Hi team. A beautiful day today, blue skies and sunshine, just not very warm! yoga and a walk today. I am hoping the yoga helps my ITB and right calf stretch and relax. The left one is good! Phew.

My SIL wedding is today. Last night got to see family hadn't seen in years. As for exercise about all I am getting is going up and downstairs to my sewing room. Decided after watching something on tv it is no longer a sewing room but a sewing lair. LOL!!!!

I got in just shy of 8 miles. I had to stop at 7.93 miles because 16 oz. containers of blackberries were 3 for $4 at the corner stand on the way back to my house. There was no way I could pass that up!

It's actually pretty chilly today - I could have worn a long-sleeved shirt and been fine.

Hey all,
I am hoping that I'm finally going on a streak that will stick. Josh and I did 3 hikes this week - super challenging, and a ton of fun. My hammy and butt are feeling better, tried to run stride, but can't do that yet. So will continue to hike and enjoy the outdoors.

I had a great first day at work! Everyone in the office is really helpful, and the families all seem to be great so far. I'm in part-time to train for a few weeks, and on June 23rd I go to full-time hours. Hurrah!

No exercise today. I feel like I am coming down with a cold, my nose is drippy, my throat is sore and I feel blechy. Tomorrow I will exercise even if I still feel blechy. I think the weather is reeking havoc on people, yesterday it was in the mid 80s, today was 50! Where is spring????

Hi all!

I had a decent 5-mile run this morning. The sun was out and the humidity was low... a really nice day. I start my new job tomorrow afternoon (it's training part-time for about 2 weeks) and I'm really looking forward to getting back to a routine (and earning a paycheck!).

Our first sailing adventure was this weekend. We left Saturday and got back just after 6 tonight. It was marvelous!!! So, the only exercise I had was today, walking around an island for 45 minutes or so.

No running for me but did go walking with son and hubby yesterday. I miss that kid.

The quilt project hit a snag when the section I spent all week on is too big proportionally to be used. So this last week most everything I did is not useable. I am more upset about the lost time than anything else. So today will be spent getting myself back on track. The bad part of that is it is a lovely sunny 70 degree day and my sewing room is in the basement. Oh well life of an artist and all that nonsense. LOL!!!!

So life is going pretty well - Josh is playing in a baseball tourney this weekend. His last game saw him pitch 2 no run innings - he was SOOOOO excited:):) I wasn't there for it, as I was coaching Missy's soccer team in Kelowna - the girls tied the game, so proud of them.

Still not running, but moving closer for sure!! Hamstring/butt is playing ball, hope within a couple of weeks.

I find that I never get tired of volunteering for one of our fave Race Directors in this area! She keeps it so much fun and it's loaded with energy! I also find the the athletes respond with enthusiasm and great effort!
I always suggest that all runners should volunteer at least once a year and pay it forward! We know how a good volunteer can provide physically and mentally for those who compete!

Yeah Carrie congrats on the new job.

Would you believe that the guy who said that to me is the ceo of my company? He speaks to groups all the time. Not the first time he has put his foot in it. He told my direct supervisor that her hair looked good today. I was like that sentence really should end with good. My hubby has learned the hard way you never know what kind of reaction you will get when you tag that word today on the end. LOL!!!!

Yesterday I had an interview to be a substitute teacher in a nearby school district. They called this morning for me to sub. I had recess duty, a new thing for me! Today was a rest day, scheduled it that way earlier in the week. Phew. Although I could run after school as they finish at 2:15.

Hi all!

My morning run was replaced by a group bike ride to deliver donated books out to a West Philly elementary school. It was a great morning for a ride, a little overcast and not too humid. There was a nice size group from the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia using backpacks, panniers, and bike trailers. Such a great cause!

Did 5.4 miles yesterday, and managed to run non-stop most of it. My runs usually consist of a lot of hills, and at around mile 4 there was a very steep hill I am not used to and it left me tired, so I took it ‘easy’ after that. All good though – I am trying to increase my distance so this is part of the training.

Cstream – Glad to hear you’re enjoying your runs.
Carrie – I get into moods like that too. Lists help keep me organized.

not too uncommon to have the first mile or so feel crappy, sometimes it is your warmup, time of day, food or your body just looking for that grove.

Carrie, I have to make a list. If I don't, I sit and read.....not a bad thing but it doesn't get the laundry done or the groceries purchased! I do schedule time every day to sit and read. Some days I don't because I get in a groove and just finish projects. Its all good.
Today, the run was better. Each mile was progressively faster. For the first mile, I walked whenever I felt like it. Average speed is still slow but slowly getting faster. I am not in a race with anyone so I am OK with slow:)

hi all!

Tater - My running has recently turned around too. The first mile (sometimes even two!) I feel really heavy, but then my body gets into a groove. I wonder what that means (if anything)...

