Well Sheep, if you know what the numbers mean, then possibly you could swindle them. Personally, I have absolutely no idea what the heck those things mean. I just know how to read them. I don't believe they could argue with you. At the very least they would have to send someone out to reread the meter for you and you could ask then.

My mom reads hers too.. as well as 'the man'..she's not bothered at all with complaining if she thinks it's not just right.

Yeah but would they trust me if I said "hey the number is only #####"...after all I could be just a customer trying to get free utilities lol...

I don't trust metered type of billing :|

Ummm... if you worry about that, you could check the meter yourself. My bill comes with instructions on how to do it. I frequently do it because my meter man can't get to my meter since I put up my fence. He has to read it with little binoculars.

But seriously mistakes can be made and the best way is to check for yourself. My friend is avid about it. Once she got a bill that she found outrageous, it was winter and the meter man could not get to the meters. She checked the meter herself and called the number in. They took like 200 off her bill!

Oh i didn't know that it does. I think the utility companies rip people off...I mean how do they know how much we use...all they do is send a tech to check our meters...they could be writing the wrong figures down!

Water? I've heard that about electricity.. cheaper during off hours. I didn't know it was true of water as well.. Something to think about!

I'm wondering if this is common knowledge. Recently I discovered that hydro costs different prices at different times of the day. For instance during peak time 11am - 5pm the cost is 10.5cents. Between 10pm and 7am it costs only 3.5cents. The rest of the time between it costs 7.5cents. This is my area, but I'm not sure what its like in other places.

It won't affect my bill this year, as I'm on equal billing, but it should be nice on next years once a nice credit comes through :D

I know I'm probably way behind the times, but in case someone else out there hadn't heard of this before, I thought I would throw it out there.
