There is a new treatment with magnets that I have learned about. It has been pretty successful. I will post a link: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/transcranial-magnetic-stimulation/MY00185

Essentially, they put magnets on certain spots of the head. This creates pulses that stimulate something that helps depression. You should really read up on it.

No memory loss. Good, fast results.

I have been trying to find someone in my area of the country that does this.

I have had several rounds of ECT over the past 20 years. For me it was not an experience I would recommend. I would initially get relief, but it never lasted more than 2 weeks. I was with the same psychiatrist and therapist for a good 20 years and was hospitalized 99 times (no I'm not proud of that), but in the end my "shrink" told me I was untreatable and sent me to a community clinic. (That was a disaster), so on my own I found another doctor and another therapist. At my request I told the dr. I wanted off as much medication as possible (I was so medicated I was in a stupor most of the time). I did that and the therapist I'm working with is wonderful and I think finally got to the root of my problems (PTSD) and on minimal meds and haven't seen the psych hospital in over 3 years. Also about the ECT, for me at least, it wasn't just short term memory that I lost, but long term as well. That is one of the hardest things for me to deal with because there are big chunks of my life that are missing. All this being said, I guess it works for some people, but I would make sure that you are totally and well informed.

I have never had this therapy and the only people I have known who had it were patients in a psych hospital and they were forced into it...of course that was many years ago. I was always scared and put off by the horror stories I was told by relatives who worked at the hospital. Has it been helpful for you?

Blessings and Peace,
Candi

I am interested in this, as my dr finally told me there is no other drug out there for me. I don't know if this is true, but I would be very interested in your experiences with ECT.

Does anyone out there receive ECT? I have been for the last 13 months and I would love to compare notes with someone. If you have questions about ECT, I'd be happy to share my experiences with you. I'm not in the medical field. All I can tell you is what I have learned as a patient.
