Hi all!

Can we switch over to the May thread? I like seeing how much more we're posting in 2016 than we did in 2015! Year Of the Rookie Runners!

HI team. The fishing was about 10 miles off shore so not too far. I could still see land:)
Carrie, WTG!!
Nera, I think the school uses the phrase "your student" because not everyone lives with his/her parents.
I do think the school dropped the ball by not letting parents know that there was a student death. No details need to be given, just a death and grief counselor son hand. If it was the first suicide in a while it would be difficult for the administration on the correct response to both kids and parents.
Kristin, yay for short runs:) and finally being able to provide nursing care to patients alone!
I forgot what else. Anyway, hi to those I missed.

It was a difficult week last week. As you know, our cat was dying of lung cancer. She was doing ok, being her usual self with a bit less energy. Last week, she started to decline rapidly. By Thursday, she did not want to go outside and wasn't really eating. We had to make the difficult decision to humanely end her suffering. It was tough for both of us as we live in a small space so she was always around, no where to hide. It does get a little easier each day though.

Happy May:)

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Quick check in. Weekend was nice but not enough running. Too much yard/house work!
Hoping to run over my lunch hour today but a rumbling tummy isn't helping that idea.

Sounds like everyone is amping up on the running a little (or at least the exercise in general)!

Hi all!

This morning I ran a 10-mile event with 40,000 other people. It was fun, but very cold and rainy. Only about 46F at the start with rain for the whole event. Not just drizzle, legit rain. And it only got up to about 50F by the end. Yikes! I took the longest hot shower ever and a nap, and now I'm feeling better.

It was mostly mental hurdles to get over, but I have to give my body a huge shout-out for getting me through the race with less-than-stellar training and a longest run of only 6.83 miles. Thank you, body!

Now that my classes and this race are over, I am going to take a look at some yoga studios and also ride my bike into work more often. The cross-training is going to help my running overall.

A quick update this morning. Hot and humid this morning. I'm not used to it yet so I finished my "run" by walking the last couple of miles. 6 miles total. Now I am off to take a short recovery nap!

I think the school should have sent out a letter too. It would help parents and see about opening conversation between kids and their parents. I have a real problem with the school system as it is in my state at least. It seemed to me the schools were trying to undermine the relationship between parents and children. Often sending home letters that referred to my child as my student instead of son or daughter. I actually sent a form back with the phrase your student crossed out and wrote in my son or my child. I think there were like 20 spots I had to do that. Also often ran across the attitude from school employees that they knew what was better for my son than I did. I am convinced that if I could find my son's permanent school file it has on the cover in big bold red letters Beware of Mother she is Difficult!!!. I take great pride in that thought. LOL!!!!

Hey everyone!

4 days until tax deadline...gotta get my butt in gear!!

Tonight I did a wonderful hike with my friend - 2 hours done! Before this hike, I did 5 more hours of hiking this week, and also a 2 hour gym workout...you know what??? I am proud of my work!! Wish I would admit that every day.

James, you are doing awesome!

Nera, sounds like you had a blast!!

Carrie, wow, you had an awesome week!!! So happy for you:-)

Doris, thanks, I showed Missy your post:-) So glad you are doing well after your race!! You rock my dear friend!! Josh would have LOVED to be fishing with you guys!!

Kirsten, just Love, love, love how you are doing...micro runs are awesome...but being ready and waiting for solo shifts are even more awesome!!

Skirner...yep,, that is not right!! Makes everyone revisit the event over and over again.

Anyhow, have to fly,

Hugs,
Trish

Yeah, I was not familiar with bull riding alone either, always as part of a rodeo. My step-dad used to run a rodeo, and my twin and I did rope tricks as kids.

Concerning the suicide of my son's friend.. what gets me is the school never notified parents in any manner. To me, that is just wrong. I understand not naming the student without their parental permission, and not using the word suicide until the coroner/police declare it, but I think if even a letter/notice went out that a student in the student body had died and grief counselors were available, etc. Makes me rather angry that they decided parents needed no notification, only whatever their high schooler decided to tell them. When they call at least two or three times a week at 6 PM with an automated call about some upcoming event, meeting, etc.

Lastly, my running routine lately has only been on Thursday mornings. I really should add at least one more day, maybe a Saturday or Sunday run. But today, Thursdays, I do a run walk interval for just over 60 minutes, as I want to sign up for a 10K end of May or early June, but have not found one close to my location, that isn't too expensive yet. Today, it was 5.92 miles in 66 minutes and 15 seconds. I always seem to reach a point though, where I work so hard running, and I can't seem to improve my time. This time was a tad faster, but ugggh... So much effort for like 10 seconds.

