Good morning, This is the 1st anniversary of Daddy's passing. Mom posted some of his favorite quotes. As you can tell by her typing this isn't a real good day for her. She did say she was going to try to go to work at the library today but has asked another volunteer to stay with her.

Good morning, I'm off today and looking forward to taking Mutt and walking the kinks out of this old body.

Beka came home yesterday and said her teacher suggested she read Tom Sawyer and Hunk Finn. Since they have rewritten these 2 classics to make them politically correct. Some that have read the "new" additions say they ruined the classics and the writing isn't Mark Twain's. I found Hunk Finn for Kindle on Amazon, but was having trouble find Tom Sawyer, when Beka came running in "look what I found" she had the copy of Tom Sawyer her father had won in '87 for winning a reading contest.

Morning Dog House -- Big storm front going through our area with thunderstorms predicted late in the day. It is very humid and it feels "unsettled". Several tornadoes in states around S.C. Here is the rest of the list of reasons to seek help for your pets: #6 It is very important to observe your pet's elimination behaviors. Frequent urination can indicate a variety of sneaky and serious health issues ranging from diabetes to urinary tract infections to kidney failure. Changes in a pet's bowel movements can indicate anything from simple parasitic infections to intestinal disease to bleeding in the digestive system. #7 Bad breath can indicate teeth problems or a virus or a digestive problem. #8 Persistent coughing may be a sign of asthma or other lung disorders or heart worms or something caught in the throat. Wheezing or sneezing may indicate nasal blockages or even heart disease. #9 Itching can be due to food allergies, environmental allergies, or external parasites. Yeast infections are common in pets if they have to lie in moist conditions. #10 Pets vomit due to overeating or excitement or nervousness, but it could also be poisoning or a serious illness. In dogs, wretching repeatedly can indicate a twisted bowel or stomach. These tips are brought to you by the Harmony Fund International Animal Rescue -- one of the sponsors of Care2 Causes.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled."
– Plutarch

Good morning. I go in at 9 this morning, but it is only a 4 hour day. My weight is going the wrong way. I really think it is these crazy hours. My body doesn't know when to eat, so I eat all the time and I'm too tired to resist. Daddy's birthday is Friday and Sat is a year since his passing. That isn't helping much.

Beka is reminding me how it was raising her father. Beka put put down your book and eat breakfast. Beka time to put down the book and get ready for school. Beka it's bed time, no you can't read another chapter before bed. Beka put down your book, turn out the ligh and go to sleep.

Morning Group -- It is super (soup-er) foggy here. Several accidents already on the major roads. Crazy weather pattern again all across the nation -- brief warm-up and then another cold slam. There are a few bulb plants trying to peak out of the soil right now and I even have one iris blooming. Not so busy this week, so will share a few news items with you. Today is "10 Signs That Your Pet May Need Veterinary Care": #1 Restlessness -- if your pet is normally quiet and observes the household pattern of eating/sleeping/playing on a regular basis, it is a warning sign if they start wandering at night or become agitated or anxious. Quite often the animal is trying to tell you that they are in pain or they are worried about something. #2 Unusual ways of getting your attention -- frequent barking or meowing that is uncharacteristic for your pet may signal distress in the animal. If the normal methods of calming your pet do not work, seek some help for the animal -- they could have skin problems, hearing problems, ear mites, etc. #3 Changes in body presentation and posture -- a new sitting pose or not using a limb or limping or sleeping in a strange position could signal a major change in internal or external condition. There could be stomach problems or strained muscles or joint swelling. #4 Hesitation to jump or climb or run -- a dog who begins to hesitate before jumping into a vehicle or onto the bed or fails to chase his favorite toy may be experiencing arthritis, hip dysplasia or even early signs of neurological disease. Early intervention can aid the pet in coping with these problems. #5 Going into hiding or becoming quiet -- if your normally social pet starts seeking a more quiet place or starts sleeping more, this can be a red flag indicating some form of pain or infection. The pet may have swallowed an object or bruised a body part or may be having abdominal distress. Have this checked out if the symptom persists. (to be continued...)

When Beka was 6 she was watching a dog show. When they got to best of show, she got upset and said they forgot the mutt division. I told her only pure breeds where in the dog show. She told me that we had a pure breed American Mutt.

