy, so hope to relax a little this weekend.

It was so pleasant out yesterday in the afternoon (once the fog lifted and the sun came out). Did some yard work and that felt good.

Have a good weekend.

Thursday – Dad continues to improve. More energy today. Still encouraging lots of liquids.

Have some chores to do today w/my parents, so it will be a busy day, but got some sparking and my outside walk in earlier. PHEW

Kelly: Dad is much better. Still has a bit of a cough, but much better. Pushing him to drink and use the vaporizer!

Yes, definitely the weather gods need to lighten up on the storms!

Sharon: didn’t think of Gatorade. Will have to try some for him. Thank you!

Travel safely!!!

Good Morrrning. Ladies! Quick check-in. Last minute preparations, and loading car. Son and Leah are on their way. Will meet them tonight and go rest of way tomorrow.
Barb, glad your Dad is improving! How about some Gatorade for electrolytes? Maybe will help with the fatigue?

Kelly concert sounds like fun. How neat to have someone so talented living next door. Maybe this will be her "springboard" into the limelight. Wouldn't that be something?!

Got to run, will check in as I can, and hope you all can manage without me emoticon emoticon ! Love you guys!

Enough with the storm tantrums Mother Nature. We have dodged major bullets with the storms, but the heat index dropped yesterday but will be back up there in triple digits. Last night was really nice so a neighbors' daughter decided to have a rehearsal concert in the driveway and invited da hood! Many came, what was so nice were the families with toddlers that came. We also had a baby skunk off in the distance enjoying it! This young lady is no bigger than a minute but has a powerhouse of a voice and is getting ready to go on a USO tour in Japan for 10 days, felt she needed some audience time.

Safe travels, looks like a great way to break those new wheels in! May the weather break for the wedding (not wet and sizzle) and we will catch up when you get back Sharon.

Hope Dad is all better and your Mom is doing well Barb. Actually how are you doing? Actually, that rum cake just ran through my mind, yummmm.

Gosh, Thursday already! Have a good one, stay cool and hydrated.

Hugs and Prayers for our brave warriors, their families and our Country.

We had the same thing last Thursday when we went to meet DS for dinner, only hit further north and not so close to home. This has been a very rainy and stormy June for us.

Will check back in tomorrow morning if I have time. Sleep well, and pleasant dreams!

Hi All! BAD storms moved through here for about 2 hours last night. So many downed trees and power lines that getting to where I had to go today was an absolute nightmare! Tried 4 different routes until I found one. Road blocks, traffic lights out, sheesh! Took me 3 times the normal time to get there.

Going to be inactive and maybe off for several days. Heading out to a family wedding. Not sure if I'll have access to a computer, and the mobile app, and iphone are such a PITA to try to do much on. So if I'm MIA you'll know why and won't have to send out the shore patrol.

Nicer day today after the mayhem of last night - lower humidity and in the 80s! Woo Hoo!

Hope your Dad is doing better Barb.

I'll try to check in again later before hitting the sack.

Another scorcher today, had quite a lightening show over night. Guess one advantage with Mooch being deaf, the thunder didn't bother her, I'm convinced that with the lightening they feel a charge in their fur because when that started she was in a corner but it barely bothered her. The cat wasn't too thrilled though.

Take it your Dad is improving, I found last year getting to the Doc early with respiratory was so much easier, only took me 70 years to figure that out.

Well, guess I'd better get my grocery list together and hit the stores. Stay cool and hydrate!

Tuesday – much better day for Dad. Much improved by yesterday evening. Still using an oral decongestant and the steam vaporizer w/VicksVapoRub. Making him drink lots of fluids. At least he’s cooperating w/that.

Storms blew thru yesterday, but today is a calmer, cooler day. That’s all right w/me.

That is good news on your Dad Barb.

We had storms to the west of us yesterday afternoon, it got really windy and cloudy here but nothing else. Breezy this morning, had the back door open for a bit just for fresh air but it is going to be another scorcher.