Kirsten yes bull riding can be part of a rodeo. That is how the PBR got started 20 years ago when the bull riders from the rodeo thought they could make their event a stand alone event.

I love your tag line first time I have ever been quoted on the internet. I feel flush with triumph. LOL!!!!

Hi gang!

Well, lots of catching up to do...

Nera, Rodeo is NOT bull riding. Got it. But, the rodeo can inCLUDE bull riding, right? lol! I just love how GEEK you are for bull riding, Nera.

By the way, you never said anything about my new signature tag line...

Trish, I'm glad to hear that you and Miss decided to step out of sports for awhile. I know this must be hard for her, but it's a really smart choice.

Doris, technically my patients shouldn't be sick sick. If they have a cold then someone brought it in to them and we get grumpy about that! But, orientation activities are a prime exposure ground since no one wants to miss orientation. It's held once a month and if you miss something you can't work till next month. So... yeah. I went as well. Bad nurse. Those fish sound aMAZing! You went way off shore, I take it? Did you eat them??

Carrie, you are amazing! 7 miles? You're certainly leaping out of that rut.

Skirnir, I'm so sorry about the suicide. Such a terrible trauma :( How are you guys holding up? Talk about it, talk about it, talk about it... keep the lines of communication WAY open. Big hugs and bubble wrap for all.

Becca, I'm SO glad you gave the boot the boot! Now what's up with the side? I've been thinking of C25K again as well.

Hmmm... hit the wall. That's all I can remember right now.

I've been successful at getting out for 'micro runs' - 15 minutes at a time - every few days. Just enough to get my heart pumping and enjoy some scenery. Run for 15, walk back. It's not 'enough' but it's what I can do right now.

Orientation is almost over. I only have one more classroom session and four more 'buddied' shifts and I'm on my own. I've been nervous, but I think I rounded the corner this week. I'm sick to death of working with a partner. I just want to do the work on my own, in the way I like to do it. I like to spend time with patients, take the time to educate them and answer their questions, show them how to do their own stuff (rather than hustle through it for them). I'm reasonably efficient, don't get me wrong, but I like to get to know folks and find out what they need to feel WELL, you know, not just get 'er done and fill out the paperwork. So. Yeah. I'm ready to pull off the training wheels! Also had my grad photos done today. Almost there folks. It's been a looooong strange trip, but we're nearly done.

HI team:). Where does the time go??
Trish, hope Missy's concussion symptoms clear up soon and she has no lasting issues. Glad to see that Josh is still going strong with his sports. Our taxes got done, I kept putting it off until almost the last minute. I thought we would owe the govt. money, but it turns out that they had to give money back to us:)
Nera, I have only been to one bull riding rodeo. It was fun. I also went to one rodeo, it was fun as well. I think that you are a bull riding fan:). Hope your sinus/cold issues are better.
Kristin, hmmm. Another cold? It might be job related, after all, you work with sick people. I used to get every cold or flu out there during my first few years of teaching, now, not so much:)
Skirnir, hi. Glad to hear you are getting it done as well. Running is fun and challenging and even painful at times.
Carrie, yoga has really helped me with tightness in my hips and back. I am mostly pain free now.
I don't remember what else!!! I should take notes when I read back over a week. No, I should check in more often!
So, I had no lasting tightness or soreness after the 17K race last weekend. I have been out three times running, shorter distances though. I am working on speed now. I will need new sneakers before I go longer than about 3 miles. For some reason, my toes do not like the sneakers I have now for more than 45 minutes or so. I have lost three toe nails because of them. I think one of the new nails is going to come off in a while as its all puffy underneath. Huh.
I went fishing on Saturday with our boat neighbors. I caught three fish. A 45 pound wahoo and 2 Mahi Mahi. They were between 22-26 pounds. My left arm is still sore. The wahoo put up quite a fight!
Happy work week all.

