Good luck to everyone racing today. I hope you have better weather than I have(snow) yuck.

Carrie what does one wear to a tough mudder? Is there a concern about a wardrobe malfunction in that mud?

Thanks for the positive thoughts. Next time I will do laps in the NM chocolate hot tub instead of the pity pool.

Talk about the bike accident reminds me of the one time I had one. I was in college and crossing against the light(so my fault) I was hit by a car. I was flipped over the front of my bike and hit the road. I just remember once I hit the road I had to get up and out of there. So I jumped up and grabbed my bike and ran for the side of the road. The driver stopped and we talked. I just remember him saying"it scared the hell out of me when you jumped up off the road and ran off." Even then I thought but hitting me was no big deal?!!! LOL!!!! I got a fantastic bruise on my hip but it didn't look like anything so unable to get a commercial endorsement. LOL!!!!

Crazy Roller Coaster run done. Yeah. Man hard is not the word. It was very technical so even the down hills were quite energy sapping due to the concentration required. Finished it in 2:35 which I was very happy about as a guy had posted that he had run a flat half of 1:35 but it took him 2:45 in training to do this course.

I am kind of glad I did not do this course in training as I probably would not have done it.

There was an elevation gain of basically 1km all up and section too steep to run and even if you could have run it was quicker to walk and not only that if you had run you would have trouble putting your feet in safe spots.

Glad I did it. Awesome sense of achievement at finishing it. Gives me a long slow distance run of 2:35min which is the longest time I have ever run (even though there was walking in there)

The race winner did it in 1:38 amazing if you ask me.
So Tired now.

Oh Yeah and virtually pain free. A little sore in the last few km's and a bit prickly when going from walking up ridiculous hills back to running. Got some nasty blisters.

Thanks all

Hi Sparkies,
Sorry I've been MIA, but I've been out of town. I didn't get to read too far back, but it is good to be getting back into things.
Nera, I'm so sorry you are down. Since I've left a "career" that I hated I can imagine how it feels to back in one that you didn't plan on returning to. I'm sending you hugs and encouragement. Even tho you don't want to get out and do something, Ireally want to encourage to do so. It is hard but will make the difference! No matter what tho, just be gentle with yourself.
Everyone else, sending good vibes your way!

Blessings,
Kimiko

Aw Nera, that sounds so rough :o( I tell ya' sometimes it's easier dealing with crises than with day to day drudgery and ongoing issues. (((hugs))) (laps around the pity pool - lol! Come jump in the Chocolate hot tub at the NM instead!)

Good luck Carrie, I'm so excited for you!
everyone else, I'm sorry, I just don't have the energy tonight - I'm so drained. I'm not good with change (I know, weird huh?).
I've totally lurked and read. Will do cliff notes tomorrow, kay?

Neraus-sometimes itís hard for us to see the bright side of our own life because weíre so caught up in it. I hope you find a light soon. In the meantime, weíre all here for you!

Carrie-wow, great bargain on the wetsuit. Canít wait to hear all about your race.

Cstream-happy boat shopping.

Got that run in finally. 3.5 miles at a 10:17 ap which is super speedy for me. Not sure where the sudden spike in my speed is coming from but Iíll take it!

I can't believe 'Roo is already 6 months old!!!! Where does the time go?

So, DH and I spent about 9 hours in the car today. We drove to Annapolis,MD to look at 2 boats. So, tomorrow, we head out to see them and a bunch more that are really out of our price range but, we want to talk to people about our plan and what is the best boat for us to get. We were invited out for a short sail:) Sigh, the long drive home as I have to work late Sunday afternoon.

Happy racing RRs!

Beth - I am so so so excited it's Friday!!!

It's been one exciting day! I got my Tough Mudder outfit all ready to go, I bought a wetsuit for my triathlon (I got a super coupon code from a girlfriend and got a nice one for $170 instead of $400!), and I'm finalizing plans for this weekend.

I think it's time to paint my nails and relax!

I really can't say too much about things since I don't know who is reading but it has been tough lately. I never wanted to get back in to this field but I did because of my hubby haveing a hard time staying full time employed.

I don't know if it is stress or menopause or what but I just don't feel in control of myself. Super moody, super easy to either tick off or start crying. I try to exercise but lately that leaves me so tired I can't stand it. Plus no interest in running or walking or bike riding. I need something new.

