Hi Buddies!!

Have 4 mins b4 I have to plug in at work...

I see I'm not the only runner missing from the thread... I've missed y'all and have had ya in mind n came over for my Rookie fix...

Good to read that everyone's out there keeping up amidst vacays, job i-views & jobs :)

Carrie, wishing you the bestest Friday... you have such an amazing personality & you just shine!! I have every confidence you'll do well! I'm sick over all the music cuts.. that's just wrong. Such a loss for the kids!

Beth, I'll see ya over there :)

Have 5 miles of hills on my schedule today; Jay's not wild about me running in the dark & with my new schedule, that leaves me running after work (3 pm or after)... heat's starting to zap me :( what's a girl to do with a half coming (1 month from today) and a full in her future...

Y'all have an AMAZING day! I'll check in later..

Dog Days of Running?

That's my suggestion...

Awake bright and early for a spin class and some swimming. Today I will be getting my interview materials ready - I think I'm going to take some fun props so the interviewers can see how much fun I have in my music classes!

Have a super day!

Good evening, folks.

Missing in action the last few as we end the summer semester. I can see vacation over the horizon...final exam and then done!!

Swam a mile yesterday and followed it up with an 8mile bike ride and 5K run today.

Had my followup with the doctor yesterday for my foot and knee. He's baffled as to the knee but is sending me for an MRI on the foot tomorrow. Follow up with him is on 8/20 (which is ok, I will be gone until the 17th). Just want them to find something.

No run today. I walked 3.3 miles at work. Last week I walked 17 miles at work and ran another 14 miles. No wonder my legs are tired!!! I think I will run less and try to walk less. Ha. That won't work. I guess I'll just get the red solo cup and have a drink:)

Good evening all!

There's movement on the job front - I have an interview on Friday afternoon! This is a very good thing; I imagine that for every music position posted there are at LEAST a dozen applicants - music is unfortunately getting cut all over the place.

Made it to the gym tonight for a little run and a Power Yoga class. SO wonderful.

I will recommend Ciao Bella Coconut Sorbet - not exactly healthy, but super delicious.

Hi all! I so miss my spark friends. What on earth is going on that I am so darn busy?
Anyhow...I did a great Coach Nicole Boot camp workout after work then led a Spark Live class w/Bobby of course and now am doing a little laundry. Need to make our lunches for work tomorrow and get to bed early. Very tired. (Just like Carrie...I am thinking 8:53 might even be too late) :)
Sprouts-when is your 1/2?
Doris-hooray on the empty attic! When are you moving?
Jenny-great job on the bike ride! Cool on the free tune up.
All I remember. Think I will go pick up that red solo cup and put a little red wine in it. Just a sip before bed time!emoticon *closest thing I could find to a red solo cup*

Ha, Carrie, I hear you about bedtime at 8:53 pm. I was sitting on the couch last night at 9:30 trying to catch up on Olympics and I just kept snoozing and having to rewind to see what I missed. Finally I just gave up and hit the sack around 10 (super early for me).

Had a really nice group ride last night. We did 18 miles in just over an hour, so we were cruising. We were on a bike path and there was a little cycle shop so we stopped to fill up our bottles. There was a mechanic outside and he asked if we needed anything and then proceeded to give most of us a free tune-up! It was pretty cool - I'll definitely head over there and give them some business next time I need a tube or a CO2 cartridge.

Ok, back to work!

Happy Tuesday!

"Let's have a party, proceed to party...."

The exact part of The Red Solo Cuo song that was playing this morning when I pulled into the driveway at home, 25.71 miles of biking done! I rode in to town this morning from the lake, in under two hours. I left at 5 am so that I would be back in time to get to work.

Feeling great!

Bobby, I used the red solo cup:) I washed it and left it for the next person.....

Painted windows today, pruned shrubbery (it had to be sacrificed) and then, went out for dinner. It was OK. No run today or tomorrow. I am listening to my body and it has said NO!

I hit the gym pool today. I got up late(slept 11 hours wow) so by the time I got there all the family with kids were there too. But I managed to get in a solid 35 minutes. Then home to weed out the front flower bed. Unfortunately the bees who were enjoying this one flowering shrub didn't care for my hanging around. No one got stung but only because I beat a hasty retreat. LOL!!!!