Yes I would have had to be delirous or in a coma. While I really enjoyed the event the PBR does have some problems with how they organize things. The autograph session afterwards was suppose to be down on the dirt but the crowds made it hard to get there. And they were letting fans stand at the rail and get autographs. So at one point I could not get to the dirt or to the rail so I missed a few riders. Because even though we were told they would circle the rail then come back and sign on the dirt that didn't happen with quite a few riders. They just went around the rail quite quickly then left. The whole event had a lets hurry up and get this done so we can all get out of here vibe. I have a picture of myself with the president of the pbr and my son says I should have told him my concerns. But timing is everything and it really wasn't the time. As I said I got the three up and coming young guns and two veterans I really wanted. Most of the guys who were there were quite nice but there was one I got a whiff of not wanting to be there from. I would go to another event but would be better prepared on how to get to the autograph session. Because once we figured out to go racing through the seats and not bother with the aisles due to the crowds we got to where we wanted pretty fast. In fact Brad could barely keep up. LOL!!! He didn't know I could move so fast in cowboy boots. I took the next two days off work to recover and glad I did as this cold or whatever just won't quit.

Hi all!

Got in almost 7 miles this morning. I had low expectations for my run, but it actually felt really good! Working on getting my life together.

Total run mileage for the week was 14.45 - that is MUCH more like it for me. I'd like to get between 12-20 miles a week on the regular... it's a good number for me.

I am glad you made a decision on Missy's sports involvement. I hope her symptoms clear up soon.

I got no meds from the doctor. Says it is just sinus dripping down the back of my throat and to use over the counter stuff. I did but boy that stuff makes me feel weird. A night yelling at the PBR didn't help. It was such chaos getting autographs this time. I know I missed a few riders and a couple including one I REALLY wanted didn't come back out and do autographs at all. We stayed until security pushed us out the door. LOL!!! This morning at 3:30am when I couldn't sleep due to coughing I wish I knew his hotel number and I would have called and told him what I thought about that. LOL!!! But I did get two of the bullfighters and the new three youngest riders on the tour that are doing so well. They are just such nice boys and since they are all 18,19 they are boys. Great manners. One took a look at the little quilt I made for them to sign and said it was cool and he needed to give me a nice signature. What a nice boy his momma would be proud of him.

Hey everyone!

I have decided to take Missy out of everything until she has no concussion symptoms. Her coaches agree with me, so all is good. Tomorrow is opening day for Monkey's baseball team, should be a good time!!

Nera, thanks hon - I passed on the well wishes, and she said thanks and hopes you are doing well. What kind of meds are they putting you on?

Becca, nicely done going to the C25K program!! So happy that you are without the boot:-) Hope the the prednisone keeps doing the trick:-)

Skirner...yikes, I'm so sorry you guys are going through that - suicide is a hard thing to wrap your mind around, especially for young adults. Hugs and prayers are being sent your way!!

Gotta fly, hugs and love!

Trish: I get you on wanting to bubble wrap your kids... Mine isn't so much physical, even though there is that, as he is a new driver. A friend of my son committed suicide on Monday. My son went to the visitation and vigil last night and the funeral and cemetary today. The friend was in marching band/winter percussion and so a few are having a sleep over tonight, to kind of comfort each other. I just wish my 18 year old did not have to face the death of a friend so early in life, especially by suicide.

Never been one for watching bull riding or rodeos much. My step-dad used to do that kind of thing, ride in rodeos in some manner. But I am too much of a prune to enjoy such things.

Do hope the concussion stuff gets better. I have no idea how that works long term.

It's been awhile since I have posted anything. I picked up some extra work so my days are a little busier and I'm not able to get on here as much. Trying to diligently log my food and exercise.
No more walking boot, yeah! Still dealing with this right side back, rib, abdomen thing. Got some prednisone which seems to be helping.
I started a couch to 5k this week. Decided I should take a way back to the beginning and restart my running. Hoping to avoid injury.

Trish sorry Missy is still having concussion issues. Is there anything that can be done or is it just time that will help? Say hey to her for me the crazy quilt lady from Minnesota. I am off work again today and off to the doctors in about 20 minutes. I will be getting drugs because this is the weirdest thing I have ever had.

Oh man Trish sorry to hear that. I hope he feels better soon.

I who am rarely sick just came down with some sort of chest congestion. Not sure what it is but coughing up some ugly stuff. This is the second time in about 5 months that I came down with something out of the blue. Family doesn't have it no coworkers have it. Bad part is PBR is saturday and I have had my tickets for 3 months and they weren't cheap or refundable. So this will put a crimp in my style but I will still be going just probably not yelling as much. LOL!!!

Hey everyone!

Today Monkey and I spent a schwack of time in a walk in clinic, as well as Emergency...he had an appendix attack...thankfully, it calmed down, and he still has it in his body. We are still on alert, but seems to be doing ok.

