A year and a month (almost) since I joined Spark. I've stumbled at times, but most of the time this site is what has kept me coming back to the fold! Thanks team (and Spark)!

Well, since my last post I have had a bit of a downturn...stayed in a plateau for several weeks, then got depressed and went back to my old eating style for several days. I undid a lot of the good I've done this past year, but I'm back on track FOR GOOD now. I just have to remember plateaus are part of the proces...

I've been away for awhile, but glad to be moving into a routine now that school is back in session. I maintained most of my wt. loss over the summer (no idea how I managed that but thankful) and now I want to loose 10 by Christmas. Good to be back.

With school starting up again this week, my elliptical not working properly, and me being sick it has not been the best workout week. I have however completed Week 3 of the Couch 2 5K program.

i have bounced all over the place. i feel like i am yoyoing on this weight loss. however i have learned to love who i am which was a huge accomplishment. now i am starting to work out a training schedule because i decided to walk a marathon in 2010 for breast cancer awareness hopefully this will help move the scale down again. that scale i feel laughs at me everytime i get on it. there is no consistency in my gains or losses but i will not give up just adjusting my goals again, feels like i do that alot

Well I have really struggled up a few down a few just maintaining. Any way found out in the last year that I am allergic to corn and all corn products, so I pretty much have to make every thing from scratch and don't eat out much because resturants don't realize that if the purchase pre-packaged sauces hey guess what is in them corn syrup . I can't stand it plus I just lost all my motivation since I really don't have the support system I need at home and the only time I can log into SP is on my break at work! Home is Dial--up and that is so slow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any way I still check in from time to time and am eating healthier now then ever I just need to get motivated in the exercise area of my life.

In God's LOVE;

I'm doing GREAT! Feeling healthier and stronger now than in the last 20 years. Even though I still have 41 pounds to go, I feel so good and have so much more energy.

Since January of 2008 I have lost over 40 pounds and since joining SP in October, I've lost just under 30 pounds. Wow! When you put the number down like that it makes such a difference.

I am starting to see my old body shape come back. I haven't seen it in over 12 years. The last time I was "thin" I lost it by practically starving myself. I see what a difference exercise and eating right has done for my body.

In March I had a little bit of a breakdown and gained a few pounds back, but I'm back in the game. A lot has changed for me emotionally also. When your body is healthier and stronger, your mind and overall being mirror that. I'm hoping to get close to my goal by the end of the year.

Good luck to all of you!

I've been bouncing back and forth between -75 to 72 pounds. I'm hoping to get that last pound off again then start on my mini challenge to myself of taking off the next 10 pounds.

I went to Hu Hot one to many times that one week and it added a couple of pounds back on.

My year anniversary is only 2 months away and 4 month away from when I joined Spark. So I'd like to have the above 10 pounds off by Aug and 20 off by Oct.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Sorry for the late congratulations. Proof I haven't been doing so well...mainly, I think I was thinking too hard. Whenever I overanalyze, I get stressed, and do the opposite of what I should do. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Anyways, CONGRATULATIONS!! 75 pounds is nothing to scoff at! I'm so happy for you :D

I'm very pleased with my progress.

75 Pounds are now gone! I was trying to get to 90 before DD's graduation but that did not happen. But I am okay with that. I could have been going the other way on the scale.

I hope my other classmates are doing well. Don't give up! You are the only one that can make this healthy journey happen.

God bless,
Char

Hi all, I have not been active on this team, as I joined a smaller team of people who are all striving to lose 100 or more pounds and just keeping up with that team keeps me pretty busy.

But I wanted to stop in and let you all know that today I hit a major milestone...I have lost 50.4 pounds now! emoticon

I still have 66 more to go to reach my goal, but I am almost to the half-way point now, and that feels pretty good!

Happy Healthy Day Everyone!

