Dancingallday,

Just how many calories can one burn on her workouts? With all that intensity, I would think you'd burn quite a bit. Granted, not as much as a body builder, but quite a bit...

JM's workouts are intense, but not THAT intense where you need to eat like a bodybuilder. You'd probably consume twice as many calories with a protein shake as you would doing one of her workouts. I'm usually hungry each afternoon by 4PM, so I'll have a light protein-rich snack (a few almonds and a banana, or string cheese) and wait a half-hour, then do my workout. Plus PLENTY of water: you may not be burning a ton of calories with JM, but man, are you ever SWEATING! So I try to drink a couple glasses an hour or 2 before and a couple after. No sports drinks: again, JM doesn't burn that many calories.

Hi!

Regardless of when I do a JM workout, I eat something with protein within a half hour of completing the workout- usually string cheese (reduced fat). I've read that ingesting protein within an hour of working out helps the body with muscle recovery. I've never been a fan of protein shakes because I not only dislike the taste, but many are filled with calories, and I hate the idea of ingesting the same amount of calories which I just expended. I would rather take in protein as food and part of my usual diet for the day. Having said that, I don't see anything wrong with protein shakes, as long as the shake takes the place of a meal rather than in addition to regular diet. I'm curious as to what others think?

I usually do it in the morning, so I eat a little of my breakfast before the video and the rest after.

Since Jillian Michaels' DVDs are very intense, does anyone take protein shakes or something similar after her workouts? What works best? I'm attempting to start back doing her DVDs on a regular basis, and started with 30DS - level 2 yesterday. Today I am tired!
