Parneli-what is up with your butt?? piriformis? hope it eases...I had issues a year ago and they took months to resolve and still rear their heads occasionally.
I will say, the past couple weeks my runs have been PAIN FREE!! usually there is tightness and aching at the start but I almost shouted with glee the other day when I realized that my take off had no pain!!! YIPPEE!!

sorry, can't remember anything else. I walked today for 4 miles and felt great but chilled through when I was finished. I've had a headache since last night and have decided that it's from Stevia that I've been using. :( BOO!!
Tomorrow is another run day but will probably keep it to 3-4 miles. Sat. is a busy day with games home and away but the Squirt player is down with fever and very sore throat which stinks b/c his is a home game! I wouldn't mind missing an away game..so tired of driving but we signed up for it, didn't we? G'night , all!

booked our hotel for cincinnati for the flying pig in may! only about 18 rooms left so good thing i got done before they were all gone! gonna meet up with 20 + sparkers at the event, woo hoo!

Not much on tap for me today except a bit of ST-ing and ab work. Ran 4 days in a row and need to let the legs rest some. I'm now in taper for my marathon on Jan 20th.

We get to go chat with our financial adviser tonight. That is always fun.

Hi rooks -

Thanks for the goal support. I suppose the downside to hanging out with ridiculously fit people is that they all get together and talk about their next Ironman or whatever and then they ask me what races I'm doing and I'm like, "No races...I've decided to work on my tan this summer instead." and they look at me like I'm from another planet. emoticon

Yesterday I ate within my calorie range and did a Coach Nicole video. (I think my downstairs neighbors probably thought I was coming through the ceiling at them. Whoops.) This morning I did my PT stretching/strength exercises - do you think I can count that as yoga in my fitness tracker? I mean, it takes me like 30 minutes every day and some of them are actual yoga positions (like boat)...it's a pretty active therapy, not just sitting around stretching my hamstrings. Maybe I could count it once or twice a week. Thoughts?

Anne - you are looking like your emoticon. You have one great goal in place :)

Trish - great job on beating Josh. I skate, but I don't know if I'd get to the red line before either boy were across the ice and starting back. They are fast! Enjoy it while you can. (starts thinking that if I loaded them up with goalie equipment first.....nah, they'd still out skate me!).

Rich - sounds like wonderful runs in your area.

Anne - somehow work is worse when we leave in the dark and come home in the dark. But my days are getting longer now!

Nera - I am the same way. I don't even want to sweat in front of the kids I do know!

Hey everyone,

Quick post:) The kidlets and I went to Silver Star Mountain for some tubing and skating - they totally laughed at me because I haven't skated in 20 years....I did pretty well!!! Actually beat Josh in a race (yeah, I am mOm, hear me ROAR!!).

Don got out of ICU tonight, he is in a regular ward, but is still in reverse isolation.

Tomorrow we have to get this house back together (tree is still up:);)).

I LOVE reading all ya'lls' goals and accomplishments! I have no major goals for this year. I've got a major ordeal due in april, as most of you know. emoticon So, I'm focusing these next 4 months on eating as healthy as I can and continue my running and walking regularly for as long as possible....which is hopefully the very end. :)

So, I waited for it to "warm up" this morning before I ran. It was 10 F when I left the house, didn't want to go when it was single digits. tee hee hee Anyway, I really do love running when its cold out. Just wish the wind wasn't blowing in my face.
Seems like the Rooks got plans for 2013, some running, some having fun and just being rooks:)

Evening all! First day back to a full work day..blech! I am tired! I was hoping to run a short run on the treadmill and see how I feel but was totally wiped out after work! Not sure when this virus is going to break. Been since around mid December since I started with this bronchitis/pneumonia started. Feeling better but still dealing with some chest/rib/back discomfort and very tired. So I did about 30 minutes of runners yoga...ahhhhh...very relaxed!
At least I did something!
Hope I can get a run in sometime soon!

Rich-we have around 10 inches of snow here. It's brrrr...cold! But very pretty!
Jenny-that is my running goal every year. I just want to get out and run. No big races unless it involves meetups with spark people! I just want to enjoy my running and that means no big training plans. Works for me!

Jenny, I took 2012 off of running lots! I called it my rest and recovery year. You will feel great at the end of 2013. And by then, you will be looking for more races. Enjoy your recovery!!

I took my starting weight and did all my measurements today.
And then I ran 5 miles.

I love reading all these goals!

