That's kids for you. :)
Good thing you're an understanding Mom Shelley.
Ha Ha Ha .... I know, it's always nice to hear from
them.
That happens to a lot of us.
The further they deploy, the more often we hear from them. And then, when they're back home, they "disappear" with their buddies.
GOD LOVE 'EM!!

Heard from my soldier in the sandbox. I hear more from him than my Marine who is stateside! LOL I want to hear from him, too! We hope to make a trip to visit before he and his wife go to PDSs in two different states in August.

Thanks for letting us know! Do you still have Debbie WinE's email address to also let her know?
If not, then tell me & I'll give it to you again.
She always likes to hear that the vests have arrived safely to their destination.

WOW! I'm surprised how FAST that was.
Hopefully it will work & be at least a little bit helpful - - - I've never actually talked to any Soldier or Marine who's worn one.

Keeping your son in daily prayers!!!

GDubbs just recently received his vest... unfortunately, they've had him on some strange hours and missions so I haven't heard much about it yet! He's only checked in to let me know "he's ok... got the vest... sorry mom weird hours."

Angela . . . we're all praying for him & also praying that the Vest arrives quickly and without any problems! According to Debi's most recent email it takes several weeks for the Vests to be delivered. At least it should get there b-4 the worst heat of the season (July-August-September).

PRAYERS for everyone else's loved ones too!!! (whether deployed or working hard at U.S. bases)

Good news Teamies, I "found" Lyzette Terman's email address this morning "buried" under about 126 emails of mine. (hard to get to all of them with the back pain cutting into computer time lately).
She's fine & her husband & friend are also eagerly waiting for their Cooling Vests. Please say special prayers for her. She's an Army wife at home caring for 4 young children. It must be very tough!

I am still int total awe of Deb's efforts and the fact that my son will be blessed with a vest! Every time I have contact with him I remind him to let us know when the vests arrive. Hope I'm not making the wait and anticipation any worse for the poor kid. I am just so excited for him to have one of these cuz he's just feeling so miserable doing his "foot" missions in the heat with all that gear on.

Thanks Sunny!

If we don't find her, I'm pretty sure she will eventually email me when the Vests get delivered ... and at that time I will be able to have her contact Debi WinE. It just would be better now if she could do it & thank Debi again for ordering them.

It's such a blessing because those Vests cost over $200 each . . . . so it's a wonderful thing for the Foundation to be covering expenses. Debi said she & the Foundation would continue doing that until the Foundation runs out of money - - or the wars end .... whichever happens first.

URGENT - IMPORTANT FAVOR -

Hello. I need your help Blue Star Moms AND Wives!!

A few weeks ago a Lyzette Terman wrote to me about ordering 2 Cooling Vests (one for her husband & the other for his good friend, both of which deployed last week, I think).

I ordered the Cooling Vests from Debi WinE but have accidentally deleted Lyzette Terman's email address and I don't remember her SPARK NAME???

CAN SOMEONE who might know her PLEASE send me a SparkMail to let me know how I can get in touch with her to let her know the Vests have been ordered AND ALSO that Debi WinE would like to be told when the Vests are received.

THANK YOU!!!

Yes, Sunny, it is amazing how Debi WinE has turned this horrendous loss into something beautiful and helpful.
So many Gold Star Moms do wonderful things for others and it helps blunt their grief somewhat. Of course none of them ever gets "over it" but at least they find a reason to keep on living. GOD BLESS THE THOUSANDS OF GOLD STAR MOTHERS & WIVES!!!!

This is great. I too went to the website. What an awesome thing this Mom has done in memory. What amazes me is that something so positive came out of something so very sad. This woman has amazing strength.

Thank you again for posting that link. And no, I don't think it's something you get used to. For me the second deployment was harder than the first. You just learn how to cope better and you find ways to get support (like our team!).

Margrit, I just received my son's address today. I emailed Debi WinE directly. Thank you for sharing this information with us. It is an incredible project, and their Memorial Day Challenge was a workout challenge. The photos on the flyer at the website are inspiring!

