I raced today 7.6km was a two lap course was really a fun one the first lap and a bit was nice and easy and then at three quarters of lap was pretty fast pushed it and ended up with a pretty nice overall pace. Happy with my 37.5 minutes

Jenny-how scary to get attacked by all those bees. Glad it wasn’t more serious.

Penny and Rick-hope both of you are all better soon too.

Carrie-that stinks about the water heater.

Anneoftracking-keep up the good work!

Nera-splash water in their face and then tell them you pee’d. Not nice I know, I would be frustrated too.

Dr. E-sounds like a fun tri.

Definitely a rest day for me today. I’m wiped out today. It’s 7:00 and I’m ready for bed. The full moon shines right in my bedroom window and wakes me up.

Good evening, everybody.

11.5 mile bike ride this morning, 5 mile run last night and 1 mile swim yesterday afternoon...now if I can just put them back to back to back! Legs are tired - rest day tomorrow - maybe! LOL.

Shutting down the swim for a week. Y is draining and cleaning and too many problems at the college pool.

Rich - hope you are feeling better.

Beth - Enjoy that vacation! I am always available for a short 5 miler!

Penny - Take that entire script and make sure you drink lots of water!

Judi - My son loves Ghosts - and he is not a runner!!

Jenny - Sept. 29. It's an indoor 300m swim, outdoor 22.5K bike and 5K run. The transition from inside to outside is interesting.

I went to the gym pool again tonight. Again kids in the pool. I didn't bother to complain because it is obvious the gym doesn't care. Just so tired and wishing I could afford a nicer gym.

Home from work..finally!
Still tracking! Have 4 bucks in my jar so far! Yipee!
I am slowly trying gluten free eating to see if it helps my GI issues...been going on way to long!

Beth-I loved Lewiston when I used to live in Niagara Falls. It was such a nice little town. Of course it has been 22 years since I lived there..might be different now. Hope you had fun! Alex was born in Lewiston hospital.
Christy-are you crazy? I think maybe a few days of rest is in order..crazy girl!
Jenny-ow..ow..owie! That had to be awful girl! I am so glad you are not allergic. (Alex is really allergic, Derek is allergic to just some). So scary.
Doris-owie to you also on the IT band. And I agree with Jenny on the smaller hills for repeats. Sometimes I just count my runs as hill workouts..we live in hilly areas also.
Rich and Penny-feel better!
Judi-have fun harvesting!
K...off to bed soon.

Someone out there is really testing me... our water heater crapped out on us yesterday. However! I called a plumber (recommended by a former colleague) who is SO wonderful. He will be here tomorrow with a new water heater.

Home again today. I actually went in but they sent me home. Now I'm "resting". Actually, I'm probably not far from snoring but I know I should eat something first so the drugs I'm on have something to play with and aren't rolling around in an empty stomach.

Hope y'all are having a great Thursday.

Hi rooks:

Judi - good luck with the harvest! Glad the new shoes gave you some bounce, too. emoticon

Rich and Penny, feel better!

Hi Kirsten!

Doris, the run coach from my tri class says that you should ideally pick hills similar in lenght and grade to what you'll find in whatever race you're preparing for. So if you have 1/2 mile hills in your race, then by all means pound away. However, if you're just doing hill repeats for general fitness, you should probably pick a smaller hill. (Or do fewer repeats.) That's my two cents - I run in a pretty hilly neighborhood so I don't really do many hill repeats unless I'm training for a very hilly race.

Beth - that sounds fun! Are you on vacation already or just off today? I've never been to Niagra Falls - it's on the bucket list.

Anne and Anne - I know how both of you you feel on the weight issue. I gained 4 lbs in July and I've spent most of August trying to shake them without much success. It's starting to get me down. emoticon

Frank, when is your tri? I thought you mentioned that it was in September, but I can't remember whether you said the beginning or end of the month.

Had a bad run-in with some bees on Tuesday night. Tuesday is garbage day in our neighborhood and I was pulling my garbage cans out of the alley and back onto their little platform by the garage and apparently there was a hornets' nest under the platform that I didn't know about. I was totally swarmed - just covered with bees. It was awful - I got stung a lot. I counted about 14 welts but Andy says he thinks it was more like 18-20. I had a lot of stings on my back where I couldn't reach to get the bees off of me. I also had a lot on my right leg, a couple on my hand and neck, and a few on my arms and stomach. Thankfully, I didn't get any stings on my face. I'm also really lucky that I'm not allergic to bees. I didn't feel so good yesterday - all of my joints were really achy and it hurt to bend my fingers, so I just sacked out on the couch whenI got home from work. I feel better, today though - just a little tired and a couple of spots still hurt. I suppose overall it could beeee worse. emoticon

I did ride my bike for the commute yesterday and today - I might try to go swimming tonight too, depending on how I feel at the end of the day.

