Trish big hug for you. I would tell someone what is going on better than holding it in. For me at least things can pop in a bad way if I try to hold stuff in.

Anne sorry you brought home the wrong kind of souvenir. I hope things get taken care of soon.

Hi everyone! Saturday and I am putting off my long run tomorrow morning. Bobby and I are heading out to a wine festival later this morning with Lynn (LYNNANN43) and her hubby and I slept for over 10 hours last night. Could have fit in 5 or 6 miles but would have rushed me. I am scheduled for 8 but we will see what tomorrow brings. Add to that I think I may have brought some "friends" home with me from Mexico (I will not elaborate) so I am not feeling great and must do a 3 day specimen test (again...I will not elaborate). Ugh...so gross thinking I might have parasites!!!!
So tomorrow is the run! Hope to feel well enough to enjoy the wine festival today and then tomorrow after a few hours at work we are heading out to dinner with friends to celebrate birthdays (hers and mine). Just wish my body would be feeling better. Oh well...I will not let it get me down!
Penny-good job on listening to the rest day! Enjoy that bike ride!
Doris-hope your MIL is ok. I so wish I didn't work on the weekend but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right?
Later runners!

The calendar said "rest" so I did. And then the family went for a walk after dinner. Paul, Roo & I took Hughy for an almost 4 km walk. Roo fell asleep in her wagon. Now I'm doing some quick sparking and then I'm off to bed. I'm going for another bike ride in the morning. emoticon

So, just work again today. I planned on a morning run but had to take DH to get a rental car so he could drive to West Virginia as his Mom is in the hospital. We don't think its anything major, but, you never know. Guess its OK that I am working all weekend. Sigh.

Uh, What's the weather like in P-burgh during the JASR? A Floridian wants to know! I'd fly up there just to go to Primanti Bros! We do have 2 of them, 5 hours south in Ft Lauderdale
emoticon
After my Tuesday night Run Club, I felt a bit tight in my hamstrings and calves. I believe it's because I'm not there yet as far as being 100% after my illness. I might have been pressing it.
At last night's run group, not only did I break in my new shoes but I did my first mile of my 5K too fast. I broke into an interval to hold myself back as I was having a hard time keeping a slower pace. I tried to focus on good run form. I did notice my hamstrings again so I backed off. I'm glad I was listening to my body.
I'm doing a 5K tomorrow night, and will treat it like a training run. This is a good lesson in discipline for me.

Good morning all,

Trish - sometimes it's nice to have someone else know out there know how you are feeling... for support.

Today I have some Very Important Meetings with my internship supervisor. One of the great things about doing this internship in a big city is that I get to meet and mingle with some pretty important people!

Hey everyone!

Got unsubscribed...sorry:(:(

Saturday is my Anniversary, pretty much in a mess now, hoping it feels better when I get there. Will be at Family Camp at that time - one of the families were the ones that worked at the hospital, and came to support me when Don passed....wondering if I should warn them in advance, or just kinda leave it.

No workouts...my doc has told me to do NOTHING because the swelling and bruising is still reminiscent of a 3rd degree sprain, and I am already almost 3 weeks out.

Hugs and love,
Trish

Nera, a friend of my ex-husband's parents made us a quilt for our wedding gift. That was in 1995. We separated in 2000.... I took the quilt. He knew better than to try and thwart my efforts. Handmade gifts, let me rephrase and hopefully I don't offend my children LOL, *useful* handmade gifts are better than any store bought item. IMHO anyway.

Nera, I would much rather have a hand crafted quilt than a gift money could buy. You are making the quilt with your own hands so its like you are giving a piece of you and a piece of comfort. Newleyweds better like it!! I would:)
No run today. Worked a nine hour shift and then, just too darned pooped. I don't like running in the dark even though there are sidewalks here. Maybe one day I will brave the sidewalks in the dark. For some reason, I prefer to run on the shoulder of the road in the dark. I know its probably safer on the sidewalk but I have only lived where there are these walking areas since the end of May!