Morning Mixed Mutt Group! Only in the 40s here, but is supposed to be thirty degrees warmer in the next couple of days before it drops back down in temp. Finally made it to the AKC Dog Show -- beautiful dogs of all types, but I love my "mixes". Talked with several breeders and owners of purebred dogs -- so many problems with temperment, grooming, and health conditions if they are bred to maintain a certain set of characteristics. The S.C. dog is a Boykin Spaniel that is really a mix of several types of water dogs. Our dog is a Boykin/Labrador mix and he isn't the hyper type of dog that the Boykin is now. People give them up because they are hard to train and need lots of attention and are constantly on the move. I watched the judging of several groups of yellow and black labs. They are quite popular around here because this is a big hunting area for waterfowl. We used to have purebred labradors -- all colors. The main problem with labs. is that they get hip dysplasia. Hope your doggies are enjoying the end of January and are staying frisky and well!

Morning Group -- Wanted to go to a dog show yesterday, but went with my son and GD to the park instead. We went up a big hill and played in the playground and watched the dogs in the dog park. They finally separated the big dogs from the little ones in the field area because a big dog killed a small dog about a year ago. The big dogs fight with one another, but at least they are matched in size. It isn't easy to break up a dog fight by yourself unless you can use water or some loud noise. Our GD would love to have a pet, but their lives are too busy to have something else to feed and the pet would be left alone for long periods. I enjoy watching her make friends with the dogs at the park and also children that she meets. It is hard to be an only child. Her parents give her lots of attention, but she wants to be able to have someone to play with -- not too many children in her neighborhood. I am going to church and then maybe I'll go to the end of the dog show. It is in the 40s today, but should warm up to the 60s by mid-day. The neighbor's old dog spent the night on our porch -- I bundled him up in quilts to keep him warm. It was about 30 degrees at daybreak. Hope you are having a good week-end and can set some positive goals for the coming week. I really must get out and walk more and make sure that Brett gets his walk everyday, no matter if it is cold or rainy or windy! The kitties like the cold weather -- it seems to charge them up!

I think I'd rather find a dead mouse in the house, then a live one. So far, the only ones we've caught have been away from where the dog would've seen them (in a cupboard.) I bet that was a funny show with the puppies & the mouse.

I went to a 2 hour Zumba fundraiser last night. It was lots of fun, and kicked my butt....as I am not used to doing more than an hour at a time. DD, of course, thought that the extra hour was NOTHIN'. Of course. Well, at least, it helped me get a good nights sleep for once. LOL

Good morning. Freyja found a small mouse in the house. Now I have no problem with her playing with a mouse. I do have a problem if she looses it or kills it and leaves in the middle of the living room, she has done that too. Well she cornered the mouse in my shoe. I garbed the shoe by a lace and throw it in the yard. The neighbors puppies saw me and as the mouse ran out of the shoe, the puppies got all excited about a new toy. Never saw puppies play with a mouse. I think they were a little afraid of it at first. Anyway the poor thing never had a chance and DH and I loved he show.

Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Good morning, It is 2 weeks early, but I've started working at loosing the weight I gained during the year the DR told me to not diet, but morn daddy. He said I was the type that would gain 20+ pounds, well i kept it down, I gained 9 pounds. Wal-Mart isn't helping much. Working till 11 one day and going in at 9 the next makes me so tired I nibble and having breakfast at 7 and because it was a 5 hour day, don't get lunch, so lunch is at 4P. I'm so hungry I eat and eat.

Beka's mother had a complete brake down. She is in the hospital till she can be moved to a woman's rehap. Kellie is bi poler. Beka is taking it hard. She says it is all her fault. She is the only one that takes care of Mommy and if she had stayed home and taken care of her this wouldn't have happen. Most of you know that you can't always take care of someone is bi poler. An 11 year old shouldn't be worried about taking care of mommy.

