I printed out the HCJ and keep it in a binder on my desk. The Christmas card list is right behind the HCJ in the journal and I've added "write three Christmas cards" to my evening routine.

So far so good.

CLCOOL..Now I understand. l love to spend time decorating too. I no longer works so I have time as well. Christmas is my favorite time of year. So much so that we were married Christmas Eve.

Thanks for the info!
Last year was wonderful, not because of anything I really did, exept for the fact that it was the 1st Christmas in 16 years that I wasn't working, so I could actually spend time decorating & doing things. Plus, extra time with my sons!
I did learn that it's all about family & not $

Here is a free, downloadable, 2 week planner that begins Nov 15; some not using any other calendar or planner system might want to print this and schedule Thanksgiving grocery buying, and timeline activities like FlyLady says to cook the 2-3 days before Thanksgiving, 3 things per day, you can jot down what you're going to cook on which days etc.

I always buy a very big turkey that takes up to 4 days to thaw in bottom of fridge; so I'm buying my turkey on Thursday Nov 18th, for example, and making that note on the 18th.

Be sure to put a big X over the entire block of the 26th, LOL; the 25th is Thanksgiving not the 26th.

I keep the same contents in my Franklin Covey Planner, and in a weekly menu planning binder that has 52 sheet protectors in it.

I don't know why some links in SP threads jump to the next link & the red font runs together. I edited to put a black line between links, if that doesn't help then I don't know what will.

No, the black line didn't help, so I'll add emoticons between, and see if that helps.

Okay, the emoticons didn't help, NOTHING HELPS, so I'll split up these links into individual postings on this thread.

CLCOOL, what did you do that made your holiday so wonderful that you're trying to even out do it this year? Must have been really special.

My regular control journal is in a binder so I just added the holiday stuff to one section of it.
Last year was easier because we did not have to travel, but this year we're traveling for both holidays. I'm also keeping gifts simple and in budget...several homemade.
My biggest challenge is always cards, but I'm starting earlier this year so hopefully they'll all get out before Christmas!

I downloaded Flylady's Holiday Control Journal several years ago, and my holiday life has been so much easier! I like the way it has a section for asking the family what they like and what they don't like. I have used that a few times, updating every now and then. I need to update as half the children left this year.
What I did was to print it out and put it into page protectors. I wrote down certain things, things which repeat. I use an erase marker on the pages which change, like presents. It is really nice to have. Oh! I combined all the pages into a binder, and the family knows it's imporatant and to not look into it. I have recipes and more in it.

FEARLESSLIFE, I could have written what you did. Last year I started decorating for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. This year Thanksgiving is Nov. 25. I may wait until Nov. 28, which is the beginning of Advent this year. We decorate our church on the 27.

We don't buy a lot of gifts any more. We bake Welsh cookies and give them as gifts and I send my 3 nephews a check.

I simplify everything, by using regular weekly planning during the holidays. Not a HCJ. There are some "extra" activities, sure; like cards, tree, etc.; but I and my friends don't give gifts except homemade, which we make all year & bake during the holidays, to reduce commercialism and to make the gifts more meaningful.

I schedule composing Christmas card letter on October 25th; I write and address Christmas cards on Thanksgiving night.

There are "extra" activities the rest of the year too, so, I just switch those out for holiday ones, during the holiday season. I decorate 4X a year for example, including once in fall and once for Christmas; so taking down the previous season and putting up new is built-in to my schedule.

I keep a weekly menu planning sheet with printed recipes behind it year around for example (just started that).

By simplifying and going non-commercial, I need to keep the regular decluttering and regular weekly plan but I do not need cruising through the holidays, HCJ, etc.

That said, I love FlyLady, and anything that works for you is terrific and I highly support it.

I printed out the Flylady HCJ. But this year I took it a step further and put everything into my iTouch. I always have my iTouch with me, but I also like to sit down and physically leaf through my binder. The most important thing to me is thinking this far ahead about the little things! Christmas is so much less stressful since I started using a HCJ.

I do a binder and carry it with me throughout the holiday prep season. Yesterday I downloaded one for this year and saved it on a thumb drive. I'll only print the pages I need. I move my card list forward each year from the prior season's binder. I do the same with favorite recipes, etc.

I wish I had an iPhone. I like that idea of keeping the gift list handy without having to drag my binder around everyplace.

Write on!

Won't I look good in my publicity photos when I am the leanest, meanest, most agile writing machine I can possibly be?

What's your holiday control journal like? I've got a binder for my recipes and schedule and I've put my gift list on my iPhone so I always have it when I'm out shopping.
