I am a nurse and also have the same problems. I try things until my feet go numb then I stop. Recumbant exercise bikes seem like a safe bet most of the time and what my PT had suggested. You're stitting so back is stabelilzed and I wont fall when my feet go numb. Good luck!
I too have a bad back,had two back surgeries and i too am worried i will hurt myself,I know swimming an walking are good,but i don't have anywhere to go swim each day and walking just doesn't seem to be enough. So if you find any other great exercises people like us can do please let me know as well. Good luck on your weight lose journey.

I have a bad back. Working as a nurse has required many years of heavy lifting and use of improper body mechanics while doing it! I'm 33 years old, but I feel like I have a 70 year old back. I have a herniated disk that I have been able to stabilize using physical therapy and chiropractic adjustments. I also have alot of muscle stiffness and arthritis in my lower back from the repetative injuries to the same area. I want to exercise, but I am so afraid that my back will go out and I won't be able to move again. Other than walking or swimming are there any other low impact exercises I can do?
