Thanks, ARIA. I'm going to try that. I'll try to make some time over the weekend to get both CJ's and my daybook out and tidy up the whole process.

you know... now that I think about it, and since someone else said something about their control journal being on their smart phone... mine basically is too. I have all of my contact lists and doctors info and family contact information on my Google contact list, which syncs directly to my phone... then I have all of the family birthdays & anniversaries and any other events on my Google calender, which syncs directly to my phone. I can view my husband's calender on my phone because he has a Google calender and gave me rights to see it on my Google calender... LOL I love Google! I also have it set up to where my calender can send me reminders on my phone... so I can make it send me reminders for the FlyLady stuff. I just wish I could get my Yahoo calender to be synced with my Google calender so that I could get FlyLady's reminders from there!!

lol I have a SCL... Smart Control Journal!

Thank you Down2!

I see that there are possibilities for what I was trying to do!

So many people have been very kind to help with CJ ideas!

To get started, I'm going to put routines on index cards that I already have. I started a calendar on the wall for appointments. I also have a day planner provided through work.

Down2Sexy:

I have my home CJ and my work CJ. Those are for routines.

I also have my daybook, which links the 2.

In my daybook, I have two pages facing me for each day. The left side is 'work to-dos'. The right side (the comments page), I use for my home to-dos. I carry it between work/home.

If I need to schedule an appointment while at work (e.g., medical dental), I make a note on the work side of my daybook.

If I need to remember to bring something in for work, I make a note on my home side of my daybook.

This helps me link the home/work processes.

Hope this helps.

I now keep my cj on my smartphone, but for years I used index cards. I love index cards!

I'll have to check out the stickies on Windows 7. I can see where they'd be real handy for one-time reminders.

I have benefitted from the wealth of information everyone has shared.

To get started I'm writing on index cards so I can arrange and rearrange them easily. I'm also using the sticky notes from windows7. It is fun to delete a note that has a mission on it as I complete it!

BTW I was at Target today. They had an "Office in a Box" for $1.00 up front in the bargain area. It has a stapler, paper clips, etc. in it. I got one for myself to begin my office in a bag and several for Easter gifts!

Thanks to all of you for sharing your insight. Together we can ALL succeed!

Well, when I am using mine I have a binder. My problem is that when I was in school it was just too difficult to keep up with. Also, we (DH and I) have lived with another couple (actually, 2 different couples) for the past nearly 4 years of our marriage. When living with another couple it is difficult to have your own routine because things run together so often. I don't feel comfortable bringing them in to the routine for FlyLady because the other girls ...well they are/were not very accepting of things like that or Spark. It has just never worked out.

Anywho, when DH and I move out (HOPEFULLY soon... he has to get a job first), I will be starting our routine again. Until then I am fluttering.

When I have more time, I'm going to come back and really study this thread. I've been floundering around with my CJs (I made one for home and one for work) but I haven't really settled on something that really, really works for me. I tried having only 1 CJ and putting home and work in it, but I found that a little cumbersome. Maybe I need to revisit that idea and try to streamline it, because with 2 separate journals, my work hand doesn't know what my home hand is doing (and vice versa).

Suggestions? Anybody?

I started with the index cards and recently have tried the Control Journal. I like the index cards for my routine and the journal for the important dates (birthdays), calendar, phone numbers, etc. I like the cards because i can just rotate when I am done and start there if I don't finish everything on the list for that day/month/season, etc. You will figure out what is best for you. It is great to be able to know who has a birthday/anniversary for the month and plan ahead. So many relatives are blessed to get a card in the mail. It is the little acts of kndness they remember. Enjoy what ever you do. No worries and no stress. emoticon It is all under Control.

I too use a notebook with tabs and printouts in sheet protectors. I love how we support each other!

I like the email she sends out that starts, "What are you WAITING FOR?!!! For the clutter to pick itself up??? For a truck to back up to your house's door???"

I'm like, yeah; sigh. The reality is, neither Ed McMann nor 1-800-Junk is going to be visiting my door, LOL. If it's to be it's up to me. And the timer. And 15 minutes.

Thank you all so much for so many helpful ideas. And what do you think I meant by the remark about acquiring and cluttering. I am just shy of needing an intervention! lol!

I am just so grateful to have clean shiny sinks, a clean bathroom and clean car. The rest will get there by the time we cycle through the zones a couple more times.

I got a three ring binder and plastic protector sheets and tab dividers. I have it divided into To Do, Menus, Important Data (phone numbers, birthdays, health care numbers etc) and School and Activities.

The plastic sheets allow me to print pages off the FlyLady site and put them in there plus to store newletters, soccer team phone lists etc.

There is another really excellent thread on this I'm going to try to find and link to for you. This other thread really helped me, I've always had a problem with CJ.

FlyLady started with a notecard system similar to what you described! She eventually moved to the binder, because that worked better for her. If the notecards work better for you, that's what you need to use (adapt the system to meet your needs!)

The key thing for the CJ, is to keep it a 'living' document, until you get a good, comfortable routine down: e.g., use pencil, and do it in such a way that it is easy for you to move tasks around in the routines (this is probably very easy with index cards!)

As an example, my task of feeding the cats started as a morning routine, moved to a 'before bed' routine, and finally settled on 'after work' routine. I had to experiment until I found the best spot for that task.

For the CJ itself, I use FlyLady's system of a 3-ring binder, notepaper, and things written in PENCIL.

I have many cross-outs, re-writes, etc. If a page gets too unreadable, I copy it to a blank sheet, and remove and toss the old one.

I use little notebooks I get at the dollar store to do my control journal but I think I like the idea of index cards even better! I started with Flyladys list and then added & changed things to suit my own routines & needs. I don't know how I ever managed before the Control journal! I think getting away from my To-Do lists & now my control journal was how I ended up in CHAOS! Then as I finish each page (it takes 2 days to go through a page --I use front & back. Then I tear out the sheet & dispose of it since I am finished with it, then the clutter of the control journal goes away too and I can look forward to getting a new one.

Hi Everyone!

I've been "flying" for the past couple weeks. I started my calendar. Now I'd like to work on a control journal.

I have a tendency to chronically acquire things and create clutter so do not want to purchase anything until I really KNOW it is what I want. My plan is to write things to be done on index cards which I already have and to file them behind tabs by days of the week, etc. until I like what I'm doing.

Would anyone share what they have done with their control journals? I "think" I have an idea what to do. It still seems like feedback from more experienced flyers would be helpful!

Love this team!

Hugs,

Lquest
