Hi Everyone. I thought I would introduce myself to all the team members and let you know how I became eligible for this group. I am 66 years of age, the mother of 3 grown daughters and grandmother to 4 wonderful grandchildren.(They are just about grown also, ages 19 through 25), 3 boys and 1 girl. I have had some health problems since about 2001, when I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. Then I developed Diabetes. I have had high Blood Pressure and cholesterol problems since I have been about 30 years old. My Father had Heart Bypass surgery when I was 12. At that time the procedure was very new and they cut the blocked areas from the arteries and used plastic tubing of some kind to graft them back together, where today they use our veins. My sister who is 10 years older than me had her Heart bypass at age 65. I had my triple bypass at age 65 also. In May of 2011, I started having "gas pains" at night when I tried to go to sleep I would sit up for awhile and they would go away. I would be fine all day and then when I layed down to go to bed for the night the "gas pains" would come back again. This went on for almost a week, my significant other kept asking if I wanted to go to the hospital and I would say no it is only gas. I was suppose to have knee surgery on Monday May 17th so I had to go for a pre op Screening on the Thursday before, I was OK'd for the Surgery and they called on friday and told me to be at the Hospital at 6am Monday. On Friday night I went to bed and the "gas pains" started but this time they didn't go away, I got up and went to sit in the living room to see if they would subside, they didn't, they just got stronger and then I got a real sharp pain that radiated to my back and down my left arm. I woke up my significant other and asked him if the Hospital offer was still open because I thought I needed to get this checked out. When I got there they drew blood and tested it and come back and told me that I had a small heart attack, the enzymes showed in the blood work. They scheduled a cardiac cath for Monday and cancelled the knee surgery. They though maybe I would need a stint but I was blocked in 4 places and one area was 100% others 90%, 85% and I think 60%. So they contacted a Heart Surgeon (whom I still Love) Dr. Kaskow he was worried about the surgery because I am Obese, a diabetic have high blood pressure so he did a bunch of tests and then my surgery was scheduled for May 19, 2011. Spent 7 days in the hospital and went home on Oxygen. Here I am a year and half later and I am doing fine. However it is now time for me to get my weight under control get my weight under control. I am going to weigh in every week and post it here if you would like to join me I would be delighted. I will start a weekly weigh in topic for anyone who wants to use it.