I've been struggling lately with getting stuff done other than my workouts. I do my workouts no problem, but when it comes to doing work or tending to other obligations, I procrastinate like crazy. I think I might start giving myself a daily schedule just so I have some kind of consistency. Like today? I had stuff to do but opted for a really long nap. Sigh...

CStream - I started experiencing that myself and wasn't sure why. I used to be the opposite - the first mile I was on fire - but lately I feel 'heavy' and can barely move. The second mile is surely better and faster.
Nera - I think that man needs to learn how to communicate with people.

Run day for me, however I need some backup plans this week because it is predicted to rain the next four days. Gotta love my Memorial weekend inside.

Okay the design of the quilt was finalized today. No pieced blocks but phrases appliqued around the edge. So happy I know what I am going to do. Lots of putzy work but do able. I told him the sample I did was rough(he didn't know what applique was so I had to work up a sample to show him) letters were just hand drawn and not all the same size. I did this in about 20minutes. He liked it that way. Liked the folk art aspect of it. Said if he wanted a perfect piece he would have gone to a high end quilter. Know what he meant but how he phrased it was kind of a slam to my ego. LOL!!!

Just a quick Hello to everyone!

Yesterday I ran/walked my first 6 miles emoticon
I know it is not much for this group but reading your posts keep me motivated to keep on training, so I thank all of you for sharing your experiences and stories.

My next goal is to run the 6 miles non-stop, and then I can start improving my pace (yesterday I had an average pace of 10.20 minutes).

Judi - it is like ballet. Lots of plies and releves, lots of being up on our toes. It was so wonderful and I can't wait for next Thursday's class.

Got in some good biking today - this nice weather is perfect for bike commutes. I feel like I'm getting stronger and more confident on the bike.
Tomorrow morning I have a run scheduled... probably about 4-5 miles. It's going to be another nice day!

Judi – Barre uses a lot of moves taken from ballet and dance lessons. It challenges your stability, so they pick moves to target that. The one I did, I had to repeat the same moves for ten or so reps, and then move to another one.
Carrie – I am glad to hear you enjoyed it. As I said I only did a 15 minute session, but I could see it being a very challenging workout. I will try the same video again to improve on it, then maybe find a longer one with the hopes that I do not need to hold on to a chair.

Is Barre like ballet?

Ran some intervals this morning, and they felt great. I almost made a ten minute mile for a whole mile!

This morning I walked 1.5 miles to the running store for new sneakers, always a good thing. Then, ran 2.5 miles. Thought I was done for the day, nope. Walked 1.2 miles with DD to the post office then 2.2 miles with DH. So, now I am done. Phew.
Hope everyone has a great end to the work week.

Carrie - Let me know what you think of Barre. I am anxious to hear your perspective. Enjoy that run!

Yesterday's run was miserable. It felt like I strapped weights to my calves and ran 4 miles. I felt so heavy. We cannot always have great runs, right?

Hi all!

I had an amazing 90 minute yoga class last night. The Wednesday night class focus is alignment and breathing. The time flew by!

This morning is a 4-5 mile run and then a barre class.

Nera, I know how you feel, about being the artist and all. My Mom wants me to make funeral urns for her and Dad when they die. (not for a while yet as neither is sick or in poor health) She told me she did not care what they looked like or what color they were. Then, after I made one, she told me she wanted a different shape and a specific glaze, not the one I picked. Sheesh. But, as she is paying me, I am OK with a cookie jar instead:)
More stinking laundry today. It never ends.......... A quick 2 mile run this morning then a 1 mile walk this afternoon. Cold and windy, still.

Carrie – I found a barre video online and it was only for about 15 minutes so I cannot really give much input. I enjoyed it for the most part but I have no balance so I fell a lot emoticon Which means that I need more sessions! For someone like me I can see the potential of barre workouts.

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today should be a run day for me, and then I have 2 days of graduation parties so I need to make today’s workout especially worth it emoticon

Hi all!

Tater - I'm doing a barre class tomorrow for the first time - you'll have to let me know how you like it!

Yesterday was a little over 8 miles. Today is a rest day, with a restorative yoga class this evening. I'm headed out for some shopping with a friend - we are looking for some new workout gear. I love getting new workout gear! I think it's my favorite kind of shopping to do. Ha!

My exercise has tanked. I have been busy getting things set up to start this quilt. Now I just have to take a deep breath and start. I always hesitate when starting a project. Like jumping in to a lake just have to jump. For mother' day my on gave me a new journal so I should keep track of this project. I know once it is done the feeling will fade and I need to remember why I don't want to do this again. He isn't quibbling over cost but he wants to pick out the fabric and make all the designs decisions. Why hire me if you just want a seamstress? I am an artist and putting color and design together is what I do.

LONGGGG work day. Did a bit of gardening in the middle break I had. Had to shower after it was so stinking hot! Seems we skipped spring but at least we aren't still having winter like some!