But I haven't had a bike accident or had my child hurt or had any major illnesses of my own. Plus no homework or other school activities so compared to some here I really have it easy. I just need to remember that and jump the heck out of the pity pool. Oh what the heck one more lap won't hurt. LOL!!!!

Suprisingly enough, it's like I didn't even exercise yesterday. I'm sad.
Roo's 6 months old as of yesterday. She's our little spark-baby. Growing like a weed.
Heading out to get my race package for Sunday. Be back later to see how things are going.

Anneof6#-how awesome that Jensfitjourney is going to be alongside while you get those 6# gone. That lady is a true inspiration!

CStream-ooh, hope the heal isnít anything serious.

Kirsten-woo hoo on multiple job offers. Hope the perfect offer is coming your way.

Rich-fingers crossed that you have a pain free trail run tomorrow.

Neraus-sounds like youíve had a tough week. Good thing the weekend is almost here!

Heather-shake off the scale from today. Maybe some good water intake will shed those pounds for your ďofficialĒ weigh in tomorrow. I find that I can step on the scale and get one number, step off and right back on again and have a different number. So frustrating!

Penny-Woot! Good job on getting to the gym.

Jenny-ouch, lots of bruises. Glad you arenít too banged up to run though, hope it helped clear the mind. Enjoy a day off tomorrow.

No run yesterday. Went out for dinner again instead. Going to run once I get off work. It looks nice outside, birds are chirping. I think itís a bit chilly but should be great for running and dh will not sidetrack me today. Thatís my mission!

Cstream--Ha, thanks! But we let him go to school for the morning instead of making him pack. We've got nice weather for the drive up. We'll pick him up at school and head out in a few hours.
Kirsten, Wow, in *this* job market! That's amazing!
Rich: What a run! Did the rest and the new shoes help?
Nera: Sign me up for the do-over with you. What a week.
Heather: I empathize! It'll happen. You're doing everything right. I need to get that part down...
Anne and Carrie: I find lunges much easier on my knees when I'm careful not to let my knees push beyond my ankles, i.e. let my lower leg only go to vetical but not beyond. They really do help. Chalene Johnson makes them tolerable.
Penny: Hey, who needs to wash her hair when her arms are growing muscles? lol. How old is Roo?
Jenny: LOL, I love that you can make hilarious bruise jokes, especially when the bruises in question are so impressive. Hope you heal up quick!

OK, off to the regatta. See you all in a few days. Happy running!

Penny! emoticon emoticon emoticon on the strength training! I know you like it just about as much as I do. :) That's my goal for May - ST 2x a week if it kills me. (And seriously, it might.)

Carrie! GOOD LUCK on your Tough Mudder this weekend!!!!!! I can't wait to hear all about it!

Trish - kids like that are a sign of a good mom. You should be so proud. :)

Rich, that looks crazy! You be careful - and have fun!

Doris - I always think that would be a perfect "retirement" part time job. My dream job is actually working part time at REI. Actually, maybe not...I'd probably end up just spending my whole paycheck...I'd end up paying THEM to work there! LOL

Anneofmany - you know what's best for your body but remember that weight is just a number, overall fitness is what matters. I'm a lot heavier than I look (I could technically be an "athena" runner, actually) - sometimes there's just a lot of person packed into a small space. :)

NewBreeze - yay! on the C25k progress! Way to go!

The jaywalker never even turned around. I don't even think he knew that I crashed. But there were a bunch of people at the bus stop who ran over and asked if I was ok - that was nice (and embarrassing). Today I feel...pretty rough to be honest. I feel like I got beat up. I LOOK like I got beat up! My legs and right arm are just covered in bruises and I have a very large, very painful bruise on my right hip that wraps all the way around to my butt. (Andy says it looks like the Nike swoosh. I told him that if he'd better shelve any "just do it" jokes that were forming in his head or he would be "just doing it" on the couch for the night.) My back is pretty sore again as well.

I rode in early this morning and then went for a run down by the lakefront - I know, probably not the best idea but I needed it for mental health - and let me tell you, running by the lake on a crisp morning and watching the sun rise makes just about everything ok. emoticon I did 3 miles at a nice easy pace and I walked up the one big hill on the route. I'll probably take a rest day tomorrow and try to do my long run on Sunday.

