Got up early this morning, picked up Gianna and escorted her to school breakfast! Met her BFF & Daddy, shared breakfast together, and had a wonderful time. THIS is what living a healthy lifestyle is all about. I get years with my Baby Girl!

I want a "Girls on the Run" program in her school so bad! I am going to follow up on this!

Now, I'm getting ready to meet my Run Group Teammate and do packet pickup for the Best Damn Race Half in the morning! Life is awesome!

doris - i keep saying that too, maybe tomorrow. we have a heat wave on the way getting into the 30's...

kirsten- YES!!!!! i refused the dread mill, refused! i will spin instead.

monty- cool building your pc to your specs. have a great HM, rock it out!

sprouts- you never know when that pr comes. my 2 best 5k's came in opposite weather conditions one was in the evening 90's and humid 22:31 then the other was in the low teens so ice and windy, the last .5 mile was up hill turned in a 22:58 so the moral of the story don't push for the PR just let it happen. that is how i got my best races, you kinda just get the feel for it once the race starts, each time i did not know until i finished what my time was because i wasn't concerned about the PR.

been sick the last couple days no exercise, all in sinus area but getting better.

Hi! I've been keeping up on my exercise and healthy eating-just not getting in here much. I'm glad to see that ya'll are staying active.
Doris-boo on the foot!
Anne-good for you on cleaning out junk. I did a minor one today-rearranged the kids' plastic cups shelf and threw out old kids' tylenol and sippy lids and found batteries for the ear thermometer! THAT should keep everyone healthy. :)
I just came in from a terrible run. UGH! I didn't want to do anything today so I walked to the mailbox, smelled the fresh air and decided 2 miles would be a good one for today. I headed out once my sitter got off the bus (the other kids were playing outside) but I had eaten lunch less than an hour before heading out. BLECH! Heartburn and sore belly. :(Oh, well, 1.93 miles is better than zero
I have a 5k Saturday- 90% chance snow and near 30*!! I really wanted to PR but let's be real- the conditions might not allow that, so I am going to do my best. :)
Have a great day, Team!

I've been fueling well all week, hydration is good, legs feel good, and I'm doing a totally new course. Should be fun no matter what! The Best Damn Race is fast becoming one of the premier races in the Tampa Bay, and now Orlando!

Yesterday was SOOOO cold. I got around the block, went back into the house, put on more layers, and got in a short 2 miles. I keep thinking about how wonderful it's going to feel on the next "warm" day!

This morning is some strength training... gotta get it in before I start making excuses.

Is this January a Rookie Record for worst weather ever? It's brutal out there. I'm managing about one run a week on the treadmill (do you guys remember my treadmill view though? It's pretty awesome actually - I shouldn't complain). I've never been so busy with school Six courses crammed into three days and then two days of clinical. Ugh. I'm on a surgical unit, which is AWESOME, but it means so much more prep.

Hey, I'm impressed with all the activity you guys are getting into despite the weather. Trish, hugs hugs and more hugs. Doris, I hope hubby is all better soon and the back behaves. That's all my tired brain can remember and I wonder if I even remembered correctly.
Love you all!

Trish, I cannot imagine what you and the kids are going through. I think you are allowed to have bad days. Know that this team is here, in your corner, doing what we can to help you through this. Squishes and hugs to you, Josh and Missy.

Bobby, DH is doing great. His pain is managed with over-the-counter meds at night and nothing during the day. He has another 3-4 weeks in the sling, then the work begins with physical therapy. I can't wait for that........ He is out on leave from work until April so he has the time to heal. Phew.

No exercise today. I have been feeling blah the last few days and I just can't stand the thought of putting my foot into a shoe. I see the Dr tomorrow for it. Hopefully he will have some suggestions for a pain-free living for me:)

Happy Monday all

Day off today and I can't even go outside for a run emoticon (I know a lot of us can't). So 4.5 miles on the treadmill and 3 miles on the spin bike. I did a lot of clearing out drawers and cupboards yesterday so guess I might do that again today. There is plenty to do so I just need to choose what type of cleaning or paper work I will get done the rest of the day. Not good at sitting still at all.
Everyone have a good day and stay warm if you are in the same boat as us!
Trish-hugs honey. Hope you are feeling better today.