My goal for 2013 is a little bizarre, especially for this team - to take a year off from serious racing. I did a lot of hard races in 2012 and I am quite honestly a little burned out. So I'm going to take 2013 off from long races that I have to do a lot of training for. The only thing on my calendar right now is a half iron relay in July with Dani and Elsa - other than that, I think I'm just going to relax and exercise for joy instead of for training.

No headache here, thank goodness. I did, however, wake up in a "meh" kind of mood..... I went out and ran 5 kms tonight, though and that seemed to shake off some of it. I've tracked my meals for today, made lunch for tomorrow, set out most of what I need to have ready for work and now I'm Sparking. Fun times!

my goal is to run 13 5k's this year. I did one on last saturday (dec 29) but I am counting it. I did the second today. only 11 more to go for the year. I have to register for the one i am doing in february but the march, april and may reaces are already taken care of.

I did not have any running goals in 2012, other than to stay injury free. I ran one 5K mud race with zombies......will definitely do that one again!
For 2013, to continue to remain injury free and become stronger. Run as much as I want or as little as I want. I have learned the importance of rest.

In 2012, I ran 4 marathons, 6 half marathons and a 200 mile relay. That was a lot less then what I ran the previous year but 2012 was all about rest and recovery for me. I didn't even have a mileage goal in 2012.

I don't have a problem with fitness. Even when I was struggling with running, I still was out there 3-4 times a week. Just less mileage. I even started a ST-ing program but did fizzle towards the end.

My 2013 goals are
- first and foremost, to get some answers to my medical problem and get healthy again!!
- to focus more on my nutrition. I still have 6 pounds to get back to my goal weight. Tracking is key!! I go strong for a few days and then, nothing.
- to continue to run injury free. I have 5 marathons and 1 half marathon between now and June.
- to get back into my ST-ing routine.
- to spend more time with my husband and have more date nights!
- to enjoy my new volunteer position
- to (possibly) go back to school....still working on this one :)

I'll ditto that it's so great to hear all the wonderful things ya'll did in 2012 and the even greater things you have planned for 2013.

As for me, my 2012 list is short:
Ran Hood to Coast - but it was epic!

Goals for 2013:
-5k in April (hopefully with dh again this year)
-PDX HM in May
-Possibly the Reno-Tahoe relay (if you're interested in joining our team, let me know. We still have 2 spots)
-Possibly the Pacific Crest HM in June
-a few more 5k's, 10k's and HM's thrown in for good measure

Happy New Year everyone!

In 2012, I walked 8.1 miles at JASR & walked the Derby HM. That's right, no running. I loved walking the races with dear friends & spending time with everyone, but it was embarrassing having my Spark buddies see how much weight I'd regained & how out of shape I'd become.

So, in 2013, my main focus is taking care of myself again. I'm dealing with the worst bout of depression I've experienced in about 20 years, so there are things I have to do to combat that: exercise every day, eat better, get more sleep, stay connected with friends. I will run again this year. I would like to run at least one 5K with my daughter, & I'm also looking at possibly running the Flying Pig relay.

Can't wait to watch everyone meet/exceed their goals!

Happy January everyone!

I so love reading every ones 2012 accomplishments and all their 2013 goals/races! But as you some of you know I am not big on racing. I love running and exercise but racing isn't all that important to my plans. Bobby loves them and I enjoy the people and fun but for me being out there alone running is my favorite "me" time!
I really don't even know what races I did in 2012. There were some that stand out...
Of course the JASR in Pittsburgh where Bobby and I met even more wonderful sparkers. Each year is more exciting! The first year we started with around 10 people and boy has it grown!
And there was one that was recent that stands out. The jingle bell run in December. It was a race where a lot of people dress up (Bobby and I in our elf costumes)..hehe. But what was awesome was our niece ran her very first race EVER after completing the couch to 5k program!!! We didn't even know she was doing this! She did wonderful (I couldn't keep up with her) and is now hooked on running and racing. Nothing better than watching someone fall in love with something you love!! And getting healthy as a bonus!

So, for 2013...

Yes, I am going to lose those pesky 10-15 pounds this year. How??? By tracking. I have said thousands of times that this is my main answer to success in losing my weight and I need to follow my own advice. Back to tracking it is!
I don't really have a problem with keeping my exercise on track. That has not been an issue so I will not even put that in there. Eating is the thing I need to crack down on.
The rest of my goals involve health.
I am currently working with my GI doc on some issues and have a procedure scheduled for Feb. 4th so I will know more after. Then I will move forward with whatever eating plan is needed.