Hi all. Did you know that there is nothing but insulation and dust bunnies in my attic?!?! I am so excited that it is empty! We kept Christmas stuff and the suitcases and EVERY THIING else went away. I told DH that we are essentially moving from 1900 square feet to 450 ish so he could not keep anything that he doesn't use on a regular basis. It worked! No more empty boxes in the attic:) It will make moving easier and mean less stuff to try to sell or haul off to Goodwill.
Now, if I could just get in a run........

Good Morn!

Rich, sounds like you're listening to the bod :)

I'm out for a long one in a few... missed last two 5 milers. 1st on Fri when Mom was here & again yesterday :( I never feel bad when I miss due to Mom visits cuz I don't get enuf of those; but I've been down over Sat's run. Feel a bit of guilt over missing that one, thought I'd work it in but couldn't & found myself yawning most of the day after a good night's sleep so laid down & was out like a light after grocery shopping then just didn't have it in me... guess my travels finally caught up with me ;( at any rate... back out there for 10 to 12ish this morning. Ready for a good run... Weds night's was brutal with hills and over 104 heat index... 71 right now... cold front! Ahhhh...

Good evening, folks. Went to the pool tonight and finished my one mile swim! I never cramped or got tired so I just kept swimming. All is feeling well but I was hungry when done. LOL.

Rich - Hope you had a great Friday.

Nera - Great walk!

Carrie - Nice workout! Good luck on that next Tri!

I wish I was still outside for work, but nope, inside. Its fine though.
today, cleaned out clothes and dressers and closets. We have a lot of stuff to take to Goodwill!! Wow, I am amazed at how many articles of clothes two people (OK, mostly me) have accumulated in a few years.

Good afternoon all!

ARGH I am so tired of working on this assignment for my class! It's SO pointless. I am throwing together information onto a PowerPoint - not exactly my idea of graduate work. It's almost over.

Beth - my swim was very nice. Instead of focusing on speed, I concentrated on my form and breathing technique. I like the change of pace.

I did a little brick this morning - 45 minute spin class and 20 minutes of TM running. I am beat.

Off to finish my assignment...

Good evening folks. Apparently, I just missed about 48 hours. LOL. Busy of couple of days.
Yesterday I swam 1300 and 700 yards. Feeling good but tired. Hips are a little grumpy today. I think I could have swum the entire mile continuous if I hadn't started cramping up. Another crazy day today. A full day off tomorrow!...but...a full weekend here at the hospital (4 out of 6 days actually).

Good afternoon all!

Jenny, I totally get the triathlon training thing. I feel lazy on the days I "only" run or "only" do a spin class.

I have been working on this project for a class - the project and the class are both totally ridiculous - I can't seem to figure out the point of either. ARGH. I have been on the computer for HOURS at a time! Between my classwork and getting application materials together, I am going to have a huge computer hunch and Secretary Spread if I'm not careful!

I think it's time to get away from the screen and maybe take a nap. Later this evening is a swim and stretch class...

Hi kids - it's been a long time since I've been in here! It's been a busy summer for me and I've been trying to stay off the computer when I get home at night - also, this triathlon training business takes a LOT of time. Jeez - it's not just "go for a run" anymore, it's go for a run AND THEN go for a swim. (And then come home and collapse on the couch.) No wonder people who do tris are such athletes!

Hoping to be in here more in August. Looks like some good things have been going on in here!

Happy Thursday!!!

Our weather is making me feel as trapped inside as winter does. So hot and humid just can't take being outside for any length of time. So hope weather moderates soon. No exercise toay. TOM started today and all I want to do is put on sweat pants and hit the couch. Was super bummed to get home from work and find my son has friends over. Sigh!!!!!

Good afternoon all!

I have been napping like CRAZY today. This morning's spin class kicked my butt - 45 minutes of HARD resistance for hill training. Hubs and I managed to get to the park for a little Frisbee throwing...

Beth - I re-did my goals and one of them is to do my scheduled workout every day.... it's been helping me get my rear out of bed to get my workout in.

