Hi Jeanette,

I came across this article this morning about GPS devices and why we should not become a slave to our pace using these devices.

Just thought you like...

The app should be able to tell you your pace per mile. And if I had to choose between a map my run feature or an app that uses GPS, I would use the app.

I'm competitive so I like to know how fast I am running but with the distance varying by .5 miles I have no idea how I'm doing lol. I want to run 8min/mile but won't know if I am or not? Arg!

Hi,

Unless you are able to precisely track the tangents on the Map Your Route feature to that of the app, there will be some discrepancies. As to which one you should follow--I tend to go with the GPS device--HOWEVER, when I run with my Garmin and my Nike + app, they can vary by as much as 1/4 of a mile. But I don't let that bother me--it's all relative. Because our bodies do not have odometers the distance covered is the distance covered.

BTW, it's even been reported that Garmin and other GPS device are not as accurate as many of us would like to think. Just use it as a tool and try not to get to concerned about accuracy.

Is anyone finding discrepancies in mileage? Spark map your route says 4.5 miles and my Runtastic Pro app that uses GPS says 4?? Thinking I should believe my app but man that sucks cuz I'm not running as well as I thought :o(
