CHEPRBYTHEDOZN- We have been lucky to not have too many viruses go through our house this year too. Agreed- it is probably too cold for those viruses to survive!
NERAUS- Got a good laugh from your Bachelor comment! Bummer about those cavitities!
AIMLESSAM- I thought I had it cold but -25 and 65 MPH is ridiculous! We get that about once a winter in Western MN and that is more than enough! Alaska is on my bucket list of places to visit. I am addicted to nearly all TV show about Alaska

Last night was 3 miles on the TM. Tonight is supposed to be 6 miles but I am not sure how I can logistically get those miles in. DH works late, oldest DS is at church all night, middle DS isn't quite old enough to watch youngest DS that long. I'll try to get 1/2 the miles in at the track if it is open and the other 1/2 done on the TM at home.

On a positive- So nice to finally have some sunlight on the way to work!

Me, my box of tissues and many, many layers set out today for a walk/run. We went about 2.5 miles and only used about 20 tissues:) It felt great to be out there in 10F and 20 mph winds. I needed it:)
Tomorrow, DH goes to the dentist for a teeth cleaning then we "hunker down" for the storm on Thursday. Have I said I am tired of winter??

ANY ONE INTERESTED IN JASR THIS YEAR, HERE IS THE INFO.

Ok, SparkPeeps! This year we're going with:

Hilton Garden Inn
2000 Garden View Lane
Cranberry Township, PA 16066

(724) 779-9999

Ask for the "SparkPeople" block for $109 rate.

I also noticed on the Hilton site, that if you pay in full (no refunds), the rate is $92 per night.

There is no free breakfast at this site, but my sister, Tracy, made arrangements for a $5 continental breakfast, if you so choose.

There is a swimming pool and fitness room.

Hope to see ya there!

I'm a little bummed this morning because I skipped a run because of weather, which I rarely do. I live in Alaska, so bad weather is expected (and even welcomed). But even I had to draw the line at running in 65 mph winds and -25 temperatures. I have a cold, so I know it was the right call, but having a big zero mileage for the day is lame.

Trip to the dentist for cleaning and found I had two cavities. Sigh!!!! But it will be month before they can get me in. Small practices and the night appts fill up fast.

I am recovering by watching the Bachelor. That makes me gag too but at least with it I can yell at the tv to releave my stress. LOL!!!

Okay, so I guess I've missed aobut a week here. I've been exercising. Ran 7 miles last Tues. and then started with a stomach bug soon after (like within 20 mn.). I've had cramping after some runs in the past so I thought nothing of it... til I lost my appetite and still had horrid stomach pains hours later... and 2 days later... Anyway, all is well. Only 1 other kid had it but they are all getting colds (again). Actually, it's been a very un sick winter here. Probably b/c it's so flippin' cold, the viruses cannot survive going from one person to the next. :)
Ya'll are doing great on running and exercising! It's so much better outside than inside. Running inside isn't even an option for me b/c I have no tm or gym or indoor track. When it's too icey I ride the basement bike or do a dvd. Last night, it was snowing gorgeous fluffy flakes and there was new snow on the roads and it was dark.... and I ran almost 4 miles with my vest and head lamp. LOVED IT!! it was so peaceful and fresh out there. Today I did some hip work and Ttapp dvd. and grocery shopped... and laundry... UGH!
Baby's waking from his rare nap... off I go!

So, I had good intentions today of getting out for a run. It was in the low 20's. But, migraine sidelined me for most of the day. Now, I feel like I have been running all day. My face hurts (sinus infection), I have heart burn and I am tired. Whine, whine, whine. OK, done.
Tomorrow I go to pottery and the dentist. i might be able to find 30 minutes for a short excursion outside.

about 1 1/2 hrs on the snow blower and shoveling today, winter just will not quit. i usually love the snow but this year it seems like snow about every day..... jeeze

yesterday was a good day 6.2 mile run and 8.5 on the spin bike and legs still had gas in them. probably went a wee bit farther than i should have gone but i felt really good and have been lately .guess nearly 4000 mile on the bike the past 2.5 years is starting to pay off

just looked back on the last time i went over 6 and it was 1051 days ago. it was JASR 2011, the day the calf went doing a half marathon . never looked a splits for the at race before today first 8 miles was an 8:30 pace and the last 5 was close to 11 min pace. this is it i am done looking back, i must start looking forward.

maybe 2014 will be my year, started the year with the theme "no excuses only results" i plan to keep that all year

If you can't beat em join em. That is kind of how I feel about this cold weather and my HM training. Broke down and started running outside yesterday. Learned that I need a face mask even for three miles. Yesterday temps with windchill were close to zero. I wasn't so lucky with my long run tody. -22F with the windchill. However, I was prepared with the face mask so 7 miles weren't so bad. My fully charged phone died with about a mile left. I have to find a warmer place on my body to keep it while I run (not on my arm outside of my jacket. Especially since I often leave the 3 boys (13, 9, and 8 months) home alone when I go run.

Addicted to the Olympics! That is about all we have had on this entire weekend!

