My girlfriend and I have experimented with various things since last summer when we saw "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead." and it was awhile before I got a vitimixer. We already had a 70's vintage centrfical type juicer but noticed we were having to do other things like psillium to get the roughage in for detox... That's why we went to vitamix, so the skins pulp etc (except for seeds that might tear it up, like peach pits etc. as it gives extra body because of the fiber etc. Vitamix recipes vary of course, but a rule of thumb was about 3-4 cups of fruit, and was suggested that frozen bananas could be used, or ice cubes. Then add 3-4 cup of your greens - what you have, what you like, and then some liquid - water, or as others have noted, almond or soy milk, coconut water, you mentioned the POM which also sounds good & tart!! Yum!!

I don't believe there is a one way perfectly right. But like recently I had some bursitis issues with my shoulder, so as well as the freggies I had on hand, I also used some coconut oil, some beef gelatin powder, and some stinging nettles tea. I just opened tea bags and dumped it in to be blended in. Stinging nettles has anti- inflammatory properties. Can also use dark chocolate 80-85-90% dark - again whatever is handy. They help mellow out the raw greens flavor. There are books on teas, tonics, what helps with this or that ailment etc. I've also just dumped in Swiss water processes decaf coffee that was made up and left over... Just need some liquid in a blender like that, to help keep it from being too thick from the pulp and overheating motor. With a centrfical juicer, the pulp gets spun out (bit it is possible to have too much freggies going and the centrfical part starts getting overloaded. Then we cut ot off and remove that layer of pulp, get a new filter and then finish juicing if we need to.).

I've got flax seed but haven't broken down my package into smaller zippy bags down, as it is in the freezer in original cellophane packaging - but when I do, I'll be adding flax seed. I know of other who will add chia or hemp or a combo of seeds, oh yes and nuts, I'll add almonds or walnuts too - both are good.

It's all good!!!

Interesting....what else do you add with it? I always use almond milk & POM & then add fruits & kale or spinach...

Hey cool suggestion! I hadnt thought about it because I like the coconut water with pulp in it on occasion (have to watc because some places use a lot of sugar in it.). I tend to use coconut oil in my smoothie and already have a distiller so my water is usually fairly decent. I find the coconut water cheaper at local Asian/ethnic grocery stores because coconut water is used in many of the countries around the equator and tropical regions. The health food stores tend to jack the prices up...

Just wanted to put a shout out to all my smoothie buddies, using coconut water as a base instead if plain water increases nutrition content and makes it WAY more delicious. I don't like it on it's own so much but coconut water in any smoothie tastes great,