I'm back too :) I never meant to quit, but school has been so difficult...too difficult this semester. I'm usually a 4.0 student (no exaggerating), but this semester my mind and heart just aren't in it. And to be honest, I think a fraction of it has to do with being discontent with my weight. But it's kinda like an oxymoron because I'm so "obsessed" with it that it's causing me trouble with school, but because I'm so busy trying to keep up with school that by time I'm done with the school work I'm too spent to want to exercise or care what goes into my mouth, and it also triggers the emotional eating.

Honestly, I've been depressed. That's the only way to put it. I don't know why I get so down. I have no reason to. And I don't think I'm depressed because of the weight (I never was in the past) but I do think it magnifies it. I really, really don't get it.

BUT...nonetheless, I'm back again. The great thing about SP is it has created an awareness in me that I can get right back on the wagon if I really want to. My current goal is to spend the next 30 days just really focusing on areas of my life and how I can improve them in small ways. For the next 30 days, I'm going to count EVERY single thing that goes into my mouth so I can see just where I struggle the most. For example, tonight we had Taco Bell and I recorded it, but I realize I'm still more than full so I could have easily cut out one item from my order and saved at least 400 calories to boot!!

Anyways, the next 30 days, I hope to be hanging out here on SP a lot. I've been going through all the teams looking for some new fun ones to help me stay motivated.

I'm just like everybody else, only different.

I started over as well, on New Year's. I'm not losing as fast I would like, but I have lost 15lbs and a pant size, so I cannot complain. I also completed a 5k this past weekend, which was one of my goals. I am making sure that I'm taking my work breaks and walking.

Hello everyone,

I have been a part of this team since October but have not been active in here. I have been in another team.

Grandmasam thank very much for the mail.

So five months and 22LBS gone and going strong.

Just a word of encourageement to anyone that feels as if u can't do it, I have been there I know its not easy we just have to be focussed consistent and be strong.

Persons who have been doing good great job and keep it up.
five months ago I could not even walk for 10 minutes without being winded but know I am doing squats with 40Lbs and running and hiking and the list goes on.

Good luck everyone with the battle of the bulges LOL.:-)

Hello Classmates,
I'm checking in because Grandmasam told me to do so. emoticon

Well, I've been shedding pounds since Aug. Right now I'm 1.5 pounds away from a grand total of 60#.

The first quarter 37# came off easily, second quarter 13.5, now this third quarter it is even more slow about coming off. ( will not know until the May 16th)

I don't think I'll make my goal of 90#'s gone before our daughter graduates from high school. But that is okay. Even if I get a little down about that, I have another soon to be proud of goal. That being getting out of the 300's!!!

I keep tracking my food intake everyday, drinking my water and praying to God for the strength to continue.

I have noticed that I do not get out of breath as easy, can stand longer, walk farther and I'm happier.

I don't tell many about my weight loss. Just my girlfriend and SIL know for sure. I've had another girlfriend ask if I lost weight, so I told her what I'm doing. Then two other girlfriends have given me that "look". You know the one, when someone thinks something has changed about you, but they don't want to ask. Oh yes, my mother has noticed.

So even if the pounds coming off has slowed, I'll not be discouraged. Because every week, that light at the end of the tunnel gets brighter with every pound that comes off.

Good luck to all my classmates. Don't give up because we deserve to live a long, happy and healthy life.

WE CAN DO IT!!

I started out with a strong goal and worked hard but before Christmas I totally gave up. I will never reach my goal by my goal date and to be honest I havent even tried in a long time. I check in to spark every couple days to read articles and hope for a miracle cure to my discouragement but have yet to find it. All the people I started out chatting with arent here anymore and I cant find my place to be. If anyone has some incouraging words I sure could use them. My self esteem has hit rock bottom and Im not liking myself all over again I look in the mirror and want to cry. its almost spring and I am not even looking forward to shorts or short sleeve shirts YUK!!! thats all I can think

Since Christmas, I've been on a plato (YUK). I have been sick, then I started with the prep work for Veneers which made even warm air passing over my teeth hurt, so I have not done to much since just before Christmas.

I am now feeling better, teeth fixed and back on the tread mill. I want to get to my goal weight before I get married, which we have not set a date for yet but it may be this year or maybe next year.