I just heard on the radio about a study that found standing in cold temps and shivering really burns calories. I guess they found that standing and shivering for 15 minutes causes a hormonal reaction that makes the body burn as many calories as an hour of moderate exercise. Wow no wonder I found it easy to stay thin when I worked outside as a crossing guard. I shivered for way more than 15 minutes a day. LOL!!!!

I am done with winter. We went to the boat to put diesel in the heater tank, I love lifting the containers (not), and we discovered some damage caused by the weight of the last stinkin' snow storm. Took pix, called the insurance company, covered up the holes so the winter stays outside and not in, then, left. Its too cold to be outside unless its absolutely necessary. Maybe tomorrow I will get out for a run. Its supposed to be 25F, a tropical heat wave!!!
Happy weekend

Trish yay on how well the kids are doing. It is great when they are able to give us the advice we should give ourselves.

Yes too much snow and too much cold. This winter needs to just go away.

Not much exercise this week. Now boys you might want to skip this next part. The joy of perio menopause is getting these erractic, crazy periods. This time I thought my body was trying to turn itself inside out. So painful to sit at work and pretend I am fine. One day I left early. I was out of supplies and out of patience and if any one had tried to stop me I think I would have knocked them down. LOL!!!

Now to return to our regular posting. I need to get back to my running. I have tried a few short intervals on the treadmill. It has been okay but nothing great. I think I need new shoes. The hubby got a new job which hopefully will turn permanent but with two incomes I should be able to afford new running shoes.

Good morning all!

I did 2.8 miles yesterday morning and it felt great. Today is a rest day - I am volunteering at the shelter this afternoon and I have a friend coming in to visit for a long weekend. Hurrah!

This group is great therapy! The GS cookies were given to me by a family I tutor - I decided to keep the box instead of throw it away (which, in hindsight, would have been the better idea) and I just went nuts. Ha!

I'm dressed for a run for the first time in 4 days - it's been that kind of week. I'm happy to report that the sun is out, and the sidewalks are looking good.

So, DH, my niece and I went to Boston today to see the Museum of Science. The museum was fabulous but the traffic was horrific! It took us 2 hours each way to travel less than 60 miles. BLECH!!! I don't understand how or why people commute every day. If I had to work in the city, I would live much closer and take mass transit.
Oh, the museum was a blast, did I say that already? Maybe its because I am a science geek.

Carrie- I knew there was a reason I no longer buy GS cookies! emoticon Don't beat yourself up too much about it!

We haven't had snow but just bitter cold weather. It is sad that twenty below zero doesn't actually feel that cold anymore!

I ran 5 miles on the treadmill yesterday. I had to break it up into 3 segments but got it done. My last segment I decided to run at a speed to an entire song, then change speed for next song, so forth and so forth. 6 songs later I was just over 2 miles so it was easy to add 2 more songs and get to 3 miles. It actually wasn't too bad! Longest run on the TM I have ever done!

I have a confession.

I ate a box of Thin Mints today (yes, a BOX, not a sleeve) and I haven't done a workout since Sunday. Cabin fever + a cold + generally being sick of winter = AAAAAAAAHHHHHH

I spent quality time at Run Group last night with friends who are elite runners. We discussed Halfs, Fulls, Ragnars, Ultras, and finding the perfect individual distances. We also spoke about hitting walls and bonking! I am definitely reconsidering my goals on the run...and that's a good thing.

Hey team. Not much happening here. you'd think it was the end of the world as we know it because we are expecting snow. We have had snow before and will get snow later. I don't know why the media has to make such a HUGE deal out of it. We are expecting 10-14 inches. We have had up to 3 feet at a time in the past. this is nothing. Sheesh.
Physical therapy today. Plum tuckered me out!

CHEPRBYTHEDOZN Great shout out to all the sparkies! Nice job getting out with little ones, and getting fresh air. I have not seen fresh air since Jan 14. All my runs, indoors emoticon

KS_PRINCESS115 Yes, you can emoticon

Monty, now that I am putting in longer runs, I am really feeling it in the quads, and the IT bands. Rollers are my friend! Sorry about the ankle. R&R. emoticon on PR.

Kathy, great job on the 6 miles! Walking helps to build stamina. emoticon

CARILOUIE, hoping you feel better today. emoticon

Becca, you are not along. I go to a field house and use the indoor track. It has been a respite from the treadmill. If I did not have a HM to train for in March, I might not be so motivated. Keep up the good work. emoticon

Bobbie, nice job on the spinning, chased by some running. Good job on the sparking the support. emoticon

Last week, wk#6 training, I put in a 10 mile LR, and total of 22 miles. Today will be a 4.5M easy run at the indoor track, before we get clobbered with 7 more inches of snow. It is pretty for only so long. I am ready to trade my snow boots for flip flops. emoticon

Tackle February strong!

Good Morning, All!

Yes, my quads & glutes are still sore from Saturday's Half. I'm also nursing a sore ankle. That injury will be explained in my run blog. I'm not running for at least a week but will work on strength training in my sore areas.
emoticon
This evening, I'm going to my ARC/Sea Dog Run Group so I can buy my new ASICS 3000-2 shoes & socialize with my run peeps! Many were at the runs on Saturday either running or volunteering. War stories will be shared!

