Sorry I didn't see you'd responded til just now!

Glad you're sticking to your resolve!

There is no quick-fix to leading a healthy lifestyle; it's a life-long journey. Do you find that you came with one or a few goals and then many others emerged? I did! After 8+ years here, I often wonder about members of class teams I've led; so frequently, people come and poof that it's truly a joy to again 'see' someone who is a true Spark Person! :)

Just wondering after all these years how many from this date (joiners on Oct 5-11 2008) are still active. I am still here and still working on staying healthy.

My name is Jeanne (pronounced Jean ee); I live in eastern Washington State.

Today is minus 30 pounds since I've been back. May they NEVER EVER RETURN again!!!! I'm getting to old, to keep losing those same pounds. They say with age comes wisdom, so God and I should be able to keep it off this time.

Jeanne, that is GREAT! The slower, the healthier the loss; and... slow loss means less chance of excess baggy skin! So to ME, your progress is sensible and ideal!

Just looking back over the last 5 years...I keep thinking I haven't accomplished much, but slow and steady has helped me lose 40 pounds in those years. Not a little thing, even if it happened gradually.

Yap, that's right, our upcoming flight to San Diego.

The end of Nov. our son will graduate from the Marine Coop. So I need to get this 20" bum in an 18" seat.

Say prayers for me.

HAPPY SPARK emoticon ANNIVERSARY!!!

I've not looked at your SparkPage yet, and do want to know: how are you doing? Have you found solid 'community' in a team or is your greatest site-use more on the tools and articles?

Still here! Well...I haven't been on this site for a while but I'm still around.

I have to admit...I just reread my last post and I'm STILL in the same spot. I'm now thinking on WHY that is.

How are you doing? I'm interestd to see how others are doing and what has helped them have success.

Robin, you are exactly right!
It MUST come from within each of us.
This site, the tools, friends here and in real life (real life? what is that?) are all...tools. Assists.

Oh, they are more, yes, but in terms of our goals?
It is definitely something inside that will get us where we want to be.

A goal without action is like a wish or dream.
Goals cannot exist without action.
But words are easier than putting the thought into motion.
That's where the tools and other people come in handy.
When friends say "how can I help? what can I do?", it is really an invitation for you to include their efforts or expertise in your toolbox for goal attainment.

One reason I do blogs a lot is that while I'm expressing thoughts, people give me feedback and cheers. I need that feedback. Otherwise, it's so danged lonely because there is no one in my 'real' life who works as hard as I do with so few visible results.

To me, doing the best I can to be healthy, to eat in a healthy way - not just calorie count but also quality of nutrients injested! - is the focus. My limits in exercise due to disability issues (fibromyalgia, arthritis on spine) are a huge drawback for me in weightloss. People cannot SEE the improvements I've made, though my doctors reads numbers that reveal a great turnaround! Ok, not the ones on the dagnabbit scale, but the ones that really are important.

Over time I've come to realize that in my case, focus on those things is actually more important and also that the loss of pounds and inches will eventually catch up. As much as I'd LIKE them to catch up in tangible progress? Realistically, probably not. There's that exercise/metabolism issue again rearing its ugly head. Last year that realization really bothered me for a few months. But the fact remained that I am doing the best I can, being the best I can. And ... I'm comfortable with that even though I still reach for better-LOOKING results.

SP Diet Stage 3 - attacking our habits - is the biggie for me.

I know that many of our weight issues are sitting right there in old ingrained habits that we don't even realize are holding us back for the simple reason that they're such a part of our lifestyles that we haven't replaced them. So periodically I return to Stage 3 and re-analyze my ways of doing things again. It helps. But only because something inside of me says "OK, I've had enough; I'm going into attack mode on this issue!"

So. I'm here for my friends - you guys - whenever I can somehow say something, give an idea, or say Woo Hoo.

Please note:
If you blog something important to you, shoot me a SparkMail to read it, because I might miss it otherwise!

Thanks Carol.

I haven't given up. I don't feel that way. Even though...I've only ever lost 20-25lbs at a time, max. The thought has never left my mind, thought of being healthy or wanting to be healthier.

A friend who is a personal trainer and doing her masters on obesity issues always has asked me the same thing. What can I do? How can I help? She always says name it and I'll do it.

I really think that want has to come from somewhere deep within. That's my mindset right now anyway. What do you guys think?

What I did like about the "other" site...and perhaps it here someplace and I just haven't found it. I found myself cruising the "sucess stories" A LOT. Especially when I was having a "low" day. I found that looking at other peoples success and hearing their stories really really helped and was motivating.

I think back to what gave me sucess in the past. Was the community feel and outlet for sites like this. Seeing results no matter how small. And just FEELING healthier.

I am spread pretty thin these days. Work (although its not a stressful job), family, and I'm pursuing my degree part time. It leaves little time for all else...YET I do find myself sitting on the computer playing scrabble on FB, watching the odd episode of whatever is on TV.

I think its my mindset that I can't have a good workout without making it a big gym production.

I bought a heart rate monitor, wait, my husband bought me a heart rate monitor for my bday this year. I found myself doing whatever I could to burn up a few hundred calories to stay under calorie goal. I'd run up and down the stairs and I burned it up pretty quickly. I guess I need to remind myself...its not a MOUNTAIN. Babysteps will get me there.

Thank you for the continious support!

What counts is that you are both HERE.
What tools on the site would best help you??

