Nope, you can't feel alone on this one! Of course, I was only about half a mile INTO a run when I fell on the dirt road. I looked like a little kid with gravel imbedded in my palms and knees. Also, I fell on the timer I then wore around my neck, and got a little, teeny crack in one of my upper ribs!
emoticon
I didn't tell my family because I had a race the following Saturday and I knew they'd try to talk me out of running. It was a painful race, let me tell you!

The worst part was that when I fell I let go of my dog's lead and she wandered on down the road sniffing & turning around to look at me like : "Um, HELLO! I don't call this RUNNING!"

Linda, I should wear my glasses while out running but they slide down my face. If I squint, I can sorta see what's coming up. Many times I think a reflector or stump is another runner and get all excited that I am not alone. But, alas.....

I envy those who can run without their glasses. I can't see without them and would fall a lot more LOL!

I haven't fallen yet, but I've had some near misses. One path I use by my neighborhood has tree roots buckling the pavement, so I try to avoid that one in the evening since it gets very hard to see the bumps.

I fell a week ago on ice. Just a thin coated of melted snow that refroze overnight on the cleared sidewalk. I was close to 500 miles on my running shoes and a new pair, with new treads, in now on order.

I've read to look 30-40 feet (or was it yards?) ahead but it's natural for me to look much closer ahead, which probably helps with sidewalk cracks.

I just started "Rehabbing an injury" and I fell the last weekend of July and am still in PT. After being checked out at the urgent care clinic and getting my hip xrayed, I figured that I would get over it in a couple of weeks. But after the bruise faded, and the slight concussion (yes, I hit head) went away, the pain remained. 6 weeks later an MRI revealed a torn IT band and issued with a glute muscle. I have become very good friends with my foam roller, and have now added the "Stick" at my PT's suggestion. Who knew that you could hurt yourself so badly running? I could have used a helmet! I am reduced to walking and following my PT's exercise prescription. Be careful out there and watch for those cracks!

I only wear my glasses at night, but I can't imagine running without my contacts in! I'd be falling all over the place! lol
I've been doing my best to avoid that spot where I fell (twice). Some other obstacles have taken it's place, though, including tree roots and slippery leaves. I've been very careful, but I realized that my ankles have been bothering me. The right one is just sore after running. The left one has been swollen ever since my second fall. It turns out that I did a little more damage than I originally thought. I twisted my ankle and thought I'd just walked it off. It's not causing too much pain, but when I ran last night it became really sore so I was walking a lot. My husband went and bought me ankle supports today, so hopefully they help.

Great image DELERIOUS64! emoticon

This is very timely for me. On my last jog, I tripped on a sidewalk crack and almost went tumbling down. I managed to keep myself up right but it was touch and go for a second. Glad to hear that when I do fall, I will be in good company.

I'm actually starting to get good at it. I also zone out during runs. The last time I fell was also from tripping on a sidewalk crack, I managed to make it to the grass and slid belly first accross the damp grass. Made for easier landing. Now when I head out the door I say a little prayer, Lord keep me safe and upright...

I don't wear my glasses when I run either and I really like running at night (cooler and more peaceful I think). Last spring I was running my usual route and tripped on a watering hose that was strewn across the sidewalk and hidden in shadow..HAHAHA. Scraped my hand and knee but got back up, took a walk break and got back to it. It is nice to know that I am not the only one that has taken a tumble during a run. :) Great thread!

I've fallen on ice two times - the first time I just scraped my hands but the second I cracked my head and broke my tailbone. Owie!

But I frequently run into low-hanging tree branches that I don't realize are face-level until it's too late! So embarrassing!

Glad to see I'm not alone. I fell while running on a trail. Scraped my knee and still have a scar but no lasting damage.

My worst fall wasn't even on a run! I was at the school bus stop with my granddaughter last year and squatted down to fix her shoe laces that were in a knot. When I went to get up I lost my balance and fell over sideways. Didn't seem too bad at the moment but an hour later my whole right side of my hip and butt were really swollen. Stayed swollen for almost 2 weeks and had a big ugly bruise from mid thigh to my tailbone and a lot of pain. Talk about a real klutz!

oh! not yet, but since my back injury and restarting my "running/walking" on the dirt next to the cement path instead of actually on the path, i'm SURE my day is coming! thanks for sharing this... made me feel that my biggest fear of falling is ok!!

I tripped once on an invisible crack - another time my feet got tangled in a plastic packing tie - complete loop around both feet! I was in another zone, didn't see it till i fell, rolled, and found it around both ankles. must have looked pretty silly.

Yes - you are NOT alone! I have fallen several times -
1 - bought new shoes that were a half size too big on the advice of the running shoe guy. Tripped over my own feet (and went back to my regular size)
2 - two small children darted onto the sidewalk in front of me. Missed the kids, but over-corrected to miss a tree and fell on the sidewalk
3 - running through the park I stepped on a green pole that the workers left on the grass. The pole rolled and pitched me into the road, giving me a contusion that took months to heal.

I have GOT to say this...WE are twins!!! :) Seriously. I mean it as in 2nd to last time (happened few times) I fell on a crack, on the near end of a 5 mile run, and scraped up my right knee and left palm. I got up shook it off, & kept running. Then not to long after (not to long ago) I slipped and did opposite...EXACTLY like you. Haha LOVE it! You are def not alone. I cna imagine what people who see us think...oh geez. We are some tough ones! ;)

I'm such a klutz. I trip when I'm walking, so it doesn't really surprise that I trip when I'm running. On Saturday, I was "in the zone", nearing the end of my 5-mile run, when I tripped on a sidewalk crack and fell to my hands and knees. I scraped up my left knee and my palms, but got up and kept going. Tonight, same thing happened, same crack, scraped right knee. Again, got up, walked it off, and kept going. Please tell me someone else has fallen during a run! haha