After a fairly busy weekend, I'm taking it easy. I'll do light run training just to keep loose. I have another Half on Saturday and I want to post a decent time. Clean fueling, hydration, and solid strength training will help!

Today was a true blizzard. Even the shopping mall closed early! We stayed inside all day. I was able to get 4miles in on the treadmill.
There was a natural gas pipe burst south of Winnepeg which is effecting us here in ND/MN. Energy co wants thermostats set 55-60. Temps overnight are supposed to be -45 with windchill! Nice!!
Stay warm everyone! Don't go stir crazy!

hey runners i am looking for feedback on the garmin 310 xt, my 305 is dying so i am in the market. any thought would be appreciated.

carrie- impressive, just too much snow here.

mb- i feel ya on the temps mon and tues are gonna be colds i probably will be in the basement again. 40 that would be a welcome change and i even like the snow..

doris- no shame there, winds are a killer. how is he doing with the shoulder? good progress?

another 10 miles on the spin bike today and looks like that is what i will be doing the next few days. i will NOT get on the dreadmill.
stay warm rookies

I am a wimp. It is about 8F outside and the wind is blowing about 30, decided to skip the run today and hang out inside.
Spent a night on the boat. DH had little trouble sleeping, he actually slept better than in the house! His shoulder did not hurt enough to even take pain killers:) But, back to the house we go as physical therapy is just over an hour away from the boat.......sigh

Like many I am dealing with weather issues. Snow last night and now strong winds and dropping temps. There is a blizzzard warning out for the western part of the state. The metro area won't have to worry about that as much since there are few open spaces for the wind to really blow around. But monday's commute to work will be no fun with -15 forecasted.

Now I am watching the PBR 15/15 bucking battle then off to the grocery store.

I will be going to the fitness center today after it warms up, but our temps for the next 2 days will be -15 to -4, and that is not windchill. BRRRR, that's cold. You may be getting it after us in Chicago, Anne. Stay warm.

Carrie, kudos to you, not letting the weather to stop you from getting out.

My last run outdoors was in 40 degree, sunny weather 3 weeks ago. I have been alternating treadmill and indoor track runs.

Bobby, great XT effort! That is the way to beat the blues when you cannot get outdoors.

Keep warm and active sparkies.

Brrr.... It's STILL cold in Western Pa. Wind chill well below zero! Guess I will ride the stationary bike today. Did the treadmill yesterday (really, really sick of the treadmill)! But am very glad I have a home gym to use right now because I don't really even want to go outside right now. My sister wants to go shopping (nearest mall is about an hour away) and I really am not into it. Hoping to just stay home today! Don't get many days off anymore!

Way to go Carrie on the outside run! You are a tough chick!

BECCA, I am an olympic junkie. I cannot wait for the ceremonies to begin, to hear the amazing stories about the athletes, and watch the events. The US is so concerned about safety, and the threats are real, but I expect it will go well.

Monty, I am glad to hear you and sis are hitting it off, on and off the pavement.

I am in week 5 of training for my 1st HM. I am excited. The last two weeks, I have been training indoors, on a treadmill or track. I was fortunate enough to train in Tucson for 2 weeks, and I took advantage every day I could.

It's balmy out today (30 above) but will be short lived with a blizzard set to hit tonight then back into the low temps till next Thursday. At least we have no big plans this weekend.
I need to do some meal planning, so it will be a good weekend to prep meals for next week.

I need to get in my exercise today. I did a Jillian Michaels workout video while Quentin was in his bouncer the other night. He certainly enjoyed watching her on TV!

Anyone looking forward to the winter Olympics? I hope it all goes smooth and everyone stays safe.