Happy running Rooks:)

Had a quality lunch date with D in Tampa, Ybor City area. Then I went to a running store downtown I had never been to before.
Scored some ASICS Gel Noosa Tri6 shoes for a ridiculous price. They were in my size, fit great, and I wanted to use these for rotation and to use in Triathlons without socks. I walked around with them all afternoon and they felt great! I also got some ASICS running shorts at another sick low price! The icing here were the 4 rear pockets for gels & a zipper pocket! Pockets goood!

Hellooooooooooooooooo! Remember me!! OH emoticon I had hoped you would! Oh well, communicating as a total stranger never stopped me before emoticon

Carrie, I'm glad I don't live at your house! I can just read your posts about food and get hungry!! emoticon

Annie, I already wished ya a happy Bday.. you just can't stand it that I'm 55 & are a deejy wannabe, huh? I knew it!! 55s the new 55 ya know.. we're defining it!! emoticon

And Christy girl... you'll get your mojo back.. you ALWAYS do :) soooo good to see you! I was just thinkin' about you yesterday & wondering how you were doing. Hang in there kiddo, you've got this! emoticon

AnnieTheMomOfAngels... you never cease to amaze.. They're using ipads in our local schools as well... there's a "rant" line on Fridays on one of our local news stations and many were complaining about it but I told Jay they'd just as well accept it... with technology, we're not going to be moving backwards and when you think about it.. the majority of our teachers will very soon be part of that techno generation. Books will soon be archaic and I agree, that's sad! Something about curling up with a good book that's special emoticon emoticon

I won't even attempt to read down the page beyond my skim or pretend I'm caught up but I do hope everyone's doing well.. been a hundred years and then some since I've been here.

AFM,Transferred my Iron Horse 1/2 bib to another runner today; too close to MCM to risk it (2 weeks before) & given my injury history.. playing on the side of "safe" & trying to keep the big picture in mind which = 26.2 healthy miles on Oct 27th :) oh yeah.. did I mention that I'm hoping to run my 1st Marathon Oct 27th?? emoticon

HOT HOT HOT in my neck of the woods too... went in late to work (w/ permission) & ran my hill repeats at sunrise... was already beyond mid 70s & humidity & heat index were sky high! I survived but came home soaked! emoticon

Y'all take care now, ya hear? I'll try not to be such a stranger but golly life is BIZZY! I do manage to post occasionally on FB but with family obligations, even that's hard!

STAY WELL and RUN STRONG! emoticon emoticon

Yes, Bobby, location is everything. Living in Paradise (Dunedin, FL) does have it's perks & is a target rich environment. Year round Runs, Duathlons, & Tris rule!

This morning I visited a local fitness center of which the owner is a world class Duathlete & Triathlete! ( I also know her!) I want a bit more formal Tri training and value my resources. Why would I not choose to have a champion in the field for guidance? More to come...

Hi all! After spending the summer doing too much working, not enough running, too much eating and too much drinking beer I've decided it's time to get back on track. So, to my trusty friends on Spark I turn. Hoping to be more active in here and out on the pavement.

Hi all. Saw the rheumatologist today. She ordered a bunch of blood tests and some more x-rays. Also gave me a weeks worth of Celebrex to see that helps my narly feet. At this point, I would learn to stand on my head and drink milk through a straw if it would make my feet and hands stop hurting!

Bobby - To make a long story short, did the Top Gun Tri on July 27, developed a severe sinus infection on Aug 2, spent the next week fighting 102-104 temps and dropping 11 pounds, first script didn't work, second with steroids did, started to get appetite back on Aug 16 then wogged a 5K on Aug 18,started walk/jog training on Aug 20 & 22. No swim training, no bike training, no doing Open Water in the Gulf! Better safe than sorry. I'm starting light bike training in the next couple of days. I have several races scattered in the next two months, all training for the TrRock Clearwater Triathlon on Nov 10.

Hi all! Great birthday yesterday. Bobby put up signs in the yard announcing I was 55. Thank you very much honey! Don't care...I am still better than ever emoticon I did manage to glutenize myself at brunch with my sisters. I usually can eat a bit of wheat without a problem but I ate a lot of gluten (Kentucky Derby Pie). By the time I arrived home I knew the night was going to be a rough one...and it was. Still having intestinal issues today and it will probably go on for days. *sigh* When will I learn??
Doris-nope, don't feel any older or different, just bloated... emoticon (sorry..couldn't resist)!
Anne/Cheaper-now I know why your posts are in caps! Didn't realize it was Liam. I just thought you were yelling! Haha.
Off to use the heating pad on my intestines...ugh!

