Beckafano, I just now saw your post. I hope you are feeling better about things - I think 13 pounds is fantastic, it's more than I've lost. I always hear that we should visualize how we want to look and feel, instead of beating ourselves down for where we are now. And you have already made progress, so definitely you deserve credit for that, rather than self-criticism. Think about how you would talk to a friend who was feeling discouraged, and talk to yourself that way. If it feels awkward talking to yourself, try writing it out in a journal or even in the "letter to a friend" format. Hang in there!

I saw a picture of myself that my husband had taken and I've been struggling with it ever since. I thought I was doing good, because i had lost 13lb, but after seeing that, it's hard to have hope.

Struggling with follow-through today. I'm good at starting, not so good at keeping up with my plans. I'm sitting here trying to think of a reward to give myself for getting up and taking action, but everything I'm thinking of costs money. I've got a Sunday afternoon at home alone, a great time to tackle a project. Must just get up and set the timer and go.

Hope today is looking better, I can relate to your situation.
Everyday I struggle with the chaos around me. I'm not quite a hoarder but I do have piles of stuff and can't keep up with the decluttering that I know has to happen. Today, I am going to work in the kitchen--this is my commitment for the day. I intend to check back in tomorrow and report that I achieved significant progress!

First counseling apt went well. We've decided to work on relationship skills, anger and anxiety management and self esteem issues. I'm a bit nervous about it.

I'm also thankful I'm not as crazy and I thought I was. But I still don't know what to do. I found out that no one in the entire company likes my new boss. I thought I was the only one having trouble with her, but now I'm not sure what to do about it.

Becky, those are great suggestions. They fit with the turtle theory of weightloss that Spark encourages, SLOW and STEADY gets you where you want. Keep going, bit by bit and eventually major progress will be achieved!

I know I've said it before, but I often take one of a few approaches. #1 make a detailed list, the tasks seem smaller and less overwhelming and mark each one off as you do it, before you know it, there is a giant list of things you've done and you're motivated to do more. #2 only focus on one area of the house at a time, for example one room or one item and pretend, while your working on that one item, that nothing else exists, once your done and ready to move on to the next one, you'll get to look at one accomplishment while working on the next, it's great motivation to 'see' what you've accomplished. #3 Schedule it, don't wait till you have some free time, like exercise or taking care of yourself, it needs to be scheduled and you need to make an effort to fit it in, I often think of my home as part of my health, a healthy environment promotes a healthy life. Hope one of these helps someone.

Jackie, give yourself a break. You deserve a day or two or three off once in a while. Only worry if it lasts longer that a week or two.

So far doing good with the changes. I had a couple bad weeks recently, but I learned a couple things and then just tried to ride out the storm. This week was much better and I think I'm gonna wait a little while for the next change to give my body a little time to catch up.

I've also been noticing a change in the way my clothes fit and how my body feels in general, but I told myself not to get my hopes up or to get upset if I didn't actually loose weight. I got on the scale and lost 5lb. I'm so excited. That's the most I've lost at one time since I've been on Spark.

I am struggling to get things done, everything is taking so long and I keep getting lost in my new city. Now normal life is demanding my time away from moving in: laundry, shopping, cleaning etc.

Changes are going well for the most part, thank you for asking. I'm trying to be patient with myself, but it sure is hard. I started with changing some of my medication and weening off of some of it and adding some vitamines as a replacement. I'm seeing good results already but also some 'side effects.' I expected them, but that doesn't make them easy and sometimes its hard to be patient with the process, but I'm trying to keep my focus on the overall goal and the final outcome, not just how I feel today.

Hiya,
Struggling w/ getting back on track after knocked for indirect flu loop.
Was at DD's babysitting sick GS1&2. Got off track so many ways. Now fingers and toes crossed the flu shot has been continual coverage. So happy to be home. I had to cope w/ using DD's mobile to log in yesterday. I know one phone model I'm not going to get if I ever get a smart phone. I missed my 5Ktraining yesterday and today. Going to jump right back in first thing tomorrow morning by going to fitness center. Still haven't done the treadmill there. Would like to try at least. It's always occupied, especially by one guy whose name, according to others w/long habit there, as TreadMillHogGuy, lol.

The food issue was compounded by sick babies, a recent (I'm not very familiar w/him) boyfriend and futon sleep. Let's just say I'm home and can record and measure at least Dinner for today. I'm grateful to see how my life chaos settling down in general is showing me this is, NOW is my time to handle the food, fitness and mess issues.

BECKAFANO: my sympathies on your precious kitty emoticon . We had to put our little girl down 2 years ago after 14 years together. We were all just speaking of her Mon. night. I know you'll still be blessed w/ the memories of your times together.