Not rodeo Bull Riding!!! Yeah baby. They just announced this is the last year they are coming to Iowa. I guess they don't get the crowds or something. So next year not sure if I will get to go. They have one in South Dakota that is about the same distance from me as Iowa but it is in February and driving during that time of the year can be risky since snowstorms are still a possibility. Yeah we can get snow at the end of April but it is a lot rarer.

Good morning all!

I am slowly but surely getting back into a fitness/wellness mindset. It's been slow going - Not sure why I can't get in a groove, but I'm taking small steps to make it work. I planned out my food for the day and have my workouts scheduled for the next two weeks.

Hi all!

Got in a little over 4.5 miles this morning. It was incredibly beautiful this morning, and it was light at 6:15 (hurrah!) so I could get out nice and early.

I've been doing better with my nightly stretching, so my hips are getting happier. In two weeks when my grad classes are over, I'd like to add a yoga class or two to my weekly routine.

The 16K race ended up being 17K, just under 10.4 miles. In south Florida, the only hills are bridges so the course was pretty flat. I did have to run up three stories for a pedestrian walk-way at mile .75 and at mile10. The chimp rescue was pretty cool to see. Many of the chimps ran along us, hooting and hollering. One of the rescue employees said they were cheering. I like to think they were telling us we were nuts to run! I finished under the goal I set. I figured 2.5 hours for 16K when I did my walk/run routine. I finished 10.4 miles in 2 hours 19 minutes:). I was pretty happy with that:). Now, I need to find better running shoes. I something with a wide toe box and lots of forefoot cushioning. Anyone have any ideas or preferences?
I am surprisingly not very sore today. My quads are a bit sore but otherwise, all good. I am thinking a very short 30 minute run tomorrow.
Happy running rooks:)

Hi all!

What a beautiful day! I spent a lot of time outside and a bunch of time going through paperwork inside. I had so much accumulated junk paperwork all over the place! One of my long-term goals is to make a "home" for everything in the house.

Tomorrow is a run day... gotta get out there.

Haven't checked in in a few days. Friday I was in charge of taking 90 students to NASA in Houston. 6 hour trip one way. It was a success and no major problems but we got back pretty late so I shifted my long run to today. So this morning I did a 6.2 walk/run. My longest run since I started back. It was really humid this morning and warm so it was a tough run but I finished strong.

Apparently I had not checked in for about 7 days... weekly email made me check in.

Kirsten/Goegirl: What is the new job? (Okay, in continuing to read through, a nurse.) Canít remember if I had heard or not. Parties also suck it out of me too. Some parents would do sleep overs and stuff with half the class or more as their kids birthday party, and well, I just canít put up with people for that long. Nice party pics.

Carrie: I hope you figure things out. I am trying to figure out what my life should be about too. Limiting your schedule is a good idea.

Here... son just went to prom last night and got home shortly before 1 AM, all in one piece. As I went to bed about 5 minutes after he walked in the door have not heard much about it yet. Hopefully later today. Now we just have to finish up graduation related things and choosing a college related things. He has to decide on a college by May 1st and he is having issues doing so. All the colleges he applied to are great schools, but he is half leaning towards UCLA and his parents are somewhat against it. About $10K more than the a few of the others, as they offered scholarships. Also my son has asthma and air quality in LA is not supposed to be very good. Doubt we can pull off a visit before May 1st, as it is a 5 hour drive. Had thrown out the possibility for next weekend, but family does not seem to be saying yes.

Hi all!

Got in a nice run this morning - I have been clearing my calendar for the rest of April and I'm going to focus more on ME. I just have to make it through the next two weeks of grad classes and I'll be golden.

Tonight - hanging a new dry-erase calendar to keep track of fitness/wellness goals and accomplishments.

Off to drink some water!

HI team. I have no idea why I keep getting unsubscribed from this team. Sheesh. I did read the posts I missed. I am impressed with mountain running, orientation for new job, DH having surgery to feel better, and then, all the not so good stuff.....
Carrie, are you teaching still? I can say that it is exhausting work. I was always tired when I was teaching. I had 26 years of tiredness to catch up with:) Trish, concussions, yeah, I had several when younger, falls from horses mostly, and I now have chronic migraines attributed to them. It's nothing to treat lightly. I know you aren't! Umm, huh.
Tomorrow is race day! It's my first race in several years. I am ready!! It's sounds weird but I rested my toes this week by just walking in sandals. Got my race packet yesterday. Lots of goodies in it!!
Stay sane rooks:)

Good morning. I am off clothes shopping with a friend. It is so hot in our office because they won't turn the ac on yet. So very little ventilation happening. Hope to find some lightweight skirts or capris because it will be a week or two before the turn on the ac.

