Happy Sunday to all!

I'm down only 1 lb this week, but reached another landmark. There are many, many landmarks to reach and it always motivates me to have many set up, whether it's a lb. number, measurement, month or simply another successful day OP! Today I reached the Obesity Class 1. For me, it is a wonderful landmark to reach, as I have gone from a starting point of a BMI of 45.1, in the Class 3 (maybe 4, as I may be off by 1), to a BMI of 34.9 of Class 1 obesity. I have also been OP for 7 months now and am down 55.8 lbs. Tomorrow marks the beginning of month 8!

There are SO many multiple NSV increase mobility. I am able to get down on the floor and back up as well as take a shower SO much more easily. My belly now has several inches between it and the steering wheel. I am able to walk more and be on my feet longer. And, I just plain have more energy and am feeling better about myself.

I love MF and I do feel like I am making life-long lifestyle changes. Now, I'm off to try out my new Babycakes Donut Maker----oh NO not what you think! I have discovered Metallica Mom's MF recipes on-line and a going to try making some bagels, etc. with the MF meals.

I wish you all wonderful weekends and much success and becoming healthier! emoticon

Hi Julie,
I am reading the Survival Guise. Guess that I will read the memoir next. I have been taking the following supplements- Biotin, D-3, EFA and digestive aids. Almost every day.

Will discuss the additional 2 oz of protein on days when I have an assertive work out. I actually think that I will lose more if I ate more. You could be right about starvation mode. Something to discuss with my coach.

Have an awesome week; I'm here if you need some chat or encouragement.

Suzze, Congrats on your 1.6 lb loss! I know, I kept thinking I should lose more after the first couple months than 2 or less lbs per week, but everyone is so individualized (menopause, etc.) and exercise CAN play a factor. Gosh, I've read so much (I'm quite the researcher..on anything of interest) that I don't recall if I heard it from my TSFL coach or read it on a blog or in a book about adding in 2 oz of extra protein. I'm sure you will feel much better and it will help you out in the long run in losses!

SO glad you are enjoying her book...which one, the memoir or the survival guide? I read the memoir first, which was great, and is what actually convinced me to try MF as I knew nothing about it and had not considered it prior to reading it. The survival guide by her is great for more of the psychological issues long-term that we need to deal with. Also, regarding the skin and sagging, Biotin is a good supplement to add it seems. A lot of MFers are using it and I have added to my regimen (when I remember :).

Have a great week!!!

Julie, congrats on the 1.8 lb weight loss. I lost 1.6 lbs this week and was disappointed because I thought I should have lost more for the amount of work/cardio that I put in. No one ever told me to add extra 2oz of protein if I exercised more than 30 min. No wonder I am hungry! I am exercising an hour/day. Where did you find that? I would love to show it to my coach.

I am LOVING SUDDENLY SKINNY! The no BS approach writing style is refreshing. I am spending time doing circuit weight training so that my skin doesn't sag, based on the Freya Taylor's experience. I am 40% dome with the book ( according to my Kindle.) The best investment of $4.99! I am chuckling every time I pick it up to read. Thanks for the recommendation. Every serious Medifast loser on this forum would benefit from reading this book. An easy and fun read.

Yes, it's important to eat enough food, especially if you exercise much. Your supposed to add 2 oz extra of protein if you exercise more than 30 minutes/day. You don't want your body going into starvation mode and preventing fat loss, nor do you want to always be hungry.

I continuously read and reread Freya Taylor's books and pick up new things. The Suddenly Skinny Survival Guide really addresses various things that are dealt with both during and after weight loss, like how to handle being treated differently and the extra attention. She is a very 'no BS' sort of person and I find quite humerous at times as well...not unlike myself!

