Has anyone ever tried the Biggest Loser exercise dvd's? After watching Shay(heaviest ever on show) workout, I had to take some inventory of myself. I've got knees that have hit their load limit...standing is torture...can't walk to the bathroom without breathing hard and sweating...etc I think I need more than chair yoga, areobics, dancing, or anything else done in a chair. I just can't help feeling like if Shay can do it, (at more than 150lbs more than me)then why can't I? Am I just scared to push myself? Are their dvd's too much for the avg person 200+lbs overweight? Are the exercise dvds for the "plus sized" as effective while sparing me the heart-attack?

LOL at TWILGHTMOM's post about yoga!

(That's why you make sure to be in the back row of the class! lol. But not sure what's worse - people seeing your own display or having to look at everyone else's!)

I have to give a shout out for the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds videos. She has one mile up to 5 miles now. She's very positive and perky. There aren't really any plus sized people but most of them are folks that lost weight with her program (some over 100 pd loss). It's four basic steps-walk in place, front kicks, side steps, and knee lifts.

Thanks for the info on the yoga dvd. I saw that in collage catalog and wondered if it would be good or not.

Some people succeed because they are destined to, but most people succeed because they are determined to.

Hugs,

I can't find any of those for UK members. But I would recommend getting a Wii. You can choose which games to play, standing, sitting, or on the floor. (personnaly can't do floor exercises cos I can't get up LOL) It's good fun too so I'm always eager for my next go.

I have to agree with the women below who recommended Just My Size Yoga. I've done it many times before and I love how although I weigh over 300 lbs I can still do the warrior pose or even a few seconds of downward dog! Wear a sports bra though because some of those positions are hard on your back and/or pull on your chest.

For another seated option, check out the SP exercise videos. There's one that's a 20 minute seated resistance band workout. I haven't done it yet, but I just got resistance bands yesterday and plan to try it soon.

Has anyone here tried T-Tapp? It's a great book and DVD--very low impact aerobics with each rep no longer than 8 repetitions. I recommend it for any of us who have trouble doing more strenuous videos. Check out her website--she has free video clips that will let you try before you buy...heck, I got a good enough work-out with just those free clips!

I have an older VHS video called In 2 Grand Form that's a really nice cardio workout for larger women. Also the two-VHS set Yoga for Round Bodies is very *retro* in style but an awesome introduction to doing yoga as a larger person.

Barb, I just checked out that Kellybliss website and I really love it! I bookmarked it to go back and really check it out good. I like the concept of fitness at any size, and to learn to love the body you are in and be the healthiest you can be. That is a good message. Well worth checking out that site. Thanks for the tip!

The part that made me post this was the part that really annoyed me...The Shapely Girl videos are not being sold by the large merchandise retailers like Walmart because they are made for and instructed by plus-sized women and they ( being the buyers) feel obese people don't exercise and therefore won't buy the videos. That is prejudicial, judgemental and just plain WRONG! Fitness is for everyone and should be equally available to all members of the community.

Okay, I feel better now. I'm done. emoticon

....slips in with a copy of my fav get started chair exercise info (for strengthening & balance, range of motion etc... for anyone needing slow, gentle movements, can be done all sitting &/or some standing) ~ doing this program has helped me to lose the cane ~ most of the time!!! *yay* :)

emoticon DID YOU KNOW? I recently read somewhere... that... in the last several months, not even 20% of Americans exercised? That within 3 weeks, most people give up on their New Year's Resolutions? Instead, we need to change & find a happy making & healthy making way to eat & move... look forward to how exercise will make things better in our lives ~ how we feel when we get those endorphins a rocking & a rolling! How we can laugh, dream, enjoy moving!

emoticon You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is. ~ Ellen Degeneres

emoticon Sit & Be Fit (free tv PBS) schedule for anyone with limited physical ability using a variety of exercise & easily adapted movements for range of motion, flexibility & core strengthening... i record these & do @ my convenience ~ used to poo poo them as too easy, but they have helped immensely to get started & in some places I do more, in some places I'm building to do what is shown ;)

emoticon various equipment used in the various programs but not required and instead, you can easily use items from the home, instead ~ towels, resistance bands, small balls, light weights

Check the website for more info on the program

And here's a schedule for the tv programs (when and where it airs by State)

Tina girl, how have you been?

Those look great too! I just might order one. But the music is hilarious, once I got used to doing them I'd have to use my own music, lol! But that goes for just about all of the workout videos out there.

I'd love a salsa one geared to our weights, but so far haven't found any.

Ruth you are so right! I saw a Jillian Michaels' "beginning" workout on the Collage site but her idea of beginning and mine are two entirely different things, lol! It was good (the clip I saw) so maybe sometime in the future.

Thanks, Linda, thanks Dusty! You know nothing irks me more than exercise videos stated to be for "weight loss" performed by anorexic-looking bony women! Of course they can perform the moves, they don't have 150 extra pounds on their bones!!!! I want to see real women, doing real moves because it makes me feel like I can do it too! I also hate exercise videos where no one in the "class" is over 25 years old. How fair is that to us 50 somethings?
I want to see someone who is not a spring chicken performing those moves. Then it feels real for me too. I'm all for supporting videos like these. I saw the clips and for the most part I liked what I saw.

NANAPEACH / Linda posted about this site on The Smokin Hot Jalapeños BL3 thread and I asked her if I could post a separate thread about it.

"Collage Video has two new videos aimed at the plus-sized woman. They also have a lot of well known stuff and many specialized videos for people who need to exercise sitting in a chair, for elderly and all kinds of special needs fitness videos. Fitness is for everyone."

They also have short video clips so you can preview them.

I just ordered the Let's Get Moving DVD.

Designed for plus-size women, it’s an easy-to-follow program that’s safe, fun and motivating. You’ll burn fat as you build confidence and re-discover the joy of movement. It’s led by Debra Mazda — a high-energy, 165-pound fitness pro (who once weighed 310 pounds — she knows that “fitness comes in many sizes”).