It's been frigid cold here in Michigan this week. Yesterday the high was 17. Day before that, the high was 12. I've bundled up in 2 layers of clothing, hats & gloves...and ventured out a LIL bit. One can't stay out in it too long. First day, it was about going out to fill bird feeders and play ball with the pup. 2nd day was about attempting a short walk. We only made it a 1/2 mile. The freezing temps are hard on the lungs. When they mentioned it warming up to 38 & 40 next week.....that sounds WARM. Funny thing about perspective, huh? emoticon

Greetings Group -- It is almost dinnertime, so this will be a short note. Can't believe there has been another school shooting -- it never seems to end. The college where I used to work had bomb threats all the time, but none were ever found until this year (right before Christmas). People need to find better ways to vent their anger and settle differences. Very sad to hear about a young boy who killed all of his family last week -- he had been thinking about it for awhile, but didn't tell anyone. It was cold here last night, but not down in the low 20s as predicted. Sorry to hear about the brutal cold in the mid-Western states (30 and 40 degrees below zero). Hard to put that news into the "global warming" category, but I know it is a pattern. It was sunny all day and my DH and I took Brett for a short walk this afternoon. I had lunch with a friend that I haven't seen for about 2 months. There is a dog show this week-end with mostly purebred dogs, but some mutts will be competing in different categories. Enjoy the rest of the week and share how you are doing with your exercising and food choices.

Good morning, I didn't get much done yesterday. I had a short day at work, but I worked till 11P last night and went in at 9A in the morning. Then i had breakfast at 7A and didn't have lunch at 4P. Not a good idea for eating either. I was soo tired couldn't seam to stop eating. Word of warning if it has been 8 hours since your last meal and you go grocery shopping you buy stupid stuff.

It is a small world. I live Southwest of Houston. Yesterday one of the unknown authors I follow wrote that her daughter was at the collage in Northwest collage that had the shooting yesterday. The author later posted that her daughter had been on the other side of campus.

Hello Mutt Lovers -- Trying to get back on track with housework, exercise, etc. Haven't felt too great for several days, so my activities have been limited. We checked on our friend who fell and hit his head -- he seems to be doing okay. The weather is much colder and our coldest night will be tonight. It makes the animals restless -- they are in and out much more than usual. A horrible thing happened yesterday morning -- I kept seeing huge shadows when I was at the kitchen sink -- seven buzzards were flying back and forth in our yard. One of them had snatched up some roadkill and dropped it in our driveway. It was a battle between them to get the prize. Milo tried to bark and chase them away, but they weren't moving. It was like a scene from a bad horror movie. Finally they reduced the critter to just bits and flew away. The cats were terrified. My DH says they just "clean up" and aren't killers. They aren't pretty -- they are big enough to carry off a cat or small dog. I didn't want to go outdoors even after they left. Gosh, we are more than 3 weeks into the new year. Can't say that I have done much so far this year -- still putting away holiday items and trying to find things that I stuck away during December. Must get motivated and get back to a routine. Wishing you a great day without too much trauma or drama. The weather looks very cold in more than half of the country. Keep your buddies warm and cozy!

Good morning. Yesterday Beka and I walked the Mall. The stores weren't open, but it wasn't a fast walk. I was walking with an 11 year old, look grandma, hay isn't that pretty. Hay we were out of the house moving. Mutt and I took a real walk later. Well have to get moving. I need to wash cloths and have work this afternoon.

Morning group -- I have seen this day from early morning because we ended up in a local emergency room after taking an elderly friend and his date to a concert. The majority of the concert goers are elderly patrons, but the establishment only lets the "infirm" park close to the Performing Arts Center. Everyone who doesn't have a "sticker" on their vehicle's window must park approx. eight blocks away and walk (sometimes there is a shuttle, but we were late and they had stopped running). Our friend spent almost two weeks in a hospital between Thanksgiving and Christmas, losing almost thirty pounds (it was an stomach problem). He has been home for about two weeks and is staying alone. As we were leaving the Arts Center after the concert, he fell on the sidewalk, face forward. My husband was right next to him and couldn't catch him or buffer his fall -- he didn't stumble, he just pitched forward and ended up hitting his face and head. He needed stitches, so we took him to the closest E.R. after a nice policeman cleaned up his wounds and helped him to our van. We were in the E.R. from about 9:40 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. Finally got him home and the other friend stayed all night with him to make sure he didn't have a concussion. We are still angry that it is not possible to park closer to the concerts or even leave someone off at the front door of the building -- they block that access. We have one more concert of these season tickets, but I doubt that we will be taking our friends. I tried to explain the situation to the management, but they weren't interested. So, we are tired today and not doing much. We are praying that our friend isn't badly injured and that maybe it scared him enough that he will use a safety cane for walking. We also think that he shouldn't be living alone. He just turned 76 years old and lives in a big house by himself without any close neighbors. He also is having some senility issues. The concert was nice -- broadway and movie songs. A father and daughter team did some of the singing. Hope your week-end is going smoothly and you can stay "on track"!