So, how are things going for everyone out there in the MF community? I'm down another 1.8 lbs this week for almost a 55 lb total...yay! emoticon

OMG! I just had half a cup of low fat cottage cheese ( 40 calories), because I exercised so much today. It helped hold me till my L&G meal at 6 pm. Frankly, I don't think that I am eating enough food. I never have any pb or cream cheese. I need to read Suddenly Skinny. I noticed it yesterday while perusing through Amazon, that the Kindle version was. $4.99. I will download it now. It will give me something to do instead of timing how long till my my next meal lol! So glD to hear that it has become a way of life. Hope to feel that way one day. For me, it is still a day at a time.

I agree that I can see keeping a few of the items in my life forever. The Brownie at 3 o clock with my cup of tea, is a guiltless pleasure. The chocolate mint bar after a work out is another item that I see incorporating into my post Medifast life. What are some of your faves?

Hey there Suzze! thank you for the kudos! MF has truly become a natural way of life for me at this point. I can see eating some of their products long after I have reached goal, or hopping back OP to keep my weight in check if need be. I can see this as being a true change in how I view food. I am, however, scared of eating anything that was my trigger foods. So, transition scares me a lot!

I have two books written by Freya Taylor called Suddenly Skinny (one is a memoir, one is a 'survival guide' of during and after MF) and she talks about always being hungry on MF. She lost 109 lbs. She made sure she had her dill pickle and cream cheese snack just before bedtime and everything. I really enjoy having a snack of celery and a homemade concoction of non-fat greek yogurt, a little natural peanut butter, stevia and a squirt or two of sugar free coffee syrup-peanut butter. This is a real treat for me! Sometimes, if I get super hungry right before bed or even middle of the night, I'll have a few bites of low-fat cottage cheese. I guess the dairy items help me sleep and feel more full.

Wow, both of you have done so well losing weight on Medifast. I am only a few weeks in, and I am still hungry between meals. Don't know when this hungry phase will end. Maybe I am exercising too much. I walked 3 miles today.

I will look on You Tube for those meal-mash-ups. They sound kind of cool. Nice to meet you,SANGREE!! Congrats on your weight loss. I am down about 18.5 lbs in six weeks, feeling very proud but still hungry.

Hey there everyone! I am now 6 1/2 months into MF with maybe a total of 2 weeks off plan in that time, but never any sugar. If I am on vacation, etc, I just go low-carb and increase fat and calories. It seems like an easy way to shift back to the MF without any horrible weight gains or withdrawal from sugar. It also prevents me from having sugar binges, etc. and going hog (pun intended) wild and getting back OP. I never really go 'off' plan, it's usually just a few things here/there. But, I am typically day in and out OP. Anyways.....I am 6 1/2 months into MF and am now down 53 lbs...yay! emoticon I just love this plan!

I had been avoiding whole categories of MF foods from either not liking them or being afraid to try them. Now, I have been watching Metalica mom on Youtube and she makes these fabulous MF bakes in her babycakes little donut maker (typically 2 meals). So, I'm going to try some of the oatmeal, eggs, muffins, etc. and see if they really are as good as they look. It sounds marvelous getting more variety/flavors in since I have been OP this long. I'll let you know...the new MF meals and the donut maker are both on their way! :)

Hi!
I tried to download the book on my ipad, but it wouldn't download. Did you download it to your computer? I am on week 4 of MF and have lost about 15 lbs. I get weighed in tomorrow.... Nervous... Been doing my 5+1 with very few cheats (if any). Need to keep losing to stay motivated. Any tips?

I'm not sure if you were asking me, but it took me exactly 8 months to lose 60 pounds.

If you think about it this way, doesn't it seem like we just celebrated Christmas? Well, if you'd started MF then, it would already be 8 months later!

Yes, I went through a phase of that too and was drivin me nuts! I am post menopausal too, but only a couple years. I think I was breaking out around month 3 or 4 on MF. The hormones do fluctuate! I added in some zinc and biotin and vitamin B and things calmed down after a couple weeks. I think it was just a hormonal shift though. It has now passed (thank God) as I am bad at remembering to take my supplements now.

I am just thrilled at my 5 month and 1 week mark that I have finally reached wonderland and am down 47.4 lbs emoticon

I am headed to Lake Tahoe and will be making my 17 year partnership legal there on the CA side next Monday! emoticon

Hi Booboorn,
Try topically applied progesterone cream to help counteract estrogen. I notice a big difference in my attitude since taking it - way less irritability. Good luck!

