I have learned to dress in layers, and as old fashioned as it may seem I try to remember to carry a handkerchief or bandanna to wipe the sweat away. A bandanna is good for work, If I'm dressed nicely a pretty handkerchief looks better.

The temps here have been in the 90s F for weeks. I have been dealing with the hot flashes for years and have learned to just accept the fact that they are going to come and deal with it. But this summer I have been miserable. I feel like my garden looks, dry, withered and barren. I haven't even been sitting on the porch this week. I stay inside under the air conditioning. I spend my day dressing and undressing. Papa enjoys seeing me run around the house naked but I'm in no mood for friskiness.

I have the same amount of flashes no matter what the weather. They are harder to recover from when the weather is hot. When the weather is cool I can step outside in the cool air. When the weather is hot I can't find a cool spot. This Summer the weather and the flashes are really taking a toll on me. I cannot enjoy my gardening like I usually do. I can't recover from the heat. Even in air conditioning the flashes leave me drained of all my energy.

I talked to a women in her early 70s the other day and she said that she still has them and that her mother had them until she passed away in her late 80s.

Good evening, or should I say morning. It's going to be a long day at work.... I just thought I'd share with you the fact that I find in the really warm temperatures I don't seem to take as many hot flashes. The minute I go into air conditioning they start up? Maybe in the hot temperatures my body is so hot I just don't notice them.
I don't take anything, just plodding along and trusting I can cope with what comes my way.

I am taking all and tried all at once - I could not take it any more!
Yes, I still run the fan at night, but I have not had one episode of night sweats
since starting the black cohosh (and everything else). I did not take the time to
experiment - I felt I could not afford any more deadbeat days!

Did the Black Cohosh help a little or a lot? Are you doing all the different things at once or did you try them one at a time?

LOL.... poor you. We had our President of the Company up here this week from NC. We also had one of our representatives from Nova Scotia, Canada here too. It was priceless, our Canadian boy stepped off the plane into 95 degrees and just about keeled over (they don't get temperatures like that on the East Coast of Canada never mind the humidity) I thought he was going to die..... our "President" stepped of his plane and said "oh my, this is just wonderful, it's so cool". I thought of you instantly.
The hot flashes are a nightmare, especially in the heat. I still get a lot of the night sweats and wake up every 1.5 to 2 hrs through the night. I find the emotions not too bad, I feel them now and then but being raised in the "old" country we are taught not to show them anyway so I am handling that ok - except if it's a family member that upsets me then I find it hard to hold in (what an idiot). As for memory loss, I do find myself a wee bitty distracted now and then and a bit forgetful but I keep it to myself at work, and it comes back in a minute or two. Sometimes I get caught when I'm doing something and the boss asks me a question about something completely different than I'm working on, I do get the "blank" look on my face but in about 30 seconds the light comes on so hang on in there and don't panic it's the worst thing you can do it just makes it worse.

I had a horrible hot flash today. The heat index today was 105 so I waited as late as I could to go to the garden and gather my veggies. I didn't feel it coming as I usually do. I wasn't sure I was going to make it back inside. It scared me a bit. The sweat was pouring and it took a long time to pass. I was left very weak. Even now several hours later I can still fell the after effects. I was glowin all the way down to the crack of my a-- girls. Lol !

Oh yea the night sweats can take their toll. A lack of a good nights sleep can cause problems of it's on. Everyone is different, but I doubt that the memory loss and lack of concentration will cause you to be unemployed. Use it to your advantage. Oh my did I forget to do the dishes? Silly me. Lol. I forgot that I was suppose to do that. My goodness ! Lol. I still have a big problem with the hot flashes and night sweats. I go through spells with the lack of concentration. It does seem to get better with time. Hormone replacement does help a lot of women. Hang in there.

I am new to this journey...I've been having night sweats for about a month but did not admit that's what they were until my first flash on July 4. Fortunately, the flash is very short and, so far, not very intense, but the night sweats do me in. Off goes the blanket, on goes the blanket (fan running all the while).