BUSY week, but great! Orientation is almost over and I start ACTUALLY being a nurse on the 25th. It's creeping up on me....

Got a couple of decent runs in this week. I'm really enjoying exploring the trails in my area - they are AMAZING. I can't believe I've never found them before.
Still pretty cold though.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Hey all,
Was supposed to hit the gym today, didn't...but, I did hike Mount Boucherie again...and ran back down:-) Having issues staying focused on work right now...and my tax deadline is 17 days away, so that is a bad thing. Tomorrow is a new day...LOL:-)

Kirsten, cool pics hon, looks like a great time:-)

Carrie, just hugs sweetie, Kirsten is right, find a goal, or something that will help you through this blah time...I just made mine, going to try to run Mount Boucherie by the end of September:-)

Hugs and love,
Trish

Carrie, I definitely understand where you are coming from with the exhaustion. What can you cut back on, or do you have a 'real' break coming up soon? Something to rest and reenergize you? Maybe spring will be enough. Hang in there. This too shall pass.

Here are a couple of pics from our Harry Potter Party

Hi all.

Time to take stock of my life and figure out how to manage myself in a smarter way. I feel burned out and exhausted. I *am* fighting a little sickness, but the exhaustion is real. You know the book "Year of Yes!"? I need a book called "Just Say No!" to doing things that I don't really want to do. Sigh...

Hey all,

Today was another good one...did a hike after dropping Monkey off at baseball...it was supposed to be the EASY lower trail...ended up being easy for about 100 m, then straight up the hill for a heck of a long time!! Nera, I am pretty sure the flights of stairs are perhaps understated for hikes. Today it was 94 flights, and we did almost 35 mins straight up a mountain:-)

Penny, I would totally do your taxes...just scan and email me the goods, and I will make it happen:)

Hugs,
Trish

Trish don't trust your fitbit for an accurate stair count. I went outside for a walk yesterday flat residencal street and when I got done my fitbit said I had done 5 flights of stairs. I wish I did all the stairs that it says I did because I would be in much better shape. LOL!!!

Trish, if I slide you my taxes would you do them? I don't know why but I just cannot get interested in doing mine this year. Unusual that I've waited this long. It's not like I know I owe big amounts of money...

WTG James! Today's my rest day so I'm attempting to rest. I'm bad at it. I'll probably still hit my goal steps for the day.

Hey everyone!

Today's hike was amazing! My dear friend and I decided to take a trail off the normal...almost 10 k's later, and 115 flights of stairs (per my fitbit)...it was a good one for sure.

Kirsten...LOL, yep, I totally understand the party drama!! You are amazing:-)

James, you are rocking this program!! Nicely done:-)

Gotta fly, tomorrow is a lot of taxes, a ST workout at the gym, then a hike while monkey is playing baseball:-)

Hugs,

Hey yall! This morning was just a 1 mile recovery walk. I'm planning to increase my running time during my weekly runs from 1 1/2 minutes to 2 and to increase my weekend long run/walk to 6 miles or a 10K. But really I'm just trying for another consistent week. I've heard it takes 21 days for something to become a habit and this week will mark 21 days since I got started back again. So here's to a good habit starting!

Hey gang! Kids parties really suck all the energy out of me. Harry Potter party went very well. There were potions and pie, a full candy trolley... Fun was had by all. Then I slept for 12 hours. I guess it didn't help that I also cleaned out my basement and decluttered the front room at the same time as party prep. I'm doing a juice week this week and start orientation for my new job full time. Can I just say, I can not believe what these people are going to pay me. It almost makes all the stress and anguish and thousands of dollars of education and future therapy bills for my children worth it!

So, going back...

Trish, that date must be hard. I have no idea how painful this must be for you and your kiddos, not really. I just know how my heart hurts for you all. Will you be able to take a little non-stressed family time around the date, just to celebrate Don and recharge a little? Whatever gives you guys comfort, you know? As for Missy, being sidelined must be like the end of the world for someone like her. I can sympathize because doing my favourite things (running, and now gardening) have been medically forbidden so much. It sucks. It's hard to find something to replace your FAVOURITE thing in the world. She is at a good age to start discovering new things though. I really, really, really hope she can find a new passion to pursue soon - breathe new energy into her life right now.