Quiet day for me today, see youse all at 3! Oh by the way, I have decided coconut milk doesn't cut it for me for anything cocoa. Sharon thanks for the frapp recipe, who knew it was that simple?

Hugs and Prayers all around.

Kelly: OH yes, that was my brothers' excuse for "testing" the cookie dough, or the finished cookie for that matter. . . . to make sure it wasn't poison! LOLOL

Got Dad to take some Mucinex. And my steam humidifier. He is MUCH better now this afternoon and much less congested. So, the Dr. said just see what he's like tomorrow, and then if no improvement . . . . in he goes. Dad agreed to that. I got him to rest a little bit, too. He even let Nurse Nancy here take his temperature! Normal. THAT was a relief. He wouldn't let me take it yesterday. Plying him with liquids. Water, tea, coffee, and whatever else he'll drink. He like 7-UP, so he's had some of that too. Fortunately he's not a huge pop drinker.

Had storms roll thru here earlier and supposed to again. LOUD!

Barb, hope you got your Dad checked out and it is nothing more than beginning a summer cold.

Hope everyone had a great day celebrating Dad, hubbies and sons.

Laughing at all of your stories about testing that "poison" haha...nowadays we'd all be in trouble for publicly admitting we do that.

Wow Sharon, those were some storms, they are nerve wracking at night for sure. Fortunately nothing here. Heat index to 105+ today and throughout the week.

Sunny how's the patient? How are you?

That's it from this end, see you all in bit with some frozen hot cocoa, plain, have a meeting.

Monday – Worried about Dad. Has an upper respiratory thing going on. Am insisting that he go to the Dr. He does not want to. But I am going to win this one. Have a call into the Dr. ofc. And await a call back.

Expecting storms to blow thru here today, so got everything outside stowed. It's gorgeous out right now so got my walk in. Yeah!

Dad reminded me of my brothers’ when I made cookies. Had to check the batter to make sure it wasn’t “poison” (their words) and by the time they were done tasting ½ the dough was gone . . . . LOL. Have to laugh because you’re right on about Dad being all over that timer. Barely could be patient for the cake to cool!

Have the Mocha Frappucino on my list to try! YUMMO

Have a wonderful Father’s Day and hugs to your DH.

Last night was reeeal interesting here. . . 2 tornado alerts and bad storms from about 7PM until about midnight! We both had our weather apps on our phones going non-stop! Thankfully, nothing bad. Whew! Glad it's over. Woke up to a very bright and beautiful sunny day. Going to be a hot one here today though.

I'm adding my Happy Father's Day to all our fabulous hubbies and Dads, too!

I'm with Kelly Barb, I'll bet your dad was just hanging over your shoulder the whole time you were make that cake! I'll bet he was checking the oven timer every couple of minutes, too! Kinda reminds me of the Christmas poem while making the fruitcake, and having to taste the rum to make sure it is worthy of adding to the fruitcake.

Sunny, hope you and Ric, and family have a quiet, but very happy father's day celebration.

Came up with a great faux Mocha Frappucino recipe to drink now that the mornings are much warmer. Here's the recipe if you'd like to try it:

I did the calculations today, and added to my favorites. I'm surprised how "healthy" this turned out to be! Now I can enjoy it guilt free!

Have a great day everyone! Hugs and Prayers all around for our dads, sons, and our families.

Catch ya later!

glad Rich is recuperating well! With a TEN for a nurse, how could he NOT, right!?!

Ah yes, the making of the rum cake was supervised and scrutinized very carefully by the Father Unit . . . . replete with tasting! LOLOL Told him we had to have enough batter to make the cake!

Happy Father's Day to all you fabulous hubbies and Dads, you helped raise some fabulous kids and grandkids.

Okay Barb, how much trouble did you have keeping Dad out of the rum cake while you were making it?