Looks like everyone had a great weekend. Ours was 'meh'... nothing exciting. I ran 5 miles on Saturday (and fell) and walked about 3/4 of a mile in laws' back 'field' after dinner there yesterday. I was trying to get Liam to sleep... didn't work. But, he did fall asleep an hour earlier than usual for bedtime. :) and today he is napping hence the lack of cap locks here while I type! LOL!! I ran 4 miles today again. Makes me happy.
Today is iPad pickup for high schoolers. Any other parents out there that have schools using these? They will be cutting out text books. I am torn about it. I can see where they are coming from but there is something about a book. And our grandkids won't even know what they are!
Judi- I'm planning on using these next 2 months to learn a bit about football. I have never been interested nor do I understand it. Hopefully, JP will at least be dressed for the game. His foot is less swelled today and he said it isn't that sore. I am making him use the crutches thru today and we'll see what tomorrow brings. :)
Tomorrow I am starting school here whether the kids like or not. LOL! (guaranteed they will not).
Nera-YAY! on the walk!! it is humid here again today. I like the heat but not so much the humidity.
Great job on ALL OF YOU getting out there and doing something, anything!!! It feels so good to move!

Good morning all!

Bobby - I was so excited when my brother asked me to take the pictures. I love that I'm going to play such a big part in their plans!

Brunch was SOOO good yesterday. I had french toast with chocolate chip cookie dough in the middle and some thick-cut bacon. And a delicious melon mimosa. Everyone really loved their meals.

Yesterday was such a wonderful day. I got to relax, spend time with hubs, and enjoy the sun.

Make it a good one!

I went for a walk this morning. Then I did some running. I didn't care about speed, distance or anything just ran. Felt good but it is very hot and muggy here and will be for the next week so not sure when I will get out again.

Bobby, I clicked on your link and saw a whole new product that I didn't even know existed out there.

John, I haven't heard of anyone doing Chicago either. Perhaps start a new thread with that in the title. Hopefully you'll get a hit.

Penny, I'm glad you are planning your next ride already. I sure wish I lived closer.

Carrie, enjoy that brunch - its always such a good meal to share with friends.

We had a great supper with our friends last night. It was so good to catch up with them and hear about their trip. And I got to relive my Alaska trip for them again. We decided last night that the four of us could travel very easily together, with our likes and dislikes. We haven't done a trip with them yet.

Going out for a ride today, and will work in the garden some more. Have a great day guys!

Good morning all,

Another beautiful day. Hubs and I are going to brunch with some friends - there is no shortage of places for a good brunch in the city!

This week I'm going to be reading up on portrait photography and lighting- my brother asked me to take his engagement pictures! I'm so excited.

Have a super day!

Penny - wow 60k bike ride

everyone seems to be doing alot of bike riding, I haven't been riding my bike enough I can't seem to get comfortable after 1hr i want to stop. Something about summer that makes us more active. I've been running more lately, and I started swimming. I did 1 hour of weight training today. I guess I'm trying to kick myself in the butt to get in shape for Chicago (Oct 13)

Does anyone know which Spark friends are in Chicago or running it this year? it would be nice to meet-up at some point

Oh my GAWD! I'm so glad I'm in good shape from running. We did 60 Kms on the bikes today and, although my precious parts may never forgive me, I'm more or less fine. Actually start planning next weeks ride as we were leaving. Need bike shorts though. And maybe gloves. I have callouses and I do NOT like those. My hands look bad enough from MMA.

Bobby I'd bow down to you but I may not get back up.

KMS - great job on that run, and enjoy a well-earned rest day.

Carrie - c'mon....you know ya wanna!

Anne - happy birthday tomorrow. Double nickels isn't old (cause I'm not far off). Have a great day tomorrow.

Bobby, I love how you definition of flat includes a +1000 elevation. LOL, I know, you live in a hilly area! I live on the prairie, so flat means flat!