I also seem to have forgotten how to think and to remember. I know I am even more "snarky" than usual, so I am trying to keep a low profile and not interact much with others out of fear of losing it!

Everything makes me want to cry and I cannot concentrate for very long at all.

Because I am terrified that the reduced brain power could render me unemployed, I bought some supplements yesterday and today was noticably an easier day...

Thanks. I had a nice weekend so it certainly helps with the mood I was in. Better today and I took your advice, nice cool showers and a glass or two of wine. I really have to kick myself in the butt and get back into gear, it's just so hard sometimes I wonder what it's all about.
Thanks again.

Hang in there and don't give up. You are not fat, you are voluptuous. It is true that the hot flashes can zap your strength. Sometimes I think that it would be easier to be hot and stay hot than to go up and down. Sometimes when I get out of sorts I find that a luke warm or slightly cool shower or bath helps me to feel a bit better. Maybe a drop or two of lavender oil in the water and a glass of wine to sip while you soak. Pamper yourself a bit. You deserve it, for all you do at work and home. Sometimes when others forget how hard we work and how much we do we have to reward ourselves.

Sounds like fun. I haven't been to a concert in years. I'm having crappy days just now. Sitting here at my desk, with the wee fan going, a ton of work in front of me, month end.... blah blah blah and can't be bothered my backside with anything. I'm tired, hot and fat! I have lost all ambition, it's still in my brain but my body is just exhausted.

some GF and I went to a Def Leppard and Heart concert in Charlotte, Wed night. it was at an Amp Theater and the weather was perfect. It was cloudy so the sun wasn't beating down on us and a cool breeze was blowing. There was a threat of a storm but it didn't happen. Around here when the weather is so hot there is always a threat of a storm popping up. We had so much fun. It was fun to get out with the girls. We are thinking of going to see ZZ Top next month.

I love a porch swing. They bring back so many memories of my youth. When it's hot you can always create a bit of a breeze in a swing. I know it's Monday and you have to get back to work, but next time you get a chance to set on your new swing and have a drink, tip one up for me. Lol !

LOL you are way to cute! I don't wear make up so there's no problem there, just a touch of lipstick (if I remember) and I wear my hair real short. When I got to work I always have on a sleeveless top under my shirt/jacket so I can strip down (which I always end up doing). Outside if people can see me I am pretty descent, out back I figure they shouldn't be looking so I wear my shorts and a wee top with my hat, glasses and lots of sunscreen and yes, I always have water on hand. We don't get it nearly as hot as you do though. DH just bought me a new swing for the yard and I'm so happy. The old one died about 2 years ago and boy did I miss it.
Well got to go and finish the laundry and then start the week all over again. Can you believe we are almost in July? Where does the time go?

Our weather has been a bit strange this year ,too. Here this time of year it is always unpredictable, but this year it is a lot more severe. No where near as bad as weather in other areas, so I'm not complaining. No the heart does not help with the hot flashes. Around here no one notices that your sweating like the devils wife, or that you keep taking more and more clothes off, 'cause everybody is hot and sweating, and taking off their clothes. Lol. That is why the south is laid back and slow paced. Most of the time it's to damn hot to be getting wound up and rush around. Lol.
I can tell you how I deal with mine in hot weather. First you gotta accept the fact that it is gonna happen and roll with it. Lol! I wear very little makeup, ( will sweat it off ) and don't fuss with my hair very much ( won't last ether )Thank goodness for hats and sun glasses. Lol ! I plan all outside activities for the morning ( before 12:00 ) or in the evening ( after 4:00 ) I do inside stuff between 12 and 4. My front porch is screened in with a ceiling fan,so it is shady and the air is always moving and no bugs, it is always a bit cooler. I sit one of those vertical osculating fans in front of my chair, I carry out a big glass of ice cold water and a couple bottles of frozen water. I can drink it , use it as a cold compress, or wet a bandanna with it. I take out a hand towel or bandanna or two. Before I go to the garden, if I have makeup on I wash it off, it will burn my eyes when I start sweating. Put my hair up off my neck and away from my face. Bandanna around my head to keep the sweat out of my eyes, hat to keep the sun off my face, and a bandanna in my pocket for wiping the sweat away. I work in a easy pace. As soon as I feel a hot flash coming, I head for the porch. Lol!