Ok, time to scoot! Happy Thursday!

Rich, glad you are feeling better.
Penny, hope you feel better ASAP. Bladder infections are NOT fun at all:(
Judi, what do you harvest? Corn, wheat, etc.... I did not know that it was that long of a harvest either.
Sprouts, glad you found a solution to nausea. And its good for you!
Beth, hope you get in your bike ride with DH.
Not much happening here. I wish, like many, that I did not have to work either. But, we do. Today is a rest day from running. My left IT is sore. I guess it did not like hill repeats either. Here's a question, how long should the hill be for repeats? I am thinking 1/2 mile might be too much.......

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Judi-WooHoo on the new shoes giving you some pep in your step! Love that feeling.

Rich and Penny-BooHoo on the sickies. Get better soon both of you.

Anne-a good challenge for yourself. Tracking is so much work.

Anne-Good luck with the 11 miles tomorrow.

I attempted a run today. Not a good idea. I made it about ¾ of a mile but my calves were screaming the whole time. Guess I need a couple more days of rest. I’m ready to get back at it though.

HI! Frank-very interesting..Glad it all worked out.
Beth-no excuses: get a schedule in motion! Glad your boys are home, too!!
Doris-you had a great day with the folks plus a run...did you run home or did they give you a lift?
Nera-I'd have been yitching about and AT the kids,too...that's ridiculous! Glad you got a family walk in...that doesn't happen with my hubby. BUT-he did say he'd like to hit the trail Monday for a family bike ride..hopefully, we have enough bikes in right sizes that are working...some boys might be on girl bikes. :)
Penny-OUCH! sorry you're sick.
Rich-yo're sick,too? Blech!
Anne-I need to track and measure portions. My hips and thighs are WAY bigger than amonth ago and I still have 8 months of growing left!!!
Today I got in a 3 mile walk and some bridges and tri dips. Also got some groceries..tomorrow is LSD: shooting for 11 , i think. Schedule says 10 but I did that last week!
Feeling really 'full' all the time, but if I go more than a couple hrs without food, I get super duper nauseous. The running helps alot so after tomorrow's miles, I should be feeling 'fine' for the afternoon.

Good evening Rookies!!!

It has been awhile since my last post too. We have started harvesting here, with long days and lots of busy-ness with big machinery. This is a six-twelve week process, depending on the weather!
emoticon

Christy - congrats on your HTC weekend. I'm glad your legs are starting to loosen up. The drive likely didn't help things along.

Rich / Penny - hope you both are feeling better very soon.
emoticon

I got a new pair of running shoes from the Running Room online, and they arrived yesterday. Brooks Ghost! Man, I felt a big spring in my step difference, and my distance covered in my 5/1 intervals was greatly improved. I can hardly believe that a shoe could make that much difference. We'll see on my next run. Perhaps I was just having a very good day! I'm in training for a 10k at Trish's in October, and I'm well on my way. My long run this week was over 5 miles, so by October I should be there. Looking forward to running with Trish, Penny, Missy, Joshy and Paul too! I'm in Friday night, and out Tuesday night, but will have my parents with me.

sick, too. Bladder infection. You know it's bad when the doctor rubs your shoulder and says, "it's really bad, isn't it?". Super drugs and a day of rest. I hate missing my runs and my driver training. Hopefully, I'm better by tomorrow because this friggin' sucks rocks.

Trish-I’ll keep you in mind for HTC 2013. I think I know of someone who might be putting a team together, need to confirm, not sure if he’ll be looking for runners.

I had a score to settle today, me vs. the stairs. Christy: 1 Stairs: 0 I was able to tackle them today. Sometimes it wasn’t pretty but I did it. Tomorrow I’m heading out for a run after work.

I am going to try to get on a schedule. I have been sleeping until I feel like getting up and going to bed when I feel like it too. So, now that I am working full time, I need to have a schedule or as much of one as I can! I know that I will never start work earlier than 9am and stay no later than 9PM. So, my new bedtime is 10 and my getting up time is going to be 7:30. That way, I have time to run before work at least 4 times a week without having to rush through showering and lunch making......
Glad to see that all are doing well and you guys figured out the blood issue with that patient.