Good Morning, Team!
emoticon
Had a great Run Club 5K with a teammate I've never paced with before. I wanted to keep a steady pace in training for my next Half on Feb 1. Caught that pace and quite pleased I held it.

I'm volunteering & running in a local race tomorrow. The game plan is to have fun and use the 5K as a training run. Have I mentioned I love living here in Dunedin, FL? ( Paradise!)

Thanks for the info everyone. I was fitted years ago, but have since been using Shoe Dog to pick my shoes, because there aren't any good running shoe stores near where I live. Also, I've been wearing Brooks, because they are cut lower in the back - the other ones rub on Achilles tendon. I just wish I could wear the hot pink and lime green shoes instead of the black and red ones. emoticon

I ran with my run group tonight and it felt so good! I will do a PB at my next Half in ten days!

Kathy, saucony, asics and new balance, among others, have a wider toe box so they are quite comfie.....and available in hot pink!
No run today. I could not put my foot into a shoe. It is just too swollen and sore. Dang, I hate arthritis!
It is a bit, um, brisk here. Today the high was 9F. It was below zero this morning and really windy. Blech.

crossed- good deal, glad your recovery is going well. love the progress

kathy- go and get fitted for your shoes at a specialty running store, they will evaluate dyou and what you need. yes i buy 1/2 to 1 size up depending on the shoe, you should have the with of a thumb nail between your toe and end of shoe. hey my shoes are not ugly! lol

Kathy - for me, it depends on the brand. In ASICS I take a 1/2 size larger than my street shoe, but in Saucony I wear the same size. It is good to get fitted at a running store to get the best size.

Running Shoe Questions:

When you buy running shoes, do you buy 1/2 size up?

Women - do you ever buy men's running shoes?

When I worked at my last job, we had a gym and the director told me that there should not be more than 2 fingers width between your lace flaps. Women's shoes are usually too narrow for me, but men's shoes are just ugly (no offense ;o).

Good morning all!

Nera - if you decide to buy an island, count me in. I would love to be sitting on a warm beach somewhere right about now!

It's another cold day, it's also a run day. I am psyching myself up to get out there this afternoon when I get home from teaching. I'm even wearing my sports bra to teach so it's one less thing I have to do to get out the door!

Good evening all. Dang I been busy lately!! Well I had a pretty full weekend as far as activity is concerned. I'm pretty happy with how I'm bouncing back from my surgery two weeks ago. So far, so good. Last Saturday I met up with some of my friends that are training for a half marathon the end of March and decided to run with them on a local rail-trail. They did 2.5 miles and back for a total of 5. I did 2 miles out and back for 4. I jogged/walked and finished in just under an hour. I was pretty psyched that I only trailed the gang by a few minutes overall finishing.

Then, on Sunday I hooked up with a local fitness "Meetup" group and hiked 4 miles with them around one of the local wildlife sanctuaries. It was fun and I enjoy meeting the new people.

Then of course we got dumped on with some snow over the past couple days so I have had to do my workouts inside. I spun the bike on the trainer last night for 30 minutes at 85rpm easy, and then tonight did 2 easy miles on the treadmill, alternating jogging and walking again; but this time jogging longer than the walking segments!!!

I think I will either rest tomorrow or get back on the bike. I'm supposed to meet with my buddies again this Saturday and do the rail-trail run again. I'll probably turn this into a weekly run with those guys and make it my long-run day.

That's my story for the past week. Now to catch up on what you guys have been doing!! :-)

Okay just got off the exercise bike. I have been pretty good at getting in 35 minutes three times a week on either the bike or the treadmill. Baby steps but I haven't done any regular and consistent exercise in many months.

Trish good to hear that you are moving forward. I hope working out of your house is the answer you are looking for.

Me still working with health insurance but the state and the federal government are doing their level best to muck that up. Our state has now decided that they are going to take a 2% reduction in their payments and will go back to last April to redo all the past claims. Sigh!! I need to win the lottery and buy an island. The other day I ran across a show called island hunters. I didn't realize their were so many islands up for sale. LOL!!!