Good morning, We are off to the mall for a walk. DH wants to go to Fry's for a min. Yah right, his min at fry's is an hour. The mall is close to fry's and Beka and I will walk.

The school nurse wrote Beka a note to give to her teachers. Carrying water battles to school is ageist the rules, but Beka is allowed to. Not in class but between.

Greetings Group -- Our weather did take a change from last week, so we are trying to adjust to almost 30 degree cooler temperatures. So good to hear that it was "only" dehydration as a problem for Beka. Not having enough fluids in your system at any age is a real hazard to your health -- the body cleans, stores, mixes, digests, heals, and transports nutrients via the water in our cells. If we don't drink enough, the blood gets too thick and all the organs have to work harder. It takes some adjustment for the body to work normally if it gets too "dry". If Beka doesn't like to drink just water, find some low sugar drinks that she can sip wherever she is -- juice is okay, but it should be diluted to at least 1/2 water. Drinking flavored water is fine if it is a taste she likes. She shouldn't go long periods without some type of fluid -- over 2 hours without a drink is too long for a growing child. Schools tend to limit liquids since they make the children have to eliminate. From the start of school until lunchtime can be a long period without drinking. The worst damage is to the kidneys if they aren't "flushed" frequently and girls tend to get urinary tract infections. Water is our friend -- if retention occurs, then the body says it is "full" -- no one likes to feel bloated or "heavy". We don't really outgrow our need for 'round the clock liquids -- seems like most adults would rather drink caffeine in their beverages and they don't set good examples for the younger generation. Wishing you a very pleasant week-end. The sun is shining and it is in the 60s here -- down to the 20s tomorrow night. The pets are all out in the sunshine and wanting to be outdoors.

Good morning, I'm back to work. One of Wal-Mart is up to it's I'm the boss nonsense. I was off 2 days, work today and off tomorrow.

Beka forgets to drink, but doesn't fight when you remind her. She just sees how fast she can drink a glass of water so she can forget it for awhile. The down size it her pants are tight.

Good morning, I'm off today and I need it. Mutt says we are going to walk all day.

So far only dehydration. I had no idea that dehydration could cause so many problems. Waiting on the results of blood work then a sports test. Dr wants to see all results before the sports test. Beka would need the sports test in 7th grade anyway, so we would be getting a head of time.

Getting to be bedtime, but wanted to say "hello". Sure hope all the lab. work and tests come out okay for Beka. We are getting a "jolt" in the weather -- it will be about 18 degrees cooler by this time tomorrow and then another 8 degrees colder the next day with rain predicted the next three days. It made it up to 80 degrees again today -- not good for the plants and the migrating birds, etc. -- their "clocks" say that something isn't right. Spent yesterday cleaning the clinic and organizing because members of the S.C. Clinic Assn. will be having a 3 hour meeting at the clinic on Friday. We have to prepare lunch for them, also. We tossed lots of things -- just don't have much storage room and people have been donating items that had been used (some not even cleaned). January is a good month for "tossing out the old" and putting things in order. I need to do that at my house. Decided to fix two meals tonight so I don't have to cook tomorrow evening -- it is just as easy to do that and only have to warm up the meal. We may have a school bus strike in our area -- the drivers have a union and their terms haven't been met. New York city is having the same problem. Hope your week is going well and you can chock up some walking miles. I've been cooped up most of this week and now the rain will keep me from getting out in the evenings. Take care, keep posting, give those pups a good scratch and a hug. Keep moving forward!

We are either progressing or retrograding all the while; there is no such thing as remaining stationary in this life.
James Freeman Clarke

Good afternoon I spent the day either sitting in Dr clinics or driving to the next one. I didn't know there was so many different clinics in so many different directions. I ran out of time before I could get to them all.

Pearland physical blood pressure changing lying to sitting to standing indicates dehydration
Pearland urine test no cancer, diabetes or kidney problems
Sugarland chest xray normal
Sugarland EKG results in 3 days
tomorrow
Frienswood blood test

Return to Dr in a week to find out results of blood test. Return to Dr a week later for sports test. Return to Dr a week later to see what it all means. At least the co worker that suggested this Dr to me did good. The Dr and all clinics are satiates of Texas Children's Hospital. One of the best children's hospital in the state.

