wow i just went back to the october thread from 2009 it is funny how many of us are still hanging around here, pretty awesome. also sad to see so many we are missing jules, beth, aderian, kim, mel just to name a few.... we were averaging almost 1000 post per month in the main thread.
maybe we need to track some down and invite them back...

I made it to the gym this morning, and I'm off to visit a good friend today. It's going to be a great day!

Hi all!

Today was a busy day - volunteered at the shelter, did some laundry, got some clothes ready for the thrift store, studied for my GREs, and went grocery shopping. Phew! Time for some reading and relaxing. I'm headed up to my mom's house tomorrow; I'm having lunch with a former colleague (I can't wait!!!!) and going out to dinner with my mom so she doesn't have to deal with the ridiculous number of Trick-or-Treaters that come to her door.

Trish I hope you can be with your Mom until the end. Big hugs coming your way..

I understand about being screamed at by people who don't like or understand what their insurance pays for. People never yell at the right people. Call your insurance and yell at them. They are the ones that decided what the plan covers.

So gloomy here and very damp. Good night to sit on the couch and watch Pride and Prejudice. I have seen it like 5 times but love watching it and seeing the period clothes.

Ever have one of those days where you wish you just do it over? Today was one of them. Started off being really cold inside the boat (DH turned down the heaters), then at work people just yelled at me pretty much all day. It is not my fault that they have no/poor insurance so why is it they scream at me?? Almost just walked out today. If tomorrow is no better, I think I just will leave.
OK, whining done. No run today but tomorrow am a run is planned. It will be marvelous!

Hey everyone!
Today was interesting....took Josh to physio for his pulled groin...I'm not sure he is going to be pleased with where the ultrasound has to go!!! LOL:) Mom has been sedated a lot more, as she tried to get out of bed several times. We were told today that her kidneys will fail within a few days.

Tomorrow I am heading to Penticton, my friends will watch my kidlets until I come back. I pray I have the strength to hold my Mom's hand as she passes...

2 weeks until I get to run again!!! Looking to 2014 Victoria marathon as my goal moving forward:):)

Hugs and love,
Trish

Way to go Wood on rocking that race.

Trish nice to see you again.

I cleaned up my sewing room yesterday and ended using scraps to put another quilt together. Made a coworker very happy.

I sat on the exercise bike and actually pedalled for 25 minutes. Getting off always hurts because that is when I notice that my butt hurts. LOL!!! Just trying to get things going again. I have a physical on the 5th and that weigh in at the beginning of the appointment is going to be way painful.

Hello all!

It was easy to get out and run this morning - I thought of my friends doing the Marine Corps Marathon! It also doesn't hurt that morning is prime pup-watching time.

Hey all,
I'm so sorry I have been AWOL!! I am working on getting back! My super good looking physio is talking about 3 more weeks until I can start to run...oy,

Miss and Josh have been crazy busy, which means so have I!! Missy is trying out for BC Winter Games for Ringette, and the Tier 1 team for soccer this and next weekend, and we also have our ringette tourney (Monkey is playing goal for 2 teams). I am also a Scout leader at the "Halloween Howl", so spent all day (after Missy's tryouts) at the camp.

Can't read back, so tired!! Monkey has 3 games tomorrow, and has to be at the rink in 8 hours...then plays all of his games in less than 5 hours. Miss plays tryouts for both teams starting at 9:00...

Hugs and love to you guys!!!

Trish

DH and I went out for dinner. OK, a burger and fries may not have been the healthiest choice but it sure was yummy. We walked about 45 minutes afterward to make up for it.....

Okay, are you ready for this? Did my "comeback race" this morning - "The Boo Run Run". It was 30 degrees and the course was hilly. Not only did I finish, I got 2nd place in my age division!!!! Seems that most of us seniors are pretty slow, lol! It felt great! Now I feel like I can be a Rookie Runner again and hold my head up high!

Hi all. Did a city run today. OK, it is considered a city by NH standards but there are about 30,000 people in the winter. For us, coming from a small town of just under 4000, its HUGE! Found a plumbing fixture store that had some nice looking faucets. Weird to see faucets and like them. Then, grocery shopping and looking at a pottery studio. I did not like the studio. Its out of the way so probably not too many customers at the gallery for buying my pots!