Ok, time for a muffin. Good luck to all the racers this weekend!

And!

Happy Friday!!!
emoticon

Hey everyone!!

What a crazy great day today! Joshy had his Battle of the Book's District Battle today...his grade 3 team went against 21 grade 4 teams, and they came 4th....I'm so proud of him:) The kids have to read 10 novels, then answer 25 obscure questions about them.

Miss made me cry (those of you on Facebook have likely seen this), she came down and told me she wrote on her birthday invitations that she doesn't want presents, just donations to the Vancouver Children's hospital. I am sooooo blessed!!!

2wheeler, LOL about the hair!!! I have totally done that!!

Beth, nice with the hair:) ummm, other than that.....WHAT!!!!! LOL:)

Jenny, yikes!!!!!! Dang, I am so sorry that happened!! The bruises will go, but I pray the back isn't a casualty!!! Love ya!!!

Christy, LOL, yeah, my sis had that "load" issue, once she got surgery it was much better. She told me she got low back pains, but it was from over-compensating...LOVE the new running shoes thing...NICE HUBBY!!!

NewSweet....VERY cool about the run:) The thing about the C25k program is that it can be tweaked...they don't tell you that, but YOU know if you can give a bit more....and you did:) Congrats! Can't wait to hear about your 5k!!!

Sista, would love to hear the concert!!! Careful with your goals chicka....you look marvelous now, I don't want you to mistake what another's ideal bod is for what your's is...remember, you are a CRAZY fit chicka!!!

Doris, I would LOVE you to work at my WalMart...our staff suck on knowledge, and I KNOW you have a ton of it in the outdoor/health area....Get to the doc...whatever it is, better to deal with it now instead of later!

Nera, LOL, a do over for 5 years??? LOVE it!!!

Heather, very cool with your 5k...and your scale...you know the drill if you are doing everything right...re-check your water, and night snacks, along with your fitness minutes. You can do this sweetie!!!

Pen, nice job getting to the gym sweetie!!! So glad you are back in the "do" category:) HUGS AND LOVE!!!

Anyhow, gotta fly, love you all:)

Sitting here trying to catch up on spark & such.... not easy, let me tell ya. Roo's finally down for the count so that may help just a little.
Raining here. By the sound of it, really hard. It was just drizzling when I went to the gym. Yeh, you read that right *I* went to the gym. And get this: I strength trained!! emoticon Of course the odds of my being able to wash my own hair tomorrow are slim BUT, I think it was worth it.
So anyway, I read back and it seems like we're doing okay in here. 'cept Rich, who is wearing the wrong shoes and Trish who forgot that she should dead lift a smallish child when her back was already hurting... OH and Jenny who took one for the team and didn't take out the jaywalker. Personally, I'd have used the dumba$$ to cushion my fall but, then again, I have a hurt on for jaywalkers ever since my second car accident.
ANYway, I hear rustlings in the bassinet so I'm thinking I'd better get my butt off the computer and relax while I still can.
TTFN!

Anne - funny you mention lunges. I just read in runner's world that lunges were good for runners because they built up the glutes. I hate them and love them. Since my knees are a little wonky, I limit them, but I notice a positive difference when I do them regularly.

Just got home from my second grade spring musical. Lots of great compliments from the parents - it's such a nice event.

Rich, sorry to hear about not being able to get the Asics in AU. I absolutely love mine. If Saucony is giving you problems, you might try New Balance as an alternative to Asics. I have found that NB and Asics are the two most comfortable brands for me, and I wear men's because I have big feet. I can't really tell them apart, while other brands are either too rigid or have weird insole shapes.

Trish, hon! I am so sorry to hear about your back! You need some peace, girlfriend!

I went on a 5k today. I felt really good! I'm a little miffed at my scale right now though. It's telling me I am up 3 pounds from last week, and I have been eating right and exercising all week. Officially, I weigh in on Saturday, and I know bodies fluctuate a couple of pounds a day. I'm just frustrated! Grrrrr.

Hey all

I am resting today from running.