Nera, that's great about hub's surgery. The fruit basket/mango comment is the most hilarious thing I've heard in forever!!!

James, way to go! Consistency is key :o) What have you got planned for this week?

Doris, sorry the nasty running seems to be catching. Every now and then eh? Call it taper tantrums.

Becca, a stress fracture? That's awful, I'm so sorry! Have you had one before? And sorry too about hub's diagnosis. It's great motivation to clean up his lifestyle :o) Is he a sparker? Can I just give you one tiny word of advice, don't let it be primarily your problem. It's awesome to support your partner of course, and it sounds like you do a lot of the cooking so a lot of onus lands on you that way, but people do best with diabetes management when they take responsibility for their treatment. I have had patients who don't do any meal preparation of their own but still track their intake, for example. Men often do worse with diabetes because they're not used to planning and tracking intake. Sorry if this is in any way out of line, it's just a hurdle I come across so often that I feel like it's my duty to put it out there.

Ok, I'm here procrastinating a run, so I'd better get out there.

See y'all soon.

|Hey everyone!

Tomorrow I am doing a hike with a girlfriend, today I did no workouts, but did a bunch of taxes:-)

Awesome job James!!!

Skirner, thanks, one day it will get easier!! As for the concussions, they were all received playing ringette...we are worried about her playing soccer now though. I hope your son does not have any of the lingering issues! I would imagine he would have already had to deal with them.

Nera, glad the recovery is going well!! EWWW with the moldy fruit...but yep, juice away:-)

Gotta fly,
Hugs,
Trish

Nerus: if it is a Harry and David fruit basket, if you let them know, they will replace it for free. Ours was left outside at our backdoor by UPS and froze in Wisconsin before we found it and Harry and David replaced it for free. Glad your hubby's recovery is going well. Wish his work place was a bit nicer.

Trish: After I asked the date question, I looked back at your spark blog and figured it out and yeah, I suspect that will be a hard date for you. Sad to hear of MIssy's concussion issues. Luckily my son playing soccer had only one head hit and he did fall out of a grocery cart once. Hopefully not enough to cause issues, but I doubt they test for such things much until recently.

Becca: I hope you have a better dietician than the one I saw when I had gestational diabetes. If he or she does not give you a lot of information about the disease, then get a new one. You need more than someone telling you what to eat and not eat. IE each person's body is different and some of it, you learn from testing your blood sugars. What you can eat and when... breakfast was the hardest for me. (Gestational diabetes was diabetes when pregnant, but in time, I will probably develop it as I age, but that was why I did the weight loss on sparkpeople.)

Trish what about sports that don't involve a ball, puck or whatever, like swimming or track? Still get to compete and some team commaraderie but nothing flying at the head. I hope you can get things figured out for her.

Hubby's surgery went well and he is recovering just fine. He hasn't had to use the pain pills they sent home with him. He plans to go back to work on monday. His work has been not very caring about him being out. My work has been fantastic and even sent him a gift basket with fruit and snacks and other goodies. The fruit though is not very good. We had to throw one piece out it was rotted and that was the day we got it. I think we are going to juice the rest of it. LOL!!! When life gives you questionable mangos make juice. LOL!!!

It's been a good consistent week for me. Capped it off with a 5 mile run/walk today.

Hey everyone!
I was going to bail on my workout tonight until my daughter called me on it...so hit the gym and did 550 cals of cardio....anything is a good thing right?

Missy is having a really tough time with her noggin right now. She had a really bad concussion last year, took another head shot early this year from ringette. At provincials, she took another head shot. She had a sore head that night, and didn't want to hang out with the girls, but felt well otherwise. After having a bunch of tests run on her, it looks like she has repeat concussion syndrome...and has to keep away from all sports, as well as any school subject that makes her headaches get worse. I am having her vision tested on Tuesday, and am working to get her head MRI'ed. Wes has told us that she could get concussion symptoms by sneezing too hard now. I'm just so scared for her...she loves sports, and I can't imagine how her life would look if sports were ruled out. We will figure it out for sure - she is an amazing lady, has a lot of interests...for now it is a toughy.

Nera, sounds like the surgery will do the trick:-) Hugs to you my friend!! xoxo

Skirner...May 3, 2013 is the day my hubby passed away from cancer....it is a tough one still. Kidlets are exhibiting some pretty severe things this year.

Doris, nice job dealing with the boat!! Very cool that you are trying to give someone else your sneaks!! Hope you find someone that is a good match:-) Thanks for always being such a great friend!!