You're welcome.
I wish I had lots of $$ so I could donate a big chunk to this worthy Foundation and help a lot more of our Troops.
As the summer months gets closer, my heart sinks whenever I think of how HOT it gets over there - - and how much gear those guys have to wear!

No matter how many times my future son-in-law & daughter try to tell me, "Mom, you get used to it after a while," .... somehow I find that hard to believe!

God Bless Gold Star Mom Debi WinE and may her Foundation prosper so that many more of our Troops will get these cooling vests.

Here is that web link again for any new members that may not have seen it before: www.trevorwine.com/

If any of the Blue Star Moms belong to other Military Spark Teams, please pass this web link & information on that those teams as well.

Ladies, please do take a moment to visit the memorial website for Trevor Win'E. It is a beautiful site, the story about Deb, his mom, and her mission of sending cooling vests to the deployed troops is just unbelievable.

Covert Threads can be ordered online at:

My son got his Under Armor socks on base, but google "Under Armor socks" and look for Under Armor Heatgear Cushion Boot Tactical Socks.

I am awaiting confirmation of my son's address. The vests sound helpful. Thanks for sharing.

For socks, I a favorite I hear about with Marines is Covert Threads. Their "Sand" sock is designed for use in the sandbox. Before my Army son deployed, he mentioned he really likes the Under Armor tactical socks.

Socks are very much in demand over there as they get sweaty and nasty lol. My son was always asking for undershirts as well. I always sent him a lot of the packaged tuna-he was always wanting protein. And they use lots of baby wipes (the travel size ones are good) and hand sanitizer. If your soldier has any females in his company, they welcome feminine touches like nail polish, lotions and nice soap.

You're so right . . . Military Moms CAN Move Mountains - - that's the power of LOVE! emoticon

--- Now, if I could only figure out how to move a muzzle over my mouth so I wouldn't eat so much, I could loose even more weight than I already have.
ha ha ha LORD, PLEASE HELP ME emoticon

There are so many nice people on our Spark Teams ... and in general, military Moms are some of the nicest women you'll ever meet. They're strong, they're committed to their kids and their country, and they have a lot of love to share. That's probably why they were able to raise SUCH WONDERFUL KIDS!!!!!

I already forwarded one request to Debi WinE for a cooling vest - - if any of the other Moms (or wives, girlfriends, etc.) want to get one for their deployed loved ones, please either email me directly with the information or email Debi WinE direct and she will add the name to the list.

Hugs to all our Team Members!

We are going to finish shopping for our Soldier (nephew of a nurse I work with) tomorrow so headed to Wal-Mart to pick up a couple of those fans and some batteries. We are also sending beef jerkey, a book/book light and some new socks. I don't know why the socks - just seemed like a good idea.

Any other ideas? Help.

Thanks so much, Angela/Margrit and everyone else who has posted on this page.

A MILLION THANK YOUs Margarit!!!! My email to you is on it's way. I hope you don't mind that I shared the info with my spark buddy, AWOODRUFF, who's husband is one of my son's battle buddies.

Also, wanted to report back on what I came up with from my trip to WalMart. I picked up a small fan that can be battery operated (or use with an AC adapter) and a spray bottle that has a small battery operated fan. Of course I assumed they would get used ALLOT so I also picked up plenty of D and AA batteries.

Hooah girls for all the great interaction and ideas! Military moms can move mountains!

What a fantastic thread! I love the idea of cooling vests. I also love the idea of a beach party box. I'm going to pass that idea along to my blue star chapter. The only thing is we have to do more fundraising before we can send more boxes, sigh. We sent a lot of fun things for Valentine's and St. Patrick's Day.
For you new blue star moms- it gets very HOT over in the sandbox- around 130 degrees. Remember when you are sending your packages not to include anything that will melt- including chocolate. Individual powdered drink mixes are a good thing to send.

