My race (Get Your Rear in Gear for colon cancer) this morning went better than I hoped. I was afraid I would be running in the rain. It was slightly drizzling for most of the race with a temp in the 50s. I was cold before the race started but it was actually quite pleasant racing. I haven't been running as much since my last race because my shins have been bugging me (1-1.25 miles at a 3x/week with lots of fast walking). I had four goals in mind: run the first mile (last race I was sure I had and was far from it), keep a consistent pace running, maintain deep, even breathing while running and finish under 45 minutes before the awards ceremony started.
My official time was 38:36 (848/987) that was up from 40:25 last month. I ran the first mile than walked for one song. Then ran until mile marker 2 then walked a song. Then I ran the rest of the way with the exception of walking about 100 feet. The first mile felt tough; but, the last mile felt really great. I was getting a little tired when I saw the finish line and that was the push I needed to keep going.
My shins are sore (but I don't think as bad as last time and I am still healing); but my new shoes felt good and my feet didn't feel pinched like last time. As I crossed the finished line, I thought I will deal with sore shins for this feeling of accomplishment. I will be icing and stretching a lot before my next race on June 9th.

I hope everyone else had a better race than I did. Holy hot! I think it was nearing 90degree at 9 am! I walked a lot with my friend at h beginning, but then she told me to run ahead. I made up some time, but around mile 7 I started loosing ground, and mile 10 I was walking a lot. I finished in 2:32. Not great, but i finished! Its not my last half marathon, so I just hope the conditions are better next time!!