So..not exciting goals but ones I need to address.
Kinda turned into a mini blog didn't it! emoticon

Good morning all!

In 2012 I:
- finished a Tough Mudder
- finished three Sprint Triathlons
- became a certified Personal trainer

In 2013 I will:
- run one or two half marathons
- do two or three triathlons
- become more serious about my training!

Holy cow, I loved reading through people's goals for the year coming up. So exciting to have this fresh year to start writing on. Now make sure we take the steps necessary to make them happen. Start today!

Trish, I just read your letter to the Rookies, and I am in awe of all you accomplish and keep going through the obstacles.

2012 was the year that I finally got past (fingers still crossed) Plantar Fasciitis. It took almost three years and was so frustrating. But it did make me appreciate the ability to run. I'm with Bobby thinking that staying healthy is so much more important, than pushing past what we are ready for.

Have a great day Rookies. Focus on what's important to getting you where you want to go.

Hey everyone!

Happy New Years to you all:) The past year has been a HUGE rollercoaster:) The high side was my weee jaunt to Pittsburgh - a little suprise for my dear friends:)

Some happy stuff on the home front - Don is doing much better, he is off the breathing machine, and is doing much better. He will be in hospital for a while more, but things are looking up.

Goals???? LOL;)

1. To take care of me, so I can take care of my family.
2. Join the trail running circuit - I actually really love to run off-road, so I think that is a good way to jump myself back into the game.
3. To live life to the fullest!

2012 was an injury plagued year for me, i took off from 3/31 to 7/21 since then it has been a slow process getting back to running. i did however have one major accomplishment and that was doing a century ride, my first.

2013 goals will include getting healthy again. i have not said this may people but i guess i might as well put it out there........my "A" list goal for the year is at the end of september a
70.3 ironman...... there i said it now i gotta make it happen, scary thought.....

"A+" list
get healthy and stay healthy
get more sleep
eat better

"A" list
70.3 ironman

"B" list
3- half marathons
150 mile 2 day bike ride followed by a 100 miler 2 weeks later
a sprint tri
an olympic tri
and what ever 5 and 10k's i can work in

none of my A or B lists will be more important than staying healthy for me, no injuries1

for me this is the year of ------ " NO EXCUSES, ONLY RESULTS"!!!!

judi you were quick at getting this thread started and i was there with judi for her destination race and yes they are awesome so if you can do one do it!

In 2012 I ran

1 - 7.6k race
1 - 10k race
5 - Half Marathons
1 - 30k Trail Race
2 - Marathons

I DNF'd 1 - 30k race at 21.1 and 1 50k race at 27k

I am starting 2013 with a 56k trail run on Jan 13th.

I plan to run a few 50k trail events and I am hoping to have a crack at my first 100k event in October. I will also run at least 1 full Marathon too.

Its going to be a big year.

In 2012 I did one 5k running, another one fast walking with a friend, and a 15 mile event mostly walking. When it got hot in summer I stopped running (I don't tolerate heat well at all) and in the fall worked a little at it but not much. During the fall and currently thought I have been doing a lot of hiking, which is my very first passion.

In 2013 I want to start working on my running again. I want to run a 5k Cupid's Chase on February 9th, and do the 15 mile event again in late March. After that I'm not sure and will play it by ear. I also want to continue to work on hiking long and longer distances. Currently I'm doing about 7 or 8 mile hikes, up and down a lot of hills and mountains.

In 2012, I ran 4 Half Marathons, became a Half Fanatic, ran a 15K trail run, 15 5Ks, a 10 miler, 2 10Ks, and 3 5 milers, PLUS 3 Mud Runs.

In 2013, I plan to run 13 Half Marathons. I have registered for 8 already, some of them I will get to travel to! I will also do 5 (or more) Virtually.

I will also run my first (and only) Marathon!

It will be a great year!

2013 - a new year, full of possibilities and hopes.

Although I don't make resolutions, I do make new goals. What sorts of things did you accomplish last year that make you proud? What have you got planned in the new year to stretch your current limits?

In 2012, I went to my very first "destination" race, to Just a Short Run near Pittsburgh PA. It was so much fun meeting up with other SparkPeople members, and getting to put real faces to names. This virtual community is so "real". And after that destination race, I did another one in the fall - to beautiful Kelowna BC.

Racing can take you places - just lace 'em up and get started!