I was doing well on exercise and HM training until Thursday, upon which it all went down hill. However, those days are behind me and I will start this week new and fresh- no regrets!

Last Wednesday I did my run at the running track that happens to be inside one of the local hockey rinks. Funny, that running inside a hockey rink is the better (aka warmer) option than running outside! We haven't had a lot of snow but I struggle running in anything below zero degrees. I see plenty of people doing it around here but I just can't rationalize that craziness!

Snow snow snow!

I have a bit of a cold, so today is a rest day. It works out well, since the snow is crazy today! It gives me a chance to get some tutoring work done, paperwork that I often procrastinate on doing.

Kathy- great job on the 6 miler! Reaching the next "mile"stone is always exhilarating!
The sun is shining here. My left arch is unhappy but I really think it's from the boots I wear to church and had to wear for several hours yesterday. :( They are not high heeled but my feet don't like them. Maybe awalk in the sunshine today. :)
Have a great day!

I pushed it yesterday, and made 6 miles - first time! I'm planning on a 10k in April, so I'm glad I reached 6 miles without too much walking. I've been taking it slow, and that helps.

Great weekend after posting a Half PR! Now it's time to go back to the classroom and review...
emoticon
I'm finding out how long recovery takes for me after a Half. Historically, it's taken 24 to 48 hours. I know this period will vary depending on the individual. I'm more interested in this past Half since I pushed myself a bit harder. I'm becoming best friends with "The Stick," & rolling my quads out. I'm also seeing where DOMS has surfaced. That will just give me areas to strengthen for the future. I know this will help me in the running future!

Doris- I hope you realize how blessed you are to have hubs walk with you. I would so LOVE that!
Kirsten- hang in there! These months will be gone before you know it. Hope you got in the yoga.. maybe that's tomorrow.
Trish- LOVE YOU!!! high 5 for my niece and another hug for Josh on his awesomeness!
Looks like lots of new faces here! HI,everyone. Lots of miles ya'll are racking up.
Carrie- way to get it done in the a.m.!! I aim for noonish at this time of year.
Nera- WAY TO GO on the minutes! I am happy for you!
I just finished a yoga for legs and back-that always feels nice. The baby is down... sort of. Don't know why but he fusses alot the first hour-two of going down. I have to go back and bounce and shush him. He isn't even awake! I don't know what to do so if ya'll have ideas... please share!
I ran a 5k yesterday in a few inches of new snow. My back was killing me last night but it's 100% today. :) The quads, on the other hand... they are feeling the love. I'm thinking some easy biking and Ttapp tomorrow and then back to a run on Tues. I might change that up if the weather continues to forecast snow Tues. I don't think we're going to get the big dump that is heading this way.
Have a great Monday!

Hi team. Just walking over the weekend. Walked with DH for a mile or two each day. He wanted to get outside while the weather was warm (meaning above freezing for once!)
Hope all have a great work week.....

Bobby, you must be feeling better!
Carrie, way to go on the consistency - !
Trish, your kids are so smart ;o)
Watson, Sam and Debbie, way to get out there!
Monty (going back a thread here) that's what it's all about, isn't it? More time with the people we love. Working in a surgical unit has given me a HUGE eye-opener about maintaining health with activity and healthy eating. No details will be shared, but let me just say that I really didn't understand what the potential complications could look like in real life. Oy!!!! People. Stay active!!!!
Trying to get prepped for a monster school day and *hoping* to fit in a yoga class this evening. fingers crossed.

Got in a great workout yesterday afternoon - upped the weights and I feel it today!

Headed out for a 3-4 miler this morning before church. The longer days is making it SO much more easy to schedule my workouts! I love getting them in early, and it's nice not having to wait until almost 8:00 to go for a run with the sun out.

I am a turtle runner, and have been running more regularly lately. I have been wogging (run 4 minutes, walk 2 minutes). Trying to improve my speed as well as my endurance. Saturday I ran the entire 5K at a speed that I haven't tried in 4 years. I am pretty happy!

Completed 2-Chicago Marathons, 4-Rock N Roll Half Marathons, 1-Monster Dash Half Marathon, 2-Soldier Field 10 Milers, 2-Shamrock Shuffles & multiple 5K & 10K races.

Hey all:)

Missy played for a higher tiered team today and scored a couple of goals - she is so stoked!!! Joshy and I did his running portion of his science fair project, and he did amazing:) He did tell me that he wants me to actually go to the gym that I have my membership at. Also he wants me to do more of what I love - running...guess my kidlets know when things aren't quite right.

Happy February everyone:):)

For the first time in a long time, I did my long run with my sweetheart this morning. He's tall and thin and naturally athletic. I was so proud to say that I was able to keep pace with him for the entirety of our 11.2 miles. Getting better all the time!

Some over time today but the good news is getting so this will be the exception instead of the rule. I did over 600 minutes of exercise in January. Not a lot for some people but I haven't done that much in probably a year.