You're welcome Sunny.

I have great news Moms!

Trevor's Mom - Debi - quickly answered my email and here is what she said about getting the cooling vests:

"Margrit,
Thank you for the very precious words you have shared. God is extremely good to our family and has, and will continue to be, our comfort and strength. Yet sometimes it is hard to be without Trevor.
As far as the vests go, we are still sending them over to our troops. What I need from each of you is a mailing address, t-shirt size and branch of the military. They are free to deployed soldiers. We are doing a fundraiser with the Fire Dept on Memorial Day so we should have some additional funds. Do you know how many vests you would need? The vests take about 3 wks to get there.
God bless you and your wonderful children!
Debi"

That was so sweet of her to answer my email quickly like she did.

So Moms, those of you who are the most worried about your Soldier's (or Marines) suffering overseas - - - PLEASE EITHER give me the information .... OR .... email Debi Win'E directly with it.

You can tell her you are responding to
her email to me (Margrit) etc.....

The faster you get the info. to us, the faster Debi can have her Foundation send out the vests.

What she did, a few years ago after her son died ... and the cooling vest she had ordered for him arrived too late, just after he had died from the IED - - she set up a Foundation in his honor and has done fund raising so that the cooling vests can be sent free of charge to those Troops who need them.

God Bless her!!!!
God Bless EACH of our wonderful, much-loved Sons and Daughters who are serving overseas right now as the temperatures are climbing to fierce levels.

If you want to email me directly about this, here is my personal email address:
margritmorin@msn.com

May the Lord Bless Debi and her wonderful foundation that continues to honor the memory of her son, Trevor. May those Troops who need these cooling vests receive them as soon as possible. AMEN

You know what Moms - - - just to make sure the link worked, I clicked on it and it did bring me to Trevor's website. However, aside from some of the Comments left on the website, I could not find anything there about buying these vests.

So ... I sent Trevor's Mom (Debi) an email asking her if she could let me/us know where we could buy the cooling vests directly.
At one point she was raising funds and sending vests but I think she probably just sends people the direct weblink and they can purchase them from the manufacturers now.

I will let you know if I hear anything back from her.
Hopefully she will write SOON so those who need to can quickly buy the vests for their loved ones overseas.

Hello Nancy and Hello to all our other dear Blue Star Moms!! emoticon

Here is a link where you can buy COOLING VESTS for the Troops. This site was set up by a sweet Gold Star Mom in honor of her Son, Trevor, who was killed in the War. www.trevorwine.com/

I have never heard anything negative said about this website. I hope this helps!!!

As we celebrate the Memorial Day Holiday, may the Lord Bless Our Brave Troops, especially those who have GIVEN THEIR ALL for our Country and the freedoms we enjoy. May the Military Families also be blessed, encouraged and supported by the Lord and His mighty Angels.

My son just arrived in the sandbox. I do not have an APO box for him yet. I was told to send Anti Monkey Butt Powder - it is sold at Walmart. I think the beach box is a great Idea. I am going to do that, too. I am trying to send my son his birthday gift which is today, but still waiting for APO address. Where can I buy the helmet coolers- i am not a person who sews?

Learning to let go is hard, but it gets easier. I am not getting older just better!

Hey moms...

Don't know about you all but I've been hearing allot from my soldier about the unbelievable temps right now over in the middle east. This is his second time round so it's not necessarily new; his take is that it's just so much more intense lately.

Last deployment I made helmet coolers and neck coolers to send over. The idea was great and hopeful but it seems not many of the soldiers found much relief in using them. So GDubbs doesn't want me to put time into making more. But anyone have any fresh ideas as to tried and true items to help relieve them from the heat?

I'm about to head off to WalMart to see what I can find there. I know last time I also sent a "beach party" box with a blow up kiddie pool and toys, water pistols, bubbles, water Frisbees and goosh balls. It was pretty well received for the fun factor but this time around I'm looking to send something more practical.