LOL P!! Remember, it takes a week to change your appetite:-) How was it getting home? I bet your kidlets were so excited to have you back:-)

Becca, hope you SF heals well!! What a pain in the butt though:-) As for hubster, I am so sorry he is dealing with this. Did they give you any indication if diet and exercise can reverse?

How was Annie???? I LOVE that show:-)

Hugs and love,
Trish

Got in a short run this morning. It was a tough one. I hate it when every step hurts and I can't breathe properly. Sheesh, just one of those runs. This weekend is my last long-ish run before the 16K coming up. I am glad I had these other shoes to run in as my toes are much happier today:). These will get me through the race then I can decide if I need new ones or if they have some life left in them. I think they have life left in them..
Happy Friday all:)

Hey all. I have read all the April posts so I feel like I am a little caught up.
Lots of things going on with the group. Hang in there everyone. Life is a journey not a destination!
I have a walking boot on my foot, diagnosis stress fracture. So, I have kind of been on a pity party the last couple weeks.

Hubby was diagnosed with diabetes a few weeks ago. He has started medication and we meet with the dietician next week. I really need to get better at cooking at home. It works well when I meal prep so that is on my agenda for the early part of this weekend.

Date night with my middle DS tonight. Dinner and a show. We are seeing a youth production of Annie. He has never seen ANY version of Annie! Where have I failed him!

Near, hope hubs surgery goes well and he does not drive you crazy while he recovers.
Trish, I would think that this date will always be tough for you and the kids. Know that we are with you, supporting you and your chicks.
Kirsten, sorry about the bad run. Happy about the Harry Potter b-day party.....can I have one?
Who else, skirnir, what's up? You need an easier name to type. My fat fingers have a hard time with it, or maybe it's the teeny, tiny keyboard I use...
Me, no run today. Instead, I put on my bathing suit and scrubbed the outside of the boat. When I got hot, I turned the hose on myself. Boat is looking MUCH better. Still needs a bit of elbow grease in a couple places, but certainly much cleaner:). I do plan on running tomorrow. My toes think they are ready to be in the "new" sneakers.
Does anyone know anyone who wears a size 9 1/2 running shoe with narrow feet? My "old" sneakers are Hoka one-one, conquest version. I love them for less than 3 miles. My feet a bit wider than the sneaks so I have very unhappy toes in them. They have about 100 miles on them............ They are not cheap and I would like to donate them to a good home.

Yup laproscopic surgery is what they are doing. My hubby was surprised they are taking it out. He thought they just took the stone out. I was surprised because per the diagram the small incisions are much higher than I thought. I was thinking below the waist because that is where his appendix scar is I just thought they were kind of in the same neighborhood. This is why I am not studying to be a nurse. LOL!!!!!

Gosh, Nera, sorry to hear that!! I'm hoping, because you said he's going to be outpatient, that it's just laparoscopic. There are only tiny incisions and the recovery time is very quick. Of course, this means that 'the family' (aka - you?) will be doing all the nursing care... Good luck! Hope he feels well soon and doesn't drive you crazy.

Skirnir, the party is for my soon-to-be 10 year old son. My daughter (13) and her friends are super jealous of it - I forsee another in my future.

Neraus: Hope your hubby has his surgery and recovers quickly. Glad he went to the doctor. Males sometimes have a tendency to ignore pain, if they can.

Kirsten/GoGirl: A Harry Potter birthday party eh? I do not think we had one of those. But fun to see Harry Potter is still popular. How old is the kid, boy or girl?

Life here has been quite interesting the last 72 hours. Hubby went to the doctor yesterday because has been feeling off since saturday and had this weird back pain. The doctor poked around and said you need to go to the emergency room. After 5 hours there was decided had a gallstone and was having a gall bladder attack. They sent him home but he had an apppointment today with general surgery and they agreed he had gall bladder issues so he is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. It is suppose to be an out patient surgery unless they run in to problems. All of this has not quite sunk in yet.

Hi all! Run yesterday was HORRIBLE - as bad as my very first run ever. Blech! Picking up and moving on. Working on getting my house cleaned up before starting my new job next week. It has about four years worth of clutter and 'extras' being left undone to catch up on. Gee I wonder why... also, apparently my husband is a terrible housekeeper. sigh. Also getting ready for my son's Harry Potter birthday party on the weekend - this is practically a full-time job!

Glad the toes are playing nicer, Doris. Happy taper week!!!

Penny, good luck with the training - and congratulations on the Round the Bay, in case I didn't say so already.