Continued great recovery for Rich.

I saved that Bomb of a recipe, thanks for resharing it! And yes, coffee is best when sipped with friends. Even more so laced with a little sumthin sumthin...

Have a great day everyone! Hugs and Prayers all around.

Had a few light rains yesterday, kinda muggy this morning but there are breezes.

Sunny: Hope your DH is feeling better and you can have a special Father's Day.

Kelly: HUGS!

Snnday – Father’s Day. Dad is a happy camper. RUM CAKE! LOL

Got out for an early walk and that is a real help in keeping the brains from scrambling . . . . more than they already are sometimes!

Not much happening here - rain and thundering again! Sitting here sipping on one of my Bourbon Cherry Smashes. LOVE THIS DRINK!

2 oz Bourbon of your choice (I'm using Benchmark Old N. 8)
1 oz Cointreau
1 oz St Germaine
1 1/2 oz 100% Cherry Juice (I'm using Red Jacket Cherry Juice)
A quick little squeeze of lemon juice

Put all together in a glass with ice, and stir to combine. How easy is that?

Sunny glad to hear DH is home and improving. Kelly's idea of the Memory Foam mattress topper is a great idea. If you buy a 2 inch cut 2 pieces to fit and duct tape them together. Don't forget to make some time for a little R & R for yourself.

Barb, good news about Mom. Keeping Jason in my prayers too.

Had "Breakfast with Leah" this morning again! She is so cute - showing us the Play Dough snake with 2 eyes she made. And telling us what she was eating, and loves putting a dab of butter from her toast on her finger and putting it in her mouth . . .

Glad you liked the Friday blog this week. I thought it was pretty funny.

Have an enjoyable evening tonight y'all. Will probably watch a movie.

Well Sunny, we always knew you were a 10!!! Just a suggestion with the recliner, maybe get a piece of that mattress type foam cover cut to fit the recliner, it might make it a bit more comfy. I wish I had thought of it sooner with hubs, I never sat in it before and it is a bit uncomfortable and I have a lot more self padding than he ever had. Those recliners can be a best friend though. Continued hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery and that you stay on top of your game…don't let yourself get run down.

Meanwhile, it is great to have you back!

Wow Sharon, we had something like that blow through here about 5:30, didn't last long and didn't create quite the havoc you all got. Isn't that always the case, when you want to have every extra minute to visit all H breaks loose? Where you in the car with the new wheels, really gave them a break in if so. At least you got some time with him. I'm sure a little sumthin was much appreciated. I like the idea of mixing lemon and lime for a simple syrup and will give your cocktail a try soon. Oh, I loved the orzo dish, so happy there are left overs. I'm wondering if that would work for porcupine balls? Never thought to use tomato soup for gravy, interesting and simple for sure.

The Farmers Market nearly lost a few booth canopies (25# weights on each corner wasn't enough, I think it was because they didn't have the vented tops). Some poor family had a neighbors tree take the electrical box off their house, causing a minor fire in the kitchen and garage.

It is cloudy and really, really cool this morning. Got the back door open, pup and cat are enjoying the breeze. I hope the weather holds for the group of bikers headed down toward Chattanooga (about 100 miles or so down the road a bit, maybe longer since they like to take the back roads). They went to a local Jewish Community Center yesterday that, from the pictures has an awesome Holocaust Memorial. Wish I had gone and I had no idea it was there. (Couldn't, had to have a blood draw) I'm going to wonder over there some day.

Check in later, off to read your Friday Fun Blast, then off to a group breakfast at the Marriott, hello cheese blintzes and lots of lox. Meanwhile, have a good one!

Kelly

Saturday – Yesterday was a perfect weather day – sunny, breezy, a bit cool, but gorgeous. Got an outside walk in early in the morning, and that was awesome.

Mom had a good day. We worked on her puzzles together, look @ albums. Even she took a short walk outside!