I was able to get on the bike for 65 minutes and get some ST-ing done today.
I can bend my foot for a running position but I can't wear anything with straps on the top (such as flip flops, sneakers were fine.) So tomorrow I'm going to give a short run a try. I was suppose to do 18 miles but I think that would be pushing it. Unless of course, its absolutely pain free.

Well, I am not really ROCKing my runs lately due to my leg injuries (both legs), and I think I also pinched my glutes because my butt hurts, emoticon but I did go running last night and managed a 2.29 mile run.
Actually, everything stopped hurting during the run...Not sure how to interpret that?!!
However, I am extremely happy with my run and finished off with the goofiest smile on my face. A smile of achievement!
Happy Thursday Runners! Keep up the good work.

Hello all!

Last night was our first tenant issue. I get very worked up fairly easily, so I had an awful night's sleep thinking about how I was going to deal with the heater situation. But after I talked to hubs and figured out step by step what I needed to do, I was ok. Sheesh.

I have my running gear on for later; I don't want to go out until I know this problem is taken care of. Another exciting day!

Bobby & Anne:

Thanks for the feedback. I bought really nice pedometers when we had a challenge at work, and washed both of them - they were NOT waterproof LOL.

I may the Spark Activity Tracker, it's cheaper than the Garmin, and I can use it along with the "map your route" option in the fitness tracker.

Strength training and a short burst of spin cycling tonight. Wednesdays are an early (well..earlier than the normal 4:30 a.m. wake up) day so it seems like breakfast at 5 ish, lunch at 10 ish then we try to hold off dinner until 4-5 but you are about starving by then. Now I am about ready for bed. Shees...this whole working thing sucks..need to hit the lottery emoticon
kms-Bobby and I decided we wanted to try the spark tracker because we walk so much at work. (Self employed). I knew it was probably something I needed to figure into my calorie counting because of the mileage we put on during the day without counting in our running and biking. Needed something that would work indoors as Bobby said. So far I am liking it. Add to that it has a tendency to make you want to light up all those little lights and Bobby and I are a bit competitive with each other!

suezette - take care and keep an eye on that, you don't want to injure it more if something is wrong.

kms-
once calibrated i found the mileage to be pretty accurate for running and walking. not real accurate for cycling mileage but good for steps( i think it counts your revolutions to give you a step count)
it is nice since you can wear indoors to track you activity
small and easy to use,
water proof & temp ratings -4 to 100( i think)
battery life expected to be between 6-12 months depending on use
so far i really like it, took a week or so to figure it out and best uses but once that was done it works well. for the price i think it is a nice investment, it is no a GPS unit and not a body bug but you don't pay the price either. give it a 7.5 of 10.

I didn't get to run today.
Last night, I dropped a 35 pound bucket of cat litter on my foot. Yeah, it's all cut up, swollen and bruised. But I can move my toes so I don't think it's broken. Just pretty sore to walk on.

Hi everyone! Feeling SO much better lately. Had a hilly 3 mile run yesterday and a nice easy 4 today. Was going to run tomorrow and strength train today but tomorrow they are calling for cold. Now I don't mind running in the cold but the cold rain...no thanks.
KMS-keep up with the hills. It will make you a stronger runner. You don't have to run the whole thing just run a bit and build your way up to longer climbs each time. You can do it! It makes the flats feel so easy!
Hi ya Mike! Great job on C25K!
Can't remember anything else.
Gotta go..laundry is calling my name.

Less than 2 weeks until the 5k run with my dog. I didn't get to run on vacation, but I ran when I got home and again on Sunday. The hills are killing me! I'm good on the flat road, but ugh the hills - I end up walking most of the way. I'm hoping the trail for the race is mostly flat emoticon

Mike, I love the name too.
Bobby, it is good to get out and just do it, knowing it will be OK.
Today, no exercise........pottery, lawn mowing, dealing with the cable company, and then laundry. I wonder how the cable company can possibly make money when they have such incompetent bumbling nincompoops working for them. How many times to I have to call them and use the "live internet chat" before they finally get our mailing address correct? I have yet to receive a bill from them. When I call, they tell me to sign up for electronic bill pay. Need the account number to do that and I need a bill to get my account number as they will not give it to me over the phone. Sheesh.
Tomorrow, a run. Then off to the arthritis Dr then work.