I've been using the new "LiveMind" connection for a few months; there is a cost of $12.99 per month but it's cheaper than attending WW or other groups and has a focus that is based on issues rather than just some gimmicky way of counting points (I went to WW last year and just could not get the whole point system...). If you want to try it the first week is no charge I think. Every week there is a topic which is discussed at every "class". Some people go on their webcams, but we use microphones, listen to the "teacher" (a member who is a leader and uses a set plan that flexes with our input), and discuss whatever comes to mind. There is a running live chat-screen and at the end a downloadable 'take-home'. We can attend as many times during the week as we want/can. For me the personal connection is an asset. Thought I'd mention it if either of you think that doing this would add some umph to your efforts.

I am one of the leaders of the 55+ Females team, and find that leading helps me stay on track.

There's a good team that has lots of daily input that is worth considering. The Dany Lions team has a link from my SparkPage. I joined because a 'teacher' I like who is incredibly motivating (has lost over 100 pounds and transformed her life!) is one of the leaders. What is kewl there is that they have ongoing challenges that motivate. The team is made up of all age groups which has much merit too!

But if you gals want this team to be more active, just say the word. If you want to step up and be leaders, it can be re-shaped to help you achieve your goals. I keep the team active as a home base for everyone in case anyone wants to do that. Just say the word!

I'm still hanging in. I haven't been to this site in a while. I went away after getting virus attacks from the message boards. It was an unusual happening but I couldn't take the chance on my computers! Work and home. I gave it a bit of time. I was using another site that a few of my friends were on. Thinking of coming back here...I can't help but love the community feel.

I have to say. I haven't made much progress in terms of weight loss. Booo. But it never strays too too far from my mind.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO EVERYONE WHO IS STILL HERE!!!

------
Jeanne, since I'm the original tortoise, my visible progress is slow too. I've been here almost 4.5 years. But I've changed so much in my lifestyle that while the weight-loss is small, the actual change is immense!

When progress is slow I try to change things around. And a few months ago I heard of a then-pilot program that I now continue to do...because it's really helping me.... Have you heard of LiveMind? There's a recent blog about it with links; www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?post=spa
rk
people_live_brings_the_support_meetiR>ng_to_you
.

Unlike everything here on SP's site, there IS a cost (of $12.99 per month), but I have been doing it instead of going to a weight group like WW or TOPS and find the support is in sync with what I do, is LIVE (microphone, cameras, and real-time chat box), and helping me. And it's the cheapest support group for me. It's run like a 'class' to provide structure and a topic, but members share whatever is topmost of concerns or woohoos. It's real-time SUPPORT. And unlike many messages, things we say are addressed, sometimes much more fully than if we leave messags in our teams. Worth a try if you want an extra boost!

Of Course!

This team continues to exist even for a year (more?) of no one even posting. I'll receive notices when items are posted but a new team usually occupies HOURS a day of personal SparkMails and postings on the team. So I might easily miss postings here.

I'm ALWAYS available by SparkMail, and will be checking that more than any of my teams in the coming month.

SUGGESTION:
Anyone who wants to jump-start his/her journey can join the new team. I go through the Stages anew each time I lead a class team (this is my 3rd). What's interesting is that I grow from the contact with new people whose focus is learning the site, because I get ideas for myself from them!

If you join the team let me know ok?

A great week, thanks for asking.

I'm excited because the granddaughter are spending the weekend with us. They are growing up so fast. Emma will be 5 this month and Allie will be a year old in June. We pick them up after Emma's T-ball game this afternoon. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Hi Candy! Happy Mothers Day to you too!
I'm enjoying reading your daily quotes with comments in your blog! Though I don't often have time to reply, they are wonderful food for thought; thank you for keeping them up this way. 102?!!! wow, that is commitment!!

Hi Phyllis! I'm having a good week. :) How about you??

Went to a TOPS meeting tonight and Spread the Spark by talking to the group about how SP can help them stay in touch when they miss meetings, and more: I've created a private team for them to use just for members of that chapter of TOPS. I hope they use the team, because combining SP with an in-person meeting would be fantastic! Here's hoping!

I'll be leading another class team soon: the SP Class Team of May 31 - June 6, 2009. I'd made a pledge to myself to lead one class team a year. Watching new members discover how the site can empower them energizes and motivates ME. So while the class team leaders only 'commit' to 30 days, I consider class teams open and active as long as anyone wants to be there.

So. Today I spread the Spark. And kept my pedometer on as I continued to focus on walking to increase my step-count to be closer to what it NEEDS to reach! It all adds up to positive feelings!

It has rained pretty much every day for a month here. I think I need to just ignore it, get some rain gear and return to my walking! My dogs hate the rain, but they like walking more.

Grandma Sam good for you that is a good number for anyone. Since I can't walk outside by my self I can walk all I want to in the house and that is fun to do for me. Staying on my feet is helping my ankle to not hurt so bad when it rains or gets cold.

Candy, I'm so impressed with your walking!! Funny how we each are in different places, have different goals and yet... when I read your step counts I feel like cheering for you even though I grin in joy at my numbers today... which are about 1/3 your step-count! (Hey, I'm over 5,000 steps today!)

Grandma Sam Yes, when I started wearing it I was walking at 10,000 steps. I had been walking for several months when I started wearing it. I think you are right I was probably walked between 5,000 and 10,000 steps.

Hello all...

Beautiful morning here. Dogs are jumping at the door. Guess I should get off the computer and take them for a nice walk.

Everyone have LUCKY health today.

GrandmaSam I think what I needed is somewhere to have a big group of people help me to do it. The DIET STAGES did help me to make what I knew an internal part of me.

Candy have you noticed that over the months here you understand things differently? Like diet advice you probably knew by heart for years... suddenly has significance in a different way? That happened to me. I really think that WORKING through those Diet Stages is what did the trick for me: instead of just knowing facts, I was absorbing them and their lessons became part of my way of thinking.