Hey all,

Move was not far just one suburn. But super close to a fave area for running. Just around the corner down the street and I am on to the track - one way to the trails and a big stair and trail running workout the other way for a nice flattish run on the bike paths.

Good evening, folks.

Our heat broke today. Sitting outside and actually a little chilled. Brick workout today. 45 minutes on the bike (11.57 miles) and 30 min 5K run. I am a little tired but feeling good. Foot is behaving for the most part.

Nera - I like it when the pool is empty. Good luck with the barefoot running.

Christie - Saw some folks spinning at the Y. Looks like quite the workout. Someday I will get up the guts to try it.

Beth - Hope the gluten free works for you.

Hi Judi - hope work went well.

Mel - We could use the rain, too. Hope you get some soon.

Carrie - Great job on that run in the humidity.

Doris - Keeping cool is keeping cool...whether you drink it or wear it!!

Carrie, I too had a soupy morning run. I wore my fuel belt with all 4 water bottles full. Drank tow and dumped the other tow on my head. It was good. I took a few more walk breaks than usual but all was ok.
Rich, why the move? Why have we not heard of it before it happened?? Spill the details...inquiring minds want to know (OK, nosy people want to know).

Good morning all!

I overslept this morning (by a lot - alarm was 6:00, woke up at 8:15ish) and I trying my darndest to make excuses why I shouldn't run, but none of them were good enough. So I did my run. I very soupy three miles, but it's in. Yahoo!
Chiropractor appointment this afternoon, and swim and yoga this evening. My very awful tri on Saturday was a good reminder that I need to *keep* training to improve... I tend to get stuck in a rut when I'm at a certain point.

Have a super day!

Mel - I got to meet Woodheat this year at JASR in Pennsylvania in March. He is just as awesome in person (or even more so), as he is on the boards. And his wife is a hoot - so much fun. No wonder he always has a smile on his face! Great for you for the motivation. I'm so happy you are in this place right now.

Rich - wow, a new home to get used to! Are there new running routes nearby? How far did you move from your last home? So many questions....

Trish - I am not even going to try and give you advise on what to do with your back. Ask your doctor, or more likely - you already have, and didn't like the answer! I'm on to you sweetie!

Christy - that is so exciting. Are you practicing in the dark already? And going on double runs on the weekend? That is a run like no other! Enjoy it, and the training leading up to it.

Beth - glad the wedding was fun. SP has a whole schwack of info on gluten free. Do a search in both the green box in the upper middle part of this page, and in the daily spark blog area. A co-worker's hubby had to go gluten free this spring, and I helped her find info on here. Oh, and don't forget the SparkRecipes.com area - they have some great recipes in theres.

Gotta fly - work AGAIN!!!

Good morning Rookies!!

I picked up a pair of Asics for a great price this weekend. I'm looking forward to breaking them in - hopefully tomorrow night. It's been very dry here in Atlantic Canada. We desperately need rain and we are expecting some today, so no run tonight for me.

Eating is going well, motivation is still kicking - feeling good! As Woodheat would say "Life is Good".

Enjoy your day! emoticon

Jhoward-welcome to the team. You’ve found the place for support. My tip for beginners - go slowly. Don’t try to do too much too quickly.

Judi-yes, HTC this year. I’m getting EXCITED!! Sounds like a great way to spend your summer, at the lake camping.

Carrie-congrats on that tri!

Nera-congrats on your new lower number

Rich-new home? Newer, nicer, or just different?

My mojo has flown the coop. No exercise all weekend. I think I’m going to head out for a run here in a bit once the temps cool down some. If nothing else, spin in the am. Guess I better go get ready for that.

Hit the pool at the gym tonight. I like it when I am the only one there which was how it was for most of my work out. Still so hot and humid here.

Good evening, folks. Back to the pool today. 1100 and 750 yard rotations. Feeling a little tired but getting the hang of it. I can't imagine what 750 yards is like in open water.

Beth - We are still going to visit a couple of others but he really likes Baldwin-Wallace and St. Bonaventure Universities. If it were me I would be going back to my alma mater, Canisius.