Jason is set to see the surgeon on 03 July, then the surgical date will be set. OY

Have a great weekend.

Sharon: Oh no! Sorry that your dinner plans turned into dine and dash! Glad you at least got some time w/your son.

DELICIOUS – will be repeating that cocktail soon!

Sunny: Hugs and hope DH continues to improve.

Kelly: Hope all is well.

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers, families and our country

Sunny, emoticon and we have emoticon ! Glad to read that DH and you are home, and that he is doing better. We have the prayer chain going on for you both!
Good thing you have all that nursing background! emoticon on getting the "10" for your wound dressing!

Well, as I said, I'd detail the dinner last night with DS. We left about an hour before time to meet him - allowing plenty of time for rush hour traffic. About a minute after we left, it began to rain, and things rapidly went downhill from there. Deluge of rain and wind the entire way, and not only that but branches, leaves, and some trees down, and traffic snarled no matter which way you tried to go due to traffic lights not working! Took us 2 hours for what is no more than a 30 minute drive! He got stuck in it too as it was area wide. So our nice, leisurely, dinner turned out to be an eat and run affair!

What did you think of the Happy Hour drink? It was great and very refreshing, too!

Hope you all have a wonderful night and sweet dreams! emoticon

Sunny: For sure, something about not being able to sleep in bed and affects of anesthesia and the sleep dep from being in hospital all adds up to day and night confusion. You're right, though, good that he rests when he needs to!

Thanks for the nice welcome back.

Rich has his days and nights mixed up. He sleeps all day then is awake at night. I would imagine it will be different once he can sleep in the bed. He has been sleeping in the recliner as he can't use the c pap right now so can lay down flat. He sleeps when he can and it's OK with me.

Keep me posted on the surgery. I will see you all tomorrow.

Dear, sweet, Nurse Sunny: Yeah for getting a 10 on the packing and dressing! Kudos. I am so glad he's getting stronger.

Prayers for sure. For BOTH of you.

I am not sure when Jason will have the surgery yet. He sees the surgeon on 03 July. I suspect it won't be long after that visit. Then I'll be a REALLY Busy nurse Barb!

Hello my sweet friends. I have missed you all so but know you understand my absence. DH is doing amazing. He came home on tube feedings so Nurse Sunny is busy these days. hehehe
I have got the feedings down pretty good now and must admit, I'd rather fix him some Halibut or a nice Rib eye. He is getting stronger every day. Home health comes to see him every day and today they checked the wound. Nurse Sunny got a 10 for the packing and dressing. Yea! Doctor's office called yesterday and we will have a follow up appointment in Columbia next Thursday. Hopefully, they will be able to remove the NG tube and he can begin to eat soft foods. It is going to be a process for sure. All in all, we are thankful to be home and thankful for the all of the prayers that have been lifted up on DH's behalf.

I have not gotten back to exercise but feel I am getting plenty in the way of the "Nursing". Seems like there is always something to be done.

Barb, Jason has to have hernia surgery. When will he have this done. Do let me know so I can pray.

I must confess that I need to read the posts so don't be surprised if I show back up again with questions.

Take care and know I love you all. It is good to be back.

Hugs, Sunny

Sharon: Make mine a DOUBLE and we're good to go! That sounds DELISH!!!

Yes, well, Jason does had to wrap his head around the nugget that he WILL NEED TIME TO RECUPERATE! I believe he can work from home so we'll see how those arrangements go. Fortunately, laparoscopic surgery has a much shorter recuperation time and the pain is less, too.

Oh no, Barb, so very sorry to hear this! emoticon We had a neighbor that had that and you are right - no fun, and long recoup time! Does Jason have short term disability insurance? Maybe that might help out if he does.

So glad Mr. Spot is improving! Gald to hear you all loved the Orzo! Now you can see why it is one of my tried and true survival summer side dishes!

Dinner was short, and I'll detail later.