Good morning I've been getting Beka Dr appointment. Her school nurse says her pulse stays too high. It could be stress or nicotine withdrawal, her mom smokes like a chimney in the house, or a problem that needs attention that is showing up as her hormones act up. Of course this has my worry wort husband thinking all kinds of things.

Old books, as you well know, are books of the world’s youth, and new books are the fruits of its age.

Good morning It is 40 degrees, 30 mile an hour winds and poring rain. Mutt wants a walk, Freyja wants to go on the porch and I need to go shopping.

Beka spent the weekend with her mother and will be back about noon. I asked for her early so I could wash her hair and come it out with a nit comb. I don't want to have to do the head lice thing every week.

I wasn't using my crock pot as much as I would like because so many things said to cook for 4 to 6 hours and I was going to be at work 8 hours and with drive time it would be 9 hours. I saw on a cooking show that I could go buy a fancy crock pot with a timer on it or I could get one of those $3 timers for your lights at the hardware store and set it. I got he timer and it worked great. I come home to a hot mea, just have to dish it up and quicker then "fast food". I'm vegetarian so have know idea about leaving meat out. One of our favorites is a stew of 1 can beans, frozen veggies and frozen stew starter, potatoes, onions and celery.

Morning Group -- Crazy weather here and we aren't sure what to do with sunshine and 80 degrees in January. Usually it is in the 50s with a few freezes at night. Our usual highs are the lows and it has brought in more fog. Elsewhere, there is rain, snow, sleet, tornadoes, etc. Feel kinda guilty running around in short sleeves and lighter clothing. I gave everyone hats, scarves, and gloves for our "cold weather". My DH is out fixing the front porch which has managed to sustain a lot of damage from wet weather -- the boards were not treated. The guy who built our house was from Alaska -- we have lots of insulation and he built things to last, but wasn't aware that hot/mugginess and rain all year from thunderstorms can cause lasting damage. Love reading the quotes, Mary Alice, and so glad to hear that Beka is doing better. Our grandson in California is going through lots of trauma since his parents' divorce. He is only 5 years old. He can only see his father (our son) two evenings during the week and every-other-weekend. It is so sad to hear that he cries when he has to go back to his mother. There is an older boy (high schooler) and a toddler in that home and new men to adjust to that don't have much patience for a moody kindergarten kid who wants his father. I wish I was closer to them so I could help with the situation. The DIL who lives near us doesn't think that grandparents are important -- we rarely see the grand-daughter who is only 20 minutes from our home. The other grandmother doesn't get to see her very much, either. Hope there are some sunshine moments in your new year and your venture to get healthier and thinner is taking shape. I walked yesterday, but didn't take Brett. He wanted to go with my husband. This week, I purchased the new 2013 edition of "Eat This -- Not That" because I do go to fast food places when I don't feel like cooking. Just brousing through the little book makes me aware that I need to dust off my crockpot and my low calorie cookbooks and spend more time in the kitchen. Here are a few examples: eating one cookie a day can add 5.5 pounds over a total year if you don't exercise more; 40% of children 2-5 years of age only have fruit in the form of juice and most juices contain added sugar; most packaged and frozen dinners for toddlers add up to 17 teaspoons of sugar to tempt the children to consume the products; 28% of the "veggies" that American say they consume are "French fries"; 79% of the corn that the average American says he/she eats is in the form of additives, not fresh; a small serving of sweet potato fries that have become so popular have 450 calories, 21 grams of fat, and the daily recommendation of salt. I'll share more of this book through the next few weeks. Meanwhile, I think I will go fix a bowl of oatmeal, instead of having a bowl of dry cereal (instant oatmeal has 120 calories per serving and only 2 grams of fat whereas most of the dry cereals I buy that say "natural" have 400 calories per serving and 12 grams of fat). Have a great day -- hug those doggies and treat them to some exercise. For those of you in stormy weather and dark days, let your pets have more light because they are prone to the effects of lack of sunshine just like people.

Beka helped me pick the Quote today. This was her favorite.

Good morning and it is good. Beka eat her lunch, dinner yesterday and breakfast this morning. No they weren't as good as I would like, but they weren't junk.

