Great news that he made the team! He'll have a blast.
As you have to get up and out the door on your own (without company in the morning), you can remind yourself that you're a great role model for him and you help inspired him to be active and healthy... Then you can drag yourself to the gym LOL.

Thanks! He's so excited! But now he doesn't want to get up with me in the mornings to work out! Lol

He made the team! He didn't want to get up with me this morning to go to the fitness center, but he has basketball practice tonight. The last couple of days he's started to really get tall and slimming down!

My son and I play soccer in the front yard, play tag, ride bikes, have races, dance to videos. My son is also muscular for his age and solid and just turned 11 yrs old. I keep telling him that he isn't fat but healthy too.

I hate when kids worry about their weight, especially in your son's case. That is great he is on the wrestling team and is trying out for the basketball team. Just keep reenforcing that he is healthy and keep him busy. You sound like you are doing a wonderful job!

He's been on a wrestling team for the last 3 yrs. I'm trying to talk him into continuing this year bc he's REALLY GOOD! He's trying out for the school basketball team tonight. That wouldn't interfere with wrestling though bc they are done by 4:30. He's always loved sports, it's just he isn't losing his baby fat as fast as other kids. But the doctor is by no means worried about his weight and I've told him he's not "fat" by any definition of the word! He's just solid. He'll be muscular like his biological father.

I let my boys (ages 6, 8, and 16) run with me when I go. Sometimes I walk/run and they ride their bikes. I also do some kickboxing (at home) with the boys. You don't necessarily have to be in the gym to exercise. My kids and I also play basketball, soccer, and football for fun. I think that any form of exercise/play at your son's age is good. Also, is there a sport that he enjoys that he can join a team and play with kids his own age?

My son is really concerned about his weight. He's 10 almost 11 and people have been telling him he's fat. He hasn't lost all of his baby fat and there's absolutely no problems with his weight! But he wants to "work out." He has been waking me up for my routine lately, wanting to go with me. So Friday and today I let him come to the fitness center with me. Now I WILL NOT let him use any of the weights or weight machines! But we took turns on the treadmill and the stationary bike. I've mentioned wanting to build up to jogging outside and he asked me about that this morning.

I want to make sure my kids are physically active and they learn the importance of exercise. Has anyone else done this? Any suggestions to make it work? I love having him with me but I feel like it's too restricting for him since I won't let him use the weights.