Happy running

Good evening, folks. Hit the pool today. Got in a very good mile swim; I really need to learn to count. I know I swam more than a mile but one would think 66 wouldn't be bad. On the real bike tomorrow morning for the first time. Goal is 10 miles.

WARNING - lots of lab jargon forthcoming.

Beth & Anne11 - We had a patient who semi-routinely comes in for anemia. The antibody screen showed that the pt. developed an antibody for the first time but also reacted against their own cells. The reaction against their own cells really clouded the issue. I ran two panels (and a couple of other tube tests) to try to clear it up - was on the phone with the doc on call and even sent my results to Buffalo General so they could look at them. I had it narrowed down to an anti-C or anti-Kell with an autoantibody. I wanted to rule out the anti-C because I did a cross match on six units and all were compatible. I left, the overnight tech spent the night phenotyping the patient and all six units. The next morning a new sample was drawn and a lot of the work was repeated at BGH. Bottomline: anti-K antibody and an autoantibody. Not a huge accomplishment but considering how many blood bank samples I actually run and how often this happens to me (and the fact that I work alone and have the entire lab to cover) I'm pretty happy with how I did. 26 hours after the patient came to the hospital the 2 units of blood were issued.

We ended up doing a three mile walk yesterday as a family. Was fun but a little warm and a bit tiring. LOL!!! Tonight I was at the gym pool and I had to be the typical crabby older woman. If you want your kids in the pool watch them. Or better yet come when it is suppose to be kids time at the pool. Three adults tonight trying to swim laps with a bunch of kids some as young as 6. Plus no adult supervision of the young ones that I could see. I managed to get in a pretty good 45 minutes but I did complain the front desk when I left. I don't come swim during kids time because I don't want to swim with kids horseing around in the pool. So I shouldn't have to put up with it during adult swim time. I wish Lifetime wasn't so expensive. They were very good at keeping the kids out of the lap pool. Okay crab session over. LOL!!!!

Trish cool that your kids are doing the running training. Carrie I hope you get it figured out on how or if to rent your house. We thought about doing that but I decided against it. I like my house and I don't want renters in it. LOL!!! My son is close enough as a renter and he drives me crazy at times. LOL!!!

So, this morning I ran to my parents house (3ish miles away), mostly uphill. Hoping someone could drive me home or not. I was prepared to run back home. Anyway, Mom says "We are going to Campers World to buy and DH folding bikes for the boat for Christmas. Let's go!" I am stinky and sweaty, etc etc. So, I jump into the pool to cool off, change into some of Mom's clothes and off we go. Now, 6 hours later, I am home and finally showered:) It was fun except for the french fries and the ice cream. OK, they were fun too but so not healthy.....

My oldest wants to do a color run next year..she'd better get running!
Hmmm...I just read thru and made mental notes but cannot remember what I wanted to say.
Penny-that's a rough day, IMO. Glad you can take Roo along. Our kids said that The Lorax wasn't a great movie either from the book.
Doris-good for you on doing something every day!
Beth-glad that the boys are coming home.
FRank-please tell about the BB! It's been so long working in the lab but I absolutely loved it!
Hi,Deej !
Christy-so glad that you enjoyed HTC!
Trish-that is so cool that the kids are running! are you tagging along with them?? HUGS!
I have a kid here who is irritating the bananas outta me!! he keeps chattering and even though I'm typing and trying to listen to him(he's supposed to be outside getting some exercise)...I'm only half here.
got in a decent 6 miles this a.m. 3 x1600 in 8:33 pace plus 1 mile w/u,1 mile c/d and 800s in between ...worked out nicely though I thought I was failing miserably at the time. :) I then did 100 squats and 5 1 min. planks. Feeling tired~~and Beth, yes, nauseous from sunup til I fall asleep. running helps ALOT,though and I felt better yesterday. Maybe it's already improving??? I can only hope.

Anne, sounds like a fun weekend!

Beth - yay to the men coming home!

Deej - yeah, I was with your daughter originally - I thought it sounded dumb. But Elsa offered me a free bib to one that happened in Racine back in May and I did it just for the heck of it and became a total convert by the second km. :)

Ahhh...that's all I can remember.

