I'm sure you know what motivates your girls best but maybe there are other alternatives. Ultimately, spending time together and being active is its own reward and it could be an expensive precident to set that they get money. Think about what motivates you and why you want them to run with you. If you want to spend time together, try fun runs that are family friendly and have regular fun training runs leading up to the race. My family used to run/walk to get ice cream when I was young and I remember that being a fun time together. I've done a 5k at the zoo before that was really cool and there were a lot of kids there that seemed to enjoy it. That's probably a much better time than a regular road race. Make sure to celebrate the day and take pictures together and then you can frame one and put it up in the house. I think that would be even better than $37. You could also let the girls pick out new running shoes or something cute to workout in. I guess it depends on the girls though and what motivates them.

I am going to enter my first race this summer and am thinking about entering a 6k. I've started going out a couple of times a week. I'm trying to get my older two girls (ages 6 & 8) to run with me but haven't had much luck. Does anyone think it's wrong to offer them money as an incentive? I was thinking $10/mile for a race. For the 6k they would each earn $37.
