Yep. My son and his wife are both soldiers stationed there. I've tried to encourage them to stay there until their retirement... some 13 years from now. :) Why... I've already lined up my itinerary of things to see and do 'next time' should I get the chance!

One of the characteristics that makes a team work is participation. How I love to see that this is a class team where the members are helping one another! Sharing enriches us all!

Well... I'm back home from my month visiting my elder son and his wife in Hawaii. How strange it feels to wear a sweatshirt and hear the furnace running when just the other day I was sweltering in capris and a sleeveless blouse!

This was the longest trip I'd ever taken, a challenge with my arthritis and fibromyalgia. And... I loved it! I've slept almost all of yesterday and then today slept until almost noon. Why? Because I had no sleep for 26-27 hours Tuesday/Wednesday and needed to catch up a bit. Somehow I did answer a few of your emails. Am down to less than a handful in my inbox.

Carol

HI team!! I am glad to have found you. I can tell from all the Topics grandmasam has posted she is on top of things and wont let us fail. It will only be our own failing. I was happy to see most of the questions asked on this thread to have been answered first in our teams START HERE thread. but it is nice to see our team mates are here to help each other out. I am just checking in for the first time on this team, I got lost in all the stuff to do on this site, but now that I have found you guys, I dont feel so overwhelmed and lost. I look forward to learning and growing with each of you.

I've lost 2.5 pounds in my first week. My mini-goal is to be down below 200 by Monday, which is my birthday. That's only another pound to go, but it will be difficult as the birthday celebrations have already begun.

(Dinner with my grandparents last night=wine and cake. Dinner with my parents on siblings this coming Sunday will surely include cake, though I'll pass on the wine. And I'm sure my man has something planned as well, though I'm the cook of the family, so probably no cake. :p)

Even if I don't quite reach it, I'm still very proud. :)

All the best Carol!

We'll eat breakfast together this week Foliage...it's a date!

DEBALEEHAYES if want the tracker at the bottom of your messages, you need to access it through your Sparkpage. You can select sparkpages from the community heading. Under editing your sparkpage towards the bottom of the page you'll see the option to select and show your tracker. Hope this helps!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone!

I'll be offline for days - probably the rest of the week. Am returning home on a flight tomorrow, but don't expect to be back to norm for several days. Today was busy and I'm glad I have a window seat so I can sleep. Will see you as soon as I can!

Good goals, Amina. I've been taking vitamins since July, and I'm amazed at how much better I feel. I always thought I got what I needed, but I guess not. I've recently started taking Omega-3s as well. Haven't noticed anything, but I've read up on it so I think I'll stick with it.

I'm going to steal your idea and make eating breakfast my goal for this week. :)

try the sparks fitness exercise videos, just pick which area you want and watch it through and then do it again and join in, and it is free, and over the week you get exercises for all the body emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

morning all, hope everyone has had a nice few days... today in NE is beautiful! Sunny and the foliage is gorgeous. I took my two labs for a walk in the woods this AM about 50 min so that was good. I have been using the nutrition tracker this week and it is absolutely fantastic, it helps me stay right on task! Now I need to get motivated to go out and do some yard work. I would much prefer to curl up and read a book!!HA.. Have a good day!

Well today I was hungry and remembered to drink water to help, also got busy making over a recipe from here, lower and calories and salt reduction. I am setting up a new calorie tracking book, has place for salt intake and much more comprehensive. I made it to my water aerobics class and my arthritis class as well Friday for two hours, had a great workout. I am going to Joshua Tree tomorrow and taking my horse for a ride, hope to get a few good photos I can share here on Sparks :)

I hope everyone has a good weekend! I will be decorating, playing with my dog, and cleaning the house. And I need to buy a scale this weekend to see if I have lost anything. I have no clue! I hope I have. But I wanted to wish everyone well!

I totally agree with you, I think if we keep in touch, we can help each other stay motivated. I am motivated right now.. but in the back of my head I keep hearing, yes.. but you have done this before.. so I need to keep that devil at bay!

FOLLIAGE, re-check the information you put into the site for calculations. The weight, your goal date and weight are used. Remember that this is an averaged calculation.

About the high end. Consider that your going-out-to-dinner extreme and it's ok. Chances are you'll stay from low-end to mid-range.

Quite a few people have asked me about the weight ticker, and til today I've replied via SparkMail to them. However, today I added information to the section.... Ok, team: figure out which forum might have it... and then look for the 'tips' topic! Remember: only the 3 most recently responded-to topics appear on our team page; one must click the forum's name to see all topics in that forum.