Beth yes I am in knew shoes - two pairs actually - one pair of Asics 3030 which fit perfectly and are great - also a pair of Saucony guides which i got online and bought a size too big and i fear that may be a part of the problem - My "old" runners Asics GT2160 have about 400k's on them so about halfway through their life. They are a wee bit too wide but other than that a great shoe.
I am switching to Saucony's as I can buy them online from US which I cant for ASICS as Asics AU have enforced some agreement. Its a big difference in proce too retail the 3030's are $230 AU here but in US like 150-160 so you can see why I would rather go the Saucony's which I can often find for around 100

Sorry rant over

Trail run tomorrow scary scary

Rich, glad you stretched.
Anne, thanks☺
Beth, I havenít really said what I am doing now for work. I am working at Wal-Mart, I know it isnít some peopleís favorite place but so far it has been good. I am in the sporting goods department, think fishing licenses, camping, etc. Lots to do all day. Glad you and Coop got out for a walk.
Nera, any exercise is good! Sometimes I just donít want to run so I walk too.
Abby, oh no! You spaced riding?!?! What?? Hope tomorrow is better for you.
Carolyn, good luck getting the 10 y.o. to pack for you. Have a fun trip☺
Trish, glad Josh gets a fun party at least! Hope your back gets better ASAP!
2Wheeler, yikes! Sounds like it should been Monday!
Jenny, OH NO! I hope your hip is OK. And your poor legs too☹
Christy, I recently had the same ďload lighteningĒ surgery you had! My back no longer hurts either!
Newsweetbreezes, WTG!!!! Woo Hoo!:)
Anneofmany, I know you will make your birthday goal. You rock girl!
Me, my foot hurts. Actually, it is the back of my heel. I donít know if its Achilles tendonitis or a heel spur. I am almost afraid to go to the Dr. I am done with injuries!!!!!!!

Trish-darnit ,Girl!!
everyone else...i just quickly skimmed. it's been kinda busy here today and soon we're off to gracie and Jeremy's combined concert at school....
I ran a fabulous 8.3 miles today in 1:23..felt great. Saw the chiro who worked on ALL of me from left ankle all the way up to my shoulders. she said my elbow pain was not tendon but the radius was not moving. it's already feeling better-i go back in 4 weeks to get all 'done' up again.
Started a weight loss challenge for myself: My birthday is May 17(43) and I want to lose 6 lb. I'm at my original goal weight right now but hey, another 6# woun't hurt especially if it's fat! So, I've asked Jensfitjourney to coach and keep me accountable. Who could go wrong with that woman coaching and supporting??!!! Today was good eating and lots of calories burned...
see ya tomorrow. I get to chaperone a kindergarten class for a trip to the butterfly gardens!!!

I shared this also under Couch to 5 K but I was so excited I decided to to enter it here to.
GREAT NEWS!!!! Today was a lot easer that Week 6 Day 3.
Today I ran 3.5 Kms in 30 mins. For me this this is Week 7 Day 1. I know, I was supposed to only do 25 mins but I stretched it to 30 mins because I really wanted to hit the 3.5 km mark. I walked if home after my run but took it slow to only cool down just my cool down was longer than normal. It was longer because I ran the road that the race will be may 6 and so I ran out to the 2.5 km mark and when I turned around I came back to the 3.5 kms mark and stopped running at that point half way up the 3 hill I ran today . SO any ways that means that I had 1.5 kms to get back to where the finish line will be on may 6 and then I still had another km to my home. I was worried that I might over do it because at that point your legs really do not feel pain for me just tightness so I made myself slow down to slower that stroll. The other thing I did was I kept stopping and stretching my legs and back. SO right now I Feel good so I think I will be ok.
This 5 K race is a dream of mine has become for me a passion and I want to run the whole way so very bad!!! Today I got a glimpse that I will succeed !! WOW DID I REALY JUST SAY THAT !!!!! WOW!!!!

Aspen-thatís weird on the slow swims. Must be stronger on one side than the other.

Anne-I loathe lunges but do them and get sore glutes every time I do. Squats donít bother me but Iím not terribly prone to knee problems either. Thatís interesting that your read that runners shouldnít do themÖ

Kirsten-sounds like things are falling in to place for you. Woot!

Beth-hi again.