It's time for me to dust off the bike as well. Two years ago, I took part in the Tour for Kids and, this year, I'm back at it. T4K is raises money to help the families of kids with cancer. It supports research AND sends the kids to camp. All I have to do is ride almost 300 kms through the mountains in three days. emoticon Oh, and raise $1200. That's the easy part. LOL. The good news is that 100% goes to the kids. Oh, and I have a great group of friends doing it with me.

Run yesterday w As OK. I wore a different pair of shoes with a wider toe box so my toenails were much happier:). Now, just to begin the taper week.....hopefully the blisters under my toenails will heal before the race!

HI team. No formal exercise here today. I am thinking about going paddle boarding but I might no. I am feeling kinda lazy today! My poor toes are feeling a bit better. I slept with socks on so they Wouldn't run against the sheets.......sigh. I did not know you could get a blister underneath a toenail! Sheesh. New shoes for sure for me!

Had an awesome weekend of running/exercise. Saturday I did 4 miles and kept a consistent pace for the whole run/walk. It was my longest and best run so far and it felt really good. Then on Sunday my wife and I took advantage of the mild temperatures and went for a 2 mile walk. Then this morning I went for an easy 20 minute run/walk. It's only been a week but I already feel confident and am on the right track!

Cstream: Great one on the 8 miles. Lately I am working up to a 10K, so did about 5.4 miles on Thursday run walk intervals. Completely flat though.

cheaperbythedozen: Heh. Your daughters wedding about you. :) I have also had a bit of an issue lately with that easter candy. Found some on 70% off at Target today and just had to buy a little, as hubby was about out, and of course I had to eat a little.

Scotian: No marathons for me either. Half marathon is as long as I will do, and I do intend to do another end of the year or sometime next year.

Trish: Sorry to hear about the friends memorial. The hikes sound nice though. Really would like to make a few more friends in the area, but I guess that takes time.

I need to try and checkin with the group more often. I forget as the month goes on and then I loose track of what is going on with everyone.

Doris-OUCH!!!! Blisters are no fun! But, I giggled at your audience---they were probably thinking you were coaching them up the hill.
Kirsten- HI!!!
I have been busy lately- hubby's parents go south each winter... just for 2-3 months. I went over there the week of Easter and found water spraying everywhere! The next day I took our shop vac over to try and help... I couldn't. And the stench was overwhelming! NOT sewer but hubby thinks it was their 'crock' overflow that couldn't handle the days and days of the water that was overflowing the system. Anyway, lucky them-they get new carpet and walls ! They'll come back late this week to a brand new basement. They let me pick paint and carpet. Of course, I let hubby help (he and his dad have similar tastes ) so we went with his paint choice (same color as our own basement) and his carpet type but my color choice. It'll be gorgeous!
So, I'm lifting twice a week, running 3x and walking another 3 x. After Easter though I caved to sugar/candy. I need to get a hold on that. I'm going to try on my MOB dress tonight to give myself the boot. Daughter reminded me it's 47 days til her wedding!! I need to be smokin'.... it IS about me, isn't it? emoticon

Tough one Trish. I don't think you ever get over missing your loved one(s), you just learn to carry on without them.

So, it's definitely my sneaks causing the toe issues. My blisters have blisters today! I am going to lose at least two toe nails, maybe three. I have another brand of sneaks that I shall run in on Tuesday, provided I can put on socks over my poor toes. Sheesh. The good news, 8 miles seemed like nothing!!! I did my usual run/walk, staying on schedule and I could have run more or gone farther:). It helped that at my turn-around point is a nice beach with outside showers. So, I got my head wet and let the water drip everywhere. It was nice. At the beginning of mile 8 I ran up the bridge. It's not a long uphill but it's pretty steep. I growled almost the entire way.....I can do this, I will do this....it was nice to get to the top and realize I had an audience that cheered for me:). There was someone running behind me. Then, all downhill to finish. Phew.

Gotta go figure out what's for dinner. Have a great Sunday night Rooks

Hey Rooks,

Today was an interesting day for me. Did a big 'ol hike with friends this morning...it was really nice to spend time with a bunch of ladies and getting our sweat on. After, we hit my dear friends memorial service...it was nice, and very tough. I was fine until we walked into the funeral home (it was the one we used for Don as well)...brought me (and Missy) right back...

Tomorrow we all get our hair done, and I also get to go for another hike. Monkey has baseball and a birthday party.

Hope you all have a FANTASTIC April!!!

Hugs,
Trish