It was stinkin' cold here today so I rode the stationary bike and did strength training. My abs hurt:( That might be a good thing though. I told the physical therapist that I did not have 6-pak abs, instead, I had the whole keg:) Not really but my abs are sore now.
Trish, good about opening your own business, bad about Mom. Sending you hugs and squishes...... and chocolate blobs tossed at you from the hot tub.
Bobby, quitting smoking is hard! WTG:)
Becca, when do your kids usually get out of school? Around here, they get out at the end of June usually 9snow days) but don't start until after Labor Day.
Who else, ummmm kitties:)?

Hi everybody! 6 years huh Bobby? Yep...we are working on continuing our healthy journey! We will get those extra pounds off you (and my extra 15 too)! I am very proud of you for quitting that tobacco habit! I know how horribly difficult it was for you.

In other news...it's stinkin' cold out there. I guess it's another treadmill run for me today...ugh! Off I go!

Hello all!

Another frigid day. Today is a rest day so I can get a good run in tomorrow. But that doesn't mean I'm off the hook for activity - I have a volunteer shift at the shelter this morning. The kitties need me! And my class was cancelled tonight (the school is closed) so I might make it to yoga. We'll see.

Stay warm and safe!

Trisha and Bobby (and probably many others)- isn't this the great thing about SP, when we aren't at our peak we know there are others in similar shoes and others who can motivate us! I knew I couldn't go through this second weight loss journey alone! Thanks to everyone who motivates and encourages!

Short & sweet as it was a very busy day...Did a Half Marathon today with D & our cousin from Waverly, Nebraska as my Sis (LEC22041) did her second race ever, a 5 Miler! We all had a great experience. D & I both also learned something about our race as well! We ended a great day with family dinner!

Hi all!

So I ran this morning, and it was a really tough run. I don't know what it was, but I managed to get in about 2.75 miles. Went for a dress fitting this afternoon, and tomorrow I am spending the day with a friend who came to visit me!!!

becca- cool, training starts soon

doris- slug time is good time

kirsten- way to go!

monty- hit the PR on the flat track but isn't PR and PB the same? have fun tomorrow

5 mile run and 6 on the spin bike.

Now the good, it has been since april 2011, 33 months ago was the last time i did a training run of 5 miles or better, 33 months!! avg pace 11:24 so now i am starting to see one of the reasons my pace is slow. i'm really stoked to be running again i truly was not sure i would be able to do this and i understand that i am not back but this is progress, real progress.

Now the bad, i gave up chewing tobacco sept 2010 and went up to about 235 lbs (30lb gain) now i am 247, up 10 lbs in the last 3 months. (also explains why i am slow). John has seen me and knows i am big again but i am finally coming clean for the world to see

It will be like starting over with running and weight loss....

Thought I might be getting a cold but it seemed to have disappeared. Took it easy today but I still finished up W2D6 of the January Jumpstart.

I signed up for the Fargo 1/2 marathon in May. It was actually my deferment from 2013 that I couldn't run due to the pregnancy. I picked a training program and start that Feb 3. I am excited to start training for a race!

Tomorrow is Cole's first gymnastics meet of the year and Calvin is going ice fishing with the neighbor. Ugh- ice fishing makes me so nervous!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!

Hi all! Got one run in this week and did my first shift in this semester's clinical rotation - surgical this time. I'm sooooo rusty on my assessment skills :o( Guess what I'll be doing the rest of the day/evening!

We're taking it easy today, staying off our feet, eating clean fuel, and hydrating i8n prep for our Half tomorrow. I haven't decided whether to go for a Personal Best or take it easy. I do another Half in 2 weeks on a much flatter course. So, I could just do a PB and go for a PR next race. Whatever, I'm going to have a great time with family!

Hello all!

I am definitely dragging today. This week has been full of not enough sleep! It's going to be a busy weekend - two dress fittings (I'm a bridesmaid in two weddings this summer), a good friend coming to visit (hooray!) and lots of work for teaching. Phew! I have my running stuff packed for Sunday - I'll be at my mom's house, and there is great running around there.

