Cheapest place here is $4.05. Most are around $4.19. When I was looking for work, I had to go by how far away is it. Any farther thant 30 minutes and it wasn't going to be worth it. Luckily, the place I got in was only 24 minutes away.

No kidding CooknwithTS. It's at about $4/gal in my area, and has been since last week. Since St. Louis is supposed to be a relatively low cost-of-living area, I can only imagine what the prices are elsewhere. Yeesh.

It's sad when I read this thread and mourn for the "good old days" when gas was *only* $3.65! :)

I agree with you Delores. We are hoping to take a trip to Sandusky, Ohio over the 4th of July. If the gas prices continue to go up, we will probably do something closer to home like Lake Geneva WI. instead.

With the food prices going up, I have started doing more creative things to try to save on the grocery bill. Meanwhile, DH complains about some things that I get at Costco, so I have a sort of trial and error going.

The drugstore is a 10 min walk from here, so now I have been going there by foot. Good for me, saves on gas and wear and tear on the car.

yep. it's sick that I think that 3.49 is a good price in the DFW area for a gallon of gas.

it's not just affecting our transportation, it's now affecting ALL the prices that matter to me - food, teaching supplies, transportation, conferences, everything

ugh

I'm riding my cycle more. Still have to buy food to fuel my legs, but at least the massive oil companies aren't making so much directly off me.

Record profits when I'm scrambling to fill up my car? not cool

Bay Area, Tri Valley = $3.94!!! Luckily I have a short 15 minute commute. We get hit with heavy cost because apparently if we can afford to live here, we can afford to be gouged. NOT!! Although, living in this area has been financially better than living in Oregon which is not at all what I expected.

The only thing you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything.

Well, I for one am willing to do something about it. I just don't know what. I work from home so I don't commute. When I have to take my son to the babysitters, I carpool with my husband and he stays at work for lunch rather than coming home to save on gas. We haven't taken any unnecessary trips. We buy gas from the cheapest station in the area, which is NOT a big name station like Exxon/Mobil/Shell/Chevron/BP/Texaco, etc. My husband only works about 5 miles from our house so we have a very short distance to and from work every day. We shop close to home, although there aren't any grocery stores within walking distance. Our church is close to home. The first time we did anything recently for "fun" was this past Saturday for date night when we went bowling for the first time in like 3 years.

We try very hard to stay close to home and our gasoline has still gone up $100 every month since January. We were paying about $100 for gas in January. In March, it was $300. Isn't that crazy?!?!?!

I would love to know what more to do. I would attend a rally. I would write to my congressmen. But I think it would be wise to know what sort of plan we need to get this issue corrected. Anyone have any ideas? Government may do nothing, but if I knew what the heck to tell them to do, I'd bother everyone I could with it until they just got sick of me if you know what I mean.

$3.85 to $3.97 here in the East SF Bay Area of CA.

I say e-mail your state and federal senators and representatives. It is easy to look up their e-mail and you can cut and paste the same brief message to them all. Each message is counted, so if a lot of us do it, they will realize that they have to pay attention.

The real problem: We, the people have to take our power back. Washington isn't going to do a dern thing about OIL COMPANIES. The thought of Washington doing anything with Oil companies makes me want to laugh.

This country was founded on the hard efforts of we the people. We the people are paying the price of giving our power away. I am taking mine back. I vote with my money/time/effort. I am voting very very carefully now a days.

That group has done quite a few protest rallys, and I say keep doing it! Something has GOT to be done.

If the oil companies weren't making profits, I'd have a different view, but there is absolutely NO reason for us to have to make major lifestyles changes to line the oil company's pockets.

Outrageous!

$3.46-$3.60 in the DFW area. I'm just appalled by the gas prices. I'm surprised there aren't picket lines or rioting in the streets. This is just insane! BP just announced something like a 60% increase in their profit for the last quarter! Insane I tell you!