Color Run on Friday was ridiculously fun. I put some pictures up on FB - my forehead had some pink spots on Saturday and Sunday but they've mostly faded. My sister got a lot of orange on her face that stained a bit and she said that every time she looked at herself in the mirror on Saturday, she felt like she'd had some sort of unfortunate incident with self-tanner. emoticon

Spent the rest of the weekend in Chicago with my beau, eating bad food and generally just being lazy. It was wonderful. emoticon

Last group ride of the season tonight! I'm hoping we do at least 20 miles to finish off strong.

Time to scoot - happy Monday!

Good morning all!

Beth - wine tasting sounds fantastic.

Don't know yet how exactly we're going to handle the rental... I have an e-mail out to the realtor about some options, so we'll see.

Gym gear is on - it's time to get back on it and stop wallowing in self-pity. Life goes on.

Trish, I read it somewhere... I just don't know where. That's UBERexciting!! We're flying in this year, did I tell you? Thought the drive would be too much for Roo. Got everything all booked now. In Friday, out Monday. No boys though. Paul's already worrying about who'll watch Roo. We have 13 runners coming from here, most with spouses, plus Miss, Don(?) and more that I'm probably forgetting. I don't think "safe" childcare will be a problem. *sigh*

Beth, I *DID* know that. How do the new releases work though? We get a new one every three or four months.

Beth, and anyone else who might be interested, I thought "the Hunger Games" was a good movie but I haven't read the book so I'm not sure if it's better, worse or even. "The Lorax", in Colin's words, was the WORST book to movie ever. LOL. I fell asleep. Didn't even make it 30 minutes in.

Ran a good, strong 16 kms today. I'm trying to figure out what to do and HOW to do it this week. Only doing my running last week is taking a toll on my psyche. I *really* miss my BodyPump and Boot camp classes.

So, I have been reading posts each day but I haven’t posted much. Here are my clif notes:
Rich needs to run so he went off into the wind.
Nera’s son is acting like a “typical” college ready kid: likes to spend time with Mom if the time is centered around him and what he wants. Sheesh. I agree with your political rant!
Frank’s son is driving. I am glad that I don’t live near by☺
Beth, did you get the pedicure? Glad FIL is home!!!
Carrie, how was the rental news? Is it a good idea?
Deej, hope your training for the half is going well.
Jenny, glad you had fun watching the guys get all tossed by the lake.
Sprouts, You, a slug? I don’t believe it! You have all those kids to keep track of. Suezette, I too avoid buffets. Glad you got a run in too.
Penny, glad your driving is coming along. It will be nice to have a job that “roo can “help” you with☺
AnneofBobby, sounds like a great run, maybe running off the b-day cake?!
Penny, glad you had fun at HTC and made new friends. We can never have enough friends!
I hope all are doing well and getting in some good exercise. I have been running 3-4 days a week. Some weeks I run 2, rest day, run 2 then take two days as rest. Well, rest from running. I rarely take an entire day as a rest day. I think I might need one, for mental health more than anything.
Stay strong, run fast☺

Good evening, all!

The meeting with the realtor was pretty good. The broker's fee was a little steep, so I sent out an e-mail to ask about some options. But hubs was on board with paying for management... so I guess it answered a few questions. Sometimes it feels like it would just be easier to stay put and keep doing what we're doing, but I know that won't get us anywhere. I suppose it's a good chance to make a fresh start!

Cleaned the kitchen like a fiend today. I scrubbed and scrubbed... and scrubbed. If I keep going like this, the house is going to be spotless in no time!

Time for a little snack and some couch time...

Carrie

HTC was about the most awesome thing ever! I had a blast, couldn't have been happier with my van of teammates. We pushed each other, supported each other and had a great time in the process. They were all strangers to me when we started and I'm sure friends for life by the end. Rest was non-existent so I'm a bit exhausted now and my legs are sooooo sore I'm sure it's going to take me at least a week to walk normally again. But it was all worth it. I'm still in Portland, heading home (driving) tomorrow. Will blog soon.

Howdy folks. Tough week and then a three day work weekend. Yikes. I could sleep now but I still have five hours to go. Had a tough one in the blood bank Friday night. Took over 24 hours and four people working on it to resolve. My original hypothesis was correct - surprise, surprise.

Going for a walk later today. Son suggested it. Thinks he feels bad that our day together this week wasn't so hot. Just got back from the grocery store and had a BLT for lunch. I haven't exercised all week so really need to get back at it.