I always have more energy on MF than off, it's weird - I usually have difficulty getting to sleep when I first start due to the energy. I went through early menopause, so pretty much done with the hormone thing, now just irritable because I have zero tolerance for stupid people :0)
I do notice that even though I'm post-menopausal that I have flashes with MF - I am assuming it is due to all the Soy protein and it being a phytoestrogen, which concerns me.

Have a great week - just finished week 2 down 10 total. Gone are the days of losing 10 the first week :0) oh, well I'll take it and not complain sure beats where I was heading.

Sayyes, so glad I am not alone with the hormone surges! It's really the first time I've experienced road rage and it is really not like me to care about trivial things like that! It takes me quite by surprise! Wow, 30 lbs in 7 weeks, that is amazing! Good for you! emoticon

I too have read about fat cells releasing estrogen with rapid weight loss, which would increase hormones/emotions. I've read the opposite too. But, am inclined to believe that it is true just from personal experience. As far as the thyroid, I am alternating days (I take Armour) between my typical 90 mg (and having two 30s, equaling 60 mg). So, I think that is balancing out things somewhat. Dropping down to 60 each day was too much and I was freezing again and low energy.

Surges of energy, anger, and hormones -- all happening! I read somewhere that hormones are stored in the fat cells, and so rapid weight loss releases the hormones.

I am on thyroid meds too, so I wonder when to lower the dose? Getting close to a 30 lb loss in approx. 7 weeks. Exciting!

Hi Julie,
Energy surges - I wish! I am post-menopausal and find on this plan I am coping with very low energy. I do take the MF B-12 pills, not sure they help. Inches and mobility are great NSV's this week - it's all about improving our health! have a great weekend.

Great job Booborn and Lisa!!! Glad to have some other MFers joining in our journey together!!! It always helps having support and learning from others on the same journey! I'll be here off and on over the next year and am glad there are a few others here to bounce things off of!

Has anyone noticed the surges of energy? How about surges of hormones, irritability, anger? Surges of the good ones too. I am in my first couple years of menopause and also take some thyroid supplement. I just never quite know what is doing what. So, wondered what all of your experiences have been thus far?

My NSV for this week is my increased ability to get up and down from the floor with greater and greater ease! I just love becoming more mobile! Big bonus!!!

My weigh in day is tomorrow and I feel like I've really lost inches this week, even if not the pounds. So, either or both are great!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Great post, perfect description of how I used food too. It was a wonderful/temporary sedative for any given situation. Enjoying taking a break from food, nice not having to think about it all the time. I have decided to finish this time with MF, last time I got to my 60lb loss and was so pleased - feeling good for the first time in decades that I thought I could manage on my own. Life got in the way, and I really hadn't made the changes necessary - no new tools in my box after all.
This time, I am going through the maintenance phase and really learning what I need to about my emotional connection to food and weight.
Just finished week 1 - down nearly 8 pounds. Gotta love those first 2 weeks, such a boost

I love that..."using food as an anesthetic". It is a perfect description of how I used to use food. I would say "to escape or numb out"...but "anesthetic" really nutshells it.

I am doing great on the MF. I am down 35.2 lbs in 14 weeks (began March 2nd). I, too, believe that I will truly be able to reach goal using this plan and am concurrently trying to deal with the emotional reasons that got me to where I was so that I never have to repeat this process and will finally be able to maintain. I began Dr. Andersen's habits of Health book and workbook and am SLOWLY getting through it off and on. I am focused on what I will need to do to transition and maintain.

This plan feels so easy and what a nice break it is from dealing with all of the food choices. However, I know that eventually, I will have to begin making those choices again for the long term and am working on making permanent lifestyle changes as my weight drops.