Last night Beka asked if I would get permeant custody of her. I asked her why and she had 4 or 5 real good reasons, but knowing her mother, I suggested that when Beka talked to her mother she talked about her school. Beka has been asked by several teachers to go into advanced classes, but her mother has moved before she could. Kellie talks about wanting Beka to go to collage, I thought maybe Kellie would take it better if she though if it more as Beka was in boarding school.

I have three loads of laundry to do and 3 inches of water under the cloths line, and it is suppose to be cloudy today then rain for 4 days. I have the first load in the washer and am looking for places I can hang things.

Hello Doggy Group -- Sounds like life is just chugging along and you have to get through a lot of stuff to make it through the day. Sunny here at the moment, but it is supposed to rain off and on for several days. Blessings to Beka regarding her problems with having to adjust to a new setting and not eating much -- children do like to control their circumstances via what they eat. Had meetings yesterday at the clinic and need to run errands this afternoon. Our DIL in Florida was on a 3-day running event -- luckily our son works from home so he can keep the kids going. This run was a team effort -- there were twelve women on the team. Hope you are finding good fruits and veggies to eat this time of year -- so many of the grocery items come from other countries now. Eat carefully, get lots of rest, sneak in some exercise -- all good habits to avoid catching all the "bugs" that are going around. I was a school nurse about 40 years ago -- there were head lice then and they seem to be just as hard to control these days. Not fun to deal with such critters!

We cannot afford not to fight for growth and understanding, even when it is painful, as it is bound to be.
May Sarton

Good morning. It is still raining off and on, but had stopped raining when it was time to walk Beka to the bus stop, so I put Mutt on the leash and we walked her to the end of the road. When she was on her way to school we continued her walk. Maybe not the best to have a 5 min break in your walk, but it is suppose to rain all day, it wasn't raining and I was already out.

Beka collapsed during PE. Beka's mother had told me she hadn't eaten in 4 days. Beka doesn't eat, yes she will snack on junk all day if I'll let her, but refuses breakfast and picks at lunch only eating dinner. I called DS. He lives 2000 miles away, but had her a couple weeks during the summer and thought he might have run into the same problem. He told me a couple fruits she would nibble on, that she would eat whole wheat crackers with cream cheese and eat raw veggies dipped in ranch dressing. Not the best, but a good start.

Good morning, I think. I got home at 11:30 last night and got up at 6 this morning so I can take beka to get her registered for school. So no I'm not sleeping.

Think of lice as humans flees. They look like flees, bite like flees and spread like flees, but no dogs and cats can't get them.

Gracious MaryAlice! Head lice! Can the animals contract it? Poor Beka. Seems like an important thing her mama should've told you! Hope y'all had fun at the party! I'm afraid I would've made a pig of myself there!

Lennie-- All kids just want to grow up too bad! I long to be 3 again. Sounds like Lily enjoyed her day.

I had a very bad weekend. Alot of tears, alot of the reality sinking in. Jack was my constant companion. Earlier today he licked some tears off my face. I did manage to go do a bit of grocery shopping. I start back to work tomorrow. Oh boy.

Afternoon Mutt Lovers -- Have been to church and now am catching up on some e-mails. Will have to read the blog about Beka, so I know what is going on! Thanks for all of the quotes, Mary Alice. Very gloomy day here -- made it up to 55 degrees as a high. Yesterday I helped with pet therapy at an assisted living home -- good gathering of the residents and pets (2 dogs and 4 cats). My outside kitties are staying indoors today and they are very grateful. Off to the landfill/dump in a little while to get ride of some limbs and yard trimmings. Got to see my GD yesterday as she and her father were going to the park to do some bike riding -- she is only 5 years old, but she wanted her training wheels removed. She isn't quite ready for that, but she did okay riding on a grassy hill. She was much happier playing with a little girl her age that showed up at the tire swings -- both girls were in pigtails and they looked so cute. We pulled Lily away from the playground to get some ice cream. It was starting to get too chilly to be outdoors. Tell what has changed in your life since the start of the new year -- we always start out hopeful that things will be better, easier, cheaper, more fun, etc. I am grateful that my hip pain has eased a bit -- it is hard to just lay around when you can't walk!

