Yeah, I fall down a lot, but somehow I am always able to pick my self up again. The hardest thing I had to learn was stop beating myself up. It's ok to trip up once in a while, we are human. This week marks 5 years since I had my bypass. I am feeling great, getting in 10,000 step a day and slowly working on getting my pounds down. Keep at It !

It does help some to know we're not alone, but sometimes I wish my SparkBuddies could reach through my computer monitor and say GET UP...GO EXERCISE...CLEAN YOUR HOUSE...PLAN YOUR MEALS...actually physically REACH OUT, 'cuz sometimes the lazies are not so easy to overcome just READING it! emoticon

Blessings!

Pat

Nancy--I swear you are in my head. You just described my actions perfectly. I am sooo relieved that I am NOT the only one that does this!! I feel less of a failure now. I needed to read that today. Thankful I signed on!!

It is really easy to readopt your bad habits that lead to the bypass in the first place. The important thing is catching yourself and getting yourself back on track. I am very good at the talk...not as good at the walk. Have discovered that I LIKE being lazy...BUT...I don't like that so much stuff doesn't get done if I don't do it...and I don't like that when I don't exercise I have no energy...and I don't like that when I eat whatever I want, with no plan, I regain the weight that I lost...and I REALLY DON'T LIKE knowing that I KNOW the answer to all this and STILL I sit on my well-padded rear and DON'T do the THINGS THAT I KNOW I NEED TO DO! emoticon

Well I have to say I really appreciate your theory on the idea of "someday" it's so true and something we all need to focus on. With that said I have an appointment with the cardiologist 2/21 so someday is right now for me as it has been for the past 2 1/2 months, I would like to be down another 15lbs before that appointment putting me down 25lbs total since my surgery in October. Since I finally have the all clear for more exercise than just rehab specific work outs I hope I can really up the weight loss. Fingers crossed and any meal ideas anyone has would be really appreciated.

Carrie

Hope things are going well with everyone this new year. You know how we all say that "someday I'll..." If you look on the new 2011 calendar, there is no "someday" on it. Someday came and gone last year. Someday is today. So this year I vow to lose weight and keep it off. I am now a card carrying member of Weightwatchers Points Plus Program. Got my lab tests back and all my numbers look good. Doctor even took me off tricor medication-- and that was with only a 14 pound weight loss-- imagine what 36 more pounds will do. The savings in prescription more then pays for my WW membership. So, Let's all hang in their together and make someday today! Ron

Well, had my stress test on 12/28. On 12/29 the nurse called and said to make sure that I don't miss my follow up this week. I had an abnormal stress test. When I asked what that meant she replied that it looked as though I have some heart muscle not working correctly and that we would discuss my options on Wednesday. WTH does that mean? Now, I'm a little freaked out. Can't wait until I can get this appointment over with. I had double bypass last year, I was hoping I didn't have to worry for awhile. Arrrrrgh!!

Hi All,
Well the snow and serious bad weather has made me unable to undertake to usual walks and exercise routines. I.E. Going 2 - 4 miles a day etc, as well as watching what I eat. But I have been able to use my Wii fit plus as a alternative, walking on the spot is not the same as being out in the open air, but it still burns the calories as do some of the other exercises. I am finding that having re adjusted my goals I.E. trying to lose the weight over a longer period of time, that I am succeeding, well so far at any rate. The main part of my diet is NO SALT nad very low fat intake. Since my surgery I have only had Chips on 3 occassions and battered fish just the once, it made me quite ill the following day. I also find that when I got to pubs / restaurants for a meal and explain my condition they are always very helpful and will in most cases provide a Baked / Mashed potato alternative. Hope you all have a great Xmas and New Year
Regards
Scooby

Welcome back everyone!
I hear you all, I've also had trouble staying on track nutrition-wise now that I'm back in the swing of fulltime work, holidays, etc. My CABG was back in March and I initially lost 10 lbs by simply not really eating in the week after surgery (our hospital food is horrid). I've gained it back and refuse to let the scale inch upwards. I started WW a week ago and have lost 3 lbs. on the new plan in my first week, I need to lose at least 2 more by the 23rd as that's my next MD appt (I need to do labs this week). Let's try to keep each other on track as it sounds like we are all facing the same challenges. I now view my exercise like my prescriptions, I HAVE to do it at least 3-4 days/week. Unfortunately, I haven't taken the same focus with my eating and now I need to.

It is refreshing to know that I am not alone. We need to help keep each other motivated. I'm baking tonight. But, it's unlike anything I've baked before. Brownies out of avocado and heart healthy cookies. My family will either love them or hate em. At least I can take them to work, also. Everyone do your best during these tough "dieting" times. I'll keep you posted.

I can totally relate...I am starting over too. Last year in August I had by-pass surgery. While I was at home recovering I discovered Sparkpeople...the best think I have ever done in this weight loss journey. And things went well. I was walking every day for at least 30mins and had lost 30lbs in total. Was down to my lowest weight at Christmas time that I had been at in over 15 years. Felt great. But alas, the fun and games ended and I had to return to work. It became harder and harder to do the right thing. Things got busy, the weather got to cold, it got dark to early, money got tight, I was tired...you get the picture!!! Ended up gaining 20lbs back and loosing my momentum. Now it is a year later and I am kicking myself because of where I could be now if I had kept going. But, I can't change it so now I am starting again and planning to take advantage of all Sparkpeople has to offer.

I am convinced that if we just take one step at a time we will make it.

"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint."
Isaish 40:31

Oct 2012 Goals:
1)Get eyes checked/new glasses
2)Do 10 min fitness each day
3)Visit Sparkpeople daily
4)Plan next day meals each day
5)Be under 190 for month end
6)Visual Collage & Calender of goals

One of the major issues I had was admitting I needed help, by the time I did I was already in hospital having suffered a heart attack and awaiting the by-pass surgery. Since then I have made it a very concious effort to record everything I do and eat on a daily basis, having the apps for both Spark people and myfitnesspal.com on my i-pod touch really helps with this, and theres no double keying the data when I gethome just sync the app and its done. A word of caution though, I recently spent two days back in hospital with a suspected heart attack, thankfully it wasn't. It turned out that I has sustained the severe pain I was having from over exercising using the new Sports Active2 software for the Wii. The diagnosis was muscular/skeltal friction caused by too much upper body exercise using the resistance bands etc. So for now the Sports active2 stays firmly in its box and the other Cardio exercises from the hospital will be used for quite some time to come. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!! you've done it once and I'm sure with all the support you appear to be getting you will do it again!!!!!

I can't restart quite yet because of dental problems that won't heal. However, I intend to start over again by January. If I can't eat salads and other things that will be healthy and help me lose some of my excess weight, I'll go on a liquid diet! This has got to end so that I can feel better!

It has been quite some time since I have been on here. SparkPeople hasn't failed me but, I have failed myself. I have managed to go backwards. In the last 6 months I have managed to put on 30lbs. I was doing so well when I was tracking. I got complacent and forgot what was important. This is absolutely the heaviest I have ever been. I finally shared with my husband what my weight was. He was shocked over what has happened and promised to help me in any way that he can.
However, I am here to start over again. I must do something. I hurt all the time and I'm beginning to "huff and puff". The excuses stop today. Hopefully, telling my husband will help encourage me to be better for both of us.