Angie-how fun to be taking horseback riding lessons. I love riding but I am terrible at it. Iím trying to remember what my friends used to call meÖĒhorn babyĒ or something along those lines because Iíd always hang on to the saddle horn. Hope you slept better last night and got a good run in this morning.

Carolyn-hope that neck feels better before the weekend.

Trish-my muscles in my back used to be the same way. My PT had never seen anything like it. Mine was due to a ÖumÖ heavy load on the front side letís say. Had surgery last summer to lighten the load and now that part of my back feels like a million bucks. It headed south to my lower back though. But thatís on the mend now too. Hope you find relief soon!

2Wheeler-rough start! Hopefully the day only gets better from here.

No run yesterday. DH wanted to go over the mountain when I got off work and go to dinner. We couldnít go all that way just for dinner so he bought me a new pair of running shoes while we were there. Woot! Hopefully it quits raining so I can take them for a spin after work. Otherwise Iíll hit the dm at home tonight.

So my back was feeling better this morning and I decided to bike in to work. And then I crashed.

I had to stop fast for a pedestrian that was jaywalking across the intersection and I had my left foot out (I have toe cages) but I was in a little bit of a depression in the pavement and was off-balance. My right foot got stuck in the cage and I crashed sideways into the curb. It all happened really fast. I nailed my hip right on the edge of the curb - it hurts so bad I can't even touch it - I'm sure I'm going to have a monster bruise. I was wearing gloves so my hands are not scraped but I have a big bruise in the middle of my right palm, my wrist hurts and it hurts to make a fist. My legs are all scraped up and I tore open my right ankle pretty good - my sock was all full of blood when I got to work.

Oh yeah and my back really hurts again.

Sigh. I am just not having a good week, am I? I'm about ready for the weekend so I can reset.

TGIT - thank god it's Thursday!

emoticon

ETA - on a positive note, Anne that meatloaf looks delicious. I just added it to the menu for next week. :)

Good morning, all. What a crazy start to the day. Hopped in the shower and used creme rinse to wash my hair--took a full minute for me to realize what I had done. Still not sure I'm awake this morning--came into the office, couldn't find my cup of joe. The light bulb came on a few minutes later--it was still in the car. Maybe I should switch to high test???? I was awake enough though to enjoy the beautiful ride to work. I-99 follows a ridge and you can see green rolling hills for miles--PA is a beautiful state.

Rich--have a great time at your trail race. Let's compare notes next week. I expect to take 4+ hours to finish. Plan to take pictures along the way--the goal is just to finish. Three of us are going & we'll stick together. Have to break in new hiking shoes. Not much time to do that--maybe I'll wear them around the office next week if we don't have any VIPs coming in.

Ann--thanks for sharing the meatloaf recipes. Yum.

Got to run--work is calling. I'll finish up tonight. emoticon

Hey guys,

Gonna spot again tonight...Sorry!! Bought Josh a splint for his finger...he has his friends birthday on Saturday, at the "EnergyPlex". It has a gymnastic area, a climbing wall, and an "energy cube"...just a fun place to be. I couldn't imagine him just hanging out doing nothing, so this is the next best thing.

Jenny...e-mail me hon...would love to chat...if you don't have my addy, sparkmail me, and I will give it to you!!

Doc's take on me is that he needs me to be juiced up on meds before he can even tell me how bad it is. I know that sounds just wrong, but when he tested me, my back balked so badly, he couldn't get a good read - the muscles are going crazy because they are so over stimulated.

Gotta fly, love you all:)

Trish

Heather, I love how youíre inspiring your dd!
Kirsten, itís so funny, I miss the age when my kids did that, even though the tantrums were no fun. Nice to get a reminder that there are parts of early/middle childhood itís nice to move on from, even though you miss it later. And WTG on the fitness minutes!
Agh Jenny, back pain. Hope itís better quick.
AspenJules, yay for moms who know which supplement you need!
Aw, sprouts. We lots both our elderly kitties last year. Know how it is. Poor turtle!
Beth, I hope Beachbody reset is enjoyable. Sounds like a good way to go.
Trish, sorry to hear about your back And your kiddo.