Just 2 days ago, I decided to change to Stage 2 of SP. I did some weeks back, but returned to stage 1 because I realised I wasn`t up to it yet. So I am working on the portion control and I have to say, that I am fighting the feeling of hunger. Which is nice though, because in the past I rarely felt it, since I was eating too much too often or not eating at all.. my body didn`t give me the signs anymore. So I am looking forward to "train" my body to react normal.

thank you everyone. I lost one more pound since December. Something is better then nothing. I got to admit I think I know why. I stopped eating lots of fruits and veggies. I started eating them again this month and lost the pound. Hopefully I will start losing a lot more now. I have also been eating a lot of the Special K products too and I think they might be helping too. We'll see when I weigh in at the doctor's office next month. Until them good luck to every one else.emoticon

I don't like whole wheat pasta either. I just have the white one less often. Personally, I prefer to eat a little bit of something I enjoy than to eat something I don't like. When I eat something I don't like it feels like I didn't eat at all.

DOLCEDOLCE, don't give up we all hit a plateau. I lost 10 lbs in the first 2 months and haven't lost any since. It's been a month and a half now. Just remember losing weight isn't all about the scale it's also about losing inches. So try measuring your waist, hips, and neck instead for a while and you will probably see an improvement there instead of on the scale.

I did not reach my New Year goal. Given the holidays, it may have been a bit ambitious. I lost five pounds between Thanksgiving and now, which really isn't a lot. BUT it's better than nothing, and certainly better than gaining.

I still feel really good, and I'm trying to focus on that. Also to get back in the habit of using Spark and tracking my food. I stopped due to time constraints and internet access issues, and I think that's part of the reason I slowed down. That and that the dance classes I take had a three week break.

So, yeah. Doing ok, hoping to do better.

I am doing good. I went to the CNP on Friday and weighed in there. I maintained my weight of 150lbs. I guess that's a good thing. At least I didn't gain. I do wish that I had lost something. Does anyone have any ideas on how to flatten your stomach if you can't afford to go to the gym and don't have a lot of time?

So many are making progress! And not just in pounds-lost, but also in REALIZING when 'mistakes' are made. That is in itself good, compared to old bad habits of pretending 'it doesn't matter'. Ok, so that's a page out of my book! lol

Hi Everyone, sorry I have been incognito lately, but still Sparking. I have achieved one of my big goals, I reached a size 14 before Christmas, I was very excited. I did good through Christmas, but after all the chaose was over, I started letting myself go. Excuses; too wet outside, my friend cant walk with me, just one more truffle, and another and another (I will make up for it tomarrow, NOT!), I even think I used the excuse that I already hit a BIG goal, no need to worry, or is it more, there is no way that I reached my size 14 goal, lets see how true it really is!!
Needless to say, I did go up just a couple of pounds and there was a bit of bloat with all the poor choices I made, but it isn't going to stop me from trying to achieve my next goal, size 12 by Feb 1 (although I will probably have to be a little lax on the date just a little so I don't try too hard).
I joined the NEW YOU bootcamp, the team site is a little messy as Grandma Sam pointed out, but trying to find the important parts and doing the workouts. Eating went back to stage 2, just to get me back on track with the calorie thing. A type of self consequence, got to be honest, I need to make some serious life changes.
Well, I am glad that the few of us that are still here are still hanging in. It is nice to see your threads! Hope your New Years bring you goals achieved.

Hugs, Kimi

The holidays are really tough but look at it this way, we started on this journey before alot of people (Jan 1) so we have a jump start on it and it doesn't have to be a New Year's resolution that we either achieve or not. I have found that by posting what I eat whether good for me or not, it has helped me eat less even at holiday functions. (i.e. 1 cookie instead of 3) I consider these achievements! Hang in there, we can make it through this holiday season!!