Have a great week my glowin buddies. Lol ! emoticon

We are having the weirdest weather. In the morning it's around 54 degrees, by lunch you are around 90 degrees and then at night it drops to 40 - how can it do that in one day? During that time we get downpours of rain and then the humidity is horrendous and guess what..... as you probably already know but being my first year.... is does not help those stupid hot flashes!!!

Morning ladies, it's the weekend again. These weeks go by so fast it's not even funny and then Friday night comes then somehow it's Monday again. I am getting more and more hot flashes now and I am wondering if it's because the humidity is starting to set in. My wee fan on my desk is just working up a storm.

It's been raining a lot here, not as much as in the States though? As I've said before our head office is in NC along with offices in MO. I know some people who live in Joplin and were hit by that awful tornado.... just devastating. So I'm not going to complain about rain.

I'm going to go and actually get ready now, don't know what for - maybe I'll decide that once I'm showered and dressed. Catch you all later.

Haven't worked out for a while now, I know bad. But due to some health issues not only do I look like an idiot at the gym but it doesn't feel good. I'm still having the hot flashes but discovered that a water bed is the trick. I know sound stupid but the water seems to dissipate the heat. I still get them but they don't kill me any more.

Well I put together my wee desk fan and clipped it onto my desk today. All I have to say is AWESOME!!!! emoticon I love it. I didn't have to run outside to cool down.

I am sitting here dying with the heat at the moment but at least it is nice enough I can open the window, the ceiling fan is going too. My dog loves it as she hates to be hot, not too sure about hubby though LOL....

It was about 14 degrees today, just beautiful. I think the snow is actually all gone for now.

Warm weather sounds so good. We're still pretty cool, about 6 degrees today but it's above zero and that's what counts.

I haven't booked any vacation off yet as I'm not going anywhere so I thought I'd wait and see what the weather does first.

I did buy that wee fan for my desk and ahhhhhh.....

I have been on vacation this passed week and spent a lot of time working in my garden and flowers soaking up the sun. Occasionally a hot flash would send me running for the shade. mostly it felt good. Helped to lift my Winter depression and achy joints. I am feeling much better.

It is hot here. I still sleep with my ice bottle at night. I keep my fan on at home and work.

I saw one of those neck things last Saturday when we went to SeaWorld in San Antonio. I thought I would get one later, but we didn't get back to that spot. I spent 4 days in 90 degree heat though and came through just fine. Now, there was a good breeze each day, so I am sure that helped. Hopefully, that was a good trial run and everything thing will be fine if and when it ever warms up back home.

Great idea! You can buy those things you put around your neck too, you know the ones you put in the freezer.
Boy it was a crazy day today with the hot flashes. I don't know, I think the warmer the temperature gets the hotter I'm getting. I've a funny feeling I'm not going to be liking the summer as much as I used to.

Hmmmm I think I'll sit with the garden hose next to me on misty and just spray myself with that. Mind you the dog will probably be fighting me for it lol...

When I get too hot in the summer, I get in the shower and scrub it and rinse it off with cool water! LOL emoticon

Hi there, well it's April 7th and was only -2 this morning, most of the snow is gone and it's supposed to go to double digits on the plus side this weekend...woo hoo.... maybe the swampy back yard I have will dry out a bit.... emoticon

I haven't gone through a summer yet with hot flashes and not too sure if I am looking forward to that or not???? It's bad enough when it's freezing - I think I might just drop on the spot in summer, lol... now, wouldn't that be a sight to see.

Have a great day everyone!
