I second the Buff. I live in the Midwest, and it's been pretty cold here lately... lots of single-digits and sub-zero temps. The Buff really helps by keeping me from breathing freezing air and by covering the skin on my face. Also, I'm not sure what temps you're running in, but if there's any danger of frostbite (either it's super-cold, or very cold + windy), you'll want to cover any exposed skin on your face with Vaseline to protect it.

I know that Columbia sells neck gaiters; I found mine in the hunting section of a sporting goods store and it works great. It was pretty cheap, too. Now seems to be the time to get that kind of stuff - everything is on super sale!

I think it does, RRT. If it's pulled over your nose and mouth it seems to warm the air before you inhale it. It does get a little humid under there but it's toasty. :-) I'm looking out today and thinking I might wind up in the gym though... the roads are covered in ice and snow. :-(

Take care,
Beth

Let me try posting this again!

Get yourself a Buff. As a brand, it's pricey, but the fabric "breathes" and it's better than the off-brand clones and way better than something like a knit scarf. Basically, it's just a tube of stretchy fabric that you can put around your neck and pull up as needed. A nearly always put mine on in the winter, because it's also good to keep your lower ears warm if the wind gets around your cap.

Don't blame you a bit on not running at night! I barely trust the cars around here during the day!! :-)

Take care,
Beth

Maybe it's my iPhone but I got page not found when I clicked that link.

I need advice on cold weather running. I invested in some good clothes and that helped but when that cold air gets in my lungs I have a difficult time.

I've been doing pretty well but I can only run weekend mornings now that its darker earlier, I'm too scared to be running after dark.

I really don't want to join a gym, I like being outdoors even if its cold. Last Saturday was the coldest day I've run so far and it didn't go well. This Saturday promises to be a little colder.

Do you all just wear a scarf around your face in the winter or is there something else I can do?