Here's today's Happy Hour recipe gals! It's going to be another hot one so here's something to cool us off! Tried and true - one of the most popular at Epcot. In keeping with my monthly lemonade theme:

Grey Goose Citron Lemonade Slush

2 parts Grey Goose Citron (or other) citrus vodka
2 parts sweet and sour mix
1 part simple syrup
Blend with ice

*** I'm going to make with Ketel One Citron Vodka because I love it, have it, and I think it will just enhance the lemon flavor.****

Here's a recipe to make your own Sweet and Sour Mix

Sweet-and-Sour Mix
This handy mixture can replace the fresh-citrus-juice-plus-simple-syrup combination many recipes call for. Simply substitute an equivalent measure of this mix, which keeps in the refrigerator for about 10 days. Note that substituting this mix will alter the flavor of recipes calling solely for lemon juice or lime juice, since the mix contains both.

Ingredients:
3 fl. oz. fresh lime juice
3 fl. oz. fresh lemon juice
2 fl. oz. simple syrup

Pour the lime juice, lemon juice and simple syrup into a clean, resealable 12-fl.-oz. bottle. Shake well, seal and refrigerate. Makes 1 cup.
This suits this recipe just fine!

See you all later for Happy Hour! Cheers! emoticon

Sunny, hope you guys are staying fairly dry and hubs is doing well.

Kelly: We start the "mix and match doggie food" tomorrow. Yes, Mr. Spot is totally bummed that he doesn't have his food where he can get @ it 24/7. Poor guy. The two 1/2 cup feeds every 12 hrs. just isn't quite cutting it for him, but at least today will be the last of it as he's returned to almost normal. Normal you say??? Is there such a thing? NOPE . . . . not here anyway!

Sharon: Hope your dinner was good.

Sunny: HUGS and hope all is improving in your house.
Friday – well Jason does have to have surgery to repair a hernia. **SIGH** It just doesn’t seem to stop, but I know he’ll be all right. He had one about 18 yrs. Ago. Not fun.

Mr. Spot is much improved, thankfully. PHEW.

Oh no, have they scheduled it yet Barb? Lousy way to take a few days off.

Happy Dance Mr. Spot is improving! We start mixing the homemade chow with dry, transition seemed to go better. Our poor pup can't figure out what is wrong and she is so bummed.

How was dinner last night Sharon? Probably could have been dogs and burgers on a bench and it would have been fine.

Didn't get a whole lot of wet stuff last night, maybe tonight but it doesn't feel quite so muggy. Missed the outdoor concert last night, friends in town invited me to stay for their group dinner.

Sunny, hope you guys are staying fairly dry and hubs is doing well.

Sharon: Yes, Mr. Spot is not going to be a happy boy to go back to his dry kibble. UGH.

That's how my Grandma prepared porcupine balls -- with tomato sauce. Mom used tomato soup. Like the sauce better. That's exactly right. . . exactly like what you would stuff a cabbage leaf with but don't have that fuss and muss! Delish.

Dad, Jason and I LOVE that orzo. Mom . . .. well . . . she didn't, but not surprised. Kind of a fussy eater, but that's all right. confession time . . . . I had some for breakfast! LOLOL

Well got the new tires, and they are quiet and smooooth!

Glad to hear Mr. Spot and mom are doing better today, Barb! Hope your Dad is doing okay today, too.

My little dogs loved that rice and ground meat diet. It was like gourmet food to them! My mom, too, used to make the porcupine balls, and cooked them in tomato sauce or soup, I'm not sure. We all liked them as they were like stuffed cabbage rolls without the cabbage.

By the way, did you make the Orzo with Everything yet? Still got some left in Tupperware, and it just keeps getting more flavorful!

Another hot and humid one here today, although this AM was kind of nice and lower humidity. I am hearing rumblings of thunder.

Didn't have my sumthin sumthin with y'all at 3, but will definitely do one with DS and hubby at dinner. Almost time to leave to meet him! Have a good evening!

