My 12 year daughter's physician told me that all electronics-computers, Ipods, Ipads, TV, etc. need to given to the parents at LEAST TWO HOURS BEFORE BEDTIME. And that one hour on a school day should be the limit of their time (If NOT used for school work) and two hours on weekends. Electronics are very addictive to children and they affect their learning in a negative way.

my son has ADHD and takes medication for it. He has been using Melatonin to help him sleep. It has been working, but some nights he is just not tired. His Doctor said that it could be because of the laptop use.

thanks for the help. my son is 12, but he is very smart. I explained to him what the doctor had said to me. I think he understands. We will see tonight when I tell him to turn it off.

Yeah, I've read about that too - our bodies translate the light from the screen to be similar/the same as the light from the sun, and it resets our circadian cycles.

How old is your son? He may be old enough to get the science behind it. You might also just make a family ritual to read together for an hour before bed, or something along those lines. (We explained this to my 16 y/o son, he just takes a bath most nights before bed. That kinda forces the bedtime ritual to almost an hour right there.)

Hello, I just talked to my son's psychiatrist She said that the use of the lap top late at night is the reason for Anthony's insomnia. she said that the light from the device is keeping him up. It has been proven in resent studies that devices such as Kindle, laptop, smart phones are what is causing this..
She said that the device needs to be turned off an hour before bed time.talk to you later. Now I have to get him to co-operate and turn off the laptop an hour before bed time.
Do you have any suggestions?
