My Uncle used to get a swollen tongue and I think it was from wheat and wheat products but eventually, that problem went away. I don't know all the details but for a while, he couldn't eat much of anything.

Swollen tongue could also be a reaction to the meds if you're on the synthetics. I'd be asking about that - allergic reactions. Lots of people can't take the synthetics because of this.

Let me just say, there is a Celiac and gluten free team here on SP. Check it out. We are petitioning for a gluten-free menu plan!

I find I eat quite LARGE portions when eating vegan! And I feel SO MUCH better. When you eat mostly fruits and veggies your body gets all the carbs it needs, but they are raw/whole so the body has to do the processing--as apposed to the refined bread, sugar diet out there we are so used to grabbing on the run. I do my cooking in large batches and portion them off into my lunches in those nifty containers and refrigerate-voala! Done for the week!
The rest I freeze for next month! You don't really want to get bored with the foods! There are lots of gluten free resources out there, do a search on SP!
Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

Can you tell me more about Gluten and inflammation? I keep hearing this but I can't see how to possibly develop a gluten-free diet? When I try, I can't seem to get enough calories in a day because veggies and fruits don't really add up.

Yes! I never had really associated it before. I also get sores in my mouth-but think this is associated to the intolerance of wheat, corn, milk, oats, etc. Went to a gluten free talk last weekend at Natural Foods (used to be Vitamin Cottage) and learned a LOT. I am more convinced all this goes together in one word INFLAMATION!

It hurts when you bite your tongue! When it's swollen I also talk really slow so my words don't slur.

Okay. Now I have to ask - does anyone ever get a swollen tongue from their Hashi's? Everytime I get a weird symptom (like low blood pressure or dry eyes) and start to think I'm coming down with something new - I stop to ask if it could be from the Hashi's and Hypothyroidism. I'm very careful about what I eat and avoid all those "inflammatory" foods, including wheat and nuts; I don't think it's allergies. Is this a symptom anyone else has ever had? And please share any remedies...