My husbandís back is out (heís in good company, I see), and I have one of those neck muscle pulls that make you move like Frankenstein. Weíre going to Victoria for the weekend to watch our oldest son race in a regatta. I need to find someone to pack and load the car for us! Maybe we can coach our 10 year old through itÖ

Rich-not sure what to tell you on that one. It could be, but it could not be too. Just take it easy and be careful.

Trish-I'm so sorry to hear Josh broke his finger and is out for 4 weeks. Not fun at all. No good about your back either. Hope you both get to feel better soon.

Jenny-No good about your back still bad either. Far too funny about the goldilocks trial. The scripts are purchased through the American Bar Association so I'm sure its likely the same trial. You should watch if you can, pretty funny.

Christie- The feet are getting better. I didn't run tonight, but going to tomorrow morning. Way to go on running up the moutain!!

Jules-No good about the balance. Are bodies can be one sided so if you're right hand is your dominate hand not surprising you balance better. Keep at it you'll get good on both sides.

Anne- My knees don't like squats or lunges as much, but I find that if I don't get too deep and make sure my form is as perfect as I can get, I do pretty well. I haven't heard that runners are not supposed to do them. I bet Nancy could tell you!

Kirsten- It sounds liek you're job huntin like mad woman. Keep it up girl!

Well completely spaced I had horseback riding lessons tonight. Then got out to the barn and had to turn around and drive home because I didn't have my boots. By the time I got back the girls were nearly done with flat work and ready to jump. Thankfully, a younger girl had ridden Marshall before me so he was already kind of warmed up. So we tooled around the arena on our own for a bit while Dan kept correcting my position. Then we did some jumping. Slowly getting there. Thankful I have been losing some weight and inches as its so much easier in the saddle. Now we just have to keep it up. Run in the morning. I was stressed out and didn't sleep well last night so struggled getting up. Here's to tomorrow.

Hey all

50 min run - big stretch afterward felt good. I am not convinced its PF only pain in gait cycle is at actual footstrike. not at any other time. weird!

Not exactly sure what the go is. So hard to find time to get to a doc.

Good evening, folks. Not a lot happening here. Out for a run in the morning if the weather cooperates.

Penny - I hear you about plateauing with regard to speed. For me it is the lack of fast twitch muscle fibers.

Trish - Hope the back is feeling better. 75 pound kids are off my lift list.

Jenny - I love muscle relaxers...especially with three glasses of wine!!

Beth - How's the elbow? I get to miss the lab food, too!! I don't work until Saturday.

Anne - Meatloaf looks great!!!

Here you go Doris...
Garden Turkey Meatloaf

2 cups assorted vegetables, chopped-such as mushrooms, zucchini, red bell peppers, spinach, onions (we used carrots, broccoli, celery, green and red peppers, onions...whatever is in the fridge)
12 oz 99 % lean ground turkey
1/2 Cup whole wheat breadcrumbs (we used what we had in the cupboard)
1/4 Cup fat free evaporated milk
1/4tsp ground black pepper
2 Tbsp ketchup
1Tbsp fresh chives, rinsed, dried and chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
1 Tbsp fresh parsley, rinsed, dried and chopped (or 1 tsp dried)

For glaze
1 Tbsp ketchup
1 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard

Preheat oven...350 F
Steam or lightly saute the veggies (we don't do this..don't feel it's necessary)
Combine veggies and rest of the meatloaf ing. in a large bowl and mix. Spray loaf pan with cooking spray and spread meatloaf mixture evenly in the pan.

Combine ingredients for glaze and brush glaze on top of meatloaf.

Bake in oven for 45-50 minutes (to a minimum internal temp of 165 F)
Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting into eight even slices.

You will all be glad to know I have started my day with calf stretches and plantar fasciia stretches.

2Wheeler I am doing a 13.2 mile trail race on Saturday - It is going to be great fun and very slow - very up and down - I have been told that someone who runs a 1:35 half took 2:45 to get around the course.

I am running it as a training run and as I am due for a 2 hour 20 run it will be just about perfect lol.

I need to find time to get to the Dr and its not easy..

Rich, just get the Dr:) My PF pain was in the meaty part of my heel, close to the inside of my foot in the right foot but more towards the back of my heel in the left. STRETCH!! yes, I yelled at you:)
Trish, maybe Joshy could go to the NM with you and have some fun splashing in the hot tub. After all, his poor little finger is broken.
What else, seems like RRs have races in the mud, the woods and on the pavement. WTG!
AnneofBobby, veggie turkey? Hmmm, care to share recipes?