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Hello all!

Another exciting day... I teach this morning, and this afternoon there is a special event at Macy's with the Wanamaker Organ. There is a showing of the silent movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and an organist will play the soundtrack! Should be fun.

I walked on the treadmill tonight for a whole 30 minutes. I really can't remember the last time I used my treadmill. Not much else going on here. Hubby is sleeping and I am just vegging out watching What not to Wear.

I have done a little barefoot walking and running on the treadmill last year. I stopped because I have a foot with a very high arch and just was so worried I was going to wreck my foot.

Nice weather today but rain and cold for pretty much the rest of the week. In fact might see a random flake or two over the weekend. Oh boy!!!

Hi all! Haven't been on the computer much lately due to some flare ups with my health. But feeling a bit better today. Got in a 3 mile run and some strength training. I will say that when my health isn't at it's best (due to a nervous system disorder I have) that those days when I feel almost normal are awesome!
Carrie-I love hearing about your city life! I would love to move to the city (Pittsburgh) but Bobbyd would not have it! He is a country boy!
Doris-you have made my hubby miss his boating days. Sounds lovely.
Nera-no barefoot running for me! Too many issues with my bone spurs in my heels.
Monty-sorry to hear your mom is not well.
Getting ready to head to bed soon. Early morning for work here.

Anne

Ran this morning, got some stuff done around the house, and I'm off to an author event tonight that is totally up my alley - Children's Literature and Social Justice. I love the city.

I have watched some videos on barefoot running. Proponets say that it allows the body to move more naturally and let's the foot hit the way nature intended. That said I still think hitting a rock would hurt like heck.

Carrie - hi!!! Three cheers for another fantastic day :)

Ran 7 miles today, took a minute off last weeks time AND didn't get sick!!! Had sport beans on the run and some milk and pretzels when I got home, no Gatorade this time! No barfin either :) Triple yay!
And I only looked at my new bling three or four times on the run... I'm getting hitched!!!! YAY!!!

HI!!! There are some of you that I do not know but WELCOME! I've been here over 4 yrs now and this group is the reason that I am in love with running and still going strong. I've run through the last 2 pregnancies so I stay lean and healthy and strong.
I am going to run today after my sitters get their schoolwork done AND after I get little guy to sleep. Probably will do a sprint intervals for fat burning. The weather is gorgeous! I have been working on transitioning to barefoot or NEAR barefoot so I walk barefoot in the grass after my runs or during my walks. Last night I wore ballet style house slippers out to keep my feet warm while I walked in the condo drives behind our house. 3.3 miles nearly naked footed! It feels great! I have a difficult time wearing my heels to church now, though. :( Guess I will have to buy flats for dress up time.
Bobby- so glad you got out for that run.
Carrie- WOW! a real head stand?!! That is incredible! Great job!
Dani- a box of mac and cheese or "some"?? I always have to eat a bite or 2 of kids' when I make it. :(
Mirage- hope your mother gets well. Hang in there and safe travels.
Everyone else: have a great day and run safe!

Our boat is a 36 foot catamaran. Both hulls are the same, a "bedroom" with a queen sized bed and a closet, a hall way with more closet and a full bath. The main living area is about 110 square feet. First its the kitchen, then the living room:) We have a large cock pit that is covered so its usable in most weather and the front has the trampoline/safety net for napping:)
No exercise today as I feel under the weather. Blech. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

This morning I got up, and went to my Running Club's Miles for Mimosas! Had a great run then we went to breakfast.
I had to stope at American Running Company for Pretty in Pink Packet Pickup. Hung out for a while watching the Kona Ironman! Totally awesome!
Came home, watched Nebraska beat Purdue, then D & I went to meet friends in Clearwater Beach for dinner. Took photos of a beautiful sunset, then came home to lay out my clothes for tomorrow's race....and paint my nails!

So, I am changing my work schedule again. I am going to work only 2 days a week with the occasional 3rd. I can't wait! The boss man says Tuesday/Wed or Wed/ Thurs will be the 2 days. Woo Hoo!! I will stay on the boat during the winter on for the first night so i don't have to drive as far to/from work. DH and I plan on staying on the boat for at least one week in the dead of winter to see how cold or warm it is. If is tolerable, we will officially live year-round on the boat. happy rest of the weekend all

Dani, yep, I live on a sailboat. We try to get out sailing any chance we get. My DH and I live on board with our cat. Yes, the cat loves to sail too:)
No exercise today but I cleaned the entire boat. Nothing like working up a sweat mopping, vacuuming and dusting.