Thursday – Fortunately both Spot and Mom had better days today. Mr.
Spot is not happy that he cannot have his regular kibble, but soon enough.

Got to bed early and that helped chase away the “TIREDS”.

Shucks. Jason has to go to the Dr. Thinks he has another hernia – SPARE ME!

One day at a time – and moving ahead prayerfully.

Sharon: Enjoy your dinner w/your DS!

OUCH on 4 newbie tires. UGH

YES! Mom used to make porcupine balls Maybe I should resurrect that dish for us humanoids!

Thankfully Mom is lots better today. Woke up with a smile.

Ok, is it 3 yet??????

Wow Sharon, dinner deuce with the kiddo! Much as you want to hear about the little ones, and they like to brag about but sometimes it helps to make it about them. Enjoy...

Watch out on those new tires, they seem to make the wheels go faster, haha.

Hope Mr. Spot continues to do well. My pups have always liked the meat and rice deal. Remember porcupine balls, even made it that way and gave as snacks. Hmmm throw back Thursday meal plan for the four legger and me.

Your Dad will likely be on the fence, then off then back on, it is not easy but it is good to hear that he is being a bit more receptive. How is your Mom today?

I'm thinking I want to know if there is anything else wrong that would cause her deafness so quickly. This vet from this practice has a history of blowing things off (why they keep her, who knows) I may ask for a revisit. Poor pup just doesn't understand what has happened.

Anyway, hot as hadies again today, may get some storms blow through later. House stayed at 78 overnight, rarely ever does that.

Will have a basic frozen hot cocoa with all y'all but will raise a glass later with friends. Meanwhile, have a good day!

Sharon: Hope you had dinner with your DS!

Spot was much better in the evening so we'll see how it goes. Have to monitor him closely.

Dad -- I think he's getting the picture that he is independent but right now has to give up a little of that to have help caring for mom. just letting it sink in a little.

Oh guys, prayers for your little four legged babies. . . Hope things improve for Mooch and Mr. Spot. Sorry to hear your mom had a confusing day today. How's Dad, Barb? Any positive signals that he may have put the condo behind him?

Sunny hope you and DH are doing well. Still praying . . .

Got to have dinner with DS tonight. He flew in last night, and asked if we were free for dinner tonight? It was great! He looks good and sounds like thing are going well. Didn't hear much about the kiddos though. We concentrated mostly on him and I think he enjoyed telling us about it.

Hope you all sleep well tonight.

Kelly: Glad all turned out well for her! I gave Mr. Spot the 2nd portion of his nutrition tonight and he really ate it all up! So, have to continue to keep an eye on him.

Good that Mr. Spot is gulping...keep it up!

Thanks, her ears are clear (had one nasty ear while in boarding but clear now), they think it is age related (but she's only 12), we'll keep an eye because even her appetite is a bit off (first clue was her sharing her chow with the cat), assuming it is because of the heat. She had a NSV although not really down any weight, she managed to fit through the console area from the back seat to the front and I had to take her lead off because it was too big, good thing I carry spare leashes with me. (Imagine a bulldog in a beagle's body, that is Mooch but not why we named her that)

Off to the store, will be back then will partake in some libation of the iced nature!

Kelly: Oh no! Hope Mooch is all right!

Mr. Spot is somewhat better this morning. He definitely gulped down his hamburger and rice meal. Kept it down so that's also a good sign.

Oh boy, we have to keep track of our fur babies!

Sunny: You're in our thoughts and prayers.

What's that song, get along with a little help from a friend? Sharon, I'm sure spending some time away from it all helped quite a bit.

Whoa, how is Mr. Spot today? I bet you could use sumthin right about now! Actually, mine will have to wait because I'm getting ready to head on over to the vet with Mooch, seems she has since this week end lost her hearing! I noticed it this week end and it is obvious that it is significant. So see ya in a bit!
