I understand your frustration - but - short of actually meeting with a personal trainer, the best we can offer is resources and personal opinions.

It really sounds like you're on target for increasing your running/cardio strength and speed - and I would agree, without knowing your specific running goal, it's difficult to suggest plans that have worked for others.

I spent a lot of time researching and learning what I was/am capable of with my own running, and as my abilities increase, my goals change. Try a few different things, and if you're still frustrated, I'd say you haven't really found the 'IT' thing that sparks your next interest with your running - keep looking, you'll find it.

I personally decided upon a race distance to focus on this year, set my sights on specific events, and worked the recommended training plans (each even had suggested training plans depending upon the goal and experience of the runner) - and it's really kept me on track with training. The biggest difficulty I ran into was trying to train for both a triathlon and a half marathon at the same time - believe me, those goals don't always mesh well!

Good luck!

i use the higdon site a lot and i know many, many runners that have used his site to achieve their goals especially when they are newer to running. runners world has a nice site also. the one below is one that my wife likes too. remember post in the rookie runners main thread, there are many knowledgeable people there that might be able to help with questions

Rookie Running 5k program is a spark people program/team that starts one from 0 running to a 5k, I have done a 5k. My question is more or less whether what I'm doing is appropriate and yes I strength train and cross train-I walk, bike ride, and do upper and lower strength exercises.

Sorry for the frustrated tone, but it does get frustrating when people reply in a way that makes it obvious they didn't read your post..not to be rude, seriously.

And thanks BobbyD for the website!

Thanks for the link to Hal Higdon's site. He has some great articles!

I've been in a similar situation. I got off track in C25k. I almost finished it, and then my back went out. I finished my first 5k anyway, but I walked more than I'd intended. I've felt a little lost since then and was looking for some training guides. Looking at Higdon's site, I think I'm at week four of his 8 week beginner guide.

I'm not sure what the rookie runner program is, but what's your primary goal? Is it, perhaps, to run 5K straight, without walking breaks? If so, then you should pick a program that will get you there. Yes, there are lots out there: and a lot of them are pretty similar. The main thing is to just pick one and work the program. I suggest either the SparkPeople Virtual 5K program or the C25K program. Take it one step at a time, and in a few months you'll be running 5K a couple times a week. Then you can either make that your routine, or set new running goals.

go to halhigdon.com he has a lot of great information about training, nutrition etc...
might i also add that your training should have strength training and multiple cross training activities.
your next logical step would work your self up to a 10k race.

Have you signed up for an actual 5K race?

I completed the rookie runner 5k program and once I was done I didn't know what to do with myself, as there are hundreds+ plans to follow and ways to go about it. Right now what I am doing and have worked my way up to is Mon/Fri Jog 5 min/Walk 1 min for about 54 min which is 5 miles for me and on Wed I run 1 mile/Walk 1 min for 3 miles. Then usually 1 or sometimes 2 a week I run 1 mile for speed. But I really don't know what I'm doing or where I'll end up, so I'm pretty much doing it blind and would prefer a plan or a goal-well my goal is weight loss. Thanks for any advice.