I'm going to move on to some other tasks on SparkPpl then catch up around the house.

Sorry, I've been MIA again. I'm working on some major changes in my life. I started an exercise program that I love and am keeping up with fairly well as well as a new Goal approach / plan. I'm working on changing / quitting some of my medications - after some research I believe I'm taking so much medication that it's starting to do more harm than good. At the same time I will be slowly adding in soem vitamines. After that is under control I think I will have a clearer head to start on my eating issues. I've also given up some extra activities like the Wednesday Woman's Bible study class, Celebrate Recovery at church and we told my niece she had to leave. It was hard, but I believe it was the right thing to do. I still love my job, but it sure keeps me busy, but that's a good thing. On a sad note, I did have to have my cat put down yesterday. We had her for about 10 years and she was MY baby. I was the only person she liked and I'm gonna miss our nightly petting ritual and our morning petting ritual followed by my sharing my breakfast with her. So I guess I'm on to a new phase of life, or at least I hope so.

Thanks for reminding me of one of my motivational prompts. If we had to move tomorrow, I'm sure I'd leave behind crucial items, irreplaceable family momentos, clothes that do fit because of the mess and clutter. Jackibill, yes I am that contrary. I tried to "fool myself" today; that is I promise myself I only have to do 5 min w/ the hope that momentum kicks in and I do at least 15-20 min. Works frequently, though not today. A little less than 5 min task and I was done. I did do water, I did do moving, I did record my food, I did do one small declutter trash bag and righted the shredder box that tipped over. I'll spare you the list of things I had hoped to tackle. Maybe that's the point. It was an ambitious list and I do want the results. It's just I don't seem to come up with the effort. I could blame the cold or the loneliness of the task but it rings hollow. No solution, just hope I do more tomorrow. emoticon emoticon

bit of a struggle to go back to FROGs after taking needed breaks. I'll have to fool myself into it I guess. I'll give myself a knock off time of 7 pm for the night. Then work my way back:


1) by then I want office supplies rational: need to find list and purge all else then storage in office region.

2) 3 more glasses water

3) 10 min on elliptical

4)sweep floor

hmmm more than hour later moved on but none of list. try again

Half hour later about 1/3 way thru, keep plugging.... emoticon posted Feb 2,2013 5:30pm


I didn't do the elliptical or floor sweep. Think I'll take a picture of dining table to distract from "failure" (above 2) feeling. I think today's FROG will be the elliptical and catbox/floor sweep. It's noon I'll be back to brag in an hour or so emoticon

I sometimes make a small pot of coffee, then tackle some horrible 'frog' project, knowing that hot coffee and my PC will be waiting at the end of it.

Today I have a bad cold and it kept me from keeping various streaks & goals, but I guess it adds humility right ?? Anyway my biggest struggle is consistency and so I'll rest today and restart my streaks & goals Monday. Progress not perfection!

Ok, long post but maybe I'm wrong, it's not consistency but perfectionism that trips me up. I keep running into posts n writings about it. I never thought it was me because I was a slob most my life. Anyone else struggle with perfection making them just freeze/quit?

Karen: I share your struggle. I have a hard time staying away from the pc. I've tried using a timer but I don't even hear it half the time so I'm going to try using pc time as a reward for doing something. Get so much done THEN sit @ the pc for a while. I'm going to try setting an alarm too. One that I'll have to get out of this chair to shut off. Hope

GBSlim, I am also struggling with daily exercise, I joined the 10 minute challenge and I am restarting it over and over until I finish 4 weeks in a row! emoticon

Sandy, I saw a massage therapist once and I too was sore, but felt good after. She told me to drink lots of fluids to finish flushing out the toxins. By the way I love your picture. Bengal tigers are my favorite animal. I think they are sooo gorgeous.

Use it for something positive, like a piggy bank to save up for something on your reward list, fill it with papers with a fun activity on each one and go in and get an idea instead of a cookie when your bored or emotional, or fill it with positive thoughts and quotes to get you motivated when you need it. It will taste better than a cookie in the long run and you won't have any guilty, yucky feelings. In fact I love that idea so much I think I might use something of mine to do the same thing.

Maybe, instead of struggling with guilt you could force your mind to change gears by making a list of accomplishments you've recently made. It doesn't have to be big, but it could be anything, like getting out of bed without hitting the snooze button or playing with kids or grand-kids instead of just watching them play. EVERY choice we make makes a difference, so be sure to remember all the choices you've made, not just the bad ones.

Struggling with stress. It's unbelievable how tired stress can make you. And next week will be busy, but not with stressful things, so hopefully it will be better.

Never mistake failure as final

They call it a diet, but it's really my life.

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.