Good Morning, Y'all!

Woke up to a chilly 69 degrees! Our high will be 84 sunny today!

Had a good speed run followed by a great get-together with Running Club last night. Funny, after our run, we went to a BBQ smokehouse! I had a side of Gouda Mac n Cheese!
emoticon
I'll chill today and do a light run tomorrow for conditioning. My run partner has decided not to do the 15K due to shin splints that have been bothering her. I decided to kick back and just do the 5K on Sunday. I'm cool with that.

Enjoy the day!

Judi, it was an out-of-body experience, I was supposed to have chicken and veg (yum...) and somehow ended up watching myself eat a whole box of Mac as I drove to my night class! Oops!

Wood, I'm with you 8 min miles come only in my dreams. I'm soooo happy with anything under 12. :)

Did I read about a bike living on a boat???? Does one of our runners live on a boat???? Am I drreaming? That sounds AMAZING!!!!

Carrie nice yoga girl, I miss yoga bad!

5 mile speed work with my friend last night, she kills me!!! We did 4.62 miles in 50 min and when I do the same workout alone I can only get 4.36. Either way, it helped that accidental bagel disappear!

Happy Thursday, weekend is almost here!!!!

I thank you gents for the shorts, gel seat advice. My bike is one gear and rather small. It folds up and fits into a storage locker on the boat. I think I will investigate a gel seat though as I do like to ride around and explore new areas.

Yeah Cassie, my early morning runs are getting later and later. I no longer run before the sun rises! Don't have to anymore being retired.

and Bobby, I agree I can only dream of 8 min./ mile paces. I did a 3.5 miles this morning at a 11 minute pace and I was happy with that!

Doris - Better check out some gel seats. I put on a LOT of bike miles and stay pretty comfortable.

Carrie - PhD! Wow! You rock girl!

Cassie - Have I told you how much I've missed you?! Somehow I doubt that you ever really experience a lazy day!

Life is good!

Bobby, I saw your post, and was going to ask you how you got the Spark button. When you asked me how I got mine, I had to roll back down and look - yes, there was one on my post. I guess they put them there for folks who have bought them.

FYI - I am loving my Spark tracker!

Ran three this morning, after a spin bike of 9.3 miles. Love the fall air, but not so much the starting and finishing the early morning runs in the dark. I'm not even getting a sunrise anymore.

Now, I just need to figure out how one "accidentally" eats Mac and Cheese.

Dani - Does mac and cheese qualify for carbo loading? emoticon

Doris - Riding is a great XT option. I think you need a new seat on your bike! I can ride twice as many miles on a bike than running.

Bobby - nice pace going. I could only dream of 8 min mi! emoticon

Jeff Galloway Tweeted Stress+Rest = Improvement!

Always a good reminder. I took a second rest day after putting in too many miles for these beginner legs. I was feeling it, mostly tightness in quads which is new for me. I had no realized that I did 32 miles last week when 25 was my max, and 20 is more my comfort level.

Today I am off to the track for a threshold run 2 X 15 mins plus a 3 min 10K pace, and I will not be publishing that today. emoticon

Had a strong interval training session with my run partner last night!

She's had a change in plans so I'm doing the 5K this Sunday! I'm cool with it. The fact that I'll be "dressing up" for the Pretty in Pink makes sense that I just do the shorter distance.

I'm still training smart as my run calendar for the rest of 2013 is pretty full!
And I thought I was going to slow down! Whatever!

I'm also trying to figure out how I have another 3 Halfs inside 90 days again!

Today, a 3 mile run. It felt marvelous:) My legs are still a little tired from Sunday but otherwise, a good run.

I have 4 5k's under my belt, and one coming up that I've running with my dog - we've been training together all summer emoticon .
I was going to try a 10k, but I haven't run 5 miles yet. So, there is a Turkey Trot emoticon on Thanksgiving morning that is a 5 miler - I'm going to sign up for that one. It's a fairly level course, so even if I have to walk at the end, I will at least finish. Then I can set my goal for 2014 to get in a few 10k's.