I did a whirlwind of housework this morning before it got too hot, including windows washed inside and out. Then I took off for a few Geocache finds and some groceries. Now our football team is about to start playing, so my butt is now on the couch. We are heading out for supper with friends and I can hardly wait to se them again. They took off for two months camping through the Dakotas and Montana, and are just getting back. I love that area, and can hardly wait to see her 851 pictures!

7 mile run this morning. What a weird run! The run itself went smoothly enough but there were so many distracting, yet funny and nice stops. 1st and 2nd stops were chats with people I knew, 3rd was to make sure a very large mastiff dog didn't eat me (her owner assured me she would stay in her electric fencing..yikes!), 4th was being stopped as I passed a yard sale by one of the kids handing me a cold water bottle. I told him that I had water in my car and his mom said "All runners get cold water today...free of charge". Here it turns out the boy is leaving for college at University of Oregon..the boy is a runner. How absolutely cool!
Judi-today is a couple of hours at work then cleaning the house, laundry, you know all the normal stuff. (along with my run..of course). And then tomorrow my sisters, DIL, nieces are taking me out to lunch for my birthday. Ugh...I will be double nickels tomorrow emoticon so for today...I am 54....
I AM NOT OLD... I AM NOT OLD!!!

Good morning all!

Bobby - I don't have a good reason why I'm not running. Just that it fell out of my routine and I'm having a hard time fitting it in again. I am going to cut back on my internship hours and see if I can get some energy back to do some running.

Today is the day to get some stuff done around the house. I have a busy next few weeks coming up!

Lisa, great job on hitting that five mile mark. I'm sorry you hurt your back, and hope that goes away soon.

John, enjoy your paddle. We like it so much, that we bought a second kayak this year so hubby and I could go together. Such a nice, peaceful activity.

Doris, that's a lot of hours. Are you back teaching? Or what kind of work are you doing?

Monty - I'm happy to hear you are running again. Great job on sticking it out in the rain.

Bobby, I know what you mean about driving for swimming. Our closest pool is an hour away, and lane swim starts at 5 or 9:30. I work til five, and driving home an hour after a 9:30 swim is not appealing either.

Anne, you had a great workout today. Are you doing anything fun this weekend (I know Bobby's biking)?

Sprouts, I sure do love football. That is one of the sports I really miss now that my boys aren't playing anymore.

I'm currently not running, and giving my shins a bit of a rest. A couple of faster runs on older shoes, and I am dealing with a flare up. I ordered new shoes, and their ETA is Tuesday, so I think I'll rest the legs til then. I have a half marathon in a couple of weeks, so don't want to push and injure before that.

As Bobby said...we swam laps, rode bikes and then I walked 1 mile. Tomorrow is my longer run (7 miles) but we will see how my legs feel after today. I am trying to swim so that I can use it as another exercise just in case my joints become to aggravated with running. So far so good.
Helene-how are you doing on your workouts? I have tracked every day this week. Yay! I am trying!
I also spent about an hour deleting foods from my favorites list. Since having to eat gluten free I don't need half of what was in my favorites group. Gosh...that seemed to take forever!
Have a great one all!

Did two miles last night with my Dunedin Running Group! My pace was a bit faster than I should have gone but the last 3/4s of a mile was in a drizzle. (Not like the downpour I got caught in Tuesday.) I'll embrace recovery today with a little strength training.

I'm bittersweet about not doing my scheduled Triathlon tomorrow. I have a lot of friends doing it. I am happy that D & I are volunteering at the Tri and supporting. I'll also be observing and learning visually. Positive waves!

Good morning all!

I haven't been running in AGES but I have been moving boxes for about 8 hours a day for a few weeks (part of my internship). I think that counts for something!
Now that my near-future is kind of planned for a little bit, I can get back to doing what I love and not have to worry so much about "other" stuff. The house is rented out (she moves in on the 30th), I start my new job in September, and I am working on grad school applications for my doctorate. Life is good.

Didn't run today but I *did* walk up to A&W to grab myself a Teen Burger. Unfortunately, I'll be working to burn it, and the rings and the root beer, off for days to come. 1330 calories!! Ugh.
Tonight's cross-training at the MMA boot camp.

Lisa, glad to hear you're playing it safe and listening to your body. For mileage, I would recommend not going above a 10% increase each week.