Carrie - I envy you. I just cannot get up and exercise in the morning.

Rich - Great job on the move!

Good morning all!

Got my rear out of bed for an early spin class. It's so much easier for me to get my workout in when I get into my gym clothes right when I get up. And it's too early to get distracted by anything else!

Have a super day!

That is good advice for how to start barefoot running. Today I just rode my exercise bike. I did 4 intervals where I pedalled really fast for a minute then two minutes of ride recovery.

I had to spend part of the day at my BIL new campsite. He bought a spot to put his airstream. There is no lake to swim and the places are really close together. It was nice had a gazebo but still not my thing. Plus it is very hot and humid here today and after 2 hours I was really wilting. Luckily the hubby saw my distress and sitting outside isn't his thing either so he invented an excuse to us to leave.

Not sure if I mentioned it but lost a pound this week. Was so nice to see a "new" lower number. LOL!!!!

I have often thought about barefoot running as I really do hate wearing shoes of any sort. However, I have no feeling in part of the bottom of my right foot. I think if I ran barefoot, I could seriously hurt it and not even know! So, sneakers on my tootsies......
For some reason I feel like I hit a brick wall today. I can't even get out of my own way. Sheesh. A nap I think.

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Okay, in my books, running 21K is not a fail! LOL

Nera - I have missed almost the whole month in here, so forgive me if this has been covered. The trick with barefoot running is to ease into it. Start with walking, and when you can walk regularly without any issues, start to add in small bits of running - no more than 10% to begin with, even if it means using them to run around a couple of blocks and then coming in to change into your other shoes to finish. Badda$$ better watch out!

Carrie - Awesome job getting it done. I already checked out your blog :)

Beth, how was the wedding?

We are at the lake still, but it's raining, so hubby and I are just enjoying some coffee and quiet time. He's reading the papers and I'm visiting with you! My summer has been so much fun. Our trailer is parked at the lake for six weeks, and it's 25 miles from home. So I continue to work, but we've spent each evening and every weekend out here since mid-June. There are most of our friends in the campground with us, the boys are here lots with their friends, and these past two weeks my sister has had her camper here too. And a couple of times I've had different brothers stop by for a lake visit. So having friends and family so close, nice weather, have given me some great memories. Plus the active moments are many - just what I needed to tone up a bit more.

The appeal to barefoot running is:
1. I can't afford a new pair of running shoes.
2. From people who have done it they say they get a better more natural stride
3. Yeah I want to look bada$$$ LOL!!!

I lost a pount when I stepped on the scale this morning super big yeah!!! I went shopping with my sister and found a pair of capris that fit another big yeah!!!!!

JHoward - Welcome!! Tips - if you feel like it's too hard, back off a bit. So many beginners feel failure instead of just allowing themselves to get used to the work of running. It's no shame to slow down!

Mel / Penny - have so much fun getting together. I want to be there with you all!

Kirsten - too bad about the apartment, and the fact that all those people are now displaced and kind of "lost". Fire is so disrupting, but I'm happy none of their friends were hurt.

Christy - are you doing HTC this year? Wow - you go girl!

We are basically living at the lake, so my internet time is really down. I still love you guys, and will catch up soon - I promise. I'm still running!

Hey everyone! I just joined this team and I want to be honest up front. I used to HATE running because it was always the punishment in team sports and I was definitely never the fastest girl. I'm just started my lifestyle changing journey. I did interval running for about 3 months and actually liked it (don't tell any of my old coaches :) ) I got away from it and would like to start back up. This team seems to be very active and inspirational so why not dive right in and surround myself with the people who know and love what their doing?!?Have a great weekend I hope some of you got the cool weather change that started last night here. Any tips for beginners???

Barefoot running - what's the appeal/reason/impetus? Other than being totally bada$$, of course!

Neraus - my hubby was chatting with one of his co-workers who's an elite runner. He said that it can take a really long time for your feet muscles to adapt to running barefoot, so go slowly! I don't run barefoot, but I do do my other cardio workouts barefoot, and it has really strengthened my feet all around. Maybe that's something you can do to help out your progress!