So, how is every one in the MF world out there doing? ( just love using that acronym emoticon

Sounds like we had the same holiday weekend. I just re-started MF, it is now day 5. I am feeling great and just have to keep the focus. Hope you have great success. I have decided I have to see it through - including the maint. phase. No more getting excited about 60lbs lost only to gain 20 back. Need to secure the habits of health for life.
Keep moving forward, good luck to you. emoticon

Hello All:
I started MF on May 5, and have lost a total of 10 pounds so far. It has really been a struggle---I lost 7 lbs the first week and lost nothing (even gained) until week 4, when I lost 3 pounds. I am hungry and cranky and my social life is definitely impacted. Every time I have a glass of wine or a bit of bread, its back to square one. I just received my second order of food so my goal today is 7 days of MF perfection so that I can get back into the fat burning mode to stay. I am committed to 90 days and this is my second 30 days so it is time to quit mucking around.

Hi Bexx!

I am doing pretty well on MF. I am actually surprised at how "easy" it has been since I have been on diets since I was a teenager. This process is probably the first time in several years where I have started believing that I will be normal size by the end of it.

Hi Valerie,

You might want to take a look at the emotional side of why you eat. I am working on that concurrently with MF. I know I can adhere to a program -- as long as I am not using food as an anesthetic.

Just a thought -- there maybe more to it than boredom...

I guess today's the day I'll admit that I've only been flirting with MF for the past couple years. :(

I started on 2/18/11 and quickly lost 60 pounds; almost reaching goal. Then, life, a major surgery, and boredom took over and I lapsed. I maintained my loss for about a year and then slowly gained a few pounds here and there.

Now, I'm up more than I care to admit--about 30 pounds back on; sigh.

It's a holiday weekend and yesterday I gave in to temptations that were so easy to avoid when I was 100% committed. I don't like the way I feel now (again!) or the way I look. While I know how well the program works, I have a struggle going on with my inner dialog: is there truly a way to maintain the weight loss after MF? There's no way to eat within the MF profile, so am I doomed to always regaining and then coming back to MF for loss again?

Had the conversation again this morning with my sweetie. I KNOW that MF works if you work it. I need to regain the commitment I had before (perhaps it was the excitement?) and stay the course, one day at a time.

So, today's a fresh start, and I'm off to make breakfast!

Anyone out there still active on MF? I started in April 2014 and will be in the weight loss phase for at least a year or more, so I am looking for some companions on the journey. emoticon So...if you're in this phase, or if you've completed it...come back and say hello!

I enjoy the blueberry muffins. Not a fan of the Mac and Cheese for two reasons it lacks a cheesy taste and the noodles either don't soften up or soften up too much and becomes mushy. The ziti marinara is very good especially when you add a pinch of Italian seasonings

Congrats to a great first week!

I'm tiptoeing around with MF, after quickly losing 60 pounds. I got too comfortable with my new low weight, feeling great, etc. and have gained back about 25, which is pretty upsetting, to say the least!

But I'm really struggling with being 100% (hell, even 80%!) committed to MF again. I don't know why it's so hard this time, when I know it works.

My biggest dilemma is this: I know it works, so I keep telling myself I need to return to it. But then again, while I was off plan, I was eating very little, staying extremely low carb, only eating while hungry. The only real change has been that I haven't been exercising, due to issues with my feet (which are nearly resolved, finally!). If nothing else, this weight gain has proven how important exercise is!

But in a way, I'm seeing what a trap MF is. I'll keep going back because I know it's proven, and it works, but truly, how can we ever maintain the weight loss when we return to 'real food'? I'm struggling because I'm feeling a bit caught up in a scam.