Have a super day!

We are in a blizzard today. I decided to work from home which has been fabulous! All three boys are home but the two older ones decided to go sledding with the neighbors and Quentin has been so good. Hardly know he is here!

Sounds like lots of people are getting in some great amounts of exercise!

Hi all! After work had to take pup Mia to get her pedicure (which basically means nail trimming). She is not a good girl...all teeth and hissing/growling. The groomer doesn't even bat an eye. 5 minutes and she is done. I will let them do it..nope not me! After that was a 3.5 mile treadmill workout. I threw in about 6 inclines for a tenth of a mile each. Phew...I need to do that more often but prefer to run hills outside. Just couldn't get out there today. Bobby was spinning away on his spin bike at the same time. I had to share the TM with Bear a few times...darn dog loves to walk on the TM. We (Bobby and I..not Bear or Mia) did a stretching yoga dvd after.
Carrie-glad the interview went well. It's a shame the job won't work for now but you know what is best for you! Your such a busy girl!
Trish-hope that run is good tomorrow!
Becca-Yay for older brothers. My oldest was 6 when his middle brother was born and almost 9 when his youngest brother came along. He was a good baby watcher! In fact, he and his friends (who are now 32...sigh) say that they raised a very nice boy! Haha!
Okay...I need to go clean up my bedroom. I just don't have enough time in the day! How about you all?

Anne

Hello all!

My interview yesterday went really well. She really liked me. But the job hours don't mesh with the work I'm already doing, and I am committed to my music classes for the season and don't want to cancel them. Oh well. The bright side is that I don't have to fix up my car right away, and since it will need a new timing belt, I am thankful I don't have to shell out that money.

I am teaching an infant class tonight - I love the infant classes! And then it's off to the gym for some strength training.

Have a super night!

Carrie

I ran for 35 minutes on the TM last night.
It is so nice to have 2 older boys (13 and 9) at home that LOVE to watch their baby brother. A friend of mine who had a 3rd child a few years later than her first two, said the third was the "Family's baby" and I couldn't agree more for Quentin. I know his brothers will always be there for him and probably be over protective. Can you imagine if he had been a girl! YIKES!

MIRAGE727- hearing about your races makes me anxious to get back into action! Have a few months till it is racing season up here!
Trish- careful on that ice! Congrats to Missy!

Good Morning, Y'all!

I'm very excited today! My sister (LEC22041) is flying in for the week. Our cousins and family will come into town on Friday! We're doing the Clearwater Halfathon and my sis is doing the 5 Miler. (Her second official race since we did the Jingle Bell 5K in Dec. I'm so proud.)

D & I will also share with Linnie how we worked SparkPeople effectively into our lives. This will be a very positive week!

Hey everyone!
Just a quick spot in...wanting a spot in the naughty mansion for a massage...whose available???? The weekend was super full with Missy's ringette tournament, had a great time, and Missy landed in the top 10 points for the tourney - so proud of her.

Tomorrow I am doing a longish wog, should be fun as it is on a route that isn't slick ice (like the one I tried to do yesterday).

Hope you are all have a fantastic week:):)

Haha Becca...you are entertaining him! About the TM...if you are put off by not wanting to go to the garage then you should think about bringing it in the house somewhere that you can walk/run while Quentin can watch from his bouncer! I find that I need to make it easy as possible so I don't have any excuses!
Doris-make sure we get to see that pottery when it's finished.
Kirsten-sorry the foot/feet still feel weird. You had quite the fall. I had that issue with the so called stress fracture/arthritis issue and 2 years later I still feel that owie area a lot.
Nera-never watched the Bachelor but I have to admit I do love some strange shows. I love Say yes to the dress and Top Chef. House Hunters too. What the heck...I hardly have time to breathe with work and stuff but I love watching those on Saturday morning before I head out for my runs!
Today I am hopping on the spin bike and then doing a dvd workout for the January Jump Start Challenge.
Later Rookies!