I've been busy job-hunting today. It's surprisingly busy - and productive! I have a one-day job in Mississauga next week, an interview tomorrow and a GREAT opportunity to be a first-aid instructor at the university athletic centre! Woohoo! Hubby just got a call for an interview on Friday... everything's going well today! Peterborough community gardens network meeting tonight and I've been invited to apply for a community garden manager position... busy day!

Check back with y'all later.

Hi all! Did hill repeats today. Kind of a love/hate thing for me. Feels great at the top but getting there...not so much :)
Bobby is out on his bike and when he gets home we are taking the dogs for a walk. Started work early today so was done early...1 ish. But it feels later cause of the middle of the night start (basically).
Rich-I say you need to check with a doc to make sure it is PF. Mine was in my heel but not directly in the middle. Have had it in both. Angie is right...stretching is something I do faithfully!
Jules-hope you got some rest. I have a question on the lunges/squats. For everyone actually.

Do you all do lunges and squats in your other workouts/cross trainings? Every time I do something (as in a dvd workout) that involves either of these I end up with knee issues. I do try to keep the form perfect but I have had issues all my life with my knees. I had two casts on my legs/knees when I was younger because of Osgood Slaughter (I am not sure if that is the correct spelling or even the correct words). I guess that is how they treated it way back when I was a pre teen. My knees are better since I lost weight (of course) and started running but if I do squats...yowza...the right one especially is ouchy. I did read some where that a runner shouldn't do squats and lunges. Not sure if that is true or not but thought I would put it out there and see what you all had to say. Ideas? Comments?

Jenny-bummer on the back still hurting. Be careful at work with those pain killers...never know what you might agree to...staying late, doing extra... Yikes!
Trish-sorry about your back also. Seems like we get one step ahead and two steps back a lot, huh? Poor Joshy! You both stay home and hug each other for a while. That will help!
Christy-running up a mountain? Way to go girl!
Penny-Doris may have a point. Are you eating enough for all the nursing you are doing...along with all the running? Just a thought.
Angie-hi ya girl!
All I can remember and I am darn hungry. Think I will go eat some of the leftover veggie turkey meatloaf Bobby made last night. It is SO YUMMY! Seriously one of our favorites! YUM YUM!
Later.

emoticon I read back and tried to comment but am just TOO sleepy. Hubby kept me up late last night, and then we both got up for the gym this morning - I did 30 min on the elliptical. Got my 30's done too - 30 calf rockers, which I liked; 30 lateral lunges, which I'm not sure my knee liked, and 3 1-min wall sits... which I HATE but respect. No walking with my friend today, or at all till I get new shoes. My shins hurt all day yesterday. I iced them several times. Thanks for all the online shoe recs - will try Amazon today and if they don't have them I'll have Fleet Feet order them.

On a funny note - yesterday I was doing slow swims on the ex. ball, where you lie on the ball, and simultaneously lift one hand and the opposite foot, then lower them down. Well, oddly, I can manage just fine lifting my right hand and left foot, but fall all over the place when I try to lift my left hand and right foot. How weird is that?

Ok, off to take that nap.

Kirsten-I will have to say, Oregon is beautiful. We live in the mountains which makes it even more beautiful in the summer. Winters, not so much fun anymore. Glad things are better with you and your dd.

ABoyer ĖAngie is it? Hope the feet were nice to you on your run today.

Penny-that was a healthy vent. Have you tried upping your speed even for 30 seconds during a run?

Trish-Iím so sorry to hear about both Josh and you. I hope both of you heal quickly and find great alternatives to sports and exercise while you heal.

Carrie-rest is essential, glad you are sleeping in, even if it is only until 6 am.

Janice-Have fun on that trail challenge. Iím such a klutz so I admire anyone who can do those runs.

Jenny-hope your back gets itself sorted out soon too.

Got my run in up the mountain yesterday. One mile and itís all up hill. Tough! But that also means that itís one mile all down hill which I still made tough because I kept my pace faster than ever. Iím on a mission to become speedy this year. Heading out for something flatter after work.