Hi all!! Im comming to an end with my first week on medifast! I started on tuesday dec 3rd. Just weighed myself and I went from 285 to 275.9!! Total of 9 pounds!! I figured I would join blogs to help myself staying motovated. This is my second time on mf. The first time I was on mf I lost 40 pounds but got off program and gained it all back. I started a week ago with no questions asked I had the food so I just started I felt this was my last resort to weightloss and the only other resort after this would be going to talk to my doctor about weightloss surgery which I really dont want to do!! I am 25 years old and need to get this weight off! My goal weight is aroun 130-140. Considering inhave SOOO much weight to lose im setting 20 pound goals for myself and so far im 1 pound from being half way to my 1st goal! Ive been sticking to plan pretty stict only thing I am doing which is not recommended is I am having 1 grapefruit a day with lunch or after dinner! I feel alot less deprived doing this. What do u guys think about me doing that? Also any recommendations on the new food such as mac and cheese ceareal or blueberry muffin? Thanks for reading =)

Welcome Majenta95 and congrats on taking the first big step! This is such an awesome program. The holidays bring challenges, the first couple weeks have your biggest weekly losses usually so if it were me I would wait till the day after unless you have the willpower to stay away from the potatoes ,bread and desert. Turkey is allowed and so are veggies so it depends on what tempts you the most. Drink lots of water it helps a lot. Good luck to you and keep us updated on your progress.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I got too anxious to weigh, since I've had five really good days since I recommitted to MF. Was rewarded with a four pound loss! I'm determined to reach my goal and know that MF will get me there. I've always said 'the program works if you work it.'

I'm modifying it a tiny bit in that if I'm not hungry, I'm not eating. I've recently finished reading Martha Beck's Four-Day Win and have a new attitude toward my poor body, which I've loathed and belittled for most of my life. I'm taking a gentler approach, using MF as my tool, and staying connected to the journey.

It also depends on what part of the country you're in. I think the shipments all come from Texas, so for me being in Oregon this means it takes like a week for my food to get here using standard shipping.

UPS isn't too good here. They have the delivery date for Tuesday. I've seen them keep packages and won't deliver until the delivery date. So looks like I'll be diving in on Weds.

So upset. I had lost 10.6 lbs in two weeks but just weighed myself again and I'm up 4 lbs since last week! What could have happened? Retaining water? Too much for my lean and green? Help!?!?!

Love the name....Flabsgottago! Haha. I started 2 days before your last weigh-in and have lost 9 lbs so far! I am super excited that the first week went so well. The first three days were agony as my body adjusted to low carbs, but after that I got my energy back and feel pretty great. I had a craving last night for something sweet like chocolate, but ate a bit of cheese (off plan) and was satisfied. I figured that cheating a bit with 0 carb foods is better than cheating with something sugary and loaded with carbs. Good luck!

After 8 mos on TSFL I'm down 75.4 lbs and there's almost 3 ft less of me to look at. I'm below 200 lbs and I haven't been here in 20 years. Today I actually weigh less than what my driver's license states. Got 34 lbs more to go to get into a healthy BMI. This program works! I have no more pain in my knees or back and I can't wait to get back to the gym once I get off the weight loss phase so I can tone up. I check in with my health coach once a week (or whenever I need her) she's been an absolute blessing. I love how this program helps you along the weight loss phase, then through transition all the way into maintenance. They don't just dump you off like so many other programs. My struggle is going to be keeping this weight off FOR GOOD and I believe this program will help me do just that! emoticon

Hi, welcome. The first couple of days were hard for me too. I got headaches and a little bit lightheaded, but it went away after about a week for me.

Congrats on the 4.8 pounds so far. This is a great program, and as long you follow it you will lose (weight, that is!). I'm in my sixth week, and have lost about 25 pounds so far.

Thank you!! :) I am now 4lbs to goal. I've been reading those books every second I get. I am thinking of lowering my goal a bit to have some room to gain back the muscle when I start hitting the gym. This program is so awesome. I'm seriously thinking about becoming a health coach with them to spread the word :)

Going well here. I think I'm at week 12. Down 41lbs. Less than 10 to go! Scared to see transition in my near future, haha. I need to get cracking on my Habits of Health book reading . .I'm not half way thru yet! So exciting. I haven't cheated at all. I've handed out Halloween candy, hosted 2 parties, cooked cookies, brownies and cakes. . and had NONE. I want this goal badly! haha. :)

My first week was very similar!!! I then this week (my 2nd week) got sick with a sinus cold...so that didn't help. but I did feel better this week on my eating...and if i got light headed...its because it was time to eat.

