My first weigh in this year (1/7) was 187.2

last week (1/14) was 186.8 (down .4)

This week (1/21) was 186.2 (down .6)

It's moving slowly... but in the right direction!

(I weigh Mondays - so you'll usually see me post my new weigh in on Tuesday - not Friday)

Monday weigh-in are a great tool to help me keep my discipline over the weekend. (Although I will confess to jumping on the scale some Fridays before I go out for our usual restaurant meal).

And since its the beginning of a new week, its a bit easier for me to look at the scale number as a data point for my weekly plan going forward: meals on plan, enough activity scheduled. Its to plan the new week, and I try not to think of it as a judgement on the past week.

It's up to you what you want to use for a starting weight - what ever works for you.

I've kept mine at my starting weight from back in March when I joined SparkPeople.

You could choose to start a fresh year with your Jan 1 weight.

For goal - I have my ultimate goal weight. Other folks prefer to break it down to their 10% goals. So they have their starting weight and their goal is 10% less than that. When they reach that milestone, they reset the starting weight, and take 10% of that for their next goal.

Main thing is that the tracking helps alot of us be accountable. You can even post your weekly weigh-ins here - brag about those pounds lost, those weeks you maintain instead of gain, and get some support (or a kick in the pants if you ask for one) if the scale goes up. Other folks don't post their weekly weigh-ins - but they also focus on whether they've kept to their food and fitness plan, or if they've lost inches toning up.

I am a newbie,Just got invited & I weigh 176 lb.

What do u all put a start weight jan 1st or my weight from Oct 07 when I starting watching my weight???

I haven't checked out the site yet,I am busy for a few hours in the am & Sat & Sunday is hard for me 2 be on the computer..I will visit later.Bye emoticon

1)~ head to the Ymca at my 6 days a week to do my cardio & classes like(aerobics)OR DO~
1-1.5 hours with dvd's,walking ,or elliptical machine
2)~Burn at least 617 calories per day~at my 6 days a week.....Need to drop 55 lbs by next year by the Sept 25th 2009, date that I will be 1 year commited at the 6 days a week doing hard core exercising faithfully~~~~~ I AM SICK OF MYSELF BEING chunky~~~:-)
3)~Journal all food~here at Sparks....

Only a pound

Hello, do you know me? If you don't you should. I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet. Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm Only One Pound, just a pound. Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen pounds, but never only one, so I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself ever so slyly so that you never seem to notice it, that is until I've grown to ten, twenty or even more pounds in weight. Yes, it's fun being Only One Pound of fat, left to do as I please. So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying "Oh, I only lost one pound." ( as if that were such a terrible thing!) For you see, if you do this you'll encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm not worth losing. And I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you. Happy Days!! After all, I'm Only One Pound of fat!!!
