Hey Deb! My old bank in Ohio had a coinstar machine as well, but they had a little caveat to using it. It was only free if you used it to deposit into a child's bank account :) What an incentive to save for the future!

Weakness, I have 4 people on my credit report that aren't calling me. I think I'm going to give them a call tonight and pay off 3 of them (they're only $38, $127, and $83, so I think I can manage that). Good job paying off another account!

Today I paid off a collection account for $460. It feels great to have the guilt lifted. They weren't even calling us, but I knew I owed them, and that was eating me up inside.

I paid $125 on my citibank card, $15 over the minimum. $200 on my target visa, no minimum due but I pay it off every month, $300 on my capital one, no minimum due. and $103 minimum due on our interest deferred furniture...so I am on the way...

As far as coins go...my bank now has a coin counter just like Coinstar, but it is free for customers...so I just bring it in, dump it in and take the slip up to deposit it into my account!

I spent all my savings but I think once i get out of my "catching up from christmas" situation then I'll not end up being broke. But I think as of 2/16 I should be out of that situation and be back to regular routine of any money left over after paying minimums 1/2 to savings and 1/2 to paying down debts.

Luckily, it will only take a couple of months to replace my emergency fund. With all the kids grown and gone, I'm at the place where I actually have money at the end of each month :)

KATENO9,
Congratulations on having that emergency fund. I bet it felt great to know that you had the cash on hand to pay for it. Stay motivated and replace that emergency fund so that you can be prepared again. I am still working on getting my fund together. I am getting a bonus in March and that will get me well on my way.

I had to have my furnance repaired this week. Thank goodness for my emergency fund. I didn't have to put the repair on my credit card. Now I've just got to replace the $1000.

Congratulations on getting that rate down. I noticed one of my cards lowered the rate because of my payment history. Too bad it is the smallest balance!

Change is a funny thing around our house. That is all I allow myself to use-for lunches or extras (blow money). If I get change (coins) from say buying groceries or gas, that is what I can use for lunch the next day, i usually have to save up for about a week to be able to treat myself to something like that, but it makes it easier never to visit the ATM for anything.
I never feel bad about paying in change. People can think what they want, but I know that I am being very thrifty with my money. The only change that we collect is pennies. It seems like we can't spend them fast enough...then we take them to the bank and they count them for free and deposit them into our account. We never account for those pennies in our account until the end of the year, so they add up.

I wasn't a big fan of coinstar because they charge you. So I bought at Walmart one of those battery operated change counters that you can put the preformed wrappers in and I just put all my change in there now. When it gets full I wrap them up and take them to the bank for no charge! You can get wrappers at the banks for free too! So for like 10 bucks as a one time fee to buy the coincounter, your set!

This month I paid:(rounded everything up to nearest dollar)

Studen Loan: $200
Credit card#1: $900
Credit card #2: $543
Car payment: $500
Cell phone: $30
Rent: $1400

Things I did to save money this month: Looked for sales, saved all change and rolled it up myself to deposit it in the bank (those Coinstar machines are a RIP OFF!), cooked instead of going out to dinner.

Also negotiated a lower rate on my credit card #1... down 3% now!!

I paid for my school this semester on a credit card; however, I received a scholarship so I will pay it all off when I receive my reimbursement check. I also was blessed enough to find a car that I could acctually pay CASH for! We have 4 drivers in the house sharing one car, so we really needed that extra transportation. Particularly since I am gone two nights a week until 10:00 attending classes, and most Saturdays doing respite care, or mom visits.

It was so exciting to be able to do that!I teased my hubby and told him I bought him a car for his birthday, which is Feb 12. So what if it is a 1996 Delta 88? It has less that 65,000 miles on it!
less than $1,000.00! no debt. My son is going to pay the insurance every month, cause he wants to be able to drive it to school during the day while we are all at work, cause he was waiting for me to pick him up; or riding Metro. so no expense for me on that either! I am making extra money doing respite care for a wonderful family with a autistic son. I work in special ed now for 10 years. It is nice to make extra money doing something you love!
That is what paid for this car!
I am thankful!!!! My other son finally got a full time job, and he just paid me his share of his insurance also....so that is another $100.00 I am not having to pay anymore. emoticon

I think it is very motivating to celebrate each payment (greater than the minimum) that gets you closer to Debt Free. Use this as a way to celebrate!

1/16 paid $50 to Mastercard ($12 minimum) $38 closer to debt free!