Good morning. last night Beka said "look what i found" and showed my a loose, head lice. So first thing this morning I was off to get stuff for head lice. Kelly called and asked what I was doing and when i told her said oh I forgot to tell you I have head lice. Well you know what I've been doing all morning. Good thing it looks like we caught it early.

Good morning. I have a big day today. I need to get Beka's school supplies and kid type foods for a conniver. Then I'm taking Beka to a birthday party. This will be a challenge for me. There will be Mexicans, Americans and Belizens there. My niece is Belizen and they like their food, so there will be 3 buffets. Beka will stick out as the only as the only blue eyed blond.

Last night Beka and I were watching tours of Europe castles. When they were going though The Spencer Castle, where Lady Di was born, they showed a long thin room. They said all castles had them but no one paid much attention to them as they weren't decorated and had very little furniture. They reason for the room, all ladies were expected to exercise, most of the time it was 1 hour walks though the gardens, but when the weather was bad they took their exercise inside. Long walks back in forth in the long room.

I'm glad you thought to get her enrolled in school! I didn't consider that when i read your blog. I'm so sorry for the upheaval in all of your lives! But, she is where she needs to be. I was sleeping like you this morning too! I had the same experience with the phone ringing too! We are probably just worn out from the stress in our lives!

I finally made some head way on work. I got all 3 syllabi ready for my classes. I got the online class set up online. I'm working on the rest tomorrow!

I hope to make it to the Y and do some water aerobics tomorrow too! Whew! Rest well!

Resolve to edge in a little reading every day, if it is but a single sentence. If you gain fifteen minutes a day, it will make itself felt at the end of the year.

Good morning, I think. This morning I slept in. I was so sound asleep that when DD called about an hour after I normally get up. I thought thats an interesting sound I wonder what it is and where it is coming from.

I didn't get any intentional exercise yesterday. If you read my blog you know my life got turned upside down. It wasn't totally unexpected, but alot to get done to get beka moved in and enrolled in school.

Morning Group -- Thanks, Melissa for setting up the "cafe" to do our chatting. I've been limping around the last few days due to my sciatica problem. I do okay for awhile and then the nerve gets irritated again and the pain sets in even worse. Did make it through my day at the clinic -- I hadn't been there since before Christmas. We saw some cases of influenza -- you don't want to catch it. Very bad virus with respiratory involvement, aching, fever, loss of appetite, and extreme fatigue. Not much to do if you catch it except rest, drink liquids, go to the doctor if you have breathing problems. Melissa -- the grieving process is a long road. My mother has been gone for 28 years -- my mind goes back to the holidays and our time together and the sadness sets in even though that much time has passed. My mother had lots of "unfinished" business when she died -- she "came to us" (my siblings and I) many times for over a year. There were so many things she wanted to do and see -- she left several grandchildren that she wanted to be with longer. Her spouse married a friend and co-worker less than 9 months after she died. That lady is still in the family -- she was much younger and had her own children. My step-father died of cancer, also. It is a very personal journey and no one can tell you how to be at peace with someone's death. Trying to find ways to honor them or cherish memories seems to help a bit. My mother and I wrote letters to each other from the time I left home -- I kept most of them and re-read them sometimes. We shared a love of books and learning and thoughts about religion/faith. Her last few months were really awful -- I did get to see her just before she died and spent time with her. She died at home with hospice care. I spent several years as a hospice nurse to try to help others get through those end-times. It is very difficult to just put your grief "on a shelf" and get back to business as usual -- it has to happen, though. Wishing you all a hopeful new year and days of good times. Right now there are two people in our lives who are doing poorly and under hospital care. Two other people are fighting with one another and trying to hurt each other deeply. Can't do much with either situation except show concern and not dwell on the possible consequences. Life is too short to spend precious time being mean.

Melissa, When I lost my dad almost a year ago to Dr told me to put everything else on the back burner for a year and grieve him. Then pick myself up and move on. I know easier said then done, but do remember that you need to grieve, give yourself permission and time.

Hello all! Welcome to January and a brand new year! What are you & your mutts up to these days?

Jack is as spoiled as ever. I'm still struggling with the grief of losing my mom. I'm trying, but I need time. I do have to put my rear in gear and get back to work, but it is so hard. Classes start back on Monday and I am no where near ready! Augh!

Thank God for Jack and my husband. Well, happy new year to all! Can't wait to read what everyone is up to in the new year!
