The first thing I did today is to face the truth and reset my weight to the heaviest I've ever been. No easy way to get around it. But part of my new goal is to weight in once a week and post the results on my Spark Page. This simple step, shows that I must stick to a diet plan. I have been real godd walking over 25 the 30 miles each week, but it is the evening snacking that has put the pounds on.

My major goal for 2010 is to plan my meals (3 a day plus snacks), make a grocery list, buy the things on the list, prepare and serve the meals I planned.

For some reason, I've been getting bogged down in the process, if I HAVE made the plans and bought the ingredients, I generally haven't followed through.

Focusing on this one thing will benefit my family, my checkbook, my weight, my blood pressure, my cholesterol, and my triglycerides. (And probably several other areas that I haven't listed.)

Pat
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Dear God, please help me to remember that there is nothing that can happen to me that You have not permitted, and that if You have permitted it, You are right with me as I make my way over, under, around, or through it.

Happy New Year, everyone! I'm wondering about resolutions you've made? Post and share!
I've never been very good at making New Year's resolutions, I'm afraid. Thanks for starting us out, Ronald.

I see by this forum date it was a year ago that I responded to a New years Resolution- and yes, or no, how ever you want to look at it, I didn't do very well on trying to loose weight. But it is a new year and a new chance again. My resolution is to loose weight and reach a normal and healthy weight for my frame and height (BMI). A little mini goal is to also cut back on my salt usage and lower my BP. Anyone else going to give 2010 a chance to kickstart their diet regime?

Hi guys, I enjoyed talking with you all but will not be on for a while. I am going back in for a second open heart since the valve they put in last april is defective. I look forward to getting back here when I am able so I can continue to strive for better health and helpful ideas from everyone. Good luck to you all. I will be rooting for you.

It seems to be a double edged sword with drinking red wine. One study says its heart healthy if drunk in moderation- but it can raise your triglycerides. Every time I have my blood work done the DR asks me if I drink alcohol due to my high numbers,(I don't). my brother has the same problem, his numbers went up with a glass of wine. If you don't have a problem with your triglycerides I would say enjoy your glass of wine. emoticon

I don't know what my numbers are but I should find out. I also like red wine a lot and have vowed to watch that now too. I did start taking salad to work for lunch this week. Dinner is my hardest time. And I haven't had red wine since the 1st. It's only small steps but at least they are in the right direction. Good luck to everyone

This is a great thread!

My triglycerides were 625 last August. My problem is that I love red wine. My resolution is to watch closely what I eat and limit red wine to special events and weekends.

AUNTGA, it looks like you are really doing great with your diet and weight! Good for you!

HI,JUST WANTED TO ANSWER A FEW OF YOUR QUESTIONS. AS I SAID MY TRICYCERIDES WERE VERY HIGH. 1234 TO BE EXACT. I WAS GIVEN LOVAZA 1 GRAM-2 IN THE AM AND 2 IN THE PM TAKEN WITH FOOD. THE TRIGLYCERIDES ARE NOW BETWEEN 130-AND 180. MY CHOSTEROL IS ALSO NOW BETWEEN NORMAL LIMITS. AS FOR MY SALAD DRESSING I USE ONE TEASPOON OF LIGHT RANCH. IT ISN'T MUCH BUT IF YOU MIX IT WELL, IT IS GREAT. FOR BREAKFAST I HAVE SUGAR FREE OATMEAL, CHEERIOS OR SPECIAL K. MY NUMBERS HAVE IMPROVED AND I HAVE LOST WEIGHT. HOPE YOU CAN FIND SOME HELP IN THIS. CONTINUE TO POST TO KEEP US INFORMED OF HOW YOU ARE DOING.

I was never told to take the oils. I was told to eat fish 3 times a week. I do not take anything for the cholesterol. I've always managed to control it by diet and exercise. I guess that may be changing. When you have your salads with the tuna or turkey what do you use as a dressing? What do you do for breakfast? I use to use egg beaters but switched to cheerios or life cereal. I can not have citrus so my fruits are usually apples, grapes, pears or bananas.

Hey everybody, this is the kind of chit chat that I like to see going on with the HEART BYPASS TEAM. I find it very supportive to see what other people are doing, and asking questions on how it worked for them. I see that your DR said to take a omega 3 oil tablet. My DR told me to take fish oil, preferably salmon oil (ya, sometimes I go get that fish oil burp). Man, I don't know if I could go with only a sandwich a week-- you got real will power-

HI, ALL. I ALSO TAKE TRICOR ALONG WITH LIPITOR. MY DR. ALSO STARTED ME ON OMEGA 3 OIL TABLETS. I THINK THAT THE DRUGS PLUS THE CHANGE IN DIET REALLY WORKED. MY TRIGLCERIDES ARE NORMAL NOW. BUT IT TOOK TIME. AS FOR THE DIET I HAVEN'T EATEN PASTA IN YEARS. MY LUNCH I ONLY HAVE ONE SANDWICH A WEEK WITH WHOLE GRAIN BREAD. THE OTHER DAYS I TAKE TUNA OR TURKEY AND MIX IT IN MY SALAD. I SOMETIMES TAKE A SINGLE THERMOS OF LOW SODIUM SOUP IN THE COLDER WEATHER. I HAVE LOST WEIGHT AND FEEL GOOD. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AUNTGA.

Happy New Years guys, AuntGA I see you gave up bread and pasta. Does that also include whole grain/whole wheat? What would you have for lunch if not a sandwich. I pack a lunch daily so a sandwich is more portable. I use whole wheat bread, thin turkey or tuna fat free mayo or mustard and fat free cheese. Sometimes I take a salad but it is not filling. I can't exercise yet until I see what the angiogram says Tues but I was exercising faithfully after the valve replacement until the chest pains returned and the SOB returned so diet is the only hope at this time for wt loss. Any suggestions on meals would be helpful.

Gosh, mine were around 500, but now in check with the help of a drug called "trichor"-- about a dollar a pill. I have to admit that I am a big starch eater since I don't eat meat. Well try eaing more veggies and beans. I do make my own bread- no fats in it. Thanks for the advice- will give it a try. Have you cut back on your fats and consumption of meat? I have, and my cholesteral is around 135. And a Happy New Year to you too!

HI,YOU MENTIONED TRICYCLERIDES N YOUR POST. A YEAR AGO MINE WAS 1234. I GAVE UP BREAD AND PASTA. THEY DROPPED DRASTICALLY. THEY ARE WAY LOWER THAN 200 NOW. ONE OF MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS IS TO TRY AND GET THIS TEAM GOING BETTER. AS SOON AS THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS OVER, I WILL START WORKING ON IT. HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR !

In a few days we will be starting a New Year- it's a time to reflect on our blessings and make new goals to have a more healthy lifestyle. I have been using the Dean Ornish Reversing Heart disease diet. It is a diet that basically cuts out most fats, no single serving of food should have more then 3 grams of fat. My cholesterol is down to 135, but have problems with my triglycerides---no, I don't drink booze. Would be interested in hearing what you all are doing diet wise. OK, my New Years resolution is to reach my weight goal, with mini resolutions of doing it in ten pound increments. emoticon
