Welcome to running! I agree, the Color Run 5K would be a good one to start with. I started running almost exactly 2 years ago.(wow...hard to believe it!), and the first race I did was the Shamrock Shuffle 8K less than 2 months later - I didn't realize that 8K was nearly 5 miles haha! I walked at least half of it, but my goal was just to finish in less than 1 hr 15 min (their cut-off for "official" times). It was so much fun!!

I think the color run would be a great intro race. I started running around the beginning of December 2010 and did my first 5k at the beginning of Marck 2011. I didn't run the whole thing but about 90% of it. I still don't run all of my races, I have a couple walking breaks.

I see there is a Color Run at the beginning of February. If you have some friends or family that would go with you, that would be lots of fun, and not competitive - perfect for a beginner runner.

Congratulations on entering a great sport. It's lots of fun!

What is your goal for a 5K? If your goal is to finish, you could probably sign up for one now. But if it is to run, then wait and reassess after your 8th week.

As for LA, sorry I'm on the other coast. Not sure on that one.

I'm a rookie runner, and I need advice. I really want to do a 5k! I'm not able to run a full 5k yet -- I'm on week 2 of an Ease into 5K program and I'm doing a fair amount of walking in between my running. When do you think it would be realistic for me to sign up for a race? Looks like it's an 8 week program.

Also, any recommendations for good rookie races in the Los Angeles area? I live in the South Bay and my family is in Santa Monica.