Hi everyone. This is my first progress post. Wednesday will be the start of my second week on MediFast/Take Shape For Life. So far the program has not been too hard. Previously I've juice fasted (I'd recommend) and water fasted (I do not recommend) for health and personal growth so I know what the "hunger" feels like. You adjust when its something you want to do. Someone posted here on SparkPeople that they call them "shrinking pains". Thank you Poster who I can't find to give you credit! After I saw that, I was fine. It helped immensely with my perspective. Now, No Worries.

I've been tracking my intake in SparkPeople just to be sure my vitamins and nutrients are where they should be. Everything seems spot on! MediFast really has this program down!
Tracking in SparkPeople also helps me to make sure I got in every meal, plan my meals so I don't eat just bars :-), make sure I take my vitamins and supplements, and track my water intake and exercise. My only exercise right now is walking my dog which I have to do anyway. Or I'd have a very bad tempered dog.

Thanks for being here everyone. The community on SparkPeople is awesome!

Edit: I forgot to say I have IBS and I've had no gas problems! Don't know why but Love It!

Hi Mickie,
Congratulations!! You are an inspiration. Today is my first day on Medifast and I want to be under 150 pounds too. Your goal weight would be perfect for me too. I have about 40 pounds to lose and so I am hopeful to see some results and to learn along the way!

Thanks for sharing,
Patty

Nancy - I think it takes about 3 days to get into fat-burning. So, you should be close! When I first started, I was a little fuzzy-headed for the first couple of weeks, but it did go away. It was also the start of school (I teach 8th grade math), so I was completely wiped out, too, which probably didn't help my transition into Medifast. But I survived!

Good luck!

Mickie

I just started back up with Medifast Wednesday. My head's a little funny first thing in the morning still, but eating and a couple of cups of water fix that pretty quickly.

My scales are down 2.4 lbs since Wed. morning already! Do you think I'm in fat-burning already? Or will the morning head-fuzziness go away completely?

Congratulations, Mickie! So very exciting, isn't it?

I too, have noticed how darn slow the scale is moving now. It's a little hard not to get frustrated.

I've been making plans for when I'm done eating MF food too. One thing I'm going to adopt is the plan that my husband has been on since April (he's lost 49 pounds!). Here's a link to it:

Hi all,

I'm still in the Weight Loss Phase, but I'm nearing Transition. I've been bouncing around a goal weight, and I think I've come up with a plan.

I originally said 143, as that would be 50 pounds on Medifast. But a few things have made me rethink that.

The weight loss has slowed as I get closer to goal, and I don't really want to spend 4-6 months losing the last 15 pounds or so. I'm getting mentally ready to move on to the next phase. I also am not unhappy with my body where I am, so I don't think I have to go all the way to 143 to declare myself "done."

I know I want to be in "normal" BMI range. That's at 154. I want to be under 150. I had thought I would make it 148; that's what I hit when I hit goal on WW (but only stayed for about 15 minutes).

I just thought of the fact that 147 would be 50 pounds from my all-time high. I'm a math teacher, and nice "round" numbers and a sense of symmetry appeal to me, LOL.

So...147 it is.

Depending on where I am in my month of food when I hit 147, I might finish the month before I begin transition. But I'll wait and see about that.

I'm reading "Refuse to Regain," recommended by another Medifast user who is very close to goal. I think it's going to be very helpful. I do NOT want to return to where I was before. I want where I am/will be to be where I am from here on out.

I finally understand the "lifestyle" aspect of this journey that has alluded me for years.

Mickie

John 15:4-5 - Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

The hunger should subside some after the first week! Hang in there!

Day 4 almost conquered and I have lost 4.6 lbs. Really hungry still, but telling myself that these are SHRINKING pains.

I am also 75 (Dec. 10,'36)...I have tried unsuccessfully for years to lose this d___weight and
have not had any luck until I started on the Medifast program. It's working and so ... I will
stick with it. Lots of luck. emoticon