I've lost only 2 pounds...I'm sure I've gained it back this past week. I just can't seem to commit. In fact since I lost the 2 pounds, I've totally stopped trying. Almost as if I am entitled to eat as much as I want. Something's up here...I just have to figure out why I'm sabotaging myself.
I have started drinking my water again but not enough yet. Baby steps.

Congratulations to you who have lost some weight.
Keep up the good work...you inspire me.

Hi everyone. Thank you for responding to my cry for help.

The holiday wasn't great, but not as bad as it could have been. For now, my one commitment is stay away from fast food. My husband told me he will jump on the bandwagon with me, but not until the first of the year. That is a huge decision for him and I won't push him to commit to anything else. Right now for me, I'm back to baby steps. I'm trying to stay semi-sane when it comes to food and not beat myself up too badly when I fall.

Thanks again

Colleen,
How are you doing today?

This is the hardest time of year with so many celebrations for me, too. Just do what you can, keep tracking your food intake. But together we can get this weight off.

I think tracking food is the biggest help for me. Even if those 5 small pieces of candy on Thanksgiving was not a wish choice.

Keep tracking,
Rosehip

Colleen - hang in there. There is always room to start again, to make changes here and there, no matter how small! And make a big deal about the small changes. They'll snowball.

How am I doing? I started off real strong, but I've slowed down a bit. I have been sick over the last bit, really sick last weekend but I'm coming back around.

I haven't lost much weight. Few lbs. Slowly but surely.

The motivation you need to successfully lose weight is like a fire. It will burn hot and long when you provide it with the fuel it needs, but it will die out quickly if you donít. - SparkPeople article

I agree--you can start now if you start small.

Thanksgiving is important to me, not just because of the food (I've actually been a vegetarian for over 15 years now, so honestly, "turkey day" isn't about the turkey at all). My whole family gets together, we *all* cook, we eat, we play games, we eat some more, we hang out, etc. That's a part of my lifestyle and that's just that.

HOWEVER, this year I'm making a lentil and sweet potato pie (like shephard's pie), which is very healthy, which I'll eat as my main course and my potato side dish in one, as well as pears from a recipie I got off here (stew them in cran-raspberry juice with spices and dried cranberries), which everyone can have but I'll have *instead* of pie. I'm still eating (and I'm still eating the stuffing!!), but it'll just be a little healthier. And these are *good* foods that my family enjoy, so there won't be any complaining or "this is weird" from them.

That's it--I'm not insisting on getting in 2 hours of cardio after the meal or anything drastic. Just eating fewer potatoes and pie, basically. But it's something I can, and will, do.

That's what matters--doing what you *will*, even if it's not always 'perfect'.

(I've lost 12.5 pounds since starting Spark.)

GOALS:
Under 200--Oct 20th. DONE!!
No longer obese (191)--Thanksgiving. DONE!!
Feb 28--175 . DONE!!
No longer overweight (159)--Easter

Colleen,
stay in there! Take it a day at a time. But I think you are giving yourself a hard time with saying "I will start on Friday" because you already imply a failure til then. Don`t do that. I know, Thanksgiving will be hard for you american folks, but why not start right now (well, not right now, since it is in the middle of the night over there), but why not go for a walk today? Try baby-steps and not giant leaps. I have read this sentence here so often, but I love it: it is a journey, not a destination!

You can do it!! And don`t even think about failure!! Don`t risk these self-fullfilling prophecies.

And to answer the question: as you can see, I lost 10 lb (actually, a bit more, it were 5kg) since I am with SP and it feels great, that my pants are too big. But I am having a hard time, since my Dad got into the hospital 2 nights ago. My Mom had to call the emergency, his heart beat was down to 30 a minute, if my Mom hasn`t been here persistent self trying to wake him up to talk, he would have been gone by now.

I was just wondering if everyone on this team was doing well. I lost 8 pounds and have gained it all back already. I keep telling myself that Friday I will get back on track because I don't see that happening on Thanksgiving day or today. But I know when Friday comes it will be Saturday, Sunday, Monday or never.

I'm so down. My signature says that the only failure is to quit trying. Today I feel like a failure.