Today is a day for some sightseeing, so I'll be doing some walking! Going to Pearl Harbor. Not a scene of happiness but a must-do for me. (As I write this, it's 9:20 am here, and 3:20 pm back home...)

Hi team. :) I joined yesterday and am still trying to navigate the site. It's huge!

My calorie count seems rather high. Not what I'm eating, but what they recommend. Is this because I've given myself a bit more than a year to lose the weight? (58 pounds) Or should I really not be eating less than 1380 calories per day? I always sort of thought when dieting you should aim for ~1200. I knos you don't want to starve yourself or anything, but 1380 seems awful high, especially since my "high end" is 1730...when I thought women were supposed to eat around 1600 to maintain.

Just kind of confused here.

Hi all, I am also new this week, I actually "joined" on Wednesday and spent some time yesterday making sure that I logged my food and exercise. I am really looking for some help to make this a lifelong success. I have lost weight before, only to gain again and am tired of it. I have two teenage children and a wonderful husband. I am interested in learning more about food selection and cooking while being 1) health 2) not too many calories or fat and 3) budget friendly. Any suggestions would be great. Joan

Sheila, have you read your Start Page and the Guide dto Getting Started (access on the Start Page)?? These outline much, but time, trial and patience are what it takes to get used to things.

Did you check out the section in the other forum about message boards and starting??

The site is HUGE. I've heard that the Spark emails have been slow or dysfunctional, but you'll soon - if not yet - be receiving emails from Spark that give you direction and information.

The purpose of class teams is to make sure that everyone who joins during a given week will share experiences, help one another. There are two leaders, but very often the new members themselves have the answers from one another!

Wonderful to see you and Sue have linked as friends; having diet buddies can help a lot!

Hi all. I've read many of your comments (and emails!) and am so impressed with the enthrusiasm I see. SP has put the tools in here for us to use... and for free!... so using every one of them to learn about it makes good sense.

Next week I'll be returning home to upstate NY... after 5 weeks in Hawaii, and learning the meaning of jet lag from the 6-hour time difference, not to mention long flights and layovers.

The first weeks here were hard because I was worried how my son's spinal surgery would be. He's now walking with a cane and starting to eat again. On the long road to recovery!

So now I can return home as their life gets back in order. While I'll miss the warm air and my son, his wife and of course their cute Labradoodle puppy, I do look forward to being home again. The leaves are in their Autumn glory at home now. Fall is a great time to take a walk outdoors, too.

Many of the things I miss while here in Hawaii are part of my new lifestyle. If I lived here, I could replace them or cope, but...

I miss exercising at a pool (physical therapy) where I spend an hour 3 times a week.

At home I drink a lot of water but the water here isn't as good as home so I look forward to good tap water again.

But oddly what I miss most of all are the lower grocery prices and greater selection of produce, meats and dairy at home. Since my son and his wife are both soldiers, they get a break, but I've spent way too much money when I surprised them with buying and preparing meals. (After a few weeks, I finally started taking my d-in-law shopping so we could use the commissary!)

I hope everyone will take part in the challenges below.

Carol

Hi everyone! So today was my second day and so far, so good. Right now all I want to do is meet my FastBreak goals and work on making exercise a habit. I met all of that yesterday, and today looks good so far. Good luck you guys!

Greetings. I am new to this site so forgive me if I am slow to responding. I have been fighting this weight battle for years and I will continue to fight until I win the war. I joined the site in search of support and knowledge; I am tired of paying for information. emoticon

Just wanted to say good morning/afternoon/evening to everyone. Yesterday was a good day, except that I had a handful of raisins after dinner -- this is why tracking food is SO important: almost 500 calories for a cup. Wow -- I.m pretty good about food/calories but had no idea raisins were so high! Well, it took me over by 100 calories, but better to have extra in raisins than in empty calories!

Have a great day everyone -- get your exercise in!

Hi Lorna,
I am in UK as well, from Derbyshire. where are you?
Don't know about the scales, sorry, but have you tried looking on the internet? Don't know what they go up to in Boots stores for weighing there, they are usually by the pharmacy dept. so they may know. I have WW scales, don't actually know what they go up to but I was 272 when I started and they weighed that

Hello everybody, I suppose most of you are still in bed. I am in the UK and it is 9.30 a.m here
I have been on spark since April but have changed everything and started again. I have lost total of 33lbs but have a long way to go, need to shake up a bit.
I am happily married, with 2 grown up married sons and a beautiful 5 year old grandaughter.
I don't work outside the home, so I can have grandaughter sometimes in school holidays(share with other gran)
look forward to getting to know you
